At least 47 people died in the riots.[61] Rioters destroyed 176 banks, 34 gasoline stations and hundreds of cars and shops.[61] 28 December was the first day of a general strike called by many groups, ranging from political parties to various professional groups.

Banks were attacked and the buildings were burned in many cities of Sind. Most of the ATMs were destroyed and some looted.

Hundreds of private buses were burned in all parts of the country. There were also incidents of burning of trains in Sind. According to the Daily Jang:

Twenty-eight railway stations, 13 railway engines and seven trains were burned resulting over three billion rupees' loss. The whole rail system had collapsed since the night of December 27. Thousands of passengers were on the railway stations waiting for restoration. There were no sign of restoration for some days. Thousands of private cars were also damaged all over Pakistan by the angry mobs, mainly youth. The houses and offices of politicians, local government mayors and administration were the other victims of the mass reaction. They were either burned or damaged.

Over 100 people died in the incidents related to mass protest, either by police or in the crossfire of different groups.

So since we seem to be going back in time when needed, lets talk about what PPP supporters did.

My parents car was burnt by these protesters in Karachi for which my father got no compensation.

I believe the current leadership of PPP should be held to task for that as well.

Its all halal. They can attack the SC with full approval, and its halal. They can facilitate Martial law and its all halal, they can steal billions from Sindh and its halal. I am not sure why you think you have the right to even talk about this, laws are only for IK and the PTI.

I understand why MIG created this thread. This is to point out to blatant hypocrisy. No army act was enacted after the riots and destruction in 2007 that MIG pointed out.

There will be posters who would spin this hypocrisy. Being a hypocrite is a massive sin in our religion yet West fares a lot better than us so called Islamic people on hypocrisy. Shame.

isski koi baat nahi karey ga.. in fact the PDM supporters/pseudo army *******/self righteous patriots do not want to go back and talk about stuff going back 70 years or even since 1989. They want to vehemently support the monarchic ways of mafia like political parties who have run our country into the ground. Not a peep on that stuff but they love to to point out how PTI did "tor phor".

Did PPP supporters attack Army General Headquarters?

Its simply to illustrate the fact that whenever we talk about current injustices, our friends tell us about the past - my question is how far back do you want to go?

You should read up the Army Act. Its not just enacted on damage to army establishments. It is applied to building, vehicles, machinery apparatus or other property used or intended to be used by the State or any local authority. In fact there is a whole section on railway itself within the Act and railways suffered billions of losses as a result of then riots.

So yeah law was there its just been applied subjectively which equals hypocrisy.

What I am talking about is lawlessness - whether it's the army or not doesn't matter. It shouldn't matter.

So PPP supporters destroyed Karachi and the rest of the country in the name of anger?

chalo jee, pti fans are gonna go back to 2007 and cry about that to justify army act? Instead of admitting the leader made the mistake, this is what we are gonna see?

This is how cults operate, never question the leader, divert to other things.
..........

PPP supporters did the right thing that night, the established killed the leader, and the whole country should had burned. The army was scared enough that they couldnt do anything for one week and this was under an army govt.

Meanwhile it has not been a week and pti supporters are already in jail so.....

Benazir was corrupt as the rest, not sure why she is seen as a hero even though her murder was wrong but many accuse her own husband of this.

In short, PPP who have been involved in terrorism were allowed to continue as a party due to public sympathy over Benazir.

What army act when it did not exist...

It was made by PTI some where in 2020-2021. Army act did not form after the PTI buring, it was infact created during PTIs govt by the senators and mnas of PTI. And as the law is part of our law book, it is being applied.

There was no such law back in 2007, because PMLN and PPP were not idiots that passed stupid laws like these.

what injustice? didnt pti pass army act? how is it injustice when your very own party passed these laws, and now the laws are being applied according to whats written.

I make it a law that anyone who wears a blueshirt should be jailed by the millitary court, after two years I one day go out wearing a blueshirt breaking my own self made law. Offcourse the millitary (who i gave the power), will take action.

So who is at mistake, me (who made the law), or the millitary court (That interprets and implements the law)?

Oh no bro.

Lets concentrate on this.

Would you please tell us why you feel that the PPP leadership should not be punished for the destruction of Karachi?

Pakistan Army Act exists since 1952, read it up. Simply coming up with propagated views does not help anyone. There were amendments were made to the Act and yes the recent amendments were drafted under PMLN time and were approved in PTI time.

every country has an army act under which how the army is to govern. Amendments made by PMLN were related to the APS attack under their national action plan made to curb terrorism.

Than in came PTI with amendments where critisizing the army became a sin along with peca laws against journalist.

