Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah on Monday said the Pakistan Super League final will be held in Lahore as scheduled, reported DawnNews.

"The announcement to hold the final in Lahore will be made shortly by Chief Minister Secretariat," said the law minister.

He added that preparations have been made to hold the final at the Gaddafi Stadium and final preparations are ongoing at the venue.

The decision was made in a meeting held earlier today.

PSL Chairman Najam Sethi said the decision has been announced by the Punjab government and added that the tickets for the final will go on sale from Tuesday.

"We have to wait till March 3 to know which foreign players will travel to Lahore, as we still do not know which two teams will qualify," said the PSL chairman.

He also said he salutes the chief minister of Punjab for the decision and all provincial and federal authorities, including security forces, are "on the same page".

"This is a time for the people to be united and resilient," said Sethi adding that the decision has shown the country will not be held hostage by terrorism.

Sethi also said the wish of the people had been conveyed to the government and the government in turn had ensured proper arrangements for the PSL final.

Due to security concerns following a recent wave of terror attacks in different parts of the country, including Lahore, there had been speculation that the PSL final may not be held in Pakistan after all.

Events and activities have been banned in areas surrounding Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium until March 5.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shaharyar Khan earlier said despite recent terror attacks in Lahore, the PCB was eager to hold the high-profile PSL final in the provincial capital. However, he had categorically stated that the final decision in this regard would rest with the government.

People are united and resilient to for what? More than a 100 people are dead.. What about the ones who already lost their lives? Is your politics and self-gloating more important than the lives of the people? Shame on everyone involved in this decision

Why does it always have to be in Lahore? Make an international level stadium in Islamabad and have matches there. It would be relatively easier to convince foreigners to come to the capital rather than to Lahore and Karachi. Foreign diplomats are present in Islamabad 24/7 doing their duties with no problems. Lara, McGrath, Ambrose, Rhodes among others have come to Islamabad for a prolonged stay without any security let alone presidential level and have safely stayed their time. It's not that difficult unless you don't want to construct a new stadium.

It's more a decision of false pride, ego than rationale and objective. If it's help to bring international cricket back then go ahead, or if it's just to have cricket back then we should have complete tournament in Pakistan.

I hope well reputed foreign players will play final

What will we gain from the Final now?

The main purpose for the PSL Final to be in Lahore was to convince other countries that Lahore is the safe place for playing cricket. The purpose was lost after the Mall Road bomb blast.

It is the ego my dear. Even Karachi is safer than Lahore at the moment. It's just that the rulers who have been elected from Takht-e-Lahore and their minions who are running the PCB are unwilling to accept this. It is the same 'arrogance' which has led to pamphlets being distributed in Lahore requiring shop traders of Pukhtoon origin to go through extra vetting.

What kind of logic it is to hold matches in the same place where the SL team got attacked in 2009. Common sense would dictate that you hold the matches in some other location until the stigma of Lahore being ground zero of the attack is removed.

Govt. want to use this as another medal on their chest (already full of such dummy models) when they go to the public for next election.

Stupid decision, and I have been the one who has been wanting it held in Pakistan. But the blasts changed all that.

I really hope no foreign player is stupid enough to goto Pakistan... its almost equivalent facing a loaded gun in your face with the trigger in the hand of the terrorist

Finalists will be decided on Friday. When will PSL be able to hold new draft for teams if foreign players decide not to participate.

There is so little notice, how will things be done in time? Stupid decision.

Curfew almost imposed around stadium....shops will be closed, roads blocked two days before....simple message...It's peace in Lahore, Pakistan

Just want to get done and over with this. It's a circus out there. Nobody knows what's happening.

Najam Sethi:Tickets Would Go On Sale from Tomorrow [Tuesday], Both online As Well at OutLets

While talking to the media, the Chairman of Pakistan Super League, Najam Sethi has confirmed that the final of PSL would be held in Lahore on 5th March.

Najam Sethi said the tickets would go on sale from tomorrow [Tuesday], both online as well as at outlets. He said:

"Details [regarding tickets] will be available tomorrow"

Answering the question about the availability of the foreign players, Najam Sethi commented:

"We have to wait until March 3 to know which foreign players will travel to Lahore, as we still do not know which two teams will qualify. We have already spoken to all foreign players. I will go back to Dubai to speak [about the final]. Inshallah, foreign players will come"

The Government of Punjab today gave green signal to PCB for holding the final of PSL in Lahore.

So peace will be acquired by keeping shops and hotels closed around the vicinity of the stadium ..

Stupid decision this.

I'm hearing Sunset+Vine has refused to go to Pakistan. Broadcast production may go to PTV now.

I think its about time we all accept this.

