SuperSport's response to Kohli & Co : "We do not have any control over Hawk-Eye technology"

Host broadcaster SuperSport meanwhile said it had no control over the Decision Review System (DRS) used in the series.

"SuperSport notes comments made by certain members of the Indian cricket team," it told AFP.

"Hawk-Eye is an independent service provider, approved by the ICC and their technology has been accepted for many years as an integral part of DRS.

"SuperSport does not have any control over the Hawk-Eye technology."

There has been no indication yet from match referee Andy Pycroft and the International Cricket Council whether any disciplinary action will be taken against Kohli, Rahul and Ashwin for their role in the incident.

Of course SuperSport weren't cheating, the technology is the same as it is in every match.

Now what will ICC's response be to Kohli and Co, specifically their terrible behaviour and tantrums after refusing to accept that the technology understands physics better than the naked eye.

Our Ind friends have told us for years that it can't be manipulated, so why did Kohli think it can?

SuperSport shouldn't have replied to justify and dignify Kohli and his cronies rhona dhona.

They should have let them stew over it for longer.

Think the confusion is that somehow SuperSport are in charge of Hawkeye. Think its clear now.

What's interesting to me is that Kohli thinks it can be manipulated by someone. If I say it, it's a worthless statement of a nondescript but this is the most powerful man in cricket.

I am more surprised at the lack of response from the government of South Africa over the language used by the Indian players and their comments "Its eleven players against a country". These arrogant Indian players need to pulled up and be reminded harshly that they cannot just say and do whatever they want.

Someone is very upset.

I do believe that these kind of behaviors should have some consequences as they are unacceptable in any scenario.

It was obviously over the top and Kohli and Rahul deserve a couple of test bans for this. All the sledging and stuffs you do against their players but it was clearly childish when they took it to the broadcasters.

It just shows the captain Kohli in bad light and appears to be childish. All the aggressive talks seems to be forceful rather than it coming natural in Kohli's case with no benefits to the fortune of Indian team.

Now from public rage on social media you have moved to SA govt.

Ok. The Indian team openly called out the bully SS and they did it live on SS broadcast. Guess what? There is no law against it.

btw where are you conspiracy theorist filled posts now?

The broadcasters have said the technology is ICC approved plus Super sports have no control on it.....

For years you lot said it cannot be manipulated but now saying it can.

Also how is SS a bully? Did they take the lunch money of 11 indians?

Incredible that those who were saying that the technology couldn't be messed around with, are now changing their tune and saying yes it can be tampered with.

1. Hawk eye is ICC approved and so is Virtual Eye.

2. The placement of the cameras, the feed, are all done by the broadcaster.

Your having a bet each way, a simple question, can the technology be manipulated or not? Because here we have the most person in World cricket saying not only it can, but it was.

Pant was just as bad.

This series loss is not on Hawkeye, our batters let us down.. Series was there on a royal platter for the taking, yes SA bowling was brilliant but Indian bats had the talent and experience to counter it.. Loss is on the Indian bats and that should settle it...

I am actually embarrassed for you.

On a number of grounds... this isn’t complaining but to put in context... if you want 100% accuracy, then ICC would say 'the cameras go where the Hawk-Eye and Virtual Eye tell you they must go'. A lot of times you can’t put them there. They won’t let you put them there, they lock someone’s view out there or there's a corporate box or there's a sponsor's box. We had a problem I think in 2019. In one of the grounds, the camera position was in the wrong place, we asked to move it and couldn’t move. That’s one of the first instances we had where we lost the tracking right at the start. We met with everybody and talked about it and the camera was moved to the correct place and it’s been fine ever since. It’s really important that cameras are in the right place.

Read this and then find out who said this.

Means Sachin was also out hahaha your essays are amazing.

And you keep clutching here.

First it was the broadcaster controls hawk eye mantra now its placement of cameras.

So your saying mohali 2011 match the placement wasnt an issue while suddenly placemrnt became an issue here.

