I had big hopes for this Zahid Mahmood Guy

So disappointing today. We really have no spinner in Pakistan capable of guaranteeing 4 overs for less than 20 runs and giving us a wicket or two in between

At this rate we may have to draft Uncle Noman into the national side

He gets smashed too often in between the jaffas, you expect it with leggies but he gets spanked too often. If Pak want to contain they need a darter or a quality offie

Zahid bowls very flat and from time to time, whenever he tries to flight the ball, he gets spanked.

Usman doesn't bowl flat at all, and so when there's no spin, he gets tonked around quite easily.

Shadab is similar to Zahid, but he's younger and has more international experience.

Imad is a pure darter, will keep it economical but his bowling is quite one-dimensional and susceptible to the reverse sweep as Banton and the Zimbos showed.

Nawaz is a more classical left-arm spinner who loops the ball, but he isn't really a turner of the ball either.

So like you said, not many options.

If Mujeeb goes to play for Afghanistan, we might see Abrar Ahmed play for Peshawar, so that would be interesting.

No bowler in the history of cricket can meet your high standards in every match.

My squad isn't complete yet but this is what I have thus far:

1) Rizwan (wk)
2) Babar (c)
3) Hafeez
4) Fakhar Zaman
5) (Insert slogger)
6) (Insert slogger)
7) Faheem Ashraf
8) Shadab Khan
9) Hasan Ali
10) Shaheen Afridi
11) Usman Qadir

12) Shoaib Malik
13) Mohammad Hasnain
14) (Insert spinner)
15) (Insert slogger)

A quality opening partnership and a man in the form of his life at #3, followed by a succession of big hitters and sloggers. If things go South, they have enough batting depth to not bat an eye-lid, in the form of Faheem and Shadab.

Seeing where this tournament will take place and the other teams in the group, there are three spinners in the XI. Shaheen and Hassan are good pace bowlers to have.

Need to find a few sloggers and a quality backup spinner to complete the team.

You'll be waiting a loooong time to find a 'slogger'.

Asif Ali, Haider, Khushdil, chacha Ifti all TTF's and that's the entire slogger cupboard laid bare. And please don't even mention Azam Khan.

Malik gets in by default. Not a slogger or even a good cricketer but at least he brings something to the team unlike the useless names mentioned above.

Rizwan
Fakhar
Hafeez
Babar
Ali Haider (no not Haider ali)
Ask Afridi to come out of retirement
Faheem
Imad
Hasan
Shaheen
Qadir

Sharjeel
Rauf
Shobby
Shadab

The truth is, all of our elevens will continue changing right up until the world cup to take into account form. They will continue changing during the world cup too.

Let’s see who emerges by the end of the PSL across all the appropriate brackets. The tentative squad I’m seeing is this:

1. Babar Azam (c)
2. Mohammad Rizwan (wk)
3. Fakhar Zaman
4. Haider Ali
5. Mohammad Hafeez
6. Shadab Khan
7. Azam Khan
8. Imad Wasim
9. Faheem Ashraf
10. Mohammad Nawaz
11. Hassan Ali
12. Usman Qadir
13. Shaheen Afridi
14. Haris Rauf
15. Mohammad Hasnain

If there was a match tomorrow, I would play this:

1. Babar Azam (c)
2. Fakhar Zaman
3. Mohammad Rizwan (wk)
4. Mohammad Hafeez
5. Shadab Khan
6. Azam Khan
7. Imad Wasim
8. Faheem Ashraf
9. Mohammad Nawaz / Usman Qadir
10. Hassan Ali
11. Shaheen Afridi

Didn’t want to drop Haider, to tell the truth, but he seems to be in a mental block these days and doesn’t know what he’s doing. Really rate him in general, maybe he can come good.

One decent innings and Fakhar is back in everyones team :)) not knocking anyone, just goes to show how desperate we are.

Any delusions out there that we might win the WC need to end. We almost certainly won't and it'll be a complete freak if we do.

Haha. I know you’re not singling anyone out, but for the record, Fakhar has always been in my team. I see him as infinitely better than the likes of Sharjeel because Fakhar is a gun fielder. Baaki there are some growing question marks on Haider Ali who is regressing a little bit, and I don’t want to shot his confidence — once you remove Haider and Sharjeel from the equation, Fakhar is really the best in the country at the moment to be part of our top 3.

What if we shuffled the batting order? Hafeez is being wasted at 4, should come in at 3. Fakhar likes spin quite a bit, and seems to be struggling during the powerplay while Rizwan is excelling as opener, so what if we moved him down to 4? Haider also might be more comfortable at 5 than at 3.

1. Babar Azam (c)
2. M Rizwan (wk)
3. M Hafeez
4. Fakhar Zaman
5. Haider Ali
6. Shadab Khan
7. Faheem Ashraf
8. Imad Wasim
9. Hassan Ali
10. Usman Qadir
11. Shaheen Afridi

We could give this lineup a shot.

So pretty much my lineup but you're going in with seven bowling options for some reason. Drop Imad for Sharjeel or another big hitter and its a good lineup.

