The Champions Trophy victory was NOT a fluke

Was the Pakistan CT2017 victory a fluke?

Pakistan Cricket is inconsistent and is still behind the major teams like Australia, England, NZ, South Africa and India when it comes to ODI and T-20 cricket.

Disagree.

By the end of 2017, Pakistan had the BEST T20 international records in terms of W/L ahead of all the teams you have mentioned.

Pakistan is one of the few teams that has won all ICC trophies. World Cup, ICC Championship, and World T20.

Pakistan was the Runner up in 2007, winner in 2009, and has one of the best records in T20 internationals.

Year 2040:

Pakistan is ranked low in all formats, mediocre batting, bowling and fielding, and loses most of its games against the top teams.

Pakistani fans in Year 2040:

But we won the Champions Trophy in 2017 by thumping India...

Somewhere in between Pakistan wins a tournament and again Mamoon says "It was a fluke obviously."

You know once you said same about 1992 and Pak won CT in 2017 and you went very quiet.

Saying similar things every other day makes your views a little boring so try and come up with something new.

To be honest, most of the posters have moved on from the CT win and so should you.

BTW, there was a 2009 between 1992 and 2017.

Problem is that there is an agenda behind such posts and its extremely simplistic to think that other people cannot see it.

Pakistan proved beyond all doubt that rankings do not mean anything, after all an 8th ranked team beat the 1st ranked team in the CT17 final in a convincing fashion.

Though it seems to me you bring up the CT17 final more than Pakistan fans and cannot seem to forget it.

Seriously, how much money did you lose on the CT17 final?

It’s ok. He deserves this NZ series after the CT victory which he can’t forget about.

The champions trophy is done and dusted ,its hustory now. The harsh reality for Mamoon and indians is that Pakistan have won the champions trophy by thrashing eng and humilating india. Pak won one sided games on both occasions. King kohli always have one off bad day when his country needs him . The reality is that he is living in the shadow of rohit and dhawan in odi tournaments.
I can imagine how badly mamoon would have cried after seeing india loss
Year 2040:
Everyone has moved on from from champions trophy but mamoon is still crying that pakistan won by a fluke and that the indian batters had a off day . The reality is that indian batters
got under scoreboard presssure. The only team that could have given a fight was australia and pity they could not nake it to semis.
Lets analyze indias road to final. Ind won against a rough pakistan in first game lost against sl , whom everyone makes fum off . They won against sa because sa choked. In sf their job was made easy by banladeshi team. The reality is if aus had qualified in sf india would have never made it to semis. Aus belted ind in 2015 wc on a very dry scg wicket where as usual ind batters had a off day and king kohli choked

This. India and Kohli always seems to have an off day in the final of most series games or a game outside India. And that is the reality. Case in point the hammering they are currently getting on the receiving end by Sa

It was not a fluke, it was in a different country in different conditions, and we earned it by beating some of the best teams in the world.

However, what new zealand is doing to us in their home, is also no fluke. They're very strong at home, and we're very very poor in new zealand.

First time I'm hearing that a series is being used to decide the result of the previous series...

Seems like you were seriously hurt by Pakistan winning. Maybe you would of been happier if Virat lifted the trophy.

Its only Mamoon other posters have not used this stupid argument. People know conditions, players form, momentum play huge role in a match's result.

Pakistan played some very ordinary cricket at the Champions Trophy before the great run and were one simple catch from crashing out of the tournament and heading for humiliation.

However credit where it's due, they were brilliant in the latter stages of the Champions Trophy, although the team now looks a pale shadow of the current team.

Yup credit where credit is due. This is sport and it's the combination of skill, hard labor and luck that excites us fans. You could make an excuse for anything especially in the case of the 1992 world cup considering how much Pak struggled early on , and how the rain saved us from England earlier. But that's cricket; what matters is that they played their heart out and won at the end. Even the notion of the concept of a "fluke" win here is an insult to not just Pakistani cricket fans and the team but also to other teams and their respective fans as well.

Its not a fluke...won 4 straight games. That being said, this NZ tour confirms what I've said/felt all along, the team isn't as good as its made out to be. Batting is not dynamic and bowling is completely dependent on Hasan and Shadab.

The irony is a lot of the people who have claimed 4 games is a large enough sample size probably said 9 games was too small a sample size when it came to Bangladesh in 2015.

Some heated debate here - but have people's views changed since then?

It was a fluke.

4 years on, that assessment has only strengthened, based on the performances of Pakistan and the development of the players who scripted the fluke.

I wouldn't call it as a fluke. That's a harsh tag for any team winning a tournament imo.

But it is possible for teams that aren't exactly great or fancied to defy all the odds and win tournaments like Greece in the 2004 Euros or Chelsea in the 2012 Champions League season. It doesn't always happen but it does happen from time to time in sport. I think this was one of those cases.

Not qualifying for the 2019 World Cup semi final was bad luck.

Dishonest, agenda driven posters that crawl out from under the rock when they think they can criticise Pakistan...

I posted it on another thread so will repeat myself. It was a very spirited performance by Pak in Champions trophy and definitely caught both Ind & Eng off guard.

But Pak unable to build from that win. Less than 2 years since that Champions trophy win, Pak was sitting on 11th straight ODI loss with 105 all out against West Indies. Due to this many people percieve that CT win was an one off and a fluke.

Pakistan (2017), New Zealand (2000) and South Africa (1998) have found themselves unable to use the momentum to win more series and tournaments since the CT win.

*I know Pakistan have won trophies before unlike those 2 teams.
