Brilliant win from Sri Lanka, just what they needed after their recent struggles.

Well done to Sri Lanka.

And our top order batsmen should hang their heads in shame - Warner, Khawaja and Smith in particular

Great game of Test cricket. There's nothing like it.

And then there were none.

Brilliant fight back from Sri Lanka. Aussies were a touch complacent with the bat in the first innings.

Great fight from Nevill, SOK and Smith but not enough.

I love a good FAF rearguard, but Australia probably shouldn't have stopped scoring quite so soon.

If O'Keefe and Nevill had scored 2.5 per over the second new ball would have come at 200-8, which is squeaky bum time when the target is 268.

Don't know why I'm so happy about SL's win!

Congratulations!

One of best Test and fightback ever!

We'll miss Herath more than Sanga or Mahela. Such an underrated cricketer with both the ball and bat. Not too good on the field tho runs like Godzilla :))

Wonderful game. Basically, SRL won by innings - that's the beauty of 2 innings game.

It'll be almost impossible for SRL to replace Herath. I think, he is going to get at least another 15 wickets in this series. If Lanka bats 1st at Gale, series might be over before 3rd Test. Need to play a proper No. 6 by dropping one of those bits & pieces off-spin all rounder.

Smith is your only world class bat. Can't score in all innings. Did well in one.

And threw away his wicket in the first innings.

You can't score in every innings but if you charge down the wicket, miss it completely and get stumped you have to accept responsibility for it.

funny to think that it took the arguably weakest sl side in 15 years to beat the aussies.embarrassing loss for the aussies really, this sl side is weaker than bangladesh is right now.

ughh it's not so simple.

ughh it's not so simple.

Very true.

I think, however, that a successful rearguard needs to start much earlier. The great FAF blockfests of recent years started with at least five wickets in hand.

It's asking an awful lot of numbers 7, 10 and 11 to ask them to survive 60 overs, when numbers 1-6 lasted only 50 overs.

This win will give the confidence back to Sri Lankans. Glad that there are new heroes born for them!

Congrats to the SL fans here. Lanka just did a Herath job on the Australians.

Sri Lanka beat Australia in 1st Test by 106 runs

What a brilliant Test match it was and what an innings it was by Kusal Mendis, clearly the best Test innings of the year so far in my opinion. Congratulations to Sri Lanka on a very deserved victory! The bowlers backed up Mendis´ innings brilliantly. They haven´t had the best couple of years in Test cricket, but the funny thing is that amongst the greatest comeback wins even in the last year was by Sri Lanka, which was against India thanks to Rangana Herath, the usual suspect, and a dream century from Dinesh Chandimal.

My point has been reasserted again within a matter of a couple of weeks: the beauty of Test cricket lies, and only lies, in low-scoring thrillers, the kind of matches where bowlers dominate more than the batsmen. A 500-plus total is the biggest suffering and the punishment that a viewer has to put up with in sports. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the highlights of this match after each day´s play, and today found myself looking up online for a stream of a Test match after uncountable number of years (eight I think). Pity that it wasn´t telecast live over here.

I was referring to the WK Bhanuka. Haven't seen any one, but he controlled the batting with tail well in recent UK tour. I am sure, he is genuine 21,therefore has couple of years to develop. There was another guy who looked so good on eye but yet to hit something big - Vintage (?). Where is he?

Actually, I don't think batting'll be any issue, might not be spin attack either. It's the fast/pace bowling that's the real concern. At present, SRL actually is behind BD, AFG & may be even ZIM in terms of pace bowling resources.

You are talking about Mindo Bhanuka. Never seen him play, so hard to judge talent. Vithanage is a real talent, very consistent, he just got banned for a year for constant poor disciplinary behaviours, he was involved in a sex scandal a while back too :gayle. SL players don't grow or develop as they should so hard to predict where they will be down the road. Spin bowling will always be good due to influence of Murali. Fast bowling is a tough one, Chameera is too skinny, he can't constantly play 3 Tests and 5 Odis. Prasad is getting old and fragile. Apart from Pradeep, other bowlers are in consistent. Fast bowling will be a concern as always.

Lol I thought I read it opposite... The title but checked scorecard yup that mendis guy rocked covers SL

The Last Of The Stars remember you saying Sri Lanka should drop Mendis because he has a low first class average lol. Thats what you always do you look at stats. Look how hes playing right now. It was obvious from the start he had a lot of talent. You should stop doing the same with Pakistani players as well like Babar in Test cricket.

Brother, just wait till he plays 15 Tests at least, then we shall check his average. I can be wrong as well, but domestic statistics are the best indicator.
