What's new

Talent Spotter : Sameen Gul

Sameen is a very skilful guy I believe he can be a gun test bowler if we groom him well

Speeds I saw today for Sameen: 137, 137, 144, 141, 136, 143, 141, 134, 135, 139, 134, 136, 137, 135, 141.

Hopefully he is in the radar atleast for tests.

He might not be an emerging player next season as it would he his 3rd PSL, I wish PZ retains him or atleast he gets selected by some other team.

He's a good bowler but despite the lack of playing time he's a good option to try, maybe tests.

Looking really impressive today as well, got Fakhar with a good delivery and bowled a beauty to beat Haris.
He is getting really nice shape back into the right handers at good pace of around 140 kph.

What a bowl to Sohail Akhtar and then eventually got him with another decent delivery in the same over. I think he should get chances in A tour. Quality talent we have our hands on.

Hes basically a decent upgrade over Umar Gul , same pace (may be couple of Ks slower than peak Gul) same both way movement, bowls similar length as well and same height as well , infact his 2nd name is Gul too. The only think he has over Gul is his brain and intelligence and one thing he doesnt have atm is Gul deadly reversing yorkers.

Has got some FC experience as well and looks to be well prepared for international cricket if given a go. He can also swing the new ball and has enough pace of around 140 kph consistently to be effective in the middle and death overs as well.

Though definitely a lot of competition around.

Progress is key,

Consistently bowling at 140-142 kmh. Good areas as well!

MMHS I see potential for him in Tests criceket and ODi.HE can move the new ball.

Quite tall as well, probably around 6'2". At that height, from a high arm action, if he can maintain an average speed of 134Ks with effort ball reaching 140+, he can be outstanding Test new ball pacers with adequate skills. Out swing is the most difficult ball to negotiate as it brings several moods of dismissals; also a bowler with late out swing as "Stock ball" is even more deadly with odd one coming back or holing it's line. 3 of the greatest Out Swing bowlers were Hadlee, Alderman & Kapil - all of them had remarkable high % of LBW, because they could keep batsman honest with late out swing overs after overs and then bring one back dead on target and batsmen often Out LBW without offering.

No comparison, but Sameen can think of this line - he is never going to be a 150K fast bowler, hence must develop skills and he has height.

No mention for his spell yesterday on a flat track in Pakistan Cup?

Was getting the white ball to move a fair amount and ended with three wickets.

IMO one of those bowlers who gets better the longer the format.

Good to know. He's definitely a prospect for the future. Sadly though I don't know how he's going to get into the side because we only pick players based off of PSL...

mak36 he is moving new ball which is quite rare in pakistan these days.

Yes moving white ball is rare the world over, and he is moving it a lot.

Sameen is an excellent talent and lets hope he can find a place in the international side now that we are going to have a clear out of dead wood like Wahab and Junaid.

3/41 for KPK in Round 2 of QEA

7 of his 20 overs were maidens.

Dismissed a set Asad Shafiq.

These flat wickets are showing us who the quality bowlers are; control and skill works even on flat wickets.

A test debut beckons.

He is the 3rd pacer I'd like to see in Australia.

Nasim, Musa, and Hasnain are all a bit too young and raw to play a Test series in Australia, but I think Sameen Gul is a genuine contendor. He's been around a little longer, decent height, good pace, control, and movement. He must be considered, I don't see the likes of Abbas or Rahat doing so well downunder.

Rahat does well nowhere, but Sameen is a nippy bowler with decent pace and height, will be useful especially in Adelaide under lights.

Shaheen, Sameen, Ihsan Adil, Rahat and Abbas for Australia tour.

Please no more Hassan and Faheem. Abbas is also poor lately

Five quicks isn’t enough for Australia.

And Faheem Ashraf took 6-99 in South Africa in his last Test. How on earth do you drop him in identical conditions in Australia? He should be the fourth seamer in the attack, batting at 8 (below Shadab at 7).

Would you pick Shadab as the sole spinner, with Haris filling in a few overs too? I don't see the point of playing Yasir Shah to be honest.

Absolutely.

We already know that Yasir Shah is hopeless in Australia and that the Kookaburra will wipe out the top order, then be easy to score against from 60-4 after 20 overs.

So my numbers 6-11 are:

6. Mohammad Rizwan (wk)
7. Shadab Khan
8. Faheem Ashraf (unless Amad Butt suddenly breaks through)
9. Mohammad Amir (grovel for him to return)
10. Mohammad Abbas at Adelaide, Ehsan Adil at Brisbane.
11. Shaheen Shah Afridi

The team bats deep. We already saw in Australia 3 years ago that Mohammad Amir outscored Misbah-ul-Haq, and he is needed at Number 9 for exactly that reason.

Great prospect. Bowls with good pace, has a good seam position. Is nippy and swings it. He is also quite accurate. He has been excellent in FC cricket and deserves a call up for Australia. Sameen, Naseem, Shaheen and Yamin should form our fast bowling attack in Australia. It's young but it's the best we have by a mile. Ehsan Adil should also be taken.

Seems like a good outing by Sameen with 4 wickets. Too many no-balls though, has a work to do there.

I think he can be an ideal selection for the Australia Test series. He has an ideal height (for fast bowlers). His FC bowling average is great. He can swing and seam the ball well. This season he has been decent, took 3 wickets in one FC game while a 4-fer in his most recent FC game. I think this year pitches have been flat. He and Shaheen must lead our attack, supported by Faheem and Shadab.

