Good thread shaz619. It's a sad realization that pretty much everything you mentioned here is true.

I'd add:

Selfishness
Lack of ability
Poor technique
Zero preparation

Lack of money
Can't play at home
Discriminated by India

Pakistan cricket has paid a lot for no fault of theirs

They don't care about the fans. There is no merit in the system. No super stars to follow. I have never seen Pakistan cricket team being this bad. As a cricket fan I have to sadly admit that the passion is slowly dying for this team.

Lack of money
Can't play at home
Discriminated by India

Pakistan cricket has paid a lot for no fault of theirs

Conspiracy by umpires where they accuse the bowler of running into danger zone to unsettle him.

Making unfriendly pitches for Pakistan

Pakistan was always behind in terms of money or domestic structure or facilities for players.

Why Pakistan was a good team in the past was because they had players who had more passion and determination to be the best.

That is my take anyway having followed Pakistan cricket now for over 20 years.

New Zealand, England always had better structure and facilities than Pakistan. Yet, Pakistan was a stronger team than them, but they have adapted better to how cricket has changed in the last 15 years or so. The likes of Miandad, Anwar, Inzamam, Wasim and Waqar did not benefit from world class coaching or facilities to reach where they are.

As their batting in the current Test series has proven, Pakistan have not really progressed. So many chairmen and coaches have come and gone but the Test side is now probably the worst it has ever been.

Lack of money
Can't play at home
Discriminated by India

Pakistan cricket has paid a lot for no fault of theirs

Corruption in the country
Coin toss biased against Pakistan
Icc conspiring against Pakistan
Bat makers providing low quality bats to us

The list goes on. It’s never our own fault god forbid.

It is also surprising how young cricketers do so well in their first few series but then stop performing.
Also, there appears to be too much of players somehow making runs or taking wickets when they are on the verge of being dropped.

Surely, the above is to do with dedication and passion, not the PCB or the pitches or structure or facilities.

Just look at how Asad Shafiq scored a fifty in the last match when it was all but certain he would be dropped in the next game, or how Abbas now looks lacklustre having done so well in the first couple of his Test series.

Selfishness is a really good one, all these cowards are playing for their spot rather then the team. Am happy to replace every single one of them, enough is enough; give me 11 dogs that are willing to scratch and claw over these bums with padded records

Cult of seniority where the sainted seniors are immune from any responsibility or accountable for performance. Thereby delaying or blocking the path for new players or upcoming youngsters.

This might seem a very odd post, but Pakistan has actually done very well and before you really jump into me, read the full post.

1. Our batting has been spirited in patches. That's a massive plus. Yes, the results show that we've been beaten but these have been really difficult to bat pitches and the batsmen have done well. With the exception of Azhar Ali, everyone has had a few moments and in Babar, we've someone to build a future on. I really hope we stop carrying Azhar and Iman; both of them at one time can't be played and I hope we make the tough calls now. The bright spot: Emergence of Babar and that's something that is long-term and the benefits of this won't be observed immediately.

2. Team selection becomes much more clear now. We won't be requiring Yasir outside of UAE. Hindsight has shown that we need four seam-bowlers and Fahim fits in. He has done enough to ensure that he's played which provides some back-up bowling cover. He might not be a great bowler, he might even be a worse batsman than Abbas, but that's again something to build on. Him in first test could have been all the difference.

3. The captaincy change. As much as I love Sarfraz, he's not International Test Cricket captaincy material. When he burst on the screen, he was this courageous guy who was sweeping fast bowlers. Now, he can't even barely sweep a left-arm average at best spinner with confidence. The captaincy has weighed him down, and it's time to move on from him. Does he still deserve to be in the team? I'm unsure as the answer totally depends on how good of a batsman Rizwan is. There's no doubt in my head that Rizwan's the better keeper but that's something to be seen later.

4. Our fast bowling. We aren't there, we aren't even close to being a good fast bowling attack. Amir swings it in England, but that's about it. We do not have a 'hit-the-deck-hard' bowler in our ranks and until we get one, we aren't taking 20 wickets outside or inside of UAE. Dane Olivier has actually been immense this series, we may have gifted him a few wickets but the guy has bowled with a lot of heart. We need someone similar to him and maybe Shaahen can be developed into that.

