Star Wars: The rise of Skywalker thread

Its pointless to argue with you because you are always apparently correct according to yourself. The least I can do is request the Mods to delete any posts that are derailing the thread into a general Star Wars discussion or a political discussion. If your posts are considered relevant and are not deleted so be it.

Please don’t turn this on me now. You clearly acted irrationally by singling me out when it was abundantly clear that I stepped aside after stating that I would not derail the thread further (post 27).

Apparently, if I reply to others I am derailing the thread, but the others who are actually asking me questions are not guilty of derailing the thread. That is some brilliant logic.

My conclusion is that you have a problem with me instead of the derailing of the thread. I cannot offer any other explanation for why you singled me out.

Anyway, since you have a problem with me, I will happily step out of here. Have a good day.

Thankfully the saga is over. It hasn’t been the same since it got infected by the feminism virus and decided to play to the galleries. I am not a chauvinist, but I have no appreciation for forced feminism.

And it certainly didn’t fit in the Star Wars saga. Princess Leia is a strong female character, and she wasn’t the product of aggressive feminist ideology. It is possible to have female heroes without shoving feminism down the throats of the audience.

I personally can't wait for the new Scarface movie, apparently Eva Longoria is playing the protagonist.

Tell me you are joking.

I'm fine with the Rey story as she is a new character that will somehow fit into the whole skywalker saga, there is supposed to be a big revelation about her Origins in the movie. It's not like they turned Luke into a girl.

However making James Bond a girl or making one of the Men in Black a girl is not right. You can make a seperate spy movie with a Female character. Make a new movie with a female lead if you want to. It's James Bond not Jemima Bond. It'sMen in black, not People in black.

I don't have a problem with a female lead in movies, howver you shouldn't change old movies where the lead has been a male for many years and make the lead a Female.

Absolutely. Make as many new, strong female characters as you want but please don’t ruin established characters with a legacy.

My thoughts -

Rey (Light) and Ren (Dark) are who the force has decreed to be the natural opposites of one another, and they are therefore equal in terms of power.

Palpatine (via possession of Snoke) has spent many years gradually luring them together so they can unite in front of him and carry on his Sith legacy.

I also think it’s likely that Rey is Palaptine’s granddaughter - this would match Ren being Vader’s grandson, hence the two great powers of Light and Dark would both be 3rd generation descendants of Sith Lords.

The Granddaughter theory is unrealistic because there is no mention of Palpatine’s Wife, children etc in the prequels and the originals. There is also the idea that Anakin was the son of Palpatine due to some force magic. Hence, Ren is actually the great grandson of Darth Siddieous.

Rey is still a strange, out of place character

I like this theory.

Star Wars: Nine major moments in the final Rise of Skywalker trailer

The final trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the last film in the current Disney trilogy, has been revealed.

It's packed with action, adventure and vague hints of what might unfold over the upcoming movie's two-and-a-half hour running time.

The trailer shows old favourites back to help or haunt the heroes of the film and introduces a few new faces.

And these are some of the most important moments from it.

I also reckon Rey is Palpatine's granddaughter. It's very likely Palpatine had children as he was a sith lord, not a jedi. He might not have made it public.

I feel sorry for Anakin and Padme though. They are never ever mentioned. Padme had an important role, but she is completely disregarded.

Also how did they get Princess Leia. Did they use some sort of CGI or a new actress.

I think the rise of Skywalker is referring to Kylo Ren, he will redeem himself and finish his grandfather's mission of killing Palpatine and ending the Sith.

Does anyone think any character from the old animated series will be of any importance. Will Ahsoka Tano or Ezra Bridger will make an apperance.

Ezra was a Jedi that was trained during the empire's reign and after freeing his home planet he kind of sacrificed himself for his planet and left with Grand Admiral Thrawn (his enemy). He's definitely alive and maybe could be important as he was a surviving Jedi.

Why should Bond retire from active service? Just so that we can maintain political correctness?

Age catches up with all of us. He's going to be in retirement in Jamaica, and the new 007 played by Lashana Lynch comes to visit.