Even the amendment for COAS extention came from PTI for Bajwa.

if there is a case, anyone can file it in the relevant courts. However, army act cant be applied to it, cause those amendments of talking against the army came later. Plus, PPP didnt burn army buildings.

PPP and their supporters pre 2000 were the beacon of terrorist sympathises in Pakistan.

Just like Bhutto was humiliated and hanged for treason and made an example of, the assasination of his daughter made an example of the party, and exposed the party for what they really are - terrorists.

PS: PPP is nothing but a revenge party, which is why they have sucked Pakistan dry. It is a party built on hate and retribution, and as such, evil must be destroyed by any means necessary.

Sever the heads of evil!

No other party has caused so much divide and attacks on the Pakistani people as the PPP has done. Remember these clowns think they are superiour Pakistanis even though most of their supporters dont have 2p to their name.

Benazir was a crook too but now considered a marytr.

Bhutto - Hanged.
Benazir - Assassinated
Zardari - Tortured and in exile
Billo - ???

Allah's justice.

Since you are fine to justify the killings and brazen attacks on other Pakistanis by saying that they deserve it because of what happened in the past, let's also discuss this shall we.

So please tell us why you think the PPP management should not be punished by military courts for their terrorism in 2007 or is there a statute of limitations on these things?

Benazir - Assassinated
Zardari - Tortured and in exile

Allah's justice.

Godwilling there is more justice to come.

This party and their supporters have no shame. Benazir was threatened by Al-Q and Army elements. After her death, later Mushy claimed her husband was behind it. PPP fans mostly think Army was behind it. Yet these people have no shame and are supporting the murderers of their 'mother' because they hate IK.

PPP and their supporters are mercenaries. They made their bed with PMLN just to oust IK.

As you say, no shame, no morals, no discipline - just pure hate and retribution.

He has no answers. He has enjoyed these terrible attacks on our reps and workers. I never thought that any literate person would ever sink low. Its seems that some of these guys are so bitter at their family businesses being disturbed by IK.

If a law doesnt exist how can one be punished. Also PPP never target millitary places.

I never had issue with PTI supporters protesting or even burning. My issue with them is why they passed that law and why they dont complain about their own MNAs who passed it.

atleast ppp stood for its supporters, unlike IK who said these supporters are not from PTI. What a shame that their own leadership is rejecting them.

PPPs leadership fought for the release of their political prisoners.

He either disowns them or he basically implies that he has no control over them.

Weak leadership

I was in Karachi (Landhi) when she was assassinated, I think there had been 2 bomb explosions a couple of miles away. Couldn’t leave the house for days, bikes being burned and shops being broken into.

He either disowns them or he basically implies that he has no control over them.

Weak leadership

exactly.

PPP hijacked a whole plane to release all the political prisoners of Pakistan under Zia. That was the strength of PPP in its hay days. Zia had no choice and had to obey them

While PTI's own leadership denied to back its supporters and are already crying for being jail for a week.

Poor Shebaz Gill, ever since he got that treatment from the agencies, the guy has been soo well behaved. He ran away back to USA and even in USA he was afraid to give any statement against the military.

This is there auqaat.

Allah's justice.

Dont worry, Punjab police is still surrounding IK's house, may Allah give strength to our Police force. May Allah's justice be served in Lahore today

Wow - totally forgot that.

So PPP apart from a gang of anarchists are also involved in international terrorism.

Good reminder.

No please stay on topic.

Let's hear your views on the wanton destruction unleashed on Karachi by PPP and their leadership.

Please make sure to add your disgust at what they have done to the country in 2007.

I knew you forgot about the hijacking, and will use it.

But the brothers did the right thing.

Alot of people were illegally jailed by Zia and these people were not only jailed but they were given lashes daily and were about to killed. They were political prisoners. Some of my distant family members were in jail.

The brothers ended up successfully negotiating a release that would had not been possible under Zia's regime.

Now can PTI do the same if such a situation arrises?

Thats how much powerful PPP was and why Zia was desperate to eliminate the Bhutto influence from society that he delayed elections till Bhutto's name and ideology died out completely.

Bhutto - Hanged.
Benazir - Assassinated
Zardari - Tortured and in exile

Allah's justice.

That is a very short sighted way to look at history.

Saddam and Gaddafi were wrongly killed by their own people does that mean they got Allah's justice?

Blair and GWB are moving around and will likely die of old age, but they were responsible for the biggest mass murders in this century.

The Palestinians also hijacked planes back then and the Israelis call them terrorists. The 70s and 80s were messy times and things were not as black and white as we would like to think they are .

Hijackings were a way for the underdog or oppressed to make their point or demand in a very daring and shock/awe method

Were they wrong? Of course

But so were the actions of Israel and Zia's witchhunt of the Bhuttos at America's behest

Ok so then there is no point talking about the past? Because everything becomes history at some point?

