Sri Lanka are knocked out of the Asia Cup after a 91-run loss against Afghanistan

It will most likely be an India Vs Pakistan Final, so basically a best of 3 series between India - Pakistan. ;)

I think, 500 - 550 average (match total) wickets are still best for ODI, which gives multiple chances to teams coming back in a game from behind. On such wickets, teams batting first scoring 225-250 are not out of game, but chasing side is favorite, while a target between 250-275 should put defending side in better position, but it can be chased with one great innings or good partnership. Anything out side that range is skewed to wards the side in advantage. In an even contest, 95%+ games on such wickets should produce game total between 450 to 575.

Here is UAE, what is happening is match total might be between 450 to 575 (if any of PAK, IND bats first against HK, game total will be above 450 for sure :) ), but it's like batting first team 300 and chasing side 200 ....

What little I have seen today, this Abu Dhabi wicket had some grass, therefore it shouldn't have died like this, particularly for a 3:30PM start, which pushes the last 25-30 overs under whatever dew is there. But, what I understand is that wickets there are built on very loose base and little clay content. Once the ball gets little softer, it dies down and because of less clay, under hit top surface becomes like thin puff of dust - it's the worst type of wicket for any cricket, particularly ODI.

There is only one cricket venue on earth with very similar climate to UAE - Perth, Western Australia, may be a little more wet but heat, humidity, air flow and day-light duration almost similar, both are on sea shore as well. But, old WACA was the fastest & bounciest wickets in the game, because of two reasons - those wickets were built on base like concrete slabs, rock solid, compact and heavily rolled years after years. And, WACA wicket had the highest clay % among Test wickets - at times 91% (Jo'burg 89%), with very fine grains and lots, lots of sprinkling. These kept that wicket concrete like hard, extra bouncy and fast - a little bit grassy as well, if they want to ensure a 3 Day Test. Often, if it's too hot, that wicket used to crack on Day 4 & 5, and I have seen 3 CM wide crack, 6 inches out side off, 6 metres long, straight along the bowling line. But, that wicket still allowed stroke makers to score & score quickly, add to that sand based fast & large out-field, it's a dream wicket for stroke makers, who can hit through the line on the rise - even on Day 5.

I can almost certainly tell that, if AFGs bat first on Thursday, they'll win the game.

Why did Sri Lanka make Matthews captain when is a proven failure as skipper ? Also why is Tharanga playing ahead of Dickwella? Lankans have the talent but they aren't performing. Matthews should never captain Sri Lanka again.

They have talent but no fitness... there fitness level is the worst.

No sympthy for Lankans. They were supporting India nidahas final. Am happy for Afghanistan. Glad Lankan fans who were bitter against BD, k’os early from Asia Cup.

I used to like old SL sides in 90s and 00s! They were my fav other asia side after BD.

Can you blame the fans? Bangladesh's behaviour was just plain rude against SL in the Nidahas trophy. I have not seen any international cricket team behave so childishly on the field.

How come it doesn't say the exact scores in the title like it usually does @Mods.

Anyway, shameful from Sri Lanka, hard to feel sorry for them as they played so poorly and deserve to lose.

Its going to be a tough game between Bangladesh and Afghanistan on Thursday. It will be entertaining, thats for sure.

How so? From what I read there was no evidence any of the BD setup smashed the dressing room door...meaning it had to be a Lankan. Makes sense since they'd have been upset after losing.

And that god awful snake thing was actually started by a Lankan player during the January tri series I think. At least thats what I heard.

As far as the on field protest, it was totally the right move by Shakib. That ball should have been called as a wide.

Get over it man. It was while ago and SRL is a pretty boring team. useless topic if you ask me.

Very poor from SL. Their players look unfit and their batting is really poor. They haven't won much over the last couple of years and they are really struggling. Getting Malinga back isn't the solution for their woes.

No I don't think so. Dhoni still shines when the matches under 280 or under. It's only 300+ matches where he struggles to keep up nowadays.

This tournament looks like its going to be a 260-270 tournament. I'm betting on Dhoni to come good here.

Let's see hopefully he'll win us a few games. But this tournament really is not ideal preparation for the world cup where we would get extreme flat decks and 350 would be par.
Tournament should have been held in India.

Congrats to Afghanistan they've been playing some good cricket lately. Well deserved win. Tbh not sure if our lot would have been able to beat Hong Kong even had they been in the same group. We are the real minnows in this comp. Absolutely dreadful all round.

Yes I completely agree. This tournament won't tell us much about our preparation for the WC.

That will only be tested during India's tour down-under, especially in NZ. Scores are 300+ in almost every match in NZ nowadays. If India can win in those conditions, then we can be confident about the WC.

Dhoni can't be the finisher in 300+ games anymore. He has to play at 4 after the Asia Cup. Otherwise we will struggle.