Plus the ball was going over the wickets how the hell placement even becomes an issue here.

Also how did ss bully india? Were the lunch money of 11 indian taken from them?

If you had any creadibility you would had said the same thing about the mohali 2011, but the fact is you still think that mohali 2011 was not a decision that was manipulated while this decision was...

Learn to build creadibility plz for the sake of arguing here

These were my thoughts exactly when Ashwin was screaming into the stumps and calling out SuperSport.

At least VK had some runs to show for on this tour...

Ashwin having a rant as if he took tons of wickets is pretty pathetic

And its just ignorant behavior. Ashwin comes across as childish and immature picking a bone with a sports channel that doesn't even have anything to do with the decision.

If I were supersport I wouldn't have responded.

Such things don't need responses. It was quite clear Kohli, KL, Mayank and Ashwin just lost it. To me it was more than just frustration over drs, maybe loss of form, no runs/wickets and heat played a part0 etc. But they crossed a line, there is no justification for it.

Would be really surprised if all of them escape getting demerit points.

Again people missing the key point here. Lets keep the behavior of the players aside for a minute and just talk about the DRS. There is no way, I repeat no freaking way that ball was going over the stumps. I have seen enough cricket to understand that. Also, the Mayank Agarwal dismissal in 1st test where ball hit on thigh pad and umpire gave him not out but hawkeye showed that its hitting the stumps completely and not even umpires call. How is that possible? Mind you at that time SA was desperate for a wicket.

I am not saying it is supersports that has tampered with the DRS but the system was very faulty throughout the series. Ban the players for their behavior all they want but pls do an investigation of DRS as well bcoz no way Elgar was not out and Mayank was out. No one can convince me that is how science works..lol.

Before any indian decides to talk about the drs decision they should first agree that the 2011 decision was manipulated and only than talk about this decision..

Build credibility first to move to this topic

Its ridiculous how the acts of indian players are worshipped by indian fans.

If kohli and co decided to beat someone in the crowd they would even defend that.

These are the dangers of nationalism and how bjp used it in their politics.

Thank god pakistani people arnt blind nationals.

Both are very seperate incidents. Ajmal's ball was missing the leg stump with the angle and he was turning miles that day. Here Ashwin's ball bowled at 51mph hitting a 5'10 batsman below his knees shown to be bouncing over the stumps. That is impossible...lol. Mind you Ashwin is an off spinner who never gets bounce on any track unlike a top spinner like Lyon does.

The theatrics of it all what Kohli and co did definitely looks bad. But the crux of the matter is DRS was rubbish this series but unfortunately no one is willing to talk about it.

but pls do an investigation of DRS

Some might say that this should have been done around the end of March 2011.

So DRS is rubbish in 2022 but it was perfect in 2011? :inti

Faster one, going straight on. It wasn't the off-spinner, it wasn't the doosra.

Plumb.

not separate. Your biasness makes you look at it seperate. Ian Gould also agreed it was out.

If you are gonna say Ajmals was missing leg stump, than ok, Ashwin was hitting the bails, his ball bounced more.

And in all seriousness if you watch Ashwins delivery the ball was rising more at a quicker speed.

They did the right thing. You can't just publicly humiliate someone, accuse them and try to bring down their credibility like that. Spoilt brats of Indian team went too far this time and were rightly put in place by Supersports. :inti

We can agree to disagree and opinion would vary. But Ajmal was bowling at an angle and the ball was missing leg stump. DRS works on prediction and bcoz the ball was bowled at an angle, DRS predicted the trajectory would take it away from leg stump. Would it have missed the stumps in real world? Perhaps not but the 2011 decision was not as poor as what we just witnessed in Cape Town.

Here Ashwin's ball was shown bouncing over the stumps. How is that even possible? How can a ball bowled as slow as 51mph bounce over the stumps and not even clipping the bails? Thats just absurd and beats any logic.

here the hawk eye was also on prediction and if you watch the actual footage the ball bounced quicker.

