What's new

Sri Lanka A beat Pakistan A by 33 runs in 1st unofficial Test

Like Gazza pointed out, this wasnt even Pakistan's A squad evident by the fact that the likes of umar akmal and shehzad and many other bench players were kept out. It was more of a B team and they lost a closely fought match albeit one they should have won. We all need to probably relax including me as there is a whole series ahead before certain elements start blowing the trumpet of Pakistan cricket being near collapse or what not.

I didn't see Herath and Matthews playing for the Lankans.

A teams play to see some individual and new talent unearthed and give them confidence at international level. They are not played for wins or losses in the first place. Who keeps records of how many games a team played, won or lost. There is no such record. It's always about individual performance and records like number of FC runs and wickets etc. On this note Bilawal Bhatti is pretty pedestrian. Some other players need to be looked at

What a complement!!!!! I am really grateful. But which World cup you are talking about. ICC world cup qualifier or ICC trophy from where Kenya, UAE and Bangladesh got opportunity to play in World Cup main event.

If you are talking about World Cup 2019 than by beating Kenya or Nepal we will not qualify for the main event. We have to beat team like Afghanistan, Scotland, Netherlands, Ireland and Zimbabwe who are much superior team than seasoned team like Nepal or Kenya.

Also, we Pakistani fans may be very disappointed with our recent performances but its very highly unlikely we will be as bad as Nepal or Kenya who do not have any proper cricketing structure. Even though some of the steps are taking by eye-wash but some actions are appreciable such as discipline, invest in school cricket, increase of pay in domestic matches, reduce the number of teams etc. But it can never possible to have 100% corruption free institute in sub-continent.

Also, there are 3 types of criticism 1. constructive, 2. disappointment 3. make joke of poor performances. And your leveling Pakistan team as Kenya or Nepal is follow in 3ed category which is disappointing.

Dil pe maat le yaar.

OK, my mistake, I apologise - please take out Kenya, Nepal & put Zimbabwe, Afghanistan instead. Now, your chest must be thumping in pride ..................

Decline of pak test team is in sight (very soon) when some seniors retire soon...they will be in proposed tier 2 soon with bd,wi,zim and associates...😜

You and your countrymen are truly our best well wishers.

Very poor performance from the batsmen.

Is this really the best second string batsmen we have? If so, this is an extremely worrying situation.

Dont agree. Pakistan's test team will still be pretty decent, specially in the UAE. Asad and Azhar are darn good batsmen and will atleast be prolific in the UAE, where Pakistan usually play the majority of their Tests anyway. Fawad Alam is waiting on the bench, and in Tests he will be quite a decent option, specially (once again) in the UAE. Haris Sohail also plays proper cricketing strokes according to merit and is a really good Test option.

If you're talking about abroad, all teams get smashed abroad. Australia and England get white-washed in the UAE, South Africa and New Zealand barely win one test in a two-test match series. Vice-versa for Asian teams in these places. Pakistan just has to do well at the UAE to still have a strong-hold on their position in Test rankings.

YK won't be replaced ofcourse, but we won't descend to obscurity like we have in LOI cricket since we have a few grafters still in the dock. Test cricket hasn't changed much and neither it will in the near future.

LOI cricket is a completely different scenario where I don't see Pakistan excelling until a batting culture is developed. The golden era of Pakistan also had an inconsistent batting line-up, which lost more matches than it won. People don't remember that since other teams were more or less at the same level or worse in terms of strike-rate. We never had a good batting line-up and were always decent thanks to our exceptional bowling. Bowling doesn't win you matches in LOI cricket anymore. And thats where Pakistan is stuck in a rut where they have had to develop a mindset they never thought would be paramount in the cricketing world.

Saj can you ask Basit bhai why he is not selecting Saud Shakeel in the team?

It's quite a mind boggling decision from Basit Ali, who comes across as someone with quite a big Karachi bias and is always championing the cause of Khurram Manzoor, Khalif Latif etc. I wonder why he doesn't fancy Saud Shakeel who happens to be from his own region and even Inzi has rated highly.

this is just speculation on my part:

There may be an unofficial regional quota system in place for selection of players in the A team which team management have to respect. There are currently 4 players in the A team from Sindh province namely Sharjeel Khan, Jaahid Ali, Mohammad Hasan and Mir Hamza which is already too many. Thats why selecting a 5th player from Sindh is not an option. For Saud Shakeel to play one of the above 4 players has to sit out.