It is called a summary of PPP leaders.

I have idea why you mentioned Saddam and Gaddafi - both of whom were arrested by Western forces and then handed over to local authorities. Were the aforementioned PPP leaders arrested by foreign forces?

As for Blair/GWB - yup, war criminals, but not a shred on the consistent pattern of the fate of PPP leaders.

1 is a shock, 2 is lucky, 3 or more is destiny (allah's lanaat).

It was 2007. It was most likely documented on TV through news reporters and journalists writing about it in the newspaper.

Compare it to 2023 where everything is documented by individuals on their mobile phones, live feed on Twitter and other social media outlets. Random individuals participating in it sharing their experience of vandalism, and taunting the authorities

The 2023 one was more insulting to the establishment and government because of the vast coverage it received this way. Of course they would feel severely humiliated, they were made to look like powerless cowards by goons and hooligans who thought they were untouchable.

Just giving you my perspective. Pakistan as a nation had no choice but to respond to the Indian violation of Pak airspace on Feb 2019. The embarrassment they suffered at the hands of India who were looking to make an example of the country and its army lead them to no choice but to do something extraordinary

It was documented and felt by the people - like I said my parents car was burnt and they never got a dime from PPP for that.

Both occurrences need to be condemned equally. There is no "better" version of mob violence.

I’m not denying that it was documented in 2007, I’m just comparing it with the 2023 incident and how vastly this incident was documented throughout the world. It is a huge, huge difference.

You could have brushed up many of the nonsense activity that took place before every person on the planet has a smart phone and is connected via social media. That doesn’t happen in this day and age. Of course the establishment feels humiliated, now they are going to do whatever it takes to restore their image and honour

It happens because Pakistanis are an emotional Qom.

If God Forbid something happened to Bilawal, do you think people will come out in Sindh with candles in their hands and stand in silent vigils?

Fact is that Imran's arrest, just like Benazir's death were shocks to the system.

Why would anyone want to hurt Bilawal though? He’s not an evil human being

Neither was Benazir but she was killed.

Same was tried on Imran Khan.

But that is not the point of this thread.

This thread was made to put into perspective a lot of 'soul searching' against PTI for their reaction to IK's arrest.

Hopefully the mirror has now been shown to some.

You can’t see good in anyone that doesn’t agree with you. I don’t blame your way of thinking

Here is news for you, and I know it will come as a shock, murderers are bad people.
If You can see good in people that kill innocent people, then Houston we have a problem.

Murder by whom? The army? AZ? Maulvis? All sit with her beghairat son. And if it was Murder? Why didn't the PPP investigate and nail the culprits in their tenure?

The way Jam Karim and co were received and given protocol by PPP, nobody should have any doubt that PPP is willing to kill, loot and plunder. PPP treats ordinary people like insects. This sick party is a curse on humanity!

as usual, sprouting garbage.

Bilawal isnt corrupt nor has he done any evil. And no, Bulleh Shah died many centuries ago

So he killed got those journalists for fun. Your defense of murderers is well known by everyone, so take a look in mirror and ask why you support criminals that support murderers. Did the life of the journalist not mean anything.

Don't state basic facts like that. The murderers were treated as heroes and some loser wants to rewrite history that is only a year old. These beghairati don't have any shame, they celebrate the kill of innocent people

So destroying banks in 2007 was for fun?

Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal on Sunday said that May 9 riots in Pakistan were "9/11 type" attacks on the country's national interests.

Following Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan's arrest on May 9 in connection with a corruption case, the country saw violent protests targeting sensitive state and military installations.

In an exclusive interview with APP, Iqbal said it was regrettable that a "political party’s workers on May 9 stormed and destroyed many symbols of Pakistan’s pride that include Jinnah House, Yadgare Shuhada, fighter jets of the famous 1965 war and Chagai mountain model".

He maintained that such a reaction to Imran's arrest over corruption charges was "unprecedentedly irrational, unacceptable and not less than the 9/11 attacks carried out in the US in 2001".

Trying to find any reference to people being compensated for their property destroyed in 2007

"At least 47 people died in the riots.[61] Rioters destroyed 176 banks, 34 gasoline stations and hundreds of cars and shops.[61] 28 December was the first day of a general strike called by many groups, ranging from political parties to various professional groups."

KARACHI: Sindh government has decided to compensate the owners of the vehicles torched in the May 9 riots in Karachi, ARY News reported on Wednesday.

On May 9, motorcycles and a car had been torched by rioters on Karachi’s Sharea Faisal during protests against the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan.

Sindh government’s spokesperson Murtaza Wahab announced that new motorcycles will be given to the affected owners. He added that PTI miscreants damaged public and private properties on May 9.
