Was dragged to theaters to watch ZERO by some bolly loving friends.
What an absolutely mediocre movie it turned out to be. Couldn't believe it's the same Shahrukh who used to give us so many memorable films earlier. Suffice to say his charm has been worn off .
Apparently the film has underperformed on day 1 despite extensive releases + Christmas vacations.

Alvida Shah Rukh Khan. Please retire now.

SRK has not given a single good movie for almost a decade now. I think his last good movie was Chak De. The problem with romantic actor like SRK is, once they grow old...they cant do same romance anymore. And SRK cant act in other non-romantic serious roles because he is not a versatile actor.

I love how the thread starts with an excuse for watching the movie. :))

It's ok man, we won't judge you. :djb

I think it's fair to say that Bollywood is dying, and South Indian cinema is taking over. Swashbuckler

How dare you!!!! :@

Hate the script and narrative but SRK delivers, always :mv

I think SRK is going through the same phase which Amitabh Bachan was going through. He needs to realise comic/romantic roles may not suit him anymore.

I think Dilwale and Raees were quite watchable movies. As a starter SRK needs to grow back that beard and play his real age in the movies.

I was traumatised by chennai express then never watched another bollywood movie until FAN which was outstanding, SRK will never lose it but like you say needs to focus more on quality and genre moving forward but these masala movies do so well financially on a global scale that he keeps making them

SRK these days look like a proper nashedi/Junkie.
Nobody from the younger generation seem to admire him which is quite in contrast with the time when I was growing up where he used to be a heartthrob for women of all age.

:)))
Okay :moyo

Really, that was his best movie in like years and his performance was critically acclaimed. But because the mainstream couldn't relate to that early 2000's style/premise it wasn't as big a financial success and one of the reasons we don't get stuff beyond the usual masala types but FAN was for the enthusiasts and hardcore movie lovers rather then just wanting to see a popcorn flick

SRK is 55 year old. At the same age, Amitabh Played Aishwarya's father role in Mohabbatein. So you are right, he cant do romance anymore and need to act as per his age.

Lets not feel too bad for the guy.. after all he's worth around $700m and done it largely by playing the same character with the same name (Rahul).

I actually loved Chennai Express :D
It was a cheeky movie but i think the nice songs and Deepika’s charm helped keep the movie together

Lol, same. I thought I hated it for being so pointless, but now that I think of it, every scene and song just makes me happy. :))

SRK's worth is mostly due to KKR team and Red Chillies production company that he owns. No one can earn so much money only by acting.

I do not know how SRK ever was a heart throb or Deepika could be charming. Neither of them are blessed with looks. I guess good make up and above average acting helps them to attract fans.

I think SRK has aged badly as well. This is what happens to chain smokers.

Dont smoke kids. Forget moral science and even your health. If you dont want to look 70 when you are 50, dont smoke.

This is true, my friend drinks and smokes a bit and is only 22 but looks like he is 25+

To be fair in those days I was too much of a snob and my mate enjoyed it so much more. These days I never watch a movie with any expectations so perhaps I would enjoy Chennai more now lol I think individual performances were good although too cheesy but didn't like the usual masala style and narrative

SRK gets touchy if you ever mention his age. I thought this clip from the Zero launch was kinda funny.

<iframe src="https://streamable.com/s/s68v7/mlgcpi" frameborder="0" width="100%" height="100%" allowfullscreen style="width:100%;height:100%;position:absolute;left:0px;top:0px;overflow:hidden;"></iframe>

From what I have seen of SRK, he had a very niche role as a heartthrob, not a particularly handsome one either, but mostly based on passion and emotion. Given that he must be close to 60 now, there was obviously going to be a shelf life for that sort of role. He's had a good innings, time for him to retire with a well deserved guard of honour. Loved the guy even with all his melodromatic overacting.

mnik,don2,fan,raees were non romantic movies & released after chak de india.
imo he is most versatile among mainstream Bollywood actors & can pull of various kind characters with ease.

Yet to see zero so can't comment on it but I loved his performances in his recent movies - Jhms, raees, dear zindagi, fan. Movies may be flawed but I absolutely loved the characters he portrayed. As an actor he is getting better imo.
Infact he was robbed of a national award for "fan" instead that biased jury gave it to akshay for crap "rustom".

Imo as an actor he has lot to offer but for that he need to leave behind that baggage which come with superstar tag. I really Hope he make smooth transition towards premium Netflix tv series like saif ali khan did or character oriented roles In movies.

His main problem is script selection which he himself admitted recently that he is not very good at.

