NAB launches inquiry against Farah Khan

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has initiated an inquiry into assets beyond known sources of income and money laundering allegations against former first lady Bushra Bibi's friend, Farhat Shahzadi — better known as Farah Khan.

"The NAB has authorised an inquiry against Farhat Shahzadi alias Farah Khan and others on the allegations of accumulation of illegal assets beyond known sources of income, money laundering and maintaining various accounts in the name of different businesses," a notification issued by the anti-graft watchdog stated.

NAB Lahore director-general has been directed to conduct an inquiry into this matter as per the law.

According to NAB, a huge turnover amounting to Rs847 million has been found in Farah’s account during the last three years, which does not commensurate with her stated account profile.

The aforementioned credits were received in her personal account within a short time period and withdrawn immediately after credit.

The notification stated that multiple media reports suggested Farah Khan was found to be allegedly involved in gathering assets beyond legal means.

Meanwhile, a review of the income tax returns of Farah Khan observed that her assets grew exponentially from 2018 and onwards due to unknown reasons.

Moreover, Farah frequently travelled abroad and the trips include nine visits to the United States and six visits to the United Arab Emirates.

Case against Farah Khan totally wrong: Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: Finally breaking his silence over the corruption allegations against his wife Bushra Bibi's close aide Farhat Shehzadi aka Farah Khan, former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan deemed the case against Farah "totally wrong."

"She [Farah] has been in the real estate business for 20 years," Imran said Sunday while addressing a press conference in the federal capital.

He said that his former wife Jemima Goldsmith had been booked in a case related to the smuggling of antique tiles as well, adding that his wife Bushra Bibi doesn't have any bank account.

The PTI chairman said that initiating these cases is intended at attacking him, reiterating that Farah is innocent.

"It was implied Farah's riches exponentially grew during three years [...] real estate business has generated a lot of money during the last three years," he said.

"They say that the National Accountability Bureau is independent. First of all, I ask NAB if a case can even be built against Farah Khan or not?" Imran questioned.

He said that the term "wealth beyond known sources of income" applies to public office holders only.

Imran went on to say that the thing that they based the case on is that Farah's husband was an official of a union council from 1997 to 1999.

"She [Farah] wasn't even married to him at that time. How did they book her in the case," he objected.'PML-N and PPP will give themselves NRO-2'

The PTI chairman took a jibe at the ruling party, saying that former president Pervez Musharraf gave them the first NRO. He said that people should know how much loss is caused to the country.

He said that another major oppression is going to take place as the PML-N and PPP "will end all the cases against themselves."

"They [PML-N and PPP] will give themselves NRO-2 to end the corruption cases against them. Both of them ended the cases against them through settlement," he said.

Imran said that he wants to put the cases against the PML-N and PPP leaders before the nation on the white paper.

He said that all the cases these politicians are facing are from 2008 to 2018, while in PTI's regime, there was only one Federal Investigation Agency graft case worth Rs16 billion.

Criticising Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, Imran Khan said: "Abid Sher Ali's father says Rana Sanaullah committed 18 murders".
'Nothing more embarrassing than Rashid Shafiq's arrest'

The PTI chairman condemned the arrest of Sheikh Rashid's nephew Sheikh Rashid Shafiq and said that "there is nothing more embarrassing than what they did to Shafiq."

He claimed that the party members were celebrating the prayer ceremony and they got to know what happened in Masjid-e-Nabawi PBUH.

"Shame on them who are accusing us of ordering hooliganism in Madinah," he said.

He further stated that the government doesn't have an idea about "how angry Pakistanis are with them."

"The same will happen to them when they will go to people as half of the nation is supporting PTI after seeing their faces."
We don't trust CEC

Imran said that PTI doesn't trust Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja, adding that the CEC would influence the courts.

Imran said that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) must take action if the CEC does not hold the elections within 90 days in line with the Constitution.

Moreover, he said that PTI will record peaceful protests in Islamabad and families would attend them too.

LAHORE: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Sunday said that an assets inquiry can be initiated against the family members of a former public office holder, ARY News reported.

The clarification came after former prime minister Imran Khan alleged that Farah Khan is not a public office holder and is being subjected to victimization.

NAB spokesperson said that the husband of Farah Khan remained district council chairman from 1997 to 199 and the graft-buster body reserves the right to investigate the former public office holders or their family members.

According to the NAB, a huge turnover amounting to Rs847 million had been found in Farah Khan’s account during the last three years, which did not commensurate with her stated account profile. These credits were received in her personal account and withdrawn immediately after credit within a short time period.

NAB is an independent institution and the investigation launched against Farah Khan is as per the rule of the law and constituion, the spokesperson said.

Earlier, former prime minister Imran Khan while commenting on the corruption allegations against Farah Khan PTI Chairman said, “My spouse is a housewife, they found nothing against her, so they booked her friend in case”.

Imran Khan said that ” the real estate business has generated a lot of money during the last three years. Farah Khan has been in the real estate business for last 20 years.”

The PTI chairman said that initiating these cases is intended at attacking his person, reiterating that Farah is innocent.

” I ask the NAB if a case can even be built against Farah Khan or not?” Imran Khan questioned.

Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb reacted strongly on Sunday to PTI chief Imran Khan’s remarks made earlier in the day, particularly his defence of Farah Khan, and alleged that sloganeering in the courtyard of Masjid-i-Nabwi earlier this week was made at the behest of the former prime minister.

