When was the last time Vettori played against us?

Peterson is not a big turner of the ball and its been 2.5 years since he last played Monty.

Herath is the only world class left arm spinner around and sweeping against on this pitch is not a good option.
Thats what my point was, he has been exposed to left arm spin more than any other spin in last four years.
You'll see him sweeping Dulruwan profusely.

this is why i dont like azhar at 3, looks like a tail ender against spin, even glen maxwell has caged him the past

just turned on tv. Seems like we already lost our openers for poor score. How have Younis Khan and Azher Ali looked so far. I am very surprised to see so much turn for Herath on the first day of the test. Should be a spinner paradise by third day of the test.

Azhar batted quick and showed positive approach with his cover drives and younis looked edgy but looks more comfortable with spin on and the rustiness is wearing off.

Ball is gripping and turning on day 1 ,

Good toss to win for Pakistan tbh

Batting first is always a good decision specially in Asia, even if ball does something pitch is likely to be flat after 1st session..

We seriously need players who can score against spin. Haris and fawad have looked good especially haris.

Decent innings in context, but should be using his feet more.

Savak is nothing in front of me when it comes to opinionating on Misbah's batting with a critical streak.

Nothing personal against Misbah but his leadership role and his cowardice approach to batting has choked the life out young emerging Pak batsman.
He also miserably failed to first identifying NO TALENT in Hafeez, then being unable to have a spine to resist against PCB when they thought to select Hafeez for future captaincy and finally he totally failed to groom Hafeez.
A LOT of time and resources where wasted on Hafeez. That's an irrecoverable loss due to Misbah - the captain.

And look at your sample size of tests played by Azhar under other captains.

Tell me which batsmen we have produced before Misbah's captaincy era (2000s) that were going to make a mark on international cricket in the past 10 years? Yeup none really (YK perhaps only one and that too in Tests). Umar Akmal's downfall began post 2009 after his initial jolt.

Misbah is a scapegoat for Pakistan's lack of batting talent that has preceded him and will stay for a long time (himself included).

On another note, I found it hilarious that when our "emerging" batsmen do well under Misbah, it is because they realized their own batting potential and when they flop its because of Misbah. For example, Nasir Jamshed scored his 3 tons against India under Misbah's captaincy but at that time no one was claiming that it was Misbah's grooming (for fair reason nothing really to suggest as such). However, once he started flopping everyone was claiming that Misbah was responsible for his downfall. Same rationale for Ahmad Shehzad. Apparently same strange nostalgia has been created that pre-Misbah captaincy he was a Virat Kohli in the making, was "aggressive" and that Misbah just sucked the life out of him.

Anyways, just accept the fact that we've been extremely sub-par in our batting "talent" post- 2000s and dont make any one captain/manager a scapegoat of it.

Ajmal will have to deliver in this match. No excuse this time around. Has been below par in the last 2 series.

Ajmal would be really happy seeing that ball. :D :D

Azhar showed alot of positivity which made the 30 possible otherwise it would have been a 14 tuk tuk.

Once again the responsibility falls on the ever reliable Misbah Ul Haq. Captain fantastic to the rescue.

The best we got at the crease now. After this we have an inconsistent shafiq and untested sarfraz.

Azher got a beauty. Poor chap. Looked in good touch until that peach of a delivery. How could a first day pitch has so much turn? It's not even lunch on the first day of the test and the ball is doing so much for the spinners. Let's hope, Ajmal and Rehman take maximum use out of this pitch.

Younus playing a typical Younis innings, shaky, unorthodox but still looking solid in his own way.

Can you imagine if he hangs around long enough to beat Miran Bakhsh. Don't think Savak, Freebird and WL could take it :))

This is very much the last dependable pair, Shafiq is out of touch and Sarf we all know is a glorified tailender

Pakistan in danger of being bowled out today.
Khurram Manzoor's selection is going to cost then moore important series than this. He is garbage, was especially bought in to cement his place against the mighty Zimbabwe. After that ton on a flat road against SA he shows his true colors. It's like the hafeez selection again, a third rate batsman who deceived with a few innings against soft attacks on the flat pitches of UAE.
I actually wish Khurrum had been playing against SA in SA so that we could have called time on his career by then.
Awful awful technique for an opener.

Pitch has moisture, It wont spin as much in 2nd and 3rd innings

Pakistan always nervous starters in a tournament, the body language does seems to be positive.

To bad Azhar couldn't stick longer was an excellent delivery even the umpire didn't realize he was out.

I hope Younis and Misbah play positive cricket especially with the run rate noticed that we have become terrible slow in recent time.
Does have negative impact on the play.

For me you can't succeed in ODIs if you are not a good timer of the ball. Younis is poor against pace.

I don't expect jhaaro in this situation. Stop sweeping from the 5th stump.

:out

Younis gone.

Decision challenged.

oh god. This is getting from bad to worse.

runs are drying up. This pair needs to get us out of trouble. And as I type, Younis is given out. Let's hope, review overturns it.

Umpire gave caught behind so it has to hit the stumps completely in order to have him lbw.

Whew. That was a close call. Not looking good so far for us. I would take 250+ from here onwards. Won't be surprised if we are bundled out under 200 or less.