Rey is a clone with genes taken from Anakin/Vader...
This means technically Rey is Ren’s grandfather...

Rey will bring balance between light and darkness and a new force known as Skywalker will emerge.

Ahsoka, Ezra and Thrawn would be better tackled in The Mandalorian. With Sabine Wren (also a Mandalorian).

By the current timeline, Ahsoka would be about 80, Ezra about Luke's age and Thrawn would be old too.

However, you can see Hera Syndulla's ship The Ghost in the trailer. As I mentioned earlier, it might have her and Kanan's son Jacen in it.

I hope. Star wars characters live till very old, so it's possible.

They released a new TV spot today I think. Some epic cinematography but no real insight of the storyline. I hope they don’t blow the Palpatine angle

Ok, after seeing Kylo Ren clip in the sith temple...I AM HYPED!!

Always excited for a Star Wars film especially as i’ve Seen each one in the cinema as they were released, dating back to 1977...

HOWEVER,
after last Jedi I am expecting a pile of rubbish yet quietly hoping for something good.

The latest Kylo Ren trailer has made it awfully interesting. That 45 second clip alone is more epic than the entire two Disney movies and The Phantom Menace

Whilst going into a general discussion, it is widely thought that Anakin’s arc or Darth Vader’s character is what keeps the franchise going. However there is no doubt that the guy who plays Palpatine is equally capable of carrying the Franchise. Top class actor with perfect dialogue delivery. Even as a clever politician, tactician the guy is on point with his acting. Really does remind me of elite big wigs in major businesses and politics

SPOILER ALERT

So so disappointed! Well made movie, but how can you completely disregard the ending of the return of the Jedi so ruthlessly is beyond me! JJ Abrams has destroyed the franchise. Rey completely destroys a fully powered Palpatine, something Mace Windu, Yoda and Luke Skywalker could not do! Even Kylo Ren had no chance against him!

Zero mention of Anakin, not even his name is mentioned once in the movie!

^ it doesn’t surprise me.

The force is stronger when you are a female Jedi in the age of toxic feminism.

Kathleen Kennedy and J. J. Abrams are toxic feminists.

Toxic feminists are the ones who promise exclusivity instead of inclusivity. They complain about gender inequality but promote their own version of gender inequality.

It is always amusing when they fail to see the irony in their movement/cause, or whatever you want to call it.

Star Wars was butchered the day Disney acquired Lucasfilm and made a toxic feminist as the president.

Kylo Ren is supposed to be Rey’s equal in the force. Palpatine threw him out like chewing gum in 2 seconds of a battle. Rey however deflected force lightening back onto him. Even Darth Vader was killed due to 3-4 seconds of force lightning into his suit!

These sequels need to be done again and Disney need to declare this was not canon.

The audacity of Rey’s character, how she declares herself to be ‘Rey Skywalker’ at the end!

You are a Palpatine! Be proud of who you are. Completely confused character out of Aladdin or Snow White!

Overrated franchise. Extremely hard to get into it if you didn't watch it whilst growing up.

First of all, I agree, that the movie was disappointing. There were some really good ideas, however, due to the direction the series took after Rian Johnson, this last one was unfortunately bound by The Last Jedi and therefore limited in scope. It was an improvement though.

However, at least give an accurate summation where it is due. It was made quite clear that while Palpatine was host to all the Sith that came before him, which was what made him so powerful, Rey in that moment honed in to the force and all the Jedi that came before her. That scene quite clearly showed that Rey Palpatine, already of stronger pedigree than the Skywalker's, was equal to her Grandfather in every way, he with the power of the Sith and her with the power of the Jedi. The little bit of advantage she had was that she wasn't a warmed up corpse.

To clarify though, it doesn't mean you have to like the above.

I think had JJ Abrams been responsible for the whole trilogy, it would have been a notch better. He wasn't the right director in the first place though.

They should just give all writing duties to Dave Filoni and let him build the world.

How can you love this movie? As I said it’s well made but it is very illogical in its arc.

It’s a story set a long time ago in a galaxy far far away..

After the last Jedi, and as a long standing fan, I got what I wanted. 2.5 hours of pure sentimentality...
Absolutely hit the spot!