Addressing a press conference at the Press Information Department (PID), mainly in response to a lengthy talk made by PTI leaders a few hours before, Ms Aurangzeb said Imran was the only prime minister who sold off gifts from foreign countries in their own countries.

She said Imran Khan lowered the gift retention percentage from Toshakhana to 20 per cent to get those gifts and then raised it to 50pc.

He then bought those gifts from the money taken from Farah Khan, who was making billions on his behest by taking bribes for the appointment of every government official in Punjab, the minister said, alleging that Imran Khan also made money through sugar and flour scandals.

Alleges former PM planned, ordered sloganeering at Masjid-i-Nabwi

Ms Aurangzeb said a prime minister could keep cars in his use only according to the law. But Mr Khan took a BMW X5 on his way out, which was basically a car from the Prime Minister Office’s pool for foreign delegations.

Imran Khan insisted that he wanted to keep this car, although he had earlier criticised previous governments over expensive cars in Prime Minister House, she said.

She added that the price of that car when it was purchased in 2016 was Rs30 million, which was now Rs60m, and if the bomb-proofing and bullet-proofing were factored in, the vehicle now cost around Rs150m.

The minister also told the media that instead of declaring and submitting a handgun gifted by another country’s diplomat into the Toshakhana, Mr Khan smuggled that gun into Pakistan and kept it with himself.

“You are a thief, a cheat, a liar and a swindler but trying to pose yourself as a pious person only to hide the wrongdoings and corruption,” the information minister said, referring to Mr Khan.

She said Imran Khan put his political opponents in jails and detained them in death cells, but he could not prove anything wrong against them in a court of law.

The minister said Imran Khan was busy using the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and other government authorities to victimise political opponents instead of paying attention to mitigating the sufferings of citizens faced with high inflation and unemployment.

‘Front-person Farah’

She said it was ironic that Imran Khan was defending Farah Khan, whose assets allegedly surged to billions of rupees during Mr Khan’s tenure because Ms Khan was “his front person and his benami accountholder”.

The information minister said Imran Khan was upset over Farah Khan’s investigation because the tales of corruption and extortion of Ms Khan and Shahzad Akbar, Imran Khan’s aide on the anti-graft drive, were rooted in Bani Gala.

She said Imran tried everything he could to harass and persecute the opposition, including “propaganda press conferences” at PID by Mr Akbar, his special meetings with Daily Mail journalist David Rose and “false stories” carried out by the publication and imprisonment of PML-N leaders over trumped-up charges.

‘Imran behind Madina incident’

Referring to the recent incident at Masjid-i-Nabwi in Madina, Ms Aurangzeb said the sloganeering inside the holy site was made at the behest of Imran Khan.

“The PTI leadership was involved in inciting violence in society. I was the eyewitness that people sent by Imran Khan were inciting others to raise slogans and hurl abuses at her in the courtyard of Masjid-i-Nabwi,” she said. “While the ringleaders have fled to the UK same night, the poor followers have been left to face the law of the land in Saudi Arabia.”

She also highlighted the successes in the tour of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

NAB ‘empowered to probe Farah’

The National Accountability Bureau, while referring to some “speculative media reports challenging NAB’s domain to initiate an inquiry against Ms Farah Khan”, said in a statement on Sunday that the law empowered the bureau to initiate an investigation against former public office holders or their family members for accumulating assets beyond known sources of income.

The spouse of Farah Khan, Ahsan Jameel Gujjar, remained the chairman of the Gujranwala district council between 1997 and 1999, the statement said.

The National Accountability Ordinance 1999 and Anti-Money Laundering Act 2010 sanctioned NAB “to hold cognisable the conduct of Farah Khan being the spouse of former public office holder, under the law”, it said, adding that NAB’s Lahore chapter would conduct an inquiry “in a fair and transparent manner strictly in accordance with law”.

NAB to get Farah Khan’s assets details from govt depts

The SBP will be asked to provide Financial Monitoring Unit’s report on Farah Khan’s accounts, sources said

LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Lahore, on Monday decided to write letters to the departments concerned to collect details of assets and bank accounts owned by Farah Khan, a friend of former first lady and wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, and her husband Ahsan Jameel Gujjar.

Sources said that letters would be written to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and some private banks.

They added that the NAB wanted to get details of Farah’s bank accounts both in US dollars and UK pounds. The SBP will be asked to provide Financial Monitoring Unit’s report on Farah Khan’s accounts, sources said adding after having done with the data gathering, Farah would be asked to appear before the NAB in person.

Quoting the NAB spokesman, they said that complaints of money laundering and assets beyond sources of income had been received against Farah. It has been reported in the media that Farah Khan’s assets have increased manifold in the recent past.

However, PTI Chairman Imran Khan came forward in defence of Farah Khan, saying that Farah has been in real estate business for the last twenty years and her fortune had increased due to a boom in real estate business in Pakistan.Imran Khan claimed that Farah Khan was innocent and if NAB has initiated a case against her, she would appear in person and contest the case.

Meanwhile, PMLN leader Khwaja Muhammad Asif said that he did not know to what extent Ahsan Jameel Gujjar had defended his wife Farah Khan but Imran Khan had worn himself out in defending Farah Khan. He said it seems that Imran Khan was in utter desperation lest anyone becomes an approver and clues should point at him.