I was going to say the same. It took Amitabh good 10 years to realize he can't perform young lead roles

He's trying to be Dev Anand who played roles half his age, but he doesn't have nearly enough charm or skill to pull it off.

Think he should try to do more serious movies now. That should be his genré from now on. He has shown that he is capable as a serious actor in movies like Swades (one of the best movies ever in bollywood), Chak de, Dear Zindagi, Billu Barber, Darr, Bazigar etc. Personally feel that his recent movie "Fan" deserved a better reception because he acted brilliantly in it. However, he seems to be forcing his romantic image in every single movie which isnt working for him anymore.

Do not like SRK & do not watch his movies . Last 2 movies of his i watched after recommendations & liked were Swades & Chak De [ saw both these once in Theater & about 4-5 times on TV ] . Watched Chennai Express & Om Shanti Om for Deepika only .
He looks hideous now & is a average actor .

SRK is still making more money then most Bollywood hero's. He won't be going anywhere for a long time. Let those who want to watch Bollywood do so. I also left it so many years back.

SRK belongs in the 90’s. He is neither versatile nor skilled enough to play anything else other than ‘boy meets girl’ roles. Look at Amir for comparison. What a class act.

Karan Johar will make sure his best buddy SRK continues to rule Bollywood:stokes

Dont agree. SRK has played a variety of roles

I disagree. Srk is more versatile imo.

His recent movies may not be working as well as it use to be on the boxoffice but that doesn't mean his performances as an actor are bad. Infact I would say that as an actor he is performing his career best right now.Even for "zero" I have read majority of reviews praising his performance.
I think it's his bad luck that his director's are failing him nowadays.

Unfortunately I'm being dragged to see it next weekend.

I hope it tanks bigtime and the cinemas decide to stop screening it before said weekend comes along. I can live in hope.

If not, I'll come back here and tell you what I made of it.

Convince your partner/friend to watch Ralph breaks the internet instead if they are showing in cinemas :)

Aamir Khan had his first major flop in the last 13 years in the form of Thugs of Hindostan but everyone has the confidence that he will bounce back given his tremendous versatility as an actor. Can't really remember the last time SRK delivered a pure block buster. He needs to change and reevaluate his roles

I don't like Indian cinema, be it Bollywood or some other 'XXXXwood'. Fair to say that even if South Indian cinema takes over, it is mediocrity replacing mediocrity.

The khans overall are declining, be it srk, Salman or Aamir, the thing is newer generation are getting smart and valuing content rather than star, that is why you are seeing some big names tanking at box office,Aamir does release movie like a couple of year later, Srk does his college a chora act Salman shows his injected body am glad people are done with them, meanwhile newer actors are much smarter than these guys, guys like aayushman, Vicky, rajkumar are better actors, Dhawan and rajput, ranveer are better dancers along with tiger, plus tiger and vidyut are better fighters, look at some of the films this year that did well these guys failed to change according to time and hence have declined.

Karan Johar will make sure his best buddy SRK continues to rule Bollywood:stokes

Karan Johar has also moved on from SRK and giving young actors a chance. His last 2 directorial ventures were 'Student of the year' and 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil'. Both were romantic movies and did brilliantly bcoz young actors played leading role in them. Imagine SRK acting as college student in Student of the year? :))

Stop making foolish ignorant posts.
Srk did cameo in "ae dil hai mushkil" where he played his age. Karan is still close friend of him. They both together produced
"dear zindagi" in which srk played supporting role in it.
last time when Srk was shown as college student back in 2004 release "main hu na" in which also he was shown as 30 year old something guy.

If you guys find SRK not versatile enough then what about Salman Khan? He is way worse and always has done easy movies. One could say he knows his limitations.

SRK has struggled and looks too old for the roles he does, but got to give credit to him for at the least trying new things instead of doing the same Rahul type roles. Not everyone can be Amir, but he tried.

As I said to my friends Ranbir/Ranvir will rule bollyland for now.

Karan makes all kinds of movies. The SOTY did not have a role for someone of Shahrukh's age or image which is why he was not cast. Being best friends does not mean Karan will always employ Sharukh's services in every movie. It depends on the story and script of the film.

Salman Khan was smart, he knew that action is the only real genre that fans love him in and he stuck to that and it has by and large worked for him from 2009-10 onwards. Aamir is the most versatile and you can back him to pull off any role given to him.

Shahrukh Khan, i am afraid is not going to be able to deliver the same kind of numbers he did early on. He can pull off the critically acclaimed performances but his big box office days are gone.

How much money did ranbir/ranvir movies make vs salman?

