Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have agreed to send their team to play a Test match in Lahore, Pakistan in October, ARY News reported on Wednesday.

According to the sources, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) held successful talks with SLC as now Pakistan will witness Test cricket after the gap of almost 10 years. Pakistan last played a Test at their home ground against the same opposition in 2009.

The PCB is also confident to host Sri Lanka for three ODIs and as many T20Is in Pakistan in December as they are trying to convince the SLC.

On the other hand, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have also given a positive response to the PCB to play two Tests and three T20Is in Pakistan in February. Bangladesh’s government will take the decision following the security situation in the country.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan Super League (PSL) has paved the way for the PCB to revive international cricket in Pakistan. The final of PSL season two laid down the solid foundation for Pakistan to once again host high-profile cricket events in the country.

Pakistan have so far hosted PSL matches in Karachi and Lahore, World XI, West Indies, and Sri Lanka since 2017.

Hopefully it is true .Watching test match in Pakistan after 10 years it will be so good to watch

No, I'll only believe this once SLC release an official statement.

Watch Mickey play 4 pacers and a pace bowling alrounder.

God forbid. No way. These jokers have lost us too much games to deserve it. Especially shafiq. Mediocre af player.

well i can also pick some fantasy team but realistically both will play sl series unless a major injury to both

BD will not come, their government is India's biggest friends when it comes to us and Hasina dislikes us aplenty.

SLC to Send Security Expert Before Deciding on Pakistan Tour

Karachi: The Sri Lankan Cricket Board (SLC) will soon be sending a security expert to Pakistan to assess the situation there before it takes a decision on whether to send the national team to the country.

Official sources in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday clarified to PTI that Sri Lanka are yet to decide whether to send their team to Lahore and Karachi for the two ICC World Test Championship matches in September-October this year.

"The PCB has been in touch with them and has asked them to send their security expert so that we can make a presentation to him and he can judge for himself independently what the security situation is in Pakistan," the source said.

He said the PCB had informed the Sri Lankan board they wanted the two ICC Test Championship matches played in Karachi and Lahore.

"The Sri Lankan board has told us they are in a period of transition and that they would have definite talks on this issue at the ICC's annual conference in London," he added.

Sri Lankan team bus was attacked in March 2009 in Lahore near the Gaddafi stadium, which led to Pakistan being isolated as an international test venue.

Since 2009 Pakistan has been forced to play all its "home" Tests in UAE or at other neutral venues with teams refusing to come to the country because of security concerns.

Sri Lankan board had sent its team last October 2017 to Lahore for a lone T20 international which was part of the home series played in the UAE while West Indies also played three T20 internationals in Karachi last year in March-April.

But teams have avoided long tours or playing ODIs and Test matches in Pakistan.

The PCB had lodged a protest with Cricket Australia earlier this year that it made a decision on playing its ODI series against Pakistan in UAE without first sending their security expert to Pakistan to review the situation.

As a result of Pakistan's protest, Cricket Australia Chairman and Chief Executive are scheduled to visit Lahore sometime in October.

Fingers-crossed.

Hopefully this goes ahead and other teams also follow the Lankans lead.

Pakistan cricket needs a much-needed boost.

Hope they select the team right this time. World needs Pakistan as a new venue.

Oh man, a test at Lahore and Karachi. I really hope it happens. NSK was our fortress. I hope out pitch curators remember how to make pitches for Tests still. :))

I think Sl would be more comfortable playing the tests in UAE, however if there is a 3 match or 5 match odi series play at least 2 of them in Karachi.

Some Pak tarot card reader predicted the same!:wa Sri Lanka are coming.

If Pakistan and New Zealand can tour SL after the massive terrorist blasts in SL recently, why can;t SL and other countries come to Pakistan, 10 years after. Players and spectator's safety should be the first priority and ICC should form a team of security experts and once they are satisfied with security arrangements in a particular country, they should clear it, officially.

Would like to see Gujranwala get to host a white ball game as well.

Great news for Pakistan if it really happens. Security issue seems to have improved after Imran Khan came to power.

Fingers-crossed.

Hopefully this goes ahead and other teams also follow the Lankans lead.

Pakistan cricket needs a much-needed boost.

Would be highly symbolic if the last side to play Tests in Pakistan is also the one to play the first Test on resumption of international tours

Is anyone going to go to the stadium and watch a boring test match?!!
I can see an almost empty stadium!!
Should stick to t20s and odis, being played in pakistan!!

This could become embarrassing!!

Are you 5?

WDYM by "stick to t20is and odis"?

