What's new

Steven Smith slowly becoming a HTB/FTB?

What??

I don't think so. He is clearly by far the best batsmen in Australian team.

Just a few of them

215 at Lords - Rogers scored 173
138 at Christchurch - Burns scored 170
162 at Adelaide - Warner scored 145, Clarke scored 128

That is an Australian trend. Clarke, Ponting, Hussey all average around 40-45 away.

Actually you are correct. I was surprised at first but just had a check on stats and his knocks away from home has come on flat decks or dead rubber games where even other players have stood up and piled on big centuries.Just for examples,

100 in SA- Smith batted at 6 with Clarke being a standout scorer with his famous 148 odd vs Steyn, Philander, Morkel

200 at Lords- Again Rogers got through the initial tough period of the game and then Smith went on to hit a double century.Rogers also scored 170 odd.

138 in NZ- Joe Burns scored 180 in that inning batting at the top order.

100s at Oval in 13 &15 tour - Again in a dead rubber game on a flat deck he smashed centuries there.

117 in SL- Marsh knock was arguably better and the pitch was easier for batting. Not to forget a dead rubber game.

Aus is the hardest country to win away. They are fortunate their home from protects them. .

He is a brilliant, brilliant batsman. Too much nitpicking, well on his way to ATG status.

When people have to go out of their way to pinpoint your failures, you know that you are doing well.

The biggest HTB/FTB is Warner.

He is a better ODI batsman but in tests he is just numbers. Has a long way to go before he surpasses the likes of Chappell brothers, Border, Ponting, Waugh brothers, Clarke, Hayden, Langer, Slater, Boon, Hussey, etc.

Mentioned this many times on here - I think he's the best batsman in the world.

Does well wherever he goes.

No he's not a ftb or htb. Will score runs everywhere apart from England if the ball is moving. Other than that he should be fine.

Smith has test centuries everywhere he has played, other than the UAE where his highest score is 97.

Scored 10 centuries at home, 9 away - a near 50:50 split.

He's the only batsman from either side to score a century in the ongoing series vs India - and he's scored two of them.

Still a HTB?

He has a very unconventional stance/technique...but there is a genuis in it as he keeps pulling it off. He is easily the best batsman of his era and the numbers prove it.

I think Kane Williamson is 2nd followed by the likes of Root/Kohli and others. In fact, Kohli's performance in this series will go a long ways to determining his status. I expect he will score big at least once in the remaining 4 innings.