Meanwhile, a twitter handle by the name of Ali Gilani posted that Imran Khan had expressed satisfaction over the money trails of two persons Farah Khan and Asim Bajwa, rest of the people became wealthy through corruption.

The Farah Khan scandal and the events in Madinah are the final nails in PTI’s coffin.

For me it was the single national curriculum and Imran Khan's fake use of religion. Iman Khan is a self centered guy who can't see above his own well being. I'm sorry we will have to wait for a new Messiah. This one looks confused and has whale like ego.

ISLAMABAD: Former information minister and senior PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said Thursday that despite the coalition government’s claims of Farah Khan — former PM Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi's close aide — being involved in corruption, "they have not been able to make a case against her."

Addressing a press conference flanked by PTI's Farrukh Habib, Fawad replied to the allegations levelled by Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb — who said the alleged foreign conspiracy is to save Farah Khan — saying that the coalition government blames her because it has “nothing else to blame the PTI for".

He said: “Farah will address all allegations against her and will move forward accordingly.”

LAHORE: With the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) initiating investigation against Farah Gogi, a close friend of former premier Imran Khan’s wife, for accumulating assets beyond means, the PML-N says she does not have money trail of Rs320 million and be brought back from the UAE to face corruption allegations.

“The Imran Khan government had benefited Farah Gogi to whiten her ‘black money’ amounting to Rs320m through amnesty scheme,” PML-N deputy secretary general Attaullah Tarar told a press conference here on Thursday.

He said Gogi’s assets increased from Rs210m to Rs850m during the last three years as she minted money through transfers and postings in Punjab with the alleged help of Usman Buzdar. He said Gogi also bought a flat in the UAE with this money.

Tarar said: “Since Imran Khan has tried to defend Gogi, it has become clear whose benami property is this.”

He said the ‘Farah Gogi gang’ would buy land in the area where any development scheme was to be announced to make money.

Tarar further said when Imran saw losing power, he made Farah Gogi flee the country. He said the interior ministry should take measures for her repatriation. He asked Imran Khan to prevail upon Gogi to come back if she was not holding his (Imran) benami properties.

Meanwhile, the NAB Lahore is conducting the inquiry against Farhat Shehzadi alias Farah Khan/Gogi. She is accused of “accumulating illegal assets beyond known sources of income, money laundering and maintaining various accounts in the name of different businesses”.

“A huge turnover amounting to Rs847 million has been found in her (Farah Gogi)’s account during the last three years, which does not commensurate with her stated account profile,” NAB said in a statement.

“These credits were received in her personal account and withdrawn immediately after credit within a short time period.”

While reviewing her income tax returns, it was allegedly observed that her assets have significantly increased from 2018 onwards for unknown reasons. Moreover, she has frequently been travelling to different countries, including nine times to the United States and six times to the United Arab Emirates.

Farah Gogi reportedly left for Dubai on April 5. She was also accused of using the aircraft of Punjab chief minister and obtaining land worth millions of rupees from real estate tycoon Malik Riaz.

The authorities have decided to bring back Farah Gogi from Dubai, who has been charged with corruption during the tenure of the previous government.

They have also decided to initiate legal proceedings against her, and her presence is required for interrogation. They believe that she acted as the “front person” of former prime minister Imran Khan and want to know the facts from her.

Sources said that the authorities have decided to get the banking details of four employees of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Central Secretariat, Tahir Iqbal, Mohammad Noman Afzal, Mohammad Arshad and Mohammad Rafiq.

They added that the record of amounts deposited in their private accounts from 2008 to 2022 is being obtained. They also hinted at possible arrests in the case.

Sources revealed that the authorities have also sought the record of Imran Khan from 2013 to 2022 in connection with foreign funding as the current record is of a five-year period.

They added that large sums of money have been provided to PTI and the records will reveal how much money Imran took and from whom during the sit-in.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will take action after obtaining the required record, they said.

Sources said that the authorities have decided to write a letter to the World Bank (WB) for the record of “secret international bank accounts” of PTI and Imran.

The data exchange agreement was signed during the tenure of former finance minister Ishaq Dar. Under this agreement, FBR has the legal authority to obtain records from WB, United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Norway, Finland, New Zealand, Australia and others.

Further record of foreign bank accounts will also be obtained, they added.

Sources also said that the authorities have decided to scrutinise Imran’s statements and income.

Some people are speculating that she act as front-woman for Imran Khan's corruption.

Well if IK is corrupt( which I doubt) then prosecute him. Zero tolerance for corruption. But the Nooras and PPP are looking for their methods of blackmailing and it won't work.

Why not? Surely its her family that should take responsibility. If IK defends your women it doesnt mean that he is responsible for their indiscretions. And pathetically you tried to avoid the trillion rp corruption by your crooks in Sindh. Too embarrassed to comment, i thought so.

Punjab Police officials were posted outside the Lahore residence of Farah Khan, for over three years, even though neither Khan nor her husband held a public office during that period.

The cops were posted outside her home, in the upscale Defence area of Lahore, first in September 2018, a month after Imran Khan was elected prime minister, confirmed a police officer who was on duty there, on the condition of anonymity.

The security detail was only pulled last month, on the first of Ramadan, he added.