You can get a slower ball to bounce high just by adding bottom spin

So did Umpire Marias Erasmus yesterday that it was out. But then again, I would not take any umpires word for it when I can clearly see what is happening infront of me with my own eyes. What happen to Mayank Agarwal's dismissal then? How can a ball that hit thigh pads against a fast bowler can hit the stumps? So a spinner bowl hitting below the knee is bouncing over the stumps but a fast bowlers delivery at thigh pad hitting the stumps completely? Hilarious..a total mockery :))

I too think Sachin was out. I mean as soon as Ajmal appealed I knew it was plumb. Thing is if technology is rubbish in 2022 then one can only imagine what it was like in 2011. This also means Pakistani fans were not wrong in blaming the DRS back then. :inti

Look even if say the DRS was tampered with, the loss is on the Indian batting regardless... The way that top order crawled and limped its way to these low totals suggests they were not ready to take the series in SA...

And a ball that was clearly going straight on, wasn't turning, was bowled faster, hit a short batter on the knee-roll, the batter hadn't taken a huge stride down the track. How is that even possible it was missing the stumps. In your words, that's just absurd and beats any logic.

Perhaps back in 2011 Hawkeye was perfect and in 2022 it isn't?

have you ever played cricket? Have you ever bowled offspin.

I as an offspiner can bowl a bottom spin ball that can bounce much higher and it doesnt have to be bowled at a faster speed......

Pace isn't the only factor affecting bounce, a spinner will give a ball more flight than a pacer resulting in a sharper initial angle of bounce at the point of rebound. Added to that Agarwal was caught on the crease, Elgar was well infront of his crease.

And a ball that was clearly going straight on, wasn't turning, was bowled faster, hit a short batter on the knee-roll, the batter hadn't taken a huge stride down the track. How is that even possible it was missing the stumps. In your words, that's just absurd and beats any logic.

Whether the ball was or wasn't turning in the Tendulkar case is irrelevant to Hawkeye given it doesn't have to predict turn, it just takes the point of pitching and point of impact. Tendulkar was also hit well outside his crease. The fact that people think a ball that pitched outside off and hit the batsman in front of middle well well ahead of his crease wasn't quite possibly going down leg has always baffled me.

Rajdeep think you scrolled past this post, would love to see a response to this.

Also, funny how you’re not taking the umpires word for it when comes to the DRS but then on another thread you talk about how the officials know what they’re doing in regards to the Kohli incident. You mentioned arm chair expert on that thread, I believe you’re acting like one right here.

LOL, when the guy who played one test (Yadav) almost has the same number of wicket (2 vs 3)...thtat says something about the earth shattering spinner who some Indians claim he is the second coming of a few top spinners 'combined'. Oh wait, that will be repeated again once he is back on the minefield mimicking pitches at home!

This tweet puts the DRS decision into context for most except the one's with blue shades on:

This tweet from Jimmy Neesham basically tears (into pieces) any defence Indians have been giving for Kohli and Co. acting worse than a 2 year old in diapers lol

"6 foot 4 spinner bowls a flighted delivery that hits a batsman on the knee roll with a big stride on one of the bounciest pitches in the world. Ball goes over the stumps."

1) Jimmy Neesham was not present in the ground. The stand in umpire Marias Erasmus heard saying 'Thats just not possible' when DRS overturned the decision. We take Ian Gould's statement for Mohali DRS as something written in stone but somehow trying to ignore Erasmus. Wonder why?

2)Bounce from a spinner dont depend on bowlers height. Looks like knowledge of some people on cricket need to start from A, B, C. Top spinners get more bounce bcoz the ball lands on top of seam. There has been regular criticism of Ashwin for his lack of bounce on pitches where Nathan Lyon extracts a lot. It is because the later is a top spinner where as Ashwin is a regular off spinner and carrom ball bowler.

