Steve Smith not the same since the ban?

On a different note, I’ve noticed Steve Smith doesn’t look like the same player he was in this WC. Either he’s low on confidence or badly out of form, or he’s just regressed as a batsmen.

I remember a few years ago, it was almost impossible to get him out. He was a run machine. What do you guys think happened?

Warner, although he’s been scoring runs, doesn’t look like his old self either. He scored against us, but his knock was edgy and his SR wasn’t a typical Warner-esque strike rate.

Throughout this WC, he’s scored runs but he hasn’t looked like his typical-aggressive Warner. Has he changed his form of play a bit, or is he also out of form?

Just a few things I’ve noticed about these two.

Saving his best for the final.

On the other hand, he seems to be too fidgety at the crease. The balance and shot power are not in tandem.

He is alright. Apart from world cup 2015 matches where they played on familiar roads, he is not known as a great ODI player. We will know about whether the break affected him or not when he plays the Tests.

Wait until the tests LOI has never been his best format. Although he's usually done better than this in ODI's his best format is easily test. He was by quite some distance the best test player in the world before his ban and I'm sure he'll continue in that same suit once he returns to tests. May take him a few tests but he will certainly reclaim his throne as the best Tests batsman in the world.

I will be surprised if Smith doesn't score a century in semis or finals (if they get there).

He never was a great ODI player to begin with. Lets wait for the Ashes.

was just going thru the dismissal of Smith . Guptill took a blinder. But is it legitimate for the fielder to get any part of his hand touched on the ground while the play is still on( i mean the catch taking is still in the process)? Just curious?

Yes.It is ok for fingers to touch the ground. Ball should not touch the ground until ball is in full control of the fielder.

He has been twirling at the crease way too much, needs to stop that.

He had a bit of a rut in ODIs before getting banned, and he has continued in the same vein. However, he is a high class player and you cannot write him off.

He also needs to permanently bat at 3.

He was rubbish before he was caught he is rubbish after coming back, what am I missing here? Why is this surprising?

This thread is going to come back to haunt you. You can never write off Steve Smith. He is one of the elite players in world cricket.

No he is not finished.

An important innings today from Steve Smith. I’m still not convinced he’s back to his usual self yet, one innings is not enough for me to be convinced.