He further told Geo.tv that the men in uniform were ordered to work in three shifts, eight hours each, to ensure the home was protected 24 hours. Four cops were deployed per shift, meaning 12 police officers and three police vehicles were dedicated to her home.

Another police officer, also posted outside Farah Khan’s home, told Geo.tv that he and his colleagues were first told that the secretary to the chief minister Punjab resided there.

Farah Khan is a close friend of the wife of former prime minister Imran Khan.

Last month, Pakistan’s anti-corruption body, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), opened a case to probe how her assets grew exponentially during the tenure of former prime minister Imran Khan.

But in a recent press conference, Imran Khan defended Farah Khan and asked how a case of corruption can be made against her.

“She was not a public office holder,” the former prime minister said, “She has been working in real estate for the last 20 years.”

As per the Blue Book, which spells out which VVIPs will be provided police security. Apart from serving office holders, such as the prime minister, chief minister, president, etc, who are entitled to security by the state, former officials can also avail this service.

At times famous personalities are provided police escort if there is an imminent threat to their life.

It is unclear how Farah Khan fell into any of these categories.

One of the cops Geo.tv spoke to also claimed that the security detail was provided to Farah Khan on the orders of Superintendent of the Police Ayesha Butt.

Geo.tv reached out to Ayesha Butt, who is now posted as the Superintendent of the Police Telecommunications in Punjab. The officer denied she had any knowledge of the officers being posted outside Farah Khan’s home, adding that she was surprised to see her name even mentioned in regards to this.

“I had no link to this,” she said, “I have never been posted in the branch which decides where security will be deployed.”

Farah Khan did not respond to Geo.tv’s request for comments. She is currently in Dubai, while her husband is in the United States.

Farhat Shahzadi alias Farah Gogi and her husband Ahsan Jameel have decided to return to Pakistan on May 10 to face the corruption allegations levelled by the ruling PML-N against them.

According to sources, Farah – a close friend of former premier Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi – and her husband have decided to challenge the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) authority to probe the allegations against them and completed consultations with their legal team.

Both have been nominated in money laundering and assets beyond means inquiry.

According to Farah’s counsel, her client was not married to Jameel when he was the district council chairman. The lawyer said that NAB cannot conduct inquiries against private individuals as Farah was not a public officer holder at the time.

Meanwhile, NAB Lahore spokesperson maintained that Farah’s case fell within the national graft buster’s ambit. It was said that NAB could conduct an inquiry in the assets beyond means case against any public office holder or their family members.

Farah’s husband was the Gujranwala district council chairman from 1997 to 1999.

Under the Constitution, complaints related to corruption and financial irregularities against former public officer holders and their family members fall within the ambit of NAB.

According to NAB, a turnover amounting to Rs847 million had been found in Farah’s account during the last three years, which did not commensurate with her stated account profile.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has sent out over 100 letters to various government departments, organizations, and banks to seek details on Farah Khan alias Farah Gogi and her husband Ahsan Jameel Gujjar.

The move by NAB Lahore is likely to compound problems for the couple, SAMAA TV’s Arshad Ali said.

They face allegations of corruption under the PTI government. The current government claims that Farah Gogi was a “frontperson” of Imran Khan in Punjab, where she received bribes from government officers in exchange for lucrative positions.

Some of the letters have been sent to the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) as the accountability body sought records on the companies set up and controlled by Farah Gogi and her husband.

The NAB has also written to the Federal Bureau of Revenue to seek tax records and wealth statements.

The central bank and commercial banks in the country have been asked to provide details on suspicious bank accounts linked to the couple.

The Revenue Office and other departments were expected to provide information on the properties owned by Gogi and Gujjar.

The details about Farah Khan and her husband are being sought under Section 19 of the NAB law, officials say.

Asad Rasool — who is a tax adviser to former first lady Bushra Bibi's friend Farah Khan — has termed all the allegations levelled against his client "baseless and false".

Speaking at a press conference, Advocate Rasool said all of Farah Khan's financial matters — which are being made part of controversy — took place before Usman Buzdar became the chief minister of Punjab. "Therefore, all the allegations against her are false," he added.

He said that Farah's wealth did not increase four times during the previous government's tenure. "Till June 30, 2018, her assets were worth Rs700 million," added Rasool.

Rasool further said he will answer if there are any legal queries, however, he will not answer any political questions.

Earlier, PML-N's leader Ataullah Tarar had said that Farah Gogi "looted the people of Punjab for three years" and former prime minister Imran Khan benefitted Farah with Rs320 million through the Tax Amnesty Scheme 2019.

Punjab Police officials were posted outside the Lahore residence of Farah Khan, for over three years, even though neither Khan nor her husband held a public office during that period.

Investigative authorities have made significant progress in the disproportionate assets case against Farah Khan, a close friend of former first lady Bushra Bibi, Express News reported on Friday.

The National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) Lahore office has sent more than 100 letters to various agencies for inquiry against Farah and her husband Ahsan Jamil Gujjar.

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has also submitted the records of companies allegedly owned by Farah and Ahsan, while the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has submitted their tax records and wealth statements.

According to the report, records are being received from various government-owned and privately-held banks for information on suspicious bank accounts.

NAB Lahore says that information is being gathered against the duo under Section 19 of the Accountability Act.

Asad Rasool, Farah’s legal adviser, says that on June 30, 2018, his client’s assets amounted to Rs701.62 million, and by June 30, 2021, her assets had increased to Rs752.37 million. Asad says that her assets grew by Rs57.718 million during the tenure of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.

LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore on Thursday summoned four accused in the assets beyond means case of Farhat Shehzadi alias Farah Khan, a close friend of former first lady Bushra Bibi.

According to sources, the accountability bureau has sent notices to Farah Khan’s manager, cashier and bankers. All four people were directed to appear before the NAB on May 30 along with the relevant records, sources said.

The notices were issued to four accused including Mazahir Baig, Waqar, Asif and Munir. Sources claimed that Director-General (DG) NAB Lahore has approved the notices to summon the people in Farah Khan’s case.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has summoned the four alleged frontmen of the former first lady’s close friend, Farah Khan, in the money laundering case.

Advocate Azhar Siddiqui, who is representing the accused in the case appeared before NAB Lahore.

While commenting on the matter, he said that the anti-graft body was summoning the said persons in a case that is out of its jurisdiction.

He highlighted that Farah got married in 2003 while Ahsan Jamil Gujjar was a district councillor in 1999.

He said that he has submitted a written response from Farah’s employees to the anti-corruption body.

He added that NAB’s notices were not only illegal but were also beyond its authority. He remarked that Farah had never been a public office holder and never worked in any government office.

He mentioned that all the employees mentioned in the case were working at Ghousia Builders and one employee was teaching tuition at Farah’s house.

Citing high courts, Advocate Siddiqui said that NAB was asked to first determine its jurisdiction and then issue notices. Hopefully, the jurisdiction will be determined first, and if not, the high courts will be approached, he added.

He also remarked that Farah will submit a written reply against the summons.

LAHORE: Provincial Minister and Spokesperson for the Government of Punjab Attaullah Tarar on Sunday said that if PTI Chairman Imran Khan was an honest man, then his wife's close aide Farah Gogi — who is in Dubai since corruption allegations were levelled against her by the government — should take the next to Pakistan.

Speaking during a press conference alongside PML-N's Secretary Information Azma Bukhari in Lahore, Tarar said that during the PTI tenure in power, Farah Gogi — whose real name is Farah Khan — "ruled over the entire country while sitting in Punjab."

"When the PTI government was in power, Gogi accumulated assets worth billions of rupees," he said, adding that diamonds worth billions of rupees were sent to Dubai from Pakistan where they were sold off.

He further alleged that Gogi was involved in the transfer and appointments of government officials in Punjab against hefty payments.

"The matter is not confined to the diamond dealings but soon, information about the selling of expensive paintings and watches will come to the fore too," Tarar said, adding that once these items were sold in Dubai, money was transferred to Pakistan via hundis.

The Punjab government spokesperson went on to say that Farah Gogi was involved in what could be termed "Asia's largest money-laundering scandal."

"I, therefore, demand that if Imran Khan is an honest man, then Farah Gogi should board the next flight to Pakistan," Tarar said.

It should be recalled that back in May when allegations of corruption had surfaced against Farah Gogi, Khan had come to her rescue and had said that she was innocent, adding that "cases registered against her were totally wrong" as "wealth beyond known sources of income" applied to public office holders only.

Tarar further said that the government had acquired some audio recordings proving Gogi's involvement in corrupt activities, adding that if requested, the recordings would be sent for forensic testing as well.

"Since Imran Khan was a public office holder, he is accountable for everything," Tarar said.

Taking over the presser, Azma Bukhari alleged that there were "two women responsible for steering Imran Khan out of poverty and running the financial affairs of his house."

"In a bid to carry out his corrupt activities, Imran Khan had hired two frontwomen: Farah Gogi and Pinky (Bushra Bibi)."

She further said that Khan's "Naya Pakistan revolved around him and his two frontwomen and that was the reality of the PTI."

"Right now, we have only dug up information related to the selling of diamonds in Dubai but details of other corruption-related issues will surface too," she said.

LAHORE: Punjab government spokesman Ataullah Tarar Sunday revealed an alleged audio recording of a conversation between property tycoon Malik Riaz and his daughter Amber Riaz in which the two could be heard discussing how the former first lady Bushra Bibi refused to accept a three-carat diamond ring from them.

The audio was brought to the fore by Tarar and PML-N Secretary Information Azma Bukhari during a press conference in Lahore today.

In the alleged audio, Amber could be heard telling her father — who enjoys congenial relations with all Pakistani politicians — that she had sent the then-first lady a three-carat diamond ring which she had refused to accept.

Without mentioning Farah Gogi's name in the audio, Amber said that she had a meeting with "her" (Farah) on Saturday, therefore, a five-carat diamond ring should be arranged for Bushra Bibi before that, adding that the ring would cost Rs10 million.

Amber further told her father that she (Farah) had told her that it was "no big deal for the first lady to own a three-carat ring, therefore, it was "unbecoming of them to send her something that everybody could own."

Upon hearing that, Malik Riaz could be heard telling his daughter "to get the ring that they (the first lady and Gogi) were demanding."

During the call, Amber could also be heard telling her father that the "locked doors to his sites will be opened the next morning", adding that "she" (Farah) had assured her that she received a call from Imran Khan.

"She (Farah) told me that she had received a phone call from Khan Sahab and said that he would take guarantee for the closure of the [cases] for which the reports have been submitted to him. You will also get a letter from Shahzad Akbar tomorrow," Amber could be heard telling her father.

