Over the last few years, India has been changing its main jersey sponsor quite alot, and interestingly, every sponsor they had, would end up facing financial troubles. Its as if the team India jersey is cursed, any company that sponsors team India will find itself in

Throughout the 2000s we saw Sahara written on team India's jersey all the time. However, the owner of Sahara. Subrata Roy was jailed as the company was involved in taking money from its investors and not paying them returns. Thus, turning out to be a big scam involvement.

Could it be that sponsoring team India leads to a curse for companies?

Interesting and surprising trend at the same time.

Sponsoring Indian team jersey means these companies were okay with huge amount of cash outflows for their marketing and maybe possible expansion/growth at quick pace, at times companies have the tendency to over expand/spend which leads to their downfall. Maybe these companies faced similar trends...

Soon you will hear that the company's paid massively over the top for the TV rights and are struggling.

Mt guess would be that, sponsoring team at these high rates is not feasible as companies are not even surviving. Could be a bubble that will burst eventually

Insolvency tribunal NCLT has issued notice to Think & Learn Pvt Ltd, which provides online educational services under the brand name of Byju's, over a petition filed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The BCCI has filed a petition claiming dues of Rs 158 crore as an operational creditor under section 9 of the Insolvency & Bankruptcy Code 2016.

Admitting BCCI's plea, a two-member Bengaluru-based bench of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) issued notice to Think & Learn on November 28, 2023.

The NCLT order further said, "Two weeks is granted to the Respondent (Byju's) to file a reply and one week thereafter is granted to the Applicant (BCCI) to file rejoinder, if any, after duly serving the copy on the other side."

The tribunal has directed to list the matter on December 22, 2023, for the next hearing in this matter.

the proceedings, BCCI's counsel informed NCLT that a general notice was issued to Byju's through an e-mail dated January 6, 2023, with a default amount of Rs 158 crore, excluding TDS.

Byju's first came on board back in 2019 when mobile manufacturer Oppo transferred the sponsorship rights to the online tutorial firm.

A US court ruled in favor of India, allowing the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to settle pending dues worth INR 158 crore (approximately $19 million) with BYJU’s.

The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) had approved the settlement, but GLAS Trust Company, a US-based lender, opposed it. The US court dismissed GLAS’s opposition, stating that any objections should be raised in an Indian court.

The BCCI will continue its settlement with BYJU’s, which had unpaid dues from a sponsorship contract. Dream11 has taken over the title sponsorship rights from BYJU’s until mid-2026.

According to reports - Toyota has shown interest in becoming India's jersey sponsor :kp

Dear @Major bhai,

It isn’t that the jersey is cursed. The real issue is that India’s startup scene is structurally flawed for being obsessed with chasing sky-high valuations before building truly innovative, fundamentally strong, scalable businesses.

Sponsorship of the Indian cricket team has become the fastest shortcut to instant fame. Overnight, a company’s logo gets plastered across every TV screen, billboard and newspaper. For founders and investors intoxicated by valuations, this cricket-fuelled visibility creates the illusion of legitimacy and growth even while balance sheets are bleeding.

Cricket is simply the most convenient rocket booster. But once the spotlight dims, the gravity of financial reality always pulls them back down.

That’s interesting, i want Pakistan to be our next sponsor.

New major kit sponsor will be Westpac going forward.
Please clarify the difference between Westpac the bank and Westpac the city. Some of our friends here will assume it's a new city which is now the new capital of Darwin.

Its worrying that if bcci makes sponsorships decisions like that , should these guys be given more charge in cricket than.

No one is "giving" charge. They are earning it.

No matter how you cope, BCCI will keep getting stronger and stronger.

BBL owners are already mulling over private investment.

Soon all the good T20 leagues around the world will come under IPL ownership and Pak players will be "soft-banned".

Pcb get funded by bcci indirectly but your performance are at uganda level or pak is still playing misbah tuk tuk cricket in t20 days bcci immediately cut their funding stop filling their____.

Yes they lost a test series to zimbabwr
Even if it's a series, not at home.

Pak have also lost a home series to Bangladesh.

So they have lost home test series vs every nation minus Afg/Ire lol. A feat they share with Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.

Sponsoring Indian Team After Dream 11 Exit Will Cost More After BCCI's Move

Sponsoring the Indian cricket team will cost interested parties more, according to a report. The BCCI is looking for a new Team India sponsor after Dream11's exit. Dream11 had replaced Byju's as India's lead sponsor in 2023, signing a three-year deal worth Rs 358 crore, which included a per-match fee of Rs 3 crore for home games and Rs 1 crore for away games. However, according to a report in Cricbuzz quoting industry sources, the new reserve price is "Rs 3.5 crore for bilateral matches and around Rs 1.5 crore for multilateral fixtures, particularly in the ICC and ACC competitions."

