DORTMUND (Germany): Borussia Dortmund's team bus was damaged and a player was injured following three explosions near the vehicle while it was on its way to Tuesday's Champions League game at home to AS Monaco, police said on Tuesday.

The match, a quarter-final first leg, was called off and rescheduled for Wednesday.

"According to what is currently known, the windows of the bus were (entirely or partly) smashed and one person was injured," Dortmund police said in a said. The police said the incident happened in Hoechsten, located outside the city.

"It is not yet possible to say exactly what the explosion was or exactly where something exploded," said the statement.
Dortmund said defender and Spanish international Marc Bartra had been taken to hospital.
Police added: "Currently there is no evidence of a threat to the visitors at the stadium."

Borussia Dortmund said in a statement: "Shortly after the departure of the Borussia Dortmund team bus from the hotel to the stadium there was an incident.

"The bus has been damaged in two places. One person has been injured and is in the hospital. At this point we will inform as soon as we know more."
Dortmund later said in a tweet that the match would go ahead on Wednesday at 1845 local time.

So far we've had the following claim responsibility for this attack - an Islamist group, an anti fascist group, the far right and now this:

Police arrest man suspected of attack on Dortmund soccer team's bus, media report
German police have arrested a 28-year-old man suspected of being behind last week's attack on the Borussia Dortmund soccer team. Greed, not ties to international terror, is thought to have motivated the suspect.

Rather than ties international terrorism, greed is thought to have played a role in the attack. The suspect allegedly bought options to short sell 15,000 shares of Borussia Dortmund stock for 78,000 euros ($83,600), according to "Bild." He would have profited from the transaction if the price for shares of the team fell. The team's stock did fall from 5.738 euros to a low of 5.421 euros after the attack.

But there are thousands of companies listed on stock markets. Most industrial plants don't have/can't afford military grade security.

There was a fire at a UK wafer manufacturer a few years back and the stock tanked on the back of it. Few years before that the Buncefield accident caused fires at warehouses of ASOS which led to their stock price crashing.

Economic terrorism could be a big new trend

I think international teams should think twice about playing in germany and europe..so many terror attacks..I think germany should play its league football in a neutral venue, perhaps wembley..

Yes I think so too. Nothing is more important, not even sport, than the safety of people travelling to Germany.

German bombing suspect says he meant no harm

BERLIN — The suspect in last year’s bombing of a German soccer team’s bus testified Monday that he carried out the attack on the Borussia Dortmund team but didn’t intend to kill or hurt anyone.

The 28-year-old suspect, identified only as Sergej W. in line with German privacy rules, is charged with 28 counts of attempted murder, two counts of bodily harm, and setting off an explosion. His trial opened last month.

Dortmund defender Marc Bartra and a police officer were injured when three explosions hit the team’s bus as it left a hotel in the city of Dortmund for a Champions League game on April 11.

Prosecutors allege that W. took out a loan to place a bet that Borussia Dortmund’s shares would drop in value, then bombed the bus and tried to disguise the attack as Islamic terrorism. Dortmund is the only German soccer club whose shares are listed on the stock exchange.

The blasts shattered a window of the bus and hit Bartra with shrapnel, leaving the team without the Spanish defender for about a month after he had to undergo surgery on a broken bone in his wrist.

W. testified Monday that he was trying to fake an attack and designed the explosives in such a way ‘‘that no harm to people could be expected,’’ news agency dpa reported.

‘‘I didn’t want to hurt or seriously hurt anyone, and I certainly didn’t want to kill anyone,’’ said W., a German citizen who came to the country from Russia at 13.

‘‘I deeply regret my behavior,’’ he told the Dortmund state court. ‘‘I can’t explain it myself.’’

The team’s shares did slide slightly after the attack, but quickly recovered.

Alfons Becker, a lawyer representing Borussia Dortmund’s players, said the claim that the defendant only wanted to simulate an attack was ‘‘not plausible.’’

If he was a mussie he’d be on the first flight out of Germany

Not sure what u can possibly achieve from gunning down the Borussia Dortmund coach
These things are bullet proof
This isn’t the Togo coach bus

What an idiot

Clearly had a number of goals to make money for himself with financial terrorism and increase anti-Muslim sentiment as well. I hope the Prosecution will expose this gutter individual and the Court lock him up for a long time