During the press conference today, Tarar had said that if PTI Chairman Imran Khan was an honest man, then his wife's close aide Farah Gogi — who is in Dubai since corruption allegations were levelled against her by the government — should take the next to Pakistan.

When the PTI government was in power, Gogi accumulated assets worth billions of rupees," he said, adding that diamonds worth billions of rupees were sent to Dubai from Pakistan where they were sold off.

The reason for this tripe is that there is no proof of acryal money or good being given to Kaptaans wife. Surely its not rocket science to show money in an account or the ring given to her or anything else. And if Tarar wants her back why not NS, his sons, his nephew or all the rest of the family

Property tycoon Malik Riaz on Sunday termed an audio clip attributed to him on social media as "fake", threatening to take legal action against those behind the ‘conspiracy’.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders played an audio tape — purportedly a conversation between the business tycoon and his daughter, revealing how Farah Gogi 'demanded a gift' for former first lady Bushra Bibi.

During the conversation, the woman said to her father that Farah allegedly demanded a precious diamond as a gift for the ex-first lady in return for "removing locks" on a project site and withdrawing a report against her father.

It was revealed during that discussion that Farah Gogi earlier had rejected a three-carat diamond sent by the daughter of business tycoon as unworthy and unsuitable for the first lady, who she allegedly said routinely wore such things, and asked for a five-carat diamond.

The lady could be heard telling her father how Farah taunted her for sending "only a five-carat diamond ring". She also promised that the former premier would overturn measures against the projects of the business tycoon if a "more valuable gift was offered."

"With latest technologies as Deep Fake, fabricating an audio conversation shouldn't be a surprise," Riaz said in his statement.

He said that the audio tape associated to him on social media is a product of Deep Fake. "I don't wish to [be] involve[d] in political campaigns of any party, but the most appalling fact is that my voice and reference is being misused to settle personal and political scores," he added.

"I absolutely detest these continuous attacks on me, now involving my family too."

Riaz said that he intends to pursue the matter legally and will be using all possible legal forums to find people behind the conspiracy against him.

"Anyone found to be originator and facilitators in spreading fake material will be taken to task," he warned.

During the press conference held earlier in the day, PML-N leaders Attaullah Tarar and Uzma Bukhari had claimed that a troika of former prime minister Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi and her friend Farah Gogi made "billions" under the tenure of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.

"It started in 2019, when Imran Khan gave a relief worth Rs320 million to Ahsan Jamil Gujjar – Farah’s husband – under an amnesty scheme," PML-N leader Atta Ullah Tarar said at a news conference alongside Uzma Bukhari in Lahore. He added that the former PM gave the relief due to his personal relations and friendship between Bushra and Farah.

Tarar alleged that Imran Khan and his family continued to carry out corruption throughout PTI's tenure. "Commission and kickbacks were given while new records of corruption were made during PTI's tenure."

He said that Farah Gogi used Bushra Bibi's influence to do appointments and transfers in Punjab, adding that Ahsan Gujjar and Farah Gogi now own assets worth Rs10 billion.

"The assets that were in millions are now in billions. They should tell the poor Pakistani people so that they could also use their knowledge to come out of poverty," he added.

Tarar said that Imran Khan has never declared his assets and no one knows how he earns his living. Officers in Punjab were appointed after taking bribes, he said, adding that the CM Secretariat was used for this purpose. “Bushra Maneka wanted to make money by using her husband. Farah Gogi virtually ruled the entire Pakistan during these years," he claimed.

The PML-N leader said that the former premier misused his authority on the directions of Bushra Maneka. "Troika of Imran Khan, Bushra Maneka and Farah Gogi made billions by selling diamonds in Dubai which were purchased with bribe money," he added.

He said that Imran Khan himself used to raise slogans against others for corruption but he hasn't been able to give a money trail yet.

Tarar said that mafias grew under the leadership of Imran Khan and he must respond to the allegations. "It is clear in the audio leak how Farah Gogi made assets worth billions. It can be clearly heard that she's asking for a five-carat diamond and refused the three-carat one. This is just one case and there are many such diamonds which were used to make the black money white," he added.

He said that Farah Gogi left Pakistan as soon as she realised that she was about to get into trouble and Imran Khan helped her in fleeing the country.

Uzma Bukhari, another PML-N leader, said that her party knew about the misconduct of the PTI government, adding that now 'proofs' are being surfaced for everyone to see.

"The audio reveals just one case [of bribery] but it is not the entire story... it is only a trailer of a film," she added.

Uzma said that Imran Khan had kept two "front women" to hide his corruption. "There is a saying that there is a woman behind the success of every man but in Imran Khan's case there were two women," she added.

Farah Khan involved in ‘Asia’s largest money-laundering scam’: PML-N

LAHORE: The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has claimed that the former first lady’s friend Farah Khan was involved in perhaps “Asia’s largest money-laundering scandal”.

The party leaders at a presser on Sunday ran an audio clip involving a property tycoon as purported evidence of the “corruption being done by Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi and Farah Khan” when the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) was in power.

Dawn was unable to independently verify the content and origin of the audiotape.

Ataullah Tarar, the Punjab government’s spokesperson, and PML-N provincial information secretary Azma Bukhari alleged that Farah Khan “ruled over the entire country from her office in Punjab” and accumulated “assets worth billions of rupees”.