Name me the countries who host LOI matches but not test matches.

lol! I watched my first test match in 1982 - england vs pakistan!!
I enjoy test matches, even the dire borefest in uae!
The fact is even before 2009 SL terrorist attack, pakistanis hardly went to watch test matches! Apart from india, test matches are dying in the subcontinent!
Maybe there will be high enthusiasm for a SL test series in pak, if it occurs, but if there is a return to test matches in pakistan for good, the turn out will be poor!
Pakistanis prefer odis and especially t20s!
Can't fight the truth, just a sign of the tmes!!

Would be amazing. I know ODI's and T20I's would be more entertaining for the fans but the first Test in Pakistan in this decade would be a huge deal!

This is great news, will love to see cricket back in Pakistan. Who know, if this works out fine, may be Indian team will also come for a series in next couple of years.

We need to build a world class stadium in Islamabad. The most secure place in Pakistan.

The stadium in Rawalpindi is third class, and also it is in a very congested place. Some fools say it is a waste of moeny, but once it starts hosting PSL matches and international matches, it will generate its own money through tickets and ad revenue.

Sri Lanka unsure of Pakistan tour

The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is hesitant about a tour of Pakistan later this year because they are unsure about the freedom their player’s would enjoy during the tour.

According to Daily Express, a two-part series that features limited-overs cricket in Karachi and Lahore seems likely. The Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Ehsan Mani is scheduled to hold talks with SLC officials during an International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting in this regard.

The Sri Lanka men’s cricket team was attacked in 2009 in Lahore which made Pakistan an undesirable destination for future tours. The previous PCB administration was successful in bringing cricket back to the country; however, that success has been confined to limited-overs cricket.

Now the PCB is seeking to bring Test cricket back as well. The Sri Lanka cricket team is being pursued in this regard for a tour later this year. The Islander’s tour is expected to be played in two parts. Two Tests in September and October while three T20Is and One-day International’s (ODIs) are expected to be played in December.

The PCB had invited the Sri Lankan team to play Tests in Karachi and Lahore a few months back however they have refrained from a definitive response. The Chairman of the PCB is now expected to persuade Sri Lanka officials during the ICC meetings in London.

According to sources the SLC is satisfied with the security arrangements but have an issue with the players being strictly confined to their hotel. Officials think there should be a gap of three days since the Test matches will last for 10 days which makes the tour a 15-day affair.

During this time it would not be feasible for players to be confined to the stadium and hotel.

Pakistan’s security situation is not similar to the UAE where players can go around without security. PCB also gave them an option to play a solitary test in Pakistan to which the SLC is yet to respond.

If Sri Lanka does not agree to the tour they will then be invited to play limited-overs cricket in Pakistan. The Islanders also visited Pakistan to play a T20I match in Lahore in 2017.

Agreed, we need a Rafi Stadium in Islamabad.

Sri Lankan cricket board's security team to arrive in Pakistan in August

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday announced that Sri Lanka Cricket has sent reassurance that their security team will be visiting Pakistan in August.

The development was announced on PCB's official Twitter account:

"The Sri Lanka cricket board has assured PCB of sending a security team. A delegation of the Sri Lankan cricket board will visit Pakistan in August. The finalised dates for the delegation's arrival will be announced soon. A Test series between Sri Lanka and Pakistan is scheduled for October."

PCB has been negotiating with Sri Lanka regarding holding a two-match Test series to be played in October in Pakistan instead of at a neutral venue.

Pakistan have not host any nation for any Test match owing to security-related issues after the horrifying terrorist attack on the visiting Sri Lankan team, which was playing a Test match, in Lahore on March 3, 2009.

Since then, the PCB has been successfully hosting foreign teams for bilateral home series at the neutral venues of the UAE. However, holding the home series in the UAE is costing the PCB very high, and due to this factor the Board has long been trying to bring foreign teams back to Pakistan for international matches.

After hosting Zimbabwe (ODI and T20 International series in Lahore, 2015), World XI team comprising players from different Test-playing countries (three-match T20 International series in Lahore, 2017), Sri Lanka (one T20 Inter*national in Lahore, 2017) and West Indies (three-match T20 International series in Karachi, 2018), the PCB has been gradually moving towards fully restoring international cricket in the country.

Moreover, a number of Pakistan Super League T20 matches — featuring prominent Pakistani and foreign cricketers — have been held in Pakistan since 2017 after the PCB staged the entire 2016 inaugural edition in the UAE. The 2017 PSL final was hosted by Lahore; in 2018 PSL, two playoffs were held in Lahore while the final was organised in Karachi. In the 2019 edition, as many as eight PSL matches including the final were held in Karachi.