Earlier, the rate for bilateral games was Rs 3.17 crore and Rs 1.12 crore for multilateral matches. The report added that with the rise in the reserve price, the BCCI is targeting a minimum valuation increase of "over 10 percent for bilaterals and around three percent for multilateral tournaments."

The report added: "Based on the revised base price, the board could potentially earn more than INR 400 crore. The final figure could be much higher, of course."

On Tuesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) invited bids for acquiring the national team lead sponsor rights. The board announced the release of an Invitation for Expression of Interest (IEOI), which provides the detailed terms and conditions governing the submission and evaluation of bids. The last date to purchase IEOI documents is September 12, while the deadline for submission of bid documents is set for September 16.

The BCCI said that the IEOI will be made available upon receipt of payment of a non-refundable fee of Rs 5 lakh plus any applicable Goods and Services Tax.

"Bidders are to email the details of payment made for the purchase of the IEOI to sponsorship@bcci.tv, as per the procedure laid down in ANNEXURE A. It is clarified that the IEOI documents shall be shared only upon the confirmation of payment of the non-refundable IEOI fee.

"Any bidder wishing to submit a bid is required to purchase the IEOI. However, only those satisfying the eligibility requirements set out in the IEOI and subject to the other terms and conditions set out therein shall be eligible to bid. It is clarified that merely purchasing the IEOI does not entitle any person to bid," it said in a release.

The BCCI also said it reserves the right to cancel or amend the IEOI process at any stage in any manner without providing any reason.

"The bidder must note the following requirements and restrictions pertaining to eligibility with respect to the IEOI: A bid may only be submitted either by (i) the person/entity which has purchased a copy of this IEOI upon payment of the IEOI fee; or (ii) any person/entity which is in the same Group as such person/entity. The IEOI fee paid by the bidder (whether successful or unsuccessful) shall not be refunded or adjusted against any other payment obligation of the bidder under any circumstances."

Apollo Tyres bags Team India jersey sponsorship with jaw-dropping INR 579 crore deal, 62% higher than Dream11’s

Apollo Tyres was officially named the Indian cricket team's new jersey sponsor on Tuesday. The Indian team is currently without a sponsor in the ongoing men's Asia Cup in the UAE after the BCCI's deal with online gaming company Dream11 was cut short days after the enactment of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill.

The agreement, which will conclude in March 2028, spans two and a half years. According to the deal, the Apollo Tyres logo will be featured on the jerseys of the Indian men's and women's national teams across all formats.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said: "The arrival of Apollo Tyres as our new sponsor is a testament to the hard work and consistent performance of our teams. We are excited about this being Apollo's first major sponsorship in India cricket, which speaks volumes about the sport's unparalleled reach and influence. This is more than a commercial agreement; it's a partnership between two institutions that have earned the trust and respect of millions."

Two extra cameras would cover a lot more ground.

According to a report in news agency PTI, Apollo Tyres signed a deal valued at INR 579 crore, significantly higher than the INR 358 crore agreement with Dream 11 for the same duration. The deal covers 121 bilateral games and 21 ICC games.

Meanwhile, Cricbuzz reported that the Indian multinational tyre manufacturing company, who has its headquarters in Gurugram, outbid Canva and JK Cements to bag the contract. The latter to placed bids of INR 544 crore and INR 477 crore respectively.

On September 2, the BCCI had invited bids for the Indian team's jersey sponsorship rights after Dream11 pulled out due to the 'Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act 2025', which states that "no person shall offer any, aid, abet, induce, indulge, engage in offering online money gaming services nor shall involve in any advertisement which directly or indirectly promotes any person to play any online money game".

The Indian board barred companies dealing in real money gaming and cryptocurrency from the process due to a government ban on such entities. Athleisure and sportswear manufacturers, banking, financial companies, non-alcoholic cold beverages, fans, mixer grinders, safety locks and insurance companies were also not eligible.

Apollo Tyres' first international mileage will be in the two-match home Test series against the West Indies, which begins on October 2. The new sponsor's logo will also be on display during India A's three-match ODI series in Kanpur against Australia A.

A setback turned into an opportunity. Another example of the robust Cricketing ecosystem BCCI has built over the years.

As per OP, he should be shorting Apollos shares now.... That is it ain't haram for him ...