International Cricket is never returning to Pakistan. Cricket will slowly die, talent is already drying up. Fans are slowly diminishing. Even after 10 years of no terrorist attacks, the only place that would be considered safe is Lahore. A country with 200 Million people will only depend on Lahore to host its international cricket.

It is a sad truth, but those who do not want Pakistan to have Cricket anymore have won.

By having the final in Lahore we are ruining the quality of the final by putting it in a country foreigners do not wanna go. If I was a foreigner I would leave PSL.

Isn't it too pessimistic

But that is false, Lahore is hardly safe. Other cities like Faisalabad, Multan, Rawalpindi have had almost zero attacks yet will never see cricket because a certain party wants every good thing to be associated with Lahore. (and I am from Lahore myself)

Cricket won't die if PCB puts money into domestic to allow a major league of cricket to be created. What they need to do is make a PSL version of domestic. To run regular televised matches. Make competition within Pakistan instead of relying on international cricket to come to Pakistan. If they do that we will produce better cricketers.

decision makes no sense now! before the blasts, it would have been great, some players may have even traveled to lahore. But the blasts have shattered the sense of security developed over the last couple of years.

Would have been better to hold the final in uae. With international players the tv ratings would have earned pcb enough profit.

Very expensive tickets. Imagine the price of tickets that will be sold in black.

Bans on their way for some if you keep on posting useless stuff

These tickets are expensive.

What's the ticket price of Faisal Bank T20 Final? PSL Final should be 25% over it.

Right decision. The hype, excitement and atmosphere of holding it in Lahore after all the difficulties will be even higher. This is the sort of promotion and advertising money can't buy.

Plus, it is not a decision based solely on making money or being unable to go back on their word.

Terrorism has happened in Pakistan for years now. It also happens all over the world but the reason teams are not touring Pak is because a cricket team specifically was targeted and might be again. If Pakistan can hold this event successfully, then it goes to prove that despite all the scrutiny and risks and obvious target from terrorists, the security was enough to keep the players safe.

Now is it true, that an incident might happen elsewhere in Lahore but it is not right to blame this on the cricket.

Hi. This is my first post on PP. There is fear and then there's doubt. Hold the final , don't hold the final. What if something happens what if and what if! Ok let's say something does happen then there would be no cricket for the next 10 years period. If we dont stand up to these thugs now we might as well forget cricket in Pakistan for the next ten years in any case. Caution must not breed pessimism and apprehension shouldn't gibe way to fear and inertia.

Yes...negative

I don't understand why people don't have this foresight. If the final was played in Pakistan this year then what will the organisers have planned for next year's edition?

Foreign players will opt out from the start if more games are planned in Pakistan.

Then you can pay less and not get a ticket of the freaking VIP stand.

It is the VIP stand for a reason.

why would I want to sit in the general enclosure either? :)) jk

it a whole lot of bother to go to GSL on match day just to see local players

Disagree with this decision based on three reasons:

1) Firstly you don't "prove security" through the hosting of one match where massive amounts of police, military and intelligence personnel are going to be ushered in at great expense to create some artificial sense of safety. The very fact Pakistani authorities are having to go to such lengths shows the country is not safe yet !

A country's ability to provide security for its people is judged over time - and the fact is terrorists can still strike in a major city like Lahore. The intelligence service assessment is that there remains a high risk to the city. Yes the number of civilian deaths due to terrorism has decreased in the last 2 years but god forbid ONE attack occurs, no matter how minor, and that progress will be erased.

2) How can this be a "confidence building step" if the foreign players aren't going ? The whole point of international cricket returning to Pakistan is that the foreign players have enough confidence in the security situation, which they clearly do not.

People said that about the Zimbabwe series yet not one international team has toured since.

3) I'm not interested in political grandstanding about showing how resilient we are in the face of terrorism. This is not Bollywood and I'm not prepared to sacrifice ONE police officer's life for the sake of Najam Sethi's ego.

You do not play with the lives of human beings so you can boast that you brought the PSL to Pakistan. The fact the apex committee has procrastinated for days over this decision shows they cannot guarantee security.

This logic is so absurd when u think about how the govts have treated the fans in khi back in early 2000 when teams used to visit rest of the Pakistan barring khi because of the threats and now the tides have turned around but the current govt only equates Pakistan to lhr. The rest of the country can go to hell in their eyes....actually this is a fact this govt only thinks about lahore and its people thats it..

Worst possible decision. This will achieve nothing. Will just show how big a fuss holding a high profile domestic cricket match in Pakistan is. I would go as far as calling it a blunder. In terms of risk benefit analysis, risk is huge and benefit is little.

Excellent and brave decision by PCB, Punjab government and security establishment. They took their time to make a very difficult decision but a correct one in my opinion.