5. Cricket is a game of fine margins. The first test was a prime example of that. Even when RSA were only chasing 150, they could have been 18/3 - (a drop catch a marginal catch) changed everything. We've been in the game, we haven't won two session on the trot and RSA have had enough quality to hold us back. We were in the first game until tea, then some good bowling blew us away and then a bit of luck ran out when we were bowling. Also the bad decision to place Yasir. These are small things that get ignored in the anger and pain of defeat but they matter. The second test was the same, marginal decision at a crucial juncture and that's all sometimes that it takes to lose the game. The third test is all-but-lost but again from 93-5, RSA scored 300 plus runs. A bit of luck, a few things going our way, Amla edging one instead of just playing and missing and things would have been different.

6. We have a core to play tests. Now the selectors and the coaches need to make a few tough calls, and learn from these things. Relieve Azhar for a long time, find a fast bowler, play Babar at four, get Haris fit, play Shan more regularly. Babar, Shan, and Shafiq have scored runs and also extremely attractive runs. If the commies weren't this patriotic (with the exception of Pieterson), they'd talk more about the quality of stroke play from the three. We keep losing, the NZL test series loss was inexcusable, but we have not been total rubbish.

We aren't a top three team in the world cricket but we aren't that far behind. All we need to do is to change the management style and get a captain who doesn't panic this much. Sarfraz's strength is also his weakness and the guy needs to be relieved from this burden for his own good.

This has been a good test series with two very flawed teams going against each other. We don't have the bowling or the batting to compete but some guys have showed that they can fight. Clutch to the straws, build for the future, it's not all doom and gloom.

If PCB and selection panel had their way, the most blessed batting talent of all (Hafeez) would have been opening v South Africa on this tour and Shan Masood who has looked the best Pakistani batsman on this tour, would not have been in the squad. Don't forget they recalled Hafeez into the test team, specifically knowing that an important tour to SA was coming up -- it's only Hafeez's kind heartedness to Pakistan fans that he retired, or else there would be at least 10 out of the Top 20 threads on PakPassion right now discussing the heroics of Hafeez in SA.

Hafeez with his strong back foot game would have been a better option than Azhar Ali in South Africa

Red Devil pretty much nailed it, they play for themselves and keep a place in the side thanks to the inept administration handling them.

They play amazingly when they are trying to play ffor their spot I doubt any country or stable board would tolerate such a player as Asad Shafiq. Azhar Ali got out on sameway four times in the series. Even a 5 year old can see he does'nt have technique or the guts to face bounce after playing 70 tests and touring SA twice inhis career.

PCB needs a parliamentary grilling session on their support for the selectors and the team management. PCB chairman Ehsan Mani is more responsible due to his hands off approach and care-free handling of the selectors, captain and coach doing there hanky panky without any oversight.

Pn top of this, PM Imran Khan has designated Mani as part of the sports task force which is as joke the way he has run the board and inducting adhoc yes-men from the past. Pakistan Govt. and PM needs to be engaged here as its their failure.

No bad words now... No test series coming so guys purely concentrate on ODIs.. If champions trophy performance repeated everything shall be forgotten and u will be heroes... What pCB should remember is that at least 6 batsman be be called for NCA as purely test options who shall be jahid Ali, saad 1,saad2,usman salahuddin, Abid Ali and shahzad and grind them to take at least 2 batting positions for next test series which by the way is very far away...
Currently focus must be on Odis and in my opinion Pakistan had done two blunders in squad for SA series...
1 inclusion of imam in squad whereas Umar akmal should have been, and not selecting Junaid khan
2 Not a slow left arm spinner in squad who can b wicket taking option for world cup
There should b very little chopping in squad now leading to World Cup..
Primarily a pool of at least 22 players shall be played prior to World Cup and best 16 among them should make to squad
Openers
1 Fakhar
2 shaan Masood
3 imam up haq
