The case for/against Younis Khan's Test match batting in 2016

Inzi played 1 Test at WACA, scored 0 & 1 (probably), got his fingers knocked for rest of that Series. PAK lost that match by ~500 runs with 72 all out. He came back in ODI to finish 2nd best batsman after Clarke. You can check what YK & MoYo did in other 2 Tests at MCG & SCG. Apart from that AUS tour, these 3 scored over 7K Test runs in just about 3.5 years at at least 60 average.

If the 3rd Test was scheduled at that Old WACA, I can tell you, Misbah would have retired before the 3rd Test & if I add the Aussie attack of that Series, he would have retired before this tour ........ to be in one piece.

So to summarize:
- nothing from inzi in tests in 2004
- moyo had a centiry at mcg in 2004 and came back to do nothing in 2009
- yk had a highest score of 87 in same 2004 match and was not part of 2009.

So whats your point again re Azhar?

Keep him at three and he'll be out of the team in two years.

I think we should bite the bullet and keep him at 3. He has this Kohli like tendency (and thats about the only similarity btw) to feel for balls well outside off-stump. But agree with [MENTION=726]Chief[/MENTION]Destroyer that we have given him the toughest five tests of his career to get to used to this spot. Should keep him there and assess after west indies series.

Now I understand - it's about Azhar, not Misbah.

In my initial post, if you notice carefully, my point was players in their 40s will always struggle to match their best years - hence YK, MoYo & Inzi comes.

Regarding Azhar, he is doing fine, partially because he is scoring lots of runs, which is always appreciable; but partially also because apart from him, there is hardly anyone scoring, which makes him look bigger; which wasn't the case for those 3 10 years back. Besides, I put a period, if you might haven't noticed just in case (hence reference of 2009 comes) : 2004-07, that's almost 4 years - if Azhar can maintain his consistency for couple more years, he'll definitely be considered as PAK great, if not cricket great - and that is something I wrote even before Birmingham Test, when he was really struggling.

Besides, blowing AUS trumpet doesn't make much sense if you are to pamper Azhar; cricket is played in other places as well. He has a WI tour, where he'll have to repeat his current from.

With a lesser of overseas record as compared to his own countrymen who themselves weren't ATG,I am not too sure why would one make claims of ATG status of a certain player.
