he was far better batsman than wasim bari and his short career record is excellent but he has only played 6 tests which is beyond my understanding...

He was a much better batsman than Wasim Bari but a mediocre keeper, and this was an era where keepers weree judged purely on their keeping skills. In the pre-Gilchrist era, runs from keepers were a bonus.

Wasim Bari was one of the greatest keepers of all time. There was no way he was going to lose his place to Taslim Arif, who was quite old himself by the time the former retired.

He was better batsman and inferior keeper to both Bari and Saleem Yousuf. His batting average however is highly inflated by that 201 not out in Faisalabad (the match after which Lillee referred Faisalabad pitch as the graveyard of bowlers). Was exposed by (Holding-less) West Indian attack particularly by Sylvester Clarke in the home series.

He was much better Urdu commentator though as compared to is contemporaries.

There were many wicketkeeper in Pakistan during Bari's time who were better batsmen but no one was, not even close to him regarding their keeping skill. Captains and the bowlers had so much faith on Bari, no one wanted him to be replaced by a lesser keeper. I never heard of Bari dropping a catch or missing a stump or a run out. He used to cover first slip also easily and had taken some catches in front of almost 2nd slip. No wonder he had a long and uninterrupted test career under different captains and selectors.

so basically his keeping kept him out of the team .....batting was ok and bari was not better than tailender ...

I recall being in school and listening to radio commentary when he made that score = we all thought we had a new Bari...

He represented Pakistan in eight international matches. He scored 501 Test runs with a best of 210* against Australia – the second double scored by a wicketkeeper-batter in Tests. He also made 11 dismissals behind the stumps.
