Light isnt getting better today folks. Match should have started at 8 AM if not 7 AM. Its usually pitch black in Islamabad by 5 PM.

ermm is that bad light ...we have lights on so how can the go off 2o overs still left...

Some clowns in PCB thought it was a good idea to stage a test match in Rawalpindi

Either day and night test match here or test match in Multan

Lights have been on since the first over. The light is not good enough for visibility of the red ball to be maintained so play has been called off

SL is well ahead considering we have at least 6 walking wickets out of 11. 4 bowlers, Azhar and out of form Haris.
If SL bowl well we will not even score 200 in the first innings

People complaininf about points..

I think its safe to say we are not a top 4 test team, at this point it doesnt even matter.

The points are useless for bottom feeder teams like us.

Its actually hilarious that people are actually complaining...

How good was Shaheen today ?

If he continues this consistency with this pace he will be one of the top bowlers of world cricket

His average pace was 140 plus . Swung the bowl around.

Him and Naseem are already leagues above the others.

Now we only need to replace Shinwari and Abbas with Sameen and another decent bowler (maybe Arshad Iqbal) and we will be on top of the world :sk

Need to switch on lights for the evening. 5pm sunset Test matches!

It'll be a draw.
It's going to rain tomorrow, the day after, and the day after that pretty much all day

seems like you and misbah have same mentality ..
losers mindset .. from the beginning

Match will be starting half an hour early from tomorrow on probably. If rain doesnt take away more than a day, we might see a result.

Play needs to start an earlier on each day if light is going to be bad like this. Bowling in 1st session was really poor, but if SL get 300+ here will be a good total.

Pak will have to get the remaining 5 wickets in next 50 runs ideally and 75 max.

Then why go out and play? What's the point of putting in the effort if it doesn't amount to anything?

im just glad we are finally playing cricket in pakistan..i expect a long road ahead for our team but at least we have some new players and are trying our best. The fact we managed to punch above our weight during the last decade is testament to the players and coaches. Remember they predicted that pakistan cricket would be voer and done with by now.

At least wickets fell on the first day and by pacers, unlike the UAE where we have to wait ages for wickets to fall.

Hats off to Wahab, junaid khan,Rahat ali, they bowl on that UAE lifeless pitches.

Agree, not a position on their selection but certainly agree - thankless task bowling out there, a lot of toil.

Good for these guys to be bowling with their tails up against SL in Pak :)

The two Shahs I think represent our regular new ball attack - need to hunt for that first change...Abbas, possibly bothered by his shoulder still, is probably best left only for England tours?

Lmao, im just being logical here. The team selected and the players available clearly dont shout out we are going to win.

Fact is we shouldve selected a young team and built on those players.

Asad and azhar have never won us a series and why would it start now.

The only thing that is being gained from this series is experiance for the younger players. Nothing else

Test cricket finally returned to Pakistan on Wednesday, 11 December, and the crowds that gradually poured into the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium were treated to a fine day of action, at the end of which Sri Lanka were 202/5.

Only 68.1 overs were possible on the day, though, with bad light forcing early stumps. There were question marks over light for most of the day – the floodlights were turned on even with the sun beating down in the second session.

Both teams will be fairly happy with how the day went. Sri Lanka opted to bat and began well, with Dimuth Karunaratne, their captain, and Oshada Fernando putting their foot down in a solid display of batting.

They ensured Pakistan had no joy in the first session, taking Sri Lanka into lunch at 89 for no loss, with Karunaratne having moved things along to bring up his half-century late in the first session. However, upon resumption, it was evident that Pakistan's pacers had found their collective mojo.

Within five overs of the restart, Shaheen Shah Afridi took the first Test wicket on Pakistan soil in over a decade when he had Karunaratne trapped in front with a full ball, after the batsman missed his flick. He reviewed, but that was always hitting the stumps, and Pakistan had their breakthrough.

The wickets came more frequently thereafter. Fernando, having scored a commensurate 81-ball 40, lasted just a little more than five overs after that, with young Naseem Shah inducing an edge that was taken low by Haris Sohail at first slip.

Kusal Mendis, who had grafted for 47 balls for 10 runs, became the third batsman to fall in another six overs, Usman Shinwari the wicket-taker this time, forcing the batsman to poke at a length ball. When Mohammad Abbas then sent back Dinesh Chandimal, knocking back his off stump after pitching one at a length on middle, Sri Lanka were reduced to 127/4.

Sri Lanka needed to regroup, and they did. Angelo Mathews (31 off 77) and Dhananjya de Silva (38* off 77) decided Pakistan would have to work harder for the wickets, and they put on 62 for the fifth wicket, taking Sri Lanka into the tea break without further harm to their wickets column.

They batted into the final session, and seemed good to carry on and put on a big partnership when Naseem finally broke Mathews' patience. He tempted him with one around off, and Mathews, having restricted himself from hard-handed shots all day, went after it, only to be caught second slip.

Niroshan Dickwella then came in, and in typical fashion found the fence a couple of times during the 13 balls he faced. It helped take Sri Lanka past the 200 mark, but the umpires then decided the light levels were insufficient, and the players withdrew to the dressing room.

Play will begin 30 minutes early on the second morning.

30 mins early as in 5:30 (GMT) or 5:15 because today the match started at 5:45

I think, SRL is the happier side after Day 1. The damage was done in session one and PAK is trying to recover from that start. 5 for ~100 is very good bowling, but before that SRL had like 100/0 at a decent rate.

New ball is due in 12 overs but I am not sure if it’ll be a good idea to take it immediately. If one of this batting pair remains till then, PAK might concede some soft runs at brisk pace. This is the most effective inexperienced pace attack I have seen from SRL, but if batsmen can post 300+, after Lunch, it won’t be easy for PAK.

The pitch is flat and Sri Lanka were looking set to score 400+. But pakistan came back well+ stupid shot from Mathews. I think it's about 50/50 right now. Pakistan must restrict Sri Lanka to under 300, and then pakistan must score 450+. However there's rain and bad light, so probably just going to be a draw.

Pakistan recovered well after the 1st session. I would say the day has been shared by both teams.

Fans are criticising everything that is being done by Misbah and Waqar. Give it a rest please. I believe 4 fast bowlers strategy was a good one. Spinner on this track would have released 50 runs here.

Imran Khan used to play 4 front fast bowlers on green tops. Only thing i think Misbah should have considered was playing an bowling all rounder, that would have been a better strategy, someone like Fahim, Talat, Amad Butt.

Whether it was a good strategy to go without a spinner or not - we will know once Sri Lanka's spinner starts bowling.

Rain can play spoilsport though and we may never know.

Really happy that real cricket is back in Pakistan. The crowd was great atmosphere was great. The pitch was very good especially as compared to UAE pitces but what was wrong with the ground why it was so brown or yellow didn't looked good at all.

It's winter in Pakistan which is why the grass is dead