They should try different combinations we have quite a few tours left no harm in trying but i doubt Misbah has the brain's to change the line up.

You need 6 options in T20s. Hafeez doesn’t count as he barely bowls and might get reported for chucking. Also, impossible to drop Imad as we have no new ball bowlers in the country to partner Shaheen.

Imad and Shaheen bowl in the powerplay, Shadab, Qadir bowl in the middle overs, Hassan bowls in the latter middle overs, and Shaheen and Hassan bowl at the death. 1-2 overs from Faheem Ashraf sprinkled in between.

Shaheen 4
Hassan 4
Shadab 4
Qadir 4
Imad 3
Faheem 1

That would be my average breakdown. If there’s an extremely favorable matchup for Hafeez (like Chris Gayle) I would drop Faheem from the lineup and bring in a specialist batsman in advance of the game. Not that there’s really that many specialist bats better than Faheem... I might still play Faheem as specialist bat in this case.

Reserves:
Shoaib Malik
Sarfaraz

Rizwan (That opening slot is the best position for him)
Fakhar (Seems to have worked on his batting. An in-form Fakhar is a must for this team because he can win matches single handed)
Babar (Back to his natural position i.e. Number 3. Can control the pressure if Rizwan or Fakhar falls early. He should demote himself at number 4 if no wicket falls in power play. That way Hafeez will get the time on crease to show his magic)
Hafeez (The form he is now a days, he should go to the crease as soon as the ball gets a little bit old)
Haider (More suited to lower order currently. Can hit a few from there)
Shadab (Needs to get back in batting and bowling form)
Nawaz (His batting has improved. Can hit a few against fast bowlers which will be useful at that position. Can also control the run rate with bowling. Utility player. I would prefer him over Imad)
Faheem (Utility fast bowling all rounder)
Hasan (Needs to avoid injuries)
Usman Qadir (A necessary leg spinner required in Indian conditions)
Shaheen

6 proper bowling options. 5 proper batting options. Number 1 to 10 can bat and hit boundaries.

Sharjeel
Fakhar
Rizwan (wk)
Babar (c)
Hafeez
Faheem
Nawaz
Shadab

I think the top order is strong but the lower order is a little weak, Nawaz has potential as a finisher and Shadab can hit a few but his bowling seems to be off as off, can either win games for Pak at the death? Also, Faheem should only be bowled upfront and not at the death. It is still a decent squad overall in my view but a couple of notched below a quality team like England with so much depth, Mo can win us a game as can Butler, Stokes, Archer who is even handy with the bat etc Do Pak have another domestic T20 coming up? if so, that and PSL to perhaps can iron out a couple of their issues, the new fellas have been disappointing

I still feel we need to see the whole tournament plus we've enough T20's before the world cup but the idea is right we should keep in mind pool of players such as:

Openers:

1) Fakhar Zaman
2) Muhammad Rizwan (WK)
3) Opener?

Middle Order:

4) Babar Azam
5) Muhammad Hafeez
6) Haider Ali
7) Shoaib Malik
8) Danish Aziz (I hope KK gives him a chance)
9) Iftikhar Ahmed

Wicket Keepers:

10) Sarfaraz Ahmed
11) Rohail Nazir
12) Azam Khan (Fitness Issue)

All Rounders:

13) Faheem Ashraf
14) Shadab Khan
15) Imad Wasim
16) Aamer Yamin/Muhammad Nawaz

Bowlers:

17) Shaheed Shah Afridi
18) Hasan Ali
19) Haris Rauf
20) Arshad Iqbal
21) Usman Qadir
22) Zahid Mehmood

shoaib malik needs to be kept far away from the squad- the only spot he could ever compete for is no.4 and hafeez has that spot locked in... it would be a disaster to play him at 5/6... hes '40'(43~) and its time to move on

Mohammed Rizwan

Shoaib Malik
Sharjeel Khan
Usman Qadir/Mohammed Hussnain (i.e. whichever of the two doesn't play)
Mohammed Nawaz

So this team gives you 7 bowling options and 9 batting options. A very well balanced side.

I was tempted to include Malik instead of maybe Usman/Husnain but I think the value of an extra bowler outweighs ths value of a batsman when you bat to 9. If in a particular game a bowler like e.g. Shadab gets tonked all over the park, then that extra bowling option will come in very handy, much more than Shoaib batting at number 6.

a perfect team except for Nawaz, Imda comes in perfectly you just cant take him out of the T20 team
(if Amir is available) than Amir in pace of Hasan for me

I am not too sure of Shadab either but I cant think of another guy to take his place

Not sure about shunting Haider down into the middle order. He's pretty easy for bowlers to set up against with the field back and i'd be very nervous about his ability to guide a smallish chase over the line. He just seems to need more time on match awareness first as he gives his wicket away a ton.

If we want a creative solution to shore up the middle i think Fakhar is a better option due to his abilities against spin. Never hurts to find room for a gun fielder in your team too.

Surprising that no one has mentioned Sohaib Maqsood. He is a better option than zabardasti k power hitters ( asif ali, Iftkhar, Khushdil).