But the point is that it still makes no sense. Ren has to total of 5 minutes to turn to the light side screen time. This was supposed to be the highlight of the movie. Rey is elite bloodline, her parents have 20 seconds screen time!

Palpatine is the all seeing but he couldn’t see Rey was defensless on Jaku as a kid, so he never sent for her when she was still a kid! There is no way this movie is made in the right way logically, it looks very nice with its special effects

A felt the complete opposite

For me, It hit all the right spots.

Oh and the soundtrack was on a different planet.
John Williams absolutely surpassed himself, and that’s saying something.

My god this film was good...

I haven't watched any of the new Star Wars movies. After seeing the response of many fans and the toxicity, i'm glad i didn't invest my time into these new movies.

I watched the original trilogy and prequels to prepare for the new movies, but i barely got through the prequels. After i was done with those atrocous prequels, particularily episode 1 and 2, i had no desire to watch this franchise any further.

Having said that, A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back are a tremendous films.

Don’t waste your money. Just check up on the leaks on YouTube they were all true!

One thing I have learned when it comes to rating movies is never trust a review/opinion, watch the movie and make your own mind up. Thanks

I have lost count of the number of times I watched a movie and enjoyed it despite poor reviews. The opposite is also true, good ratings but terrible movies.

I support womens rights but this pro feminism is going too far, when captain marvel is the most powerful superhero in the marvel universe.
What happened in the latest star war movie would not suprise me.
Even in wwe, brock lesnar is being sidelined and becky lynch is main eventing.
Cool but not for me!

Just watched it.

Absolutely blown away by it.

I count three separate moments where the consistent entertainment value and emotion (which was unrelenting) tipped into genuinely jaw-dropping territory. Will come back to the thread in a week or two to discuss with spoilers - don’t want to accidentally scroll the surprises away for anyone else.

My favourite Star Wars film along with Revenge of the Sith and The Empire Strikes Back.

Lesnar always works a reduced schedule anyway and hasn't always been booked on cards headlined by women, the company for sure has pushed that female revolution narrative no doubt but it helped us move away from the diva era, the likes of Banks, Flair, Bayley, Becky, Asuka and Kairi Sand etc are terrific in-ring performers and speaking of Becky main eventing, not saying she has always delivered in that spot but in the last 12 months she has been the biggest draw as a face and the merch sales speak for the run to, like Ronda Rousey said, it's not about more oppourtunity etc its about how much money you bring in and Vince I can say for sure wouldn't be open to this otherwise knowing his strong reservations historically, regarding the Star Wars never really paid attention to any feminist vibe if it did exist lol

The other day the three female directors that made a somewhat decent film were crying foul when they weren't nominated for best director in the Golden Globes (although some of the actresses in their movies were) and were demanding there should be a male and female best director category like Best Actor/Actress etc. They should just start handing out participation trophies to everyone like how the culture there has now become.

Not sure why this feminism angle keeps being brought up. The film offers a clear, well-explained, acceptable and completely non-political plot reason as to how Rey is able to beat Palpatine.

You are absolutely spot on. Great film.

Re the female stuff, I suspect most of it comes from a deep sense of insecurity.

Do people really believe franchise will come to an end? They will find new ways to milk the cash cow!

It’s completely mediocre and would be nothing without its historical significance and popularity. Even the original trilogy is just decent

People don’t know how to let things go. Even I was a Star Wars fan as a kid, but emotionally invested in mediocrity isn’t a good thing

As for the people crying about feminism, give me a break. That is not the problem with these movies

Wow. Reading some truly remarkable reviews on this forum.

So we are just to believe Palpatine had a fleet of Star destroyers that went unknown for 30 years since his fall? And what about the prophecy of bringing balance to the force??

The sequel trilogy is a gloried fanfic mess. Disney set out to make a trilogy, and yet never bothered to have a plan for where they wanted the story to go. Lucas gave them his basic ideas for he always planned for the Episodes 7-9, yet they were rejected.

