A 15-year-old Brampton boy has been accused of manslaughter and robbery after a 73-year-old man died as a result of injuries he received during a robbery.

Peel Regional Police continue to hunt a second suspect in connection with the homicide, which, the force says, is the region’s 12th of the year.

Amarjit Bhatnagar, 73, and his 44-year-old son were walking through Aloma Park, in the area of Aloma Crescent and Avondale Boulevard in Brampton, just after 10 p.m. on June 12.

They were approached by two males who robbed them of some personal possessions and fled the area.

The elderly man sustained injuries as a result of the robbery, and was transported to a local hospital. He died in hospital Thursday (June 14).

The 15-year-old, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with manslaughter and robbery. He will appear in Brampton court Friday, June 15 for a bail hearing.

Investigators are appealing for witnesses, surveillance video or anyone who may have information to call police at 905-453-2121 ext. 3205 or Peel Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.

This is why we need the death penalty in Canada.

Not really, it's a waste of money and it's too easy for the murderer. It's better to keep him in solitary confinement for the rest of his life, that is even more mentally torturing.

Also the perpetrator is a minor so he wouldn't get the death penalty down where I live.

Nothing differentiates us as a society from them, then. Have you ever been in solitary confinement? I assure you it is many times worse than death.