This decision may seem absurd to some now, but the fact is, Pakistan, specifically Lahore is a LOT safer than it was a few years ago. The last bomb attack on mall road was a last ditch attempt by the extremist elements to show the world that Lahore is not secured, but this decision has proved otherwise.

Thank you PCB, Punjab Government and the security establishment.

If something goes wrong international Cricket will not take place in Pak for next ten years. Praying for the best here yet fearing the worst. I don't see the point in playing the final in Lahore when the entire tournament was played in the UAE.

Agree on all counts.

There's no point complaining about it now, the decision has been made. May as well get behind the tournament final and hope for the best.

Howver, as posted above, the decision has been made and it's time to support it.

Will be the first step to a long journey to bring cricket back to Pakistan. Now the decision has been made, which was not easy, I will support it and wish them all the best. Won't be surprised if no foreign players went there, hope next time.

No matter the security, there will be an attack.

The attackers may not break through the defence put up by the army and police, but lives of those protecting them may be lost.

Too much risk this year.

Best to consider it next year or in 2019.

Five-tier security planned for PSL final participants

LAHORE: Both the teams contesting Pakistan Super League final match in the provincial metropolis will be accorded five-tier security to avert any eventuality, decides the Punjab government.

The provincial cabinet committee on law and order which met here on Monday with Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in the chair decided to provide the PSL final participants security almost equal to that of heads of states.

The match will be played at Gadhafi Stadium on March 5.

A senior official who attended the meeting, told Dawn that usually the VVIPs were offered three-tier security cover, but for the players and others it would be five-tier during their travel to and from the stadium.

The official said other than match timings, the players would be given “box security” which meant that only those person(s) would be allowed access to them who had been pre-determined and authorised to meet them. The players would be under security rings 24 hours, he added.

The meeting decided that bio-metric identification of all those coming to the stadium to watch the match would be mandatory and no one would be allowed entry without showing his or her Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC)
.

The spectators would be checked using walk-through gates, metal detectors and sniffers before being allowed entry into the stadium, the official said.

Police and army contingents would be deployed in and around the stadium, while no parking would be allowed within 400 yards of the venue.

The law enforcers have been directed to check bio-data of those residing in the vicinity of the stadium and of their servants as well.

The chief minister appealed to the nation to support the government’s efforts for making the PSL final a success.

He also asked the agencies concerned to ensure the best coordination among themselves to implement the security plan, besides an effective monitoring system.

He said he would daily review the security plan for plugging loopholes, if any.

Meanwhile, the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) has announced that the provincial capital will be exempted from loadshedding on March 5, while the Gadhafi Stadium will be supplied power from Garden Town and Shadman grids. Besides, arrangements for standby generators will also be made.

Should not be happening in Pakistan, and if it is Lahore is the wrong venue.

This is all to please Sethi's ego. Its a dumb move but nothing unexpected. This final will feel like a washed out version of PSL. I am looking forward to the semi finals more than the final.

I'm not sure how desperate people are to watch this in the stadium but with so much hassle (parking problems, checkings etc) and the already existing terror threats, i personally wouldn't want to go. Idk what message they are trying to send by doing all this.

So much security for players who will most likely be the same players who play in Faysal Bank t20 final...

Angry cricket fans protest PSL ticket shortage

There were scenes of anger and protest in Lahore where thousands of cricket fans swarmed outside branches of the Bank of Punjab to buy Pakistan Super League final tickets.

The mega cricket event will be held on March 5 amid tight security.

When the available tickets, ranging between Rs.500 and Rs.12,000, sold out as hot cake, thousands of fans were disappointed and refused to leave the banks, chanting slogan in anger and frustration, our correspondent said.

Gathered outside the banks, the cricket lovers said they had queued since morning to secure their place at the final match.

People told Samaa that the bank officials have sold only a few tickets of Rs.500 to compel the fans to buy Rs.12,000 tickets. The Rs.500 ticket was not available at many branches, prompting fans to protest the shortage.

Police and Rangers were called to control the chaos prevailed over the ticketing.

On the other hand, the online sale of tickets booked all the Qaddafi Stadium enclosures just within few hours, leaving fans disappointed.

people chanting,

'paanch so paanch so'

they have a point there...

Imran Khan did gave a statement a few day's ago that PSL in Lahore is a very stupid decision while the PMLN guys bashed him for playing the role of an enemy in the revival of cricket!

Furthermore, they also mentioned that the decision has been taken by consulting the locals which seems factitious

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Super League (PSL) administration has decided to increase the quantity of tickets for final match after watching the enthusiasm of cricket fans.

According to the reports, number of tickets that were to be distributed among business enterprises will now be decreased and these tickets will be provided to cricket lovers through banks on Thursday.

