This Pakistan team is new, inexperienced, whatever you wish to call it, raw, it needs to be cut before it can grow. There is an English tour coming up in May on greenish wickets that has Anderson licking his lips. When I look at this team, every facet needs improvement.
The Openers:
Aslam goes into a shell. However, he succeeded in England last time when others failed to get going. He should be told not to worry about his spot and rotate strike more.
Masood needs to be booted. This is the most disgusting case of nepotism I have ever seen in international sports rather than Nawaz Sharif batting against the WI. Replace him a youngster, not an old hack like Butt, but someone new, I would say Imam since he is already in the squad for the ODI's he can get experience traveling with this bunch.
Azhar is fine where he is. Despite people crying that he needs to open, he has proven to succeed at #3 in England before and he can do it again.
Haris is the future of the team at #4. He is the only one that can rotate strike effectively with the ability to hit boundaries. He can be used as a spin-option as we saw today.
This is the crucial spot. #5. This is where the innings are made and or broken. The captain is the most suitable option. He takes more singles, doubles, and adventurous strikes than anyone else. He won't have the burden of batting with the tail like he does currently.
Osman Salahuddin. He needs to be there at 6 for the second new ball. He is stoic in defense and solid in attack. Shafiq disappears for 3 innings only to bounce back in the 4th and linger on for the next series. You need a consistent and dynamic young performer at this spot.
Pace bowling all-rounder. The ace of cricket. Effective but rarer still. There are only two options for Pakistan at the moment. Yamin or Talat. I would prefer Yamin as he is more experienced and currently the better pacer of the two.
Amir. He has flattered to impress upon return in the whites. But like Starc, when the stakes are high, he comes to play. This is a do or die tour for him. The lush green grass and cloud will welcome and the lack of cricket between now and May will mean he has ample time to rest.
Yasir Shah. He is the heart of this team. As much as Sarfraz is the leader, Yasir is the beating heart that this team rests on.
Abbas. Call him a trundler or a medium pace Ferrari, he is tailor-made for this tour. You do not need pace to win in England. He can do just enough to make the batsmen play.
This is the trump-card I suppose. Shaheen Shah Afridi. He is 6 foot and 6 inches. 17 years too young maybe but with at least a 80mph pace and a natural inswing, he can cause trouble for any batsmen.
This is the team that needs to tour England. It gives plenty of spin options and a fantastic pace attack to boot. The top 6 has the ability to blunt the new ball, attack the old, and defend against the second new ball. If you have any suggestions, please comment down below.
