Sussex Cricket is delighted to announce the signing of Pakistan international Faheem Ashraf on a short-term deal for the remainder of the 2022 season.

Ashraf is a bowling all-rounder that has played 14 Tests for Pakistan, taking 24 wickets at an economy of 2.90. He has also featured on 31 ODI’s and 42 T20I’s for his country.

He has enjoyed success with the ball in both first-class, where he averages 26.93 and has five five-wicket hauls, and List A cricket, where he averages 24.91.

Not only is Ashraf an effective bowler at the highest level, but he has also demonstrated an ability to score runs quickly lower down the order.

In Test cricket he averages 31.80 with a high score of 91, and in first-class cricket averages 29.43 with a high score of 116.

Faheem will be available to play the remaining LV= Insurance County Championship games against Worcestershire, Durham and Glamorgan.

Speaking on his delight at joining Sussex, Ashraf said: “Thank you to everyone here at Sussex, I am really excited to be here.

“I am looking forward to playing four-day cricket here in England and I will give 100% for Sussex and hope they enjoy my performances.”

Good player discarded to early by pakistan considering how many chances asif ali and khushdil shah get and it still requires a tailender in naseem shah to miscue sixes to win against an inflated minnow in Afghanistan.

He doesn't have much to offer in white ball imo. His batting is of a glorified tailender in white ball. List A average 15. Wahab Riaz for eg has 16. His bowling too doesn't suit white ball.

In red ball though, he certainly has a role. That's where his batting shines and his style of bowling too.

He has the worst seam at the higher levels that I have ever seen. He bowls these cutters that don't cut. Please someone at Sussex tell him that he needs to sort it because all our captains and coaches have missed this

On debut. Out for 2 and 0 wickets so far.

Not the greatest of starts.

Faheem's international career seems to be over. I don't see him wearing the green top again for good reason. Good luck to him.

Oh dear.

It gets worse for Faheem.

Current figures 12-0-68-0

County cricket standard has hit rock bottom , look what kind of cricketer they are signing now. No good cricketer wants to play 4 day cricket, they're busy making money in T20s.

He might score some runs but he was never a first class level bowler . Misbah tried to make him an all rounder which he never was.

Not that great for Faheem - ended up on 1/120 in 18 overs

1 for 91 from 20 overs after scoring 33.

At this rate Sussex might be asking for their money back.

Faheem Ashraf ends up on 26 but Durham win by an innings and 140 runs

Bowling stats:

2 wickets for 258 runs - average of 129

Batting stats:

61 runs at an average of 20

Faheem 0/64 vs Glamorgan - taken to the cleaners...

And I actually thought that he would be ideal for County Cricket.

Terrible numbers for him.

On par with the worst overseas ever. The guy can't land the ball on the seam and gets no movement and no wickets in conditions, medium pacers thrive. Can someone point this simple fact out to him

He was a Misbah "discovery" and we wasted 6 years on him with very little return .