3) Can you/Jimmy Neesham explain why a ball from a seamer hitting on Mayank's thigh pads shown hitting the stumps by DRS? What happen to the bounciest pitches then? How come that ball didnt bounce over the wickets?Lol

Dean Elgar was clearly out. It dosen't matter how much you want to twist it. I dont need to learn my cricket from Jimmy Neesham...thank you.

You were not present in the ground either.

And yes Neesham has explained why.

Move on. You lost the series after taking the lead, now you lost your captain.

Ha. Ha. He. He.

The human eye doesn't have perfect depth perception, umpires make mistakes all the time.

Loads of people say it clearly wasn't out but no one can every actually point out specifically about what the issue with it was. The point of pitching on hawkeye looked fine. The point of impact on hawkeye looked fine and after that it's just extending a straight line. The ball pitched outside off and hit Tendulkar infront of middle with 2m still to travel before hitting the stumps, with the angle that's more than enough distance for the ball to slide half the width of the wickets down leg.

Recalling Ajmal ball, all the time it took for ball tracking to show. It was quite clear.

Kohli and co threw the toys out the pram.

1- Umpires are wrong all the time, that is why DRS is there...either you accept this one as is or this one and Tendulkar one (from 2011 WC) was messed around with. You can't have it both ways!

2- "When a nobody on internet questions other people's cricketing knowledge, Jimmy Neesham is the savior" :-P

3- Mayank was set in his crease while Elgar was not and that makes a huge difference on any pitch let alone this one!

Despite all this whinning and all, Elgar barely scored any significant number of runs after that LBW cotroversy and you guys lost by a huge margin of 7 wickets (including one tailender's wicket)...so whatever you say means not much anyway

The ball pitched outside off and hit Tendulkar infront of middle with 2m still to travel before hitting the stumps, with the angle that's more than enough distance for the ball to slide half the width of the wickets down leg.

You can talk all you want about angles and whatever else. You can put whatever spin you want on it, but most people know that was absolutely plumb.

Out or not out, we shouldn't be talking about this. These things do happen in a game. Imagine days when there was no DRS and how many players were give out LBW when they weren't and vice versa.

But showing inappropriate behaviour on ground against umpire/technology/broadcaster is totally unacceptable in any form of the game. This is completely against the laws of the game.

We all know how desperate you are to win 1st ever series in SA but that doesn't mean you will stoop to this level.

Those who are supporting this behaviour seriously need a class on professionalism.

And this is exactly what I'm talking about. If people can't actually point out what specifically the issue was with the projection and just want to completely ignore the angles and additional proof provided then all these are are misguided delusions.

I and many others don't need to be mathematicians to know that Ajmal delivery to Tendulkar would have hit the stumps.

The outburst caused an uproar with several former cricketers expressing their displeasure at Kohli’s behaviour. The incident got talked about more because following this, the Indian team lost its footing as after the distraction, India leaked 40 runs in 8 overs, as compared to 60 in the first 20. Gavaskar feels that it’s one thing to mutter something that is recorded, but to go up to the mic and then saying stuff does not look good.

"When you are playing for your country… when you are trying your best to win, every single moment that you are out there, you can lose your composure and cool. If you say something while you are walking, it’s a different matter, but when you go towards a stump mic – you know it is going to pick up stuff – then it doesn’t look good so that was something that was avoidable,” Gavaskar said on Sports Today.

The jibes were directed at SuperSports, the official broadcaster of the India vs South Africa series, with R Ashwin, KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal expressing their frustration as well. Soon after, SuperSport issued a statement on the reaction of Indian players, who were lucky to not get sanctions or fines imposed on them. Gavaskar explained that had something like this happened in India, the players wouldn’t have accepted and hence should have refrained from conducting themselves in the manner that they did.

“Tempers are lost on a sporting arena. You see any sports – whether it is football, cricket or any other sport – tempers are lost. I don’t think they were trying to insinuate something But if you look at it, how would we Indians feel if an overseas team captain did this went to the stump mic and say something to the television channel covering the series. We wouldn’t accept it,” added Gavaskar.
