New Delhi, Oct 17: The President of Sri Lanka, Mathripala Sirisena has made a shocking allegation in which he said that India's external spy agency, Research and Analysis Wing was planning on assassinating him.

He is said to have said this at the weekly Cabinet meeting. He however added that India's Prime Minister, Narendra Modi may not be aware of this, The Hindu reported while quoting sources.

If this information is correct then this is the second time that Sri Lanka has accused India of meddling in its affairs. In 2015, following his defeat, former President, Mahinda Rajapaksa held the R&AW responsible for the change in regime.
(...)
This development comes just days ahead of the Sri Lankan PM's visit to India. He said at the meeting that he would get some clarity on the issue after his meeting with Narendra Modi.

Why do so many neighbours blame India for notorious activities? Evil world conspiring against innocent India.

President never mentioned RAW: President’s Advisor

Clarifying the media reports that President Maithripala Sirisena was reported to have mentioned at the cabinet meeting held on Tuesday (16), about an alleged plot to assassinate him by the Indian Intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), Advisor and Coordinating Secretary to President Sirisena Shiral Lakthilaka said the President had never mentioned the term RAW in the above context.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Mr. Lakthilaka said the President had only referred to an Indian intelligence service but not RAW.

“The President has spoken in general terms about secret services of attempting to assassinate leaders. The President has assured that Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi was unaware of these moves. There was no mention of RAW at all,” Lakthilaka said.

Several local and international media reported that President Sirisena, who was speaking at the weekly Cabinet meeting, had reportedly told Ministers that the Indian intelligence agency RAW was “trying to kill” him.

Why do neighbors and the world accuse Pakistan of funding terrorists as a state policy? Evil world or is it the truth?

I am sure you knew that.

India isn't in Afghanistan to sell vegetable burgers.

Sri Lankan President telephones PM Modi to dispel reports of Delhi's role in assassination plot Re

NEW DELHI: President of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena telephoned Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday to categorically reject the reports in sections of media about him alluding to the involvement of India in any manner whatsoever in an alleged plot to assassinate the President and a former Defence Secretary of Sri Lanka.

ET has learnt that he mentioned to Modi that the mischievous and malafide reports were utterly baseless and false, and seemed intended to create misunderstandin between the two leaders as well as damage the cordial relations between the two friendly neighbours.

The President apprised the Prime Minister of the urgent steps taken by him personally and the Government of Sri Lanka to publicly reject these reports. In this context, he also recalled his meeting with the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka on Wednesday morning.

ET also learnt that he also stated to PM that he regards the Prime Minister as a true friend of Sri Lanka, as also a close personal friend. He stressed that he greatly valued the mutually beneficial ties between India and Sri Lanka, and remained steadfast to work with the Prime Minister for further strengthening it.

Modi, according to sources, appreciated the prompt steps taken by the President and his Government to firmly refute the malicious reports by publicly clarifying the matters. He also reiterated India’s emphasis on ‘neighbourhood first’ policy and the priority the Government of India and he personally attach to developing even stronger all-round cooperation between the two countries.

Earlier, Sri Lanka Foreign Ministry termed media reports quoting Sirisena on a plot by India's external agency to assassinate him as completely baseless and fabricated.

"The attention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been drawn to media reports attributed to President Maithripala Sirisena alleging the involvement of an Indian Intelligence Service in a plot to assassinate him," the Ministry said in statement.

The Ministry wishes to clarify that the media reports in this connection are baseless and false, the statement added.

Incidentally, the reports appeared a day ahead of Lankan PM's visit to India.

"The Ministry wishes to emphasize that relations between Sri Lanka and India including at the highest levels of government are strong, encompassing multiple spheres including intelligence sharing. It is disappointing therefore that matters of this nature have become the subject of distorted and erroneous media reports taking the President’s remarks out of context, which has given rise to further media and social media speculation and the spread of unfounded fear among the public."

Now you post another link where it has been denied. Of course India will deny this but we know since Pakistan helped Sri Lanka to finish off the Indian backed terrorists, it's upset Bharat.

Sri Lankan President is not India, Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry isnt India either.

the way he backtracked looks like RAW is indeed threatening his life. :misbah3

To call this backtracking, you will first have to verify the credibility of that anonymous Sri Lankan source. Or perhaps, India really is that strong today. Trying to assassinate another country's President, yet he calls Modi, sucks up and will shortly be in India for ModiJi's famous jhappi. :))
