Speaking to media in his recent interview Fast Bowler Mohammad Asif made several statements that seem to reveal a lot things about the 2010 match Fixing Saga.

"If need be I can come and lecture youngsters against dangers of corruption."

"Its never the case that a bookie just shows up and gets the player to become corrupt; there are a good few years spent in making a relationship with the player."

"I don't know about Yousuf Anwar (bookie) as I had been away from cricket for 5 years".

"But if PCB knew about this guy, then they should have told the players to not get involved with him in any way."

"I wasn't involved for 2 years in my case, but the Bookie (Majeed) was with Butt for the past 2 years".

"There is a mafia of these bookies and they are spread all over the world."

"The bookie mafia is based in India which is common knowledge."

"But its spread to Pakistan as well so this is not confined to India any more."

"Shahid Afridi was already saying to us that he will retire from Test cricket as he was suited more for the shorter version of the game."

"You know Shahid Afridi is the type of player who will either send the ball out of park or leave the next ball himself."

"Amir has bowled well after his comeback with exception of the recent series in the UAE."

"Amir is not getting the support from the other end and he is unable to single-handedly win games for Pakistan."

"PCB would not have suspended these players without a good reason as if they are proven not guilty then they could have sued the PCB."

"Pakistan and India should play cricket as the world of cricket watches that with interest."

"There are political issues stopping that and I don't think their or our players have any problems playing against each other."

"The 2010 incident was the most tragic one in my life."

"The Shoaib Akhtar bat incident was more of a heat of the moment incident and we made up since then."

"The Karachi Test in which Irfan Pathan did a hatrick and we won that was the most memorable one for me."

Mohammad Asif doing his best to forget the past but the interviewer wouldn't let it happen!

They should keep reminding him of it until the day he lives (same goes for Mohammad Amir and Salman Butt).

A good interview. Shows M Asif has matured and learned from his past experiences. Best for fans to move on and judge him solely on his on the field performances.

Asif should never lecture us on honesty ,he is a proven fixer.

Woah how high is that high horse of yours?

Man did something wrong, paid dearly for 7 years, has been shamed, kept out of the media as much as possible and is now working towards hopefully a comeback. You dont suppose he would be answering journos questions with answers like "I was not wrong, I am innocent, everyone should fix," he gave logical answers

He had done some criminal things before fixing so I'm not sure I trust him as much as I do Amir now. That test though where we smashed India despite that Pathan hat trick was definitely memorable.

KARACHI - Pakistan’s fast bowler M Asif has blamed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for double-standards in dealing with players who were banned for spot-fixing in 2010.

Asif , along with Salman Butt and M Aamir, was banned for five years by the ICC after he was caught bowling a pre-panned no-ball during a sting operation conducted by a UK media house.

Off the three, only Aamir has been able to make a comeback to international cricket after serving his ban. The two others are still waiting for their opportunities.

“Double standards in the policy (towards the trio) are obvious, he (Mohammad Aamir) was quickly added to the team and we are still waiting for a chance. At least, call us to the camp and see if we are capable of doing something,” he said.

The fast bowler said that he is playing highest level cricket in Pakistan and performing well. “I deserve a chance for my performance,” he said.

Asif added that if he was given a chance, he’ll make everyone forget his past with his performance in the team.

“If people can pardon Mohammad Aamir, then why I or Salman can’t,” asked Asif . “If given a chance, I will try to make people pardon me with my performance. I am sure if I can deliver, people will also accept me,” he added.

The fast bowler, who will turn 35 on December 20, added that he still feels the same as he did in 2010 and finds himself fit enough to achieve the fitness level set by the PCB . Asif added that selectors have seen him bowling in the season and hoped that he’ll be selected in the squad too.

Replying to a question, the experienced bowler said that he’s aiming to be part of Pakistan’s Test squad for the tour of Ireland and England. “Conditions in Ireland and England will help me,” he stated
