There is not much difference , both are average bowlers.

Wahab has greater potential, Wahab can be lethal when he's bowling to the right plan. Wahab would be much quicker and would be roughing up the batsmen, which would be really useful on this track.

I said this because Herath bowled some peaches, beating batsmen on the defense. The Pak spinners do not seem to be getting same level of spin and zip. Of course the batsmen in the middle are miles ahead of most in playing spin

He created chances edges not carrying and all. Plus ajmal and herath are totally different kind of spinners.

Plus I think ajmal is best test spinner (which is debatable) not due to his abilities but lack of quality spinner in world cricket.

I would not mind him breaking the record that is what records are for. I still think it is not easy for him to break it even now would be epic achievement. But I would be disappointed if wicket is made for record and not for result.