The episodes Disney made were never part of the Lucas saga

All the positive reviews so far have me worried. Can anyone explain how this movie did not undermine Anakin’s arc? The whole Skywalker series is based around his arc so why name the movie on him and then rise Palpatine’s granddaughter to adopt the name skywalker?

Also Rey’s super Jedi abilities that she picked up from a force nobody ‘Leia’. Who did she defeat with the force in an attempt to eventually train the most powerful Jedi of all time Rey

Here is a theory for you..

Rey was always a Skywalker, after all who was Anekin’s father?

This isn’t the average layman’s theory. It is only partially confirmed in legends that Anakin was conceived by Palpatine’s force manipulation. At the end of the day he is not Palpatine’s blood the way Rey is his biological granddaughter.

I feel so sorry for George Lucas and the Return of the Jedi masterpiece. This is Lucas’s fault, he should buy back his franchise with the pay out he was paid and remake the sequels with Warner Brothers or Universal studios. Disney is a complete joke!

Lucas cant buy it back and episodes 7-9 will never be remade BUT what Disney has done is quite terrible.

Having said that, it is important for people of a certain age to remember this is for children. I think back to the first ever movie and laugh at how childish and at times, stupid it was.

I read that the script was rewritten on the fly while filming for this movie. Is this true?

I don't feel sorry for Lucas, he bagged 4B USD, which is a bumper pay day considering the debacle that were episodes 1,2, and 3.

Lucas was lucky with Star Wars, because as a director he is below average.

Empire strikes back is considered by many to be best Star Wars movie and it's no coincidence Lucas was not responsible for the screenplay of ESB.

Lucas' lackluster skills were also responsible for the disaster that was Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull (the second phase of the movie).

Spielberg helped Lucas with A New Hope (initially released as ANH, but Spielberg advised lucas to rename the movie ANH episode 4). In his own words it was John Williams (introduced by Spielberg) who gave life to Star Wars with the musical score.

The reality is that the only reason why Star Wars is a success that it is today is because of the 70s/80s generation.

Yet Lucas still did a great job keeping the Adult fans interested with the Sith/Dark side angle. Darth Vader is not a children’s villain. The guy is a screen legend/beast of an antagonist. He isn’t Scar or Jaffar. Similarly the casting of a top quality actor like Ian McDirmid. This is important.

What Disney basically did was pick up on all of the easiest/friendliest characters from the originals such as Luke, Leai and Han Solo and try to run with them. Essentially these characters are not as interesting as Anakin, Obi Wan, Mace Windu, Count Dooku, Darth Maul, Queen Amidala etc.

The challenge for Disney is to produce Star Wars movie which appeal to the new generation. It will be tough given the sci-fi genre is saturated to the hilt.

I think most SW fans would disagree with your hype for the prequel trilogy which was poorly received (I thought it was ok).

The 70s/80s generation is what is keeping Star Wars alive. Lucas didn't have to do anything with Episode 1,2,3. If he released 123 episode as cartoons they'd be financially successful because of said generation.

The storyline in the prequels is quite politically literate and interesting when you strip out all of the toyetic kiddy rubbish and take away Jar Jar etc. Palpatine/Sidious is controlling everything from the first frame of The Phantom Menace onwards. The sub-plot with the corrupt Jedi Master who has the Clone Army created on the raining planet is also very clever - they have the anti-Jedi directive “Order 66” secretly programmed in from birth.

Is that what happened?

I saw Part 2 three times and I still don’t know who the Clone War was between.

Sifo Dyas wasn't corrupt, just unfortunate

So then. I finally watched the movie and I found the movie to be through entertaining and the best of the last 3 episodes, and first 3 episodes (1,2, and 3). Definitely in my top 3 Star Wars movies.

Technically the movie is superb, sound is awesome, and visuals are fantastic.

Story was fine for someone like me (not obsessed with Star Wars).

The negative for me would be the ending. I got one question - Horses? Also would've prefered a slightly longer send off.

7/10.

I liked it. Best StarvWars film since Jedi.

I liked the poke at authoritarian populism (“The fleet is made of.... people!”), Daisy Ridley’s performance, and the ending put a big grin on my face. And Chewbacca finally got his medal!
