I don't blame the batsmen, superb death bowling by Sri Lanka.

Still 277 is a tall ask, just hoping for a good game! :) Doesn't really affect our chances that greatly if we lose this....but I want to win :afridi
 
seriously that was pathetic in the last 10 overs. Razzaq needs to be dropped now. Enough is enough. Guy cant hit a full toss now

I think it's a pretty good total, SL just bowled well at the end and we got a par score. I'd back us to defend it since the pitch has slowed and we have an extra spinner (which I think SL lacked).
+ We have Gul on a dry track!
 
Why Pakistani fans have small heart? Wicket is getting slower....turning for spinners with bounce!
All the betting companies consider Pakistan favourites now! Ishallah Pakistan to win!
 
Chasing 278 under lights is never gonna be easy. Our fielding should be spot on though. Its 60-40 in Pakistan's favor.
 
well there was good bowling in the end by sri lanka .. some balls were not just there to hit .. I think its decent total for bowlers to bowl at .. If at the start of the day .. someone would offer me this total i would take it
 
yes we can score 300 but short 23!!

we have to give cradit to SL for good bowling in the end!!
 
Come on Pakistan. No way Srilanka is going to win ths one, Afridi to take 5 more wickets, he's in my super selector.

agreed i think umar is extremely misused at 6 him and kamran should switch
 
Our batting order needs to be changed. The balance is not there. We are a bowler short and SL will make us pay especially with Razzaq's pie chuckers.
 
Pakistan have this game in the bag, unless they bowl very poorly.
 
Afridi messed up when he sent Jr in instead of Razzla. It would've been a different game.
 
The bowlers bowled very well especially murali. They were very consistent. In fact part of me thinks this pakistan batting line up did very well, Sri Lanka bowled excellently throughout the match. On this sort of pitch, Sri lankan bowlers are probably the hardest to face.

Mistake by Afridi not to send himself first before umar akmal. Then after afridi came out, razzaq should have come out. There were too few overs for umar to get started, you needed guys able to hit from the word go like afridi and razzaq.

Extremely good innings by Younis Khan. Showed how to really get runs on this pitch, just keep getting the singles.

its a very good total lol considering the highest total chased was 271

Need to drop a batsman for Wahab.

Razzaq's bowling will be a goshat offering for the Sri Lankan batsmen.
 
If you go by stats, the highest score chased here is 271 and that was all the way back in 2002, so yeah. Add to that, the fact that chasing 278 under lights isn't going to be easy, we hold the edge. 60/40 to Pakistan, I say.

And besides, even if we DO lose this, it won't be that bad because we'll still most likely qualify to the quarter-finals in the end, so it'll barely effect our net run rate, since SL are likely to win this in the last over or so anyway :)

Well overall performance was good enough from Paksitan.... aT one stage it looked harder to get even 265! so in that sense big relief!

Also your going againt ur own signature with that post :razzaq
 
The statistics are all on Pakistan's side - only 2 teams have chased anything over 250.

He hasnt performed with the bat at all in the last 8-10 innings. That is beyond a joke for an experienced guy like him

Problem is I don't think we have the standard of spinners Sri Lanka have. Sri lanka on this pitch definitely have the better bowling attack. They have a better fielding unit too.

An advantage we have is that we have 3 good spin options opposed to Sri Lanka's two. That might help to constrict runs.
 
It will be make or break for Razzaq now. If he gets slaughtered with the ball and pak lose today I am pretty sure Razzaq will have to make way for Wahab
 
I think the poor last 10 overs were due to superb death bowling by SL rather than poor hitting.

It wont be easy to face spinners with ball turning + bounce:yk

Pakistan shot themselves in the foot after having begun so well, Misbah and Younis set up what looked to be a total in excess of 300, but Sri Lanka pulled things back smartly in the batting Powerplay. 270-280 was what both captains had targetted at the start of the game. Sri Lanka feel they can get this, Pakistan feel they can defend this. Promises to be quite some contest under lights. Join us for the chase in half an hour.
 
Expect the the ball to swing under the lights. Pakistan hold the advantage but will be slightly worried by the lack of runs in the last 5-6 overs.

Afridi is never dropping Razzaq. Mark my words. Never! I dont think Razzaq has ever been dropped since Afridi took over as captain.
 
The Pitch has gotten slower and that will benefit us.
But don't forget someone will have to take wickets...regularly...
The Game is Even....

The other thing that Afridi mentioned before the Kenya game was that he would not put YK and Misbah together and instead bring Umar up to keep the pace up.

However, I don't think Umar has earned the confidence to play that role and the team management has stuck with the two reliable seniors to atleast keep the wickets intact until the end.

Can't really blame them either, as YK and Misbah have been playing good and at a decent pace. Unfortunately, that changes Umar's role to even more of a slogger, which is something we don't really want him to be, as he is capable of so much more.
 
Wicket seems yo be getting slower... Last few boundaries were mainly hit off full tosses!!!

Unless conditions change (I.e dew comes to play) then I expect us to win this game!!
 
Pakistan really did not play well in the last 10-12 overs.

Should've scored about 30-40 more to get the upper hand
 
I thinkwe are in a position of strength here we've got the score on the board and a quick wicket or two in the 1st 10 overs will put SL on the back foot .

cmon bro. he comes in to bat at 8 with 2-3 overs left. what do u expect of him? make a 50 in 12 balls.
he is a deadly batsman in a pressure cooker situation. :bumble

Whats the point of Razaq on these flat wickets? Wahab is good enough to play in last couple of overs.
 
We were about 20 short but I'd put it down mostly to some excellent death bowling from SL. I think we have the attack to defend this total. :gul
 
score should be enough, but the match is up for grabs.

we will have to bowl well, and take our chances in the field :umarakmal

We will see what he does with the ball today. Im fearing the worst with his pie chuckers. Could get nasty.
 
300 would have been an ideal target, but nonetheless, I think we will defend it.
 
everything worked according to plan, younis, misbah and the openers pretty much did their job, but at the end we did not execute.

yes sri-lanka bowled well, but that is expected of teams at this level. We are not playing kenya here.

I was really coming around on Misbah, but he really frustrates me. His SR of 91 seems good on paper, but if you count the number of dot balls he had in the last 12 overs that is excruciating. He was the set batsman, and did not do anything in the power play. And he does have the ability to hit a six.

If we lose today, I would put the blame on him
 
Score is not bad, but we never lost to SL in WC.
Pitch is slow & flat
50-50 IMO, due factor, lack of spin attack, fielding must be sharp let us see
But batting is looking good.
 
Incredible death bowling by srilanka even in the absence of malinga! it just shows the depth they have in there bowling, the game is evenely poised for me the total is defendable but sri lanka can also chase this down its really down to shoaib akhtar and his opening bowling partner hmm razzaq or umarr gul? to bowl really well in the first 10 overs
 
Shoaib needs wickets today. No two ways about it. He is a strike bowler and must strike today

i also think if we dropped kamran and gave umar the gloves and played another bowler in his place it would balance our team out
 
The two legends in the middle Sanga and Mahela are key, as were YK and Misbah.

Hafeez and his ability to bowl tight overs will be key. Get the run rate over 6 early in the match and SL will be up against it against Gul at the death.
 
I also did not like AbdulRazzaqs body language, yes only 2 overs left when he came in, but I was expecting him to swing on every ball. If you get out so what,

he seemed a little pissed off that he did nto get to go in earlier, or that so few overs were left for him