You want to go to Australia with a bowling attack for tests that reads:
Faheem Ashraf
Sameen Gul
Shaheen Shah Afridi
Shadab Khan?

Better not even going to Australia then.

I still don't get why some people are still obsessed with Faheem, Yamin is clearly a superior batsman and bowler. Shadab will mainly get picked for batting.

Yamin can get into the team as a batsman alone which means we can play an extra pacer, meaning Naseem and Sameen can both play along with Shaheen. Sameen and Naseem have been the best fast bowlers of the tournament by far, along with Ehsan Adil.

I would go out with all out attack

Yamin at 7
Hassan
Abbas
Shaheen
Naseem shah/sameen gull

Excellent oppotunity to show the selectors his worth. Although I think he is more of a red ball bowler and already deserves test selection. He has excellent First class stats and has done brilliant in the 2 games he has played this season. Hopefully he will go to England next year with the test side.

He has 88 wickets so far in 21 First Class games.
Average 16.80 - Economy 3.01 - SR - 33.4

He's certainly doing something right.

give him a chance already ***???
he should have been picked. this is ridiculous

Those numbers have earned him a chance at least.

it's mind boggling. it's not one or 2 tests. he has played more than 10 now. As much as shaheen did. Sameen clearly is a very talented test bowler yet he isn't even look at as a backup. I don't understand this logic.

he is like a hazelwood clone. he won't be able to lead the attack like cummins but he would a phenomenal support bowler.

Definitely not a thinking bowler it seems, he keeps on feeding at the strength of the BD batsmen without realizing it, seems like he just tries to bowl one length at a time without much thinking, could be good in Tests but definitely doesn't look intelligent enough for shorter formats.
His list A career reflect it as well.

Yet management picked Musa Khan (avg of 37 and ER of 4) over him.

so? who cares about odi. test is real cricket and sameen is a very talented red ball player.

Only 3 FC games for Sameen this season, in which he took 7 wickets an average of 26. Meanwhile Junaid played 8 games and averaged 43...

Who the hell is the KPK coach?

The obvious problem is combining dead wickets with Kookaburra balls which don't seam, swing or even spin.

That's the reason Sameen has only played 3 games even though his record is far better than those currently in the team?

Ahmed Jamal and Khalid Usman both averaged in the 20s, both were dropped to accommodate the regulars

Not a surprise from Pakistan Corruption League. I hate this circus to my core.

Merit clearly goes out the window. At least PCB in QEA Trophy can monitor the selections closely.

PSL is a joke but it's good for milking money . Now that it's in Pakistan it should hopefully be very profitable and we can then invest that into improving our domestic infrastructure.

Don't know what to say really.

To be honest his format is more test or probably ODI going forward, I dont think he is most suited to T20s. Though still would have liked him in PSL but its not much of an issue for his career which definitely will have an opening in tests sometime soon.

i'm not mad he hasn't been selected for T20s, actually it's probably better for him. He has great potential in tests and can also be a decent ODI bowler, keep him away from T20s.

It is the fact that he only played 3 FC games this season which is making me mad. He should've played all 10 games.

So Peshawar used him for two years and then threw him out in the next WOW.

Questions need to be asked about Sameen Gul not being selected!

Sameen Gul has performed in domestic cricket and has a style of bowling suited to English conditions imo. Yet he didn't even make the squad. Why were Imran Khan and Sohail Khan selected over him?

I don't know much about this sameen Gul but ehsan Adil should surely have been selected. He performed better than these trundlers in domestic cricket. He is tall and can bat a bit.He would have been perfect choice in these conditions.Sohail Imran and Usman shinwari don't make any sense here

Don’t know much about Sameen Gul but Akif looks the real deal to me.

I wrote it few months back that for English tour, I’ll pick Sameen. Not sure why he is not there and what IK Sr. is doing (very similar type of Sameen, but almost daddy’s age).

I wanted him included as well. Him and Naseem could have been rotated.

Don't think Imran Khan and Sohail Khan bodies can last 40 plus over across 2 innings. And Misbah has selected both!

What are Imran Khan and Sohail Khan lol?

Imran khan can bowl alright. And sohail khan is very good bowler, his fitness is an issue.

Sameen gul i saw him in psl last year and he was just a medium pacer. Maybe he improved this year i dont know.

I could be wrong about him.

Misbah does back ehsan adil so it wont be long until he gets selected. If he doesnt get the nod than there must be a reason.

I would've taken both Ehsan Adil and Sameen Gul to Australia. Both are tall and while not express, are fairly accurate and would've done better than over the hill Imran Khan and shorty spraygun Musa Khan.

Adil and Gul performed this season on dead pitches with the Kookaburra so you can only imagine how they could've done with the Dukes in England.

Too much stock is being put into PSL performances. What have Shadab, Hasnain and Musa done in FC cricket to merit a Test squad place ?

Husnain is thier only for t20s shadab as all rounder but I agree with musa and imran khan the 2 u stated could have been taken with them

He surely is, but Sameen and Ehsan would've made a lot of sense in this series. Both have a lot of experience in First Class and very suited to English wickets.

Medium pacer

Wow, what a terrible reply. Which one of Sohail, Imran, Shinwari can bowl quicker than him? And Sameen is at least 8-10 years younger than Sohail/Imran. No one can justify those selections. There's no way you select Imran and Sohail over Sameen and Ehsan.