Calling her Farah Gogi, Mr Tarar alleged that she used to “approve transfers and appointments” of government officials in Punjab against hefty payments and the wealth was spent on purchasing diamonds worth billions of rupees. The diamonds were sent to Dubai, where they were sold off.

He alleged that “the matter is not confined to diamond dealings as information about the selling of expensive paintings and watches will come to the fore soon”.

He said proceeds from the sale in Dubai were transferred to Pakistan through hawala and hundi.

He called upon the PTI chairman to ask Farah Gogi to return home and join investigations.

The audio clip allegedly featuring top realtor Malik Riaz and his daughter was played during the presser. The duo was talking about demands made by Farah Khan in return for some “government favours”.

In the audio clip, the daughter tells her father that Farah Khan had phoned her to inform that the first lady had asked her not to accept a three-carat diamond ring. She quoted Farah as asking her to take back the ring as “I don’t like such an ordinary object”.

Then the tycoon asks his daughter to give her what she’s asking for. “I have offered her (Farah) to buy them a five-carat [ring], which would cost Rs10 million. She says as ‘your appointment (with Farah) has been set for Saturday’, the ring should be arranged before it,” the daughter replies.

Malik Riaz asks his daughter to place an order for the ring. She says she had done so and it would be delivered the next day.

The daughter is also heard telling her father that the locks of his site [for developing a residential society] would be opened in the morning.

Without naming Farah, she quotes her as saying that [Imran] Khan Saheb had phoned, guaranteeing that he would get removed the [negative] report which had been submitted [apparently about the housing scheme site] and that [former adviser to PM on accountability] Shehzad Akbar’s letter would also be delivered to them.

According to sources, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had objected to a housing scheme by Malik Riaz in Peshawar because it was “illegal as it had been launched without seeking permission” from the authorities concerned.

Mr Tarar claimed that the government had acquired more audio recordings as “evidence against corruption of Ms Gogi”. “The clips could be sent for a forensic test if required.”

Ms Bukhari, the PML-N leader, said sarcastically the two women — Bushra Bibi and Farah Gogi — had steered Imran Khan out of poverty after running the “financial affairs of Banigala”.

“Imran Khan has hired two front women for his corrupt practices,” she alleged.

She said that so far her party had “dug up information” related to the sale of diamonds in Dubai, but details of other “wrongdoing” would surface soon.

NAB summons Farah Khan in assets case
Husband and 19 others facing allegations of embezzlement, money laundering also summoned

LAHORE:
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB)-Lahore has summoned former first lady Bushra Bibi’s close friend Farah Khan, her husband Ahsan Iqbal Jamil and Chaudhry Majeed, along with 19 others, in the assets case against her.

The anti-graft watchdog has directed Farah to appear before the deputy director at the NAB provincial headquarters at Thokar Niaz Baig, along with relevant documents on July 20, while her husband Ahsan Iqbal Jamil has been also summoned on the same day.

In addition to this, NAB has also summoned Abdul Majeed, Tariq Mahmoodul Hassan, Mazahir Baig, Munir, Asif and Waqar in the same case on July 15 while Muhammad Farid has been ordered to appear on July 14.

Shandana Awan, Mohammad Naeem, Waqas Rifat, Sajid Hussain, Ahmed Mansoor, Asad Majeed, Hamid Hameed, Shehzad Ahmed, Anwarul Haq and Nasir Nawaz have also been summoned in the same case.

Earlier in May, the NAB-Lahore had summoned four accused in the assets beyond means case of Farah Khan. The bureau had sent notices to her manager, cashier and bankers. All four people were directed to appear before the NAB on May 30 along with the relevant records.

In April, the anti-graft watchdog had stated in a press statement that the DG NAB Lahore was directed to conduct an inquiry against Farah Khan over allegations of illegal assets beyond known sources of income, money laundering and maintaining various accounts in the name of different businesses.

Google search shows ‘Gogi’

Meanwhile, Punjab Home Minister Ataullah Tarar responded to a defamation notice worth Rs6 billion sent to him by Farha for wrongly referring to her as "Gogi" during press talks, claiming her name was Farhat Shahzadi.

In his reply through his counsel on Wednesday, Tarar argued that Farah was widely known as “Gogi” and claimed the name appeared as such even in Google search.

“The allegations made by Farah against his client are false and baseless,” the lawyer asserted and doubled down on the allegations that Farah had embezzled billions of rupees from the national exchequer, along with Ahsan and Bushra Bibi, under the patronage of former prime minister Imran Khan.

The response also mentioned that Farah is under investigation by federal and provincial anti-corruption agencies and has fled the country to avoid corruption investigation and punishment.

According to the law, they are continuing their efforts to bring Farah back through a red warrant, and she will have to face the investigation on her return home, it was added.

ACE raids Farah Khan’s house in land allotment case

LAHORE: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE), Punjab, raided the Lahore residence of Farhat Shahzadi, also known as Farah Khan, a close friend of PTI chairman Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi, in connection with alleged illegal allotment of an expensive commercial plot to her.

According to officials, an ACE Faisalabad team raided Farah’s residence here for her alleged involvement in acquiring a commercial plot worth Rs 600 million against Rs80 million in Faisalabad by setting up a bogus company.