I last saw SRK in Fan, which was one of the last Bollywood movies I watched.

He was quite good in that film, in both the roles he played.

When he plays the roles suiting his age, he is actually a good actor.

Roles that involve romancing with actresses 25 years younger than him doesn't look good for his age.

I think Srk.is doing better than 5 years ago in terms of acting, problem is he is isn't letting directors do their job, or maybe directors are trying to make bigger.movies around him losing their way, both Imtiaz and Anand are decent directors.

The Khans are over in sense the current generation that spends on watching movies aren't really interested in them as Ayushman ,Rajkumar with different scripts.

Salman has one formula. And it will work regardless. In Salman movies, people go to watch Salman, not the story or acting or any other aspect....

So you can't be disappointed at any movie. His movie will always make money regardless.

Zero was great before the intermission but a weird film afterwords. I thought SRK and Anushkas acting was great but the story line was not great in the second half of the film.

What ever people say about SRK; appreciate that he is a self made man and had bollywood at his feet for years. Hope he does more films like Swades and grows his beard as that suited his looks.

Watched Zero yesterday.

What a pathetic, ridiculous and awful film. One of the worst films I have ever seen.

Honestly You deserve it.
Almost all the Bollywood films you watch and post about on here are some of the real awful ones. Make sure to check out the reviews first brother.

Virat Kohli is full marketing his wife's movie in twitter. Aparently its a great film as per him :))

It's end of super stardom of Khans in Bollywood. No actor in future will reach such levels of adolation in future

You have to admire though that SRK takes risks. He is trying to do new roles/characters and there is always a chance things wont go well.

Seriously man, you really go out of your way to watch awful Bollywood movies that we Indians don't bother about as well.

Andhadhun ,Badhai ho and Stree were good any case Andhadhun on Netflix..

Films like Swades is what he needs to do. He can't be doing the same romantic roles now as he did in his 30's.

Did not watched the film yet. I dont like this plot though playing a dwarf, romancing near 6ft Katrina.

But to say 'please retire' when he has given bollywood and Made name for India, so big ways. It's just sad. Without Shahrukh, Salam, Aamir, Bollywood would be still at domestic level, not gone this far internationally.

Him and Salman Khan have ruined their legacies in my eyes with the absolute cartoon type movies they have made in the last 8 years or so. All the childhood Bollywood memories and these guys used to be at the forefront of them, but now they are clinging onto something that doesn’t exist anymore. Time to call it a day and pave way for the future.

Salman especially needs to find a Ms. Khan and settle down, enough of this gunning down any random 20 years younger chokri that walks by.

To be honest, being unmarried for 53 plus years, it is going to be impossible for him to have the patience required for married life. Even though he is very set for life financially, he is too used to the single life not having to answer to anybody.

I sometimes feel it at 33 years old. Adjusting to someone closer to my age means the girl will be too mature, with an independent career of her own, while which is not a bad thing, but the risk is the girl too is too set in her ways as well. I have heard the occasional horror story where both the guy and the girl when they marry late in life, have their own jobs, careers, circle of friends, are too set and used to living their own lives that they end up having nothing in common and find it a nuisance to live with each other and start missing the freedom, independence that they had.

Similary the advantage for a guy marrying someone younger is that there are chances that she might look up to him, respect his seniority, life experience and better chances she can be moulded to behave the way he desires, but lol then again i have heard horror stories where there was just too big a maturity gap between the couples with big age differences.

Whatever is in the destiny of the respective people and whatever works for them.

I really do not like when grown men cannot mature.

Especially worse when they glorify the younger women.

Creeps.

Another waste of a movie where Khan plays an over the top caricature of himself (if such a thing was possible). At least Duplicate was supposed to be an intentional comedy.

Duplicate was too good.
It's my aunt's favorite movie.

He is taking risks now as his masala movies were not doing well. Amir has been making radically different movies with completely different characters for decade or more now

His last 2 proper masala movies Chennai Express and Happy New year were his highest grossers. Raees is abit masala movie too and was a hit despite clash. But Since then he gone to experiment with films like Fan, JHMS and now Zero. He needs to make a few masala movies to get his domestic box office collections back on track. Something like a Dhoom 4 or a Sanjay Leela Bhansali/Rajkumar Hirani movie.

That's basically every Khan movie this decade. All these chottus end up pairing with near 6ft girls.

They are all pretty short arent they?? And of coirse they have to star opppsite katrina who is the top heroine.. they should seriously invest in her acting classes though! She is terrible at acting.

I dont watch any salman khan or shahrukh khan films anymore.. they are terrible actors..