As all the above-mentioned international matches and PSL games went smoothly without any security incident, the PCB efforts have raised hopes of top-level international cricket, including Test matches, returning to Pakistan.

Prior to the recently-held five-match ODI series played between Pakistan and Australia in the UAE, the PCB tried to convince Cricket Australia to play a few of the games in Pakistan, an offer which CA declined.

My speculation: The Sri Lanka tour of Pakistan will go ahead.

My other speculation: Stadiums will be empty during the proposed test matches.

stadiums will be packed for odis and t20s but empty for tests. may as well play tests in uae

It's not just about that. Pakistan should be playing Test cricket in Pakistan! There may be empty seats and lack of atmopshere but would still be a huge occasion, even if just 1 Test could be in Pakistan

Sri Lanka has every right to check how safe the country is. I expect most matches will be in Punjab if the tour goes through.

I think opposite (for both) - at most they might play couple of T20s in PAK. It's just not ready and PCB better try not to hatch the egg too early. PCB needs to arrange whole PSL in PAK first, otherwise I don't see a 3 weeks tour happening.

The Test series that PAK played against SRL last time (that cursed series), if wickets remain same, I am sure there will be some spectators in the ground - at least to pee on the wicket (It deserved some solid particles as well with pee). PAK & SRL has played some of the most exciting Tests in 1990s & 2000s, most of those in PAK as well, starting from 1994 series - if the wickets remain similar to those tracks, then there is no reason for several thousand paid crowd to come in last couple of days. In this era, I don't think you expect people to come on in a Test starting in Monday (thus finishing on Friday and players enjoying Golf on weekends), that read PAK 450-7d, SRL 201-2 ... after 3 days with 80 overs max played in a day and teams scoring at 2.56 rate .....

Test matches are not popular in PAK only because of PCB - it's despised to such level that my hunch is PCB tries it's best to make it as boring as possible so that they can have an excuse not to arrange many. A good Test match is like an epic - starts boring but gradually entices fans into the game with it's twists and turns ...... PCB's Tests entices them to vomit after Day 3.

SL cricket security team to visit Pakistan on August 6

A security delegation from the Sri Lankan cricket board will arrive in Pakistan on August 6.

The security delegation will visit venues in Karachi and Lahore. The PCB has offered Sri Lanka to play two Test matches in Pakistan.

The security delegation will travel to August 8 where they will be briefed about the security situation in the country.

Pakistan and Sri Lanka are scheduled to play a series in October.

Pakistan last hosted a Test match on home soil back in 2009. It was on March 3, 2009, when Sri Lanka 's team bus, taking the players to the Gaddafi Stadium for a Test against Pakistan, was hit by bullets and grenades in an attack by armed militants.

It was six years until an international team visited again, with Pakistan forced to play the majority of their home games in the United Arab Emirates — a situation that continues to this day.

Minnows Zimbabwe were the first to venture into Pakistan after the attack, playing two T20 and three one-day internationals in 2015.

Under heavy security, Sri Lanka made an emotional return to the Gaddafi Stadium for a one-off T20 international in October 2017. The West Indies also played three T20 internationals in Karachi last April.

In recent years, Pakistan has hosted several matches including the final and some matches of the second, third and fourth edition of the Pakistan Super League.

ICC World Test C'ship: Security delegation from Sri Lanka Cricket to visit Pakistan

Karachi: A two-member security delegation of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC)will reach here on Wednesday to decide if it is safe for its national team to tour Pakistan in October for a round of the ICC World Test Championship.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ehsan Mani said that the Sri Lankan delegation will visit the grounds and hotels where the teams will stay in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad besides meeting the board, police and security officials.

He said the Sri Lankan board has said it would take a final decision on sending its team to Pakistan for the two-Test series based on the report by its security delegation.

"The Sri Lankan security delegation will be in Karachi on 6th August and then travel to Lahore and Islamabad," he confirmed.

Top test teams stopped touring Pakistan after terrorists attacked the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore in March 2009.

The Sri Lankan team was in the middle of a Test match and was going to the Gaddafi stadium when its bus came under attack.

Since then no Test matches have been played in Pakistan neither a full bilateral series although Zimbabwe, Kenya, ICC World Eleven, Sri Lanka and West Indies have come for short visits to Lahore and Karachi to play limited over games.

Mani said he was confident the Sri Lankan board would give due consideration to PCB's request to play the ICC Test Championship matches in Pakistan.

Mani said that the PCB's thrust was now to convince other boards to send their teams to Pakistan and said the top officials of Cricket Australia and the England and Wales Cricket Board will also be visiting the country soon.