Farah, her mother and some officials of the Faisalabad Industrial Estate Development and Management are nominated in the case registered by the ACE. Farah has been in the UAE for the last three months.

The ACE arrested two officials of the industrial estate. It is investigating Farah and her husband’s properties.

Meanwhile, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Lahore, has summoned Farah Khan on July 20 in the income beyond means and money laundering investigation.

The NAB also summoned her husband Ahsan Jamil and 18 others in this investigation.

Farah Khan, a close friend of PTI chairman Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi, has sent a legal notice as a "final reminder" to PML-N's Attaullah Tarar, asking him to refrain from defaming her.

In the legal notice dated August 10, Farah's lawyer Azhar Siddique said Tarar had refuted all contentions raised without "corroborating any of the defenses taken by him with concrete evidence".

"In fact, your counsel has admitted to the defamation of our client by stating 'Farah Khan aka Gogi Farhat Shahzadi'. The use of the derogatory name which is being challenged through our legal notices in a reply to the same clearly cements the fact that you have defamed our client," the notice said, attaching a copy of the reply Tarar submitted to an earlier notice.

The notice demanded that Tarar cease and desist from all ongoing and existing defamation of Farah, her name and her reputation. It also demanded that the PML-N leader tender an unconditional apology within seven days of receiving the notice which stated that he would desist from further defamation of Farah.

It also asked Tarar to "publish a contradiction and tender an unconditional apology together with a prompt and perpetual cease and desist written assurance" in every prominent newspaper, electronically as well as via social media within seven days of receiving the notice.

In addition, it also asked Tarar to pay Farah a sum of Rs5 billion for using the "derogatory and defamatory term" in the past and an additional Rs5bn for using the same term once again in London in May 2022.

It stated that since the PML-N leader had not adhered to the requests made in the earlier notices, "we are hereby intimating you that we are initiating defamation proceedings against you before the court of competent jurisdiction".

Farah reportedly left the country following the PTI chief's ouster from power. She has since been named in several cases that have been opened against her by investigators. In July, the Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment booked Farah and her mother and arrested two others in a case concerning the allegedly illegal allotment of two industrial plots, measuring 10 acres, to a company owned by her.

The plots were allotted on a subsidised rate offered by the government that was Rs83m but their market value was about Rs600m.

Earlier in April, NAB authorised an inquiry against her on allegations of accumulating "illegal assets beyond known sources of income, money laundering, and maintaining various accounts in the name of businesses".

At the same time, the PTI chief defended Farah as "absolutely innocent", describing the corruption probe against her as a "political vendetta" against him.

Last July, Bushra Bibi a purported leaked audio clip allegedly told the PTI social media head to link criticism against her and Farah with treason.

ACE gives ‘clean chit’ to Farah in land scam

LAHORE: The Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) investigation team appears to have given a ‘clean chit’ to Farhat Shahzadi known as Farah Khan, a close friend of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi, in plots’ allotment case.

Hamza Shehbaz’s government in early July had booked Farah and her mother in a case of illegal allotment of two industrial plots, measuring 10 acre, to a company owned by her and also made some arrests in this regard.

“The ACE joint investigation team did not find involvement of Farah and others in causing financial loss to the exchequer,” an official source said, and added the investigation team had recommended sending its findings to the Special Economic Zone Authority for further investigation.

ACE spokesperson Abdul Wahid neither denied nor admitted closure of the investigation against Farah and others.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Lahore in July summoned Farah and her husband Ahsan Jamil Gujjar in connection with an investigation into income beyond means and money laundering case.

The prime minister’s special assistant, Attaullah Tarar, had announced plans for seeking “red warrants” to bring Farah back to Pakistan from the UAE where she had gone days before the no-confidence motion succeeded against Imran Khan.

Interestingly, Mr Tarar had also asked Imran Khan to call Farah back to the country if he (Imran) had a firm belief that she was innocent. “I must say here that Imran is not bringing her back here because she and her husband will become approvers within an hour of their arrest,” he claimed.

Farah, however, has maintained that she is “innocent” and her “media trial” is being carried out to malign the former first lady.

Farhat Shahzadi alias Farah Gogi on Wednesday sent a notice of Rs5 billion to Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on defamation charges.

According to an anti-corruption unit, Rana Yousuf, the former chief executive officer of Faisalabad Industrial Estate Development and Management Company (FIEDMC) and Maqsood Ahmed, the secretary of Special Economic Zone Committee, were accused of allotting 10 acres of land in the Faisalabad Special Economic Zone to Farah Gogi.

According to officials, the accused had illegally allotted a plot worth Rs600 million to Farah Gogi and her mother's company Al-Mu'az Dairy for only Rs83 million.

Farah Gogi's husband Ahsan Jamil Gujjar had given a fake guarantee of Rs2 billion to get an industrial plot. The anti-corruption unit was also investigating Farah Gogi's and her husband's assets.

A three-member joint investigation team had registered a case against the accused and launched an investigation.

In May there had been reports that Farah – a close friend of former premier Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi – and her husband had decided to challenge the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) authority to probe the allegations against them and completed consultations with their legal team.

The legal notice sent by senior lawyer Azhar Siddique today stated that Rana Sanaullah had made false allegations that affected the clients' good name.

It also stated that statements based on false allegations were spread over social media and television channels.

Demanding an apology to be submitted within seven days, the notice also stated that legal action through courts would be persued should the statements not be regretted.
