Just wondering, which international teams have posted that figure in a ODI?

I saw Pakistan were on their way today, but as I watched them play a little bit carefully in the final few overs I knew they would fall short. Probably the best chance they have had to hit that magic number, for Pakistan 300 itself is still seen as a big achievement, and against quality opposition it is.

Need to get rid of fazul tuk tuk selfish players. :imam

I think it shows that there is probably a difference between those sides who score 400 with ease and the rest. Pakistan got off to a perfect start with a huge opening stand, but if those players aren't big hitters, they will eventually end up strangling the innings. Personally I believe there is no place for anchor batsmen in limited overs any more, which is why I was asking which teams have actually scored 400. I think you will find they have a much more aggressive mindset.

400 has been scored by India/SA/OZ/SL/NZ/ENG from memory. Not sure about Windies. I think PAK can score 400 next year at the World Cup. You have two matches st Trent Bridge including one against WI. If you bat first there, there is a good chance of 400 happening.

Pakistan’s bowling attack will defend 300 runs 9 out of 10 times.

The role for anchor batsmen is still there, though it has changed. That particular batsman has to go at an 85+ SR for most of his innings and up it to 100+ after 70-odd balls. Meanwhile Imam was under 80 for most of his innings and ended with a 100+ runs that still weren't even run-a-ball. He's too slow to play the anchor role. For example, when England scored 444, Joe Root had 85 off 84 balls. Which was the anchor role for that particular innings. Root is not an aggressive player per say, but he still fits in the modern ODI setup. In Pakistan's team, Babar can play this role and he has been doing it well. They can play faster scorers around him in the XI.

399 or 400 isn't too much of a difference in my books. Asif Ali played a great knock at the innings end to get us to 399.

The only difference is other teams dont have Bhateeja e watan Imam ul haq tuk tuking his way to 100s and eventually getting out for 90 strike rate. Its criminal to not end up at over 100 strike rate after having scored a century.

That is why I asked specifically which teams had scored 400, I had a feeling it would be these teams as they all have switched to a much more aggressive mindset in the last decade when it comes to batting. There is a gap in class and mentality between them and the rest. It may not be a huge gap, but it is significant.

For those of you saying we don't need to score 400 when we can defend 300, I don't accept this. While our bowling has always bailed out the bowling through history, I think that is the lazy attitude which has led to substandard and selfish batting. Each discipline needs to be judged on it's own merit.

We can defend 330 ---- 9/10 , not 300, boundaries are smaller and pitches are batting friendly. This used to be the case 10 years ago - now times have changed

Will Pakistan get another chance to join the elite club of 400 runs in ODIs again?

I checked the score early on and saw Pakistan missed the chance to join the big boys in scoring 400. I gotta say it did feel like they might not get another chance anytime soon.

Wondering if I'm the only one thinking that?

If we had sharjeel and fakhar opening, we would have had a lot of chances.

I'm glad they didn't score 400 today against Zimbabwe because it would not be respected.

Hopefully it won't be like Misbah's odi hundred chasing. Haath mai aaya mooh ko na laga :23:

Play against Zimbabwe in another 5 matches and you'll get it. Boost the stats while you can.

I have said it in my prediction thread and I will say it again here that it WILL happen but under extraordinary circumstances.

We will pull of chasing a 400+ score against a top opposition.

It will be a day to remember! :)

Pakistan should have got 400 today. In this era, which team plays complete 50 overs, loses only 1 wicket and yet fails to reach 400??

In "this era" Pakistan is actually the 3rd team to have score 300+ yet not reach 400 after losing only 1 wicket during their 50 overs.

Fair enough. I recall the one between India and Sri Lanka when SL batted on a sluggish pitch first up.

Anyways, great performance from Pakistan but should have got 400+.

I think we will, it will probably be against Zimbabwe or Bangladesh though.

I think we might breach this record on Sunday if we bat first again, especially if FZ scores big again

And if Imam gets out early :yk

We should have got it yesterday but IDC about it tbh. As long as we keep on winning.

I know it might seem petty to some, but I really think it reflects Pakistani batting mindset. It was a great score, but my view is that the higher ranked teams in that position would have been merciless with only one wicket down. Credit where it is due, we are improving slowly in the last couple of years with regard to S/R, but the attitude still needs a bit of polish.

If today we bat first, expecting another 200 from FZ, may be he can smash 300 today, who knows.
As told by Mickey, there could be another one on 5th ODI.

I still feel, Sharjeel + FZ could be deadly combo.
Imam can play tests for now.

Sharjeel
FZ
Babar
Sarfaraz
Harris
Asif
Fahim
Shadab
Amir
Hassan
Junaid

Second that

That killer attitude might take some time and beatings good teams, and winning from LOST positions.
Next few series, especially in SA and Asia Cup (matches against India, it will be interesting to see how both teams will face each other in those games, and whether they can make a come back after losing a game) are very crucial for the development of this team into world beaters or not-so-bad team.

Aus and NZ can be taken care of in UAE, and might not help in the development of team, but can provide some stability within the team.

Next match if we bat first again :sarf2

Well, the opportunity was there, again Pakistan have kept plenty of wickets in hand right through the 50 overs, but this time it is Babar who has played a bit selfishly considering the situation when he came in.

Babar played like a typical number 3 batsman. The issue is, asif ali failed today and he is the one capable of propelling the total to 400. Babar scored gis second 50 in 17 balls.