However, the price of additional tickets has not been disclosed.

Let it be known that PSL final tickets earlier ranged from Rs 500 to Rs 12000. According to a British broadcaster, PSL final has already gained immense popularity, and rapid sale of tickets is its proof. APP

LAHORE: Cricket lovers continued to line up outside Bank of Punjab (BoP) branches on Thursday to get their hands on tickets for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) final.

Long queues of cricket enthusiasts were seen outside banks in the provincial capital for the second consecutive day. Many of them stood in front of the BoP head office on Gulberg Main Boulevard and some had even been waiting since 7am.

“Yesterday, I reached here at around 10am but could not get near the ticket window even after eight hours. Today, I left home after Fajr prayers to grab PSL final tickets for my family, but I still don’t foresee any chance” said Abid Khan.

Cricket fans complained that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), on Wednesday, announced it would provide more tickets to the banks for sale. However, bank officials said they were yet to receive a single ticket from the organisers.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, a BoP official confirmed the bank did not receive any tickets from the PSL organisers on Thursday. “We had a limited number of Rs8,000 tickets for sale, which had also been sold in a couple of hours. Now we don’t have any tickets for sale but cricket fans are not willing hear any excuse,” he disclosed.

The black market

Black marketing of PSL final tickets continued on social media websites and online sales portals on the Thursday. Black marketers remained active over on social media platforms, offering the Rs500 ticket for a premium price of Rs2,000.

They mentioned mobile phone numbers under PSL ticket offers. A post on Lahore Buying Selling Facebook page reads: “PSL Final Tickets Available. Now Just 50 Tickets Remaining. Contact Number 034553XXXX.”

FIA action

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Thursday arrested a person for illegally selling the PSL final ticket on Facebook. Umar Waqas s/o Muhammad Farooq was detained by the FIA’s Cyber Crime Circle from Gulberg area for illegally selling Rs500 tickets for Rs3,000.

FIA officials also recovered four tickets from his procession and seized Facebook chat logs on his mobile phone. The agency registered a case (FIR No.23/17) and started investigation.

Security

City police and law enforcing conducted a complete rehearsal from Lahore Airport to Pearl Continental Hotel on Mall Road. Capital City Police Officer along with other senior officials visited Qaddafi Stadium to inspect security arrangements for the final.

Punjab Rangers also deployed their contingents in and around the stadium. Security agencies blocked all entry and exit points of the Qaddafi Stadium for reasons. Law enforcing agencies installed over 500 close circuit television (CCTV) cameras to monitor all activities.

CM’s orders: ‘Public should have easy access to PSL’

District administration and law enforcing also ordered the management of the hotel to cancel all events scheduled for Sunday and minimise rush during the stay of cricket players.

The district administration also instructed banquet halls to keep their businesses closed on Sunday as law enforcing agencies decided to seal the whole area for all types of traffic.

Emergency services

Punjab Emergency Services (Rescue 1122) Director General Dr Rizwan Naseer, along with other senior officials visited, Qaddafi Stadium to review the emergency plan. He disclosed that Rescue 1122 would deploy extra ambulances and staff to provide emergency, rescue and medical cover to spectators of PSL final on Sunday.

Parking and transport

The government made arrangements for motorcycle and car parking at six places. According the plan, traffic coming from the Mall Road, Dharampura, Anarkali, Qartaba Chowk and City Division via Ferozpur Road will park their vehicles under the Muslim Town Bridge.

People coming from the Mall Road via Canal Road will park in the FC College parking lot. Spectators coming from Gulberg, Cantt and Jail Road will park at Liberty Market and Tariq Road (cars only).

Spectators coming from Cavalry Ground, DHA, Cantt, Johar Town, Faisal Town and Wapda Town using Season Chowk crossing at Kalma Chowk will park at Liberty Market. HKB and Jam-e-Shireen parking is for cars only after parking at Liberty Market and Sunfort Hotel is full.

Traffic coming from Cavalry Bridge, Walton Road, Gulberg and Gurumangat Road using Cavalry Bridge will park at Liberty Market and HKB (alternate parking). VIP spectators will park at the PCSIR ground.

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board has invited several former cricketing greats for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) final, set to be played at the Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday.

However, when the media persons contacted former players Javed Miandad and Abdul Qadir, they said they have not received any invitation for the showpiece event. “It is not important for us whether they invite us or not but so far I have not received any invitation from the PCB,” said Miandad while talking to Dawn.

Qadir’s reply was the same and he said that although one of Gaddafi Stadium’s gates is named after him, he has not received any invitation for the PSL final.

A PCB official, when contacted to comment on the situation, confirmed that all the eligible cricketers would get their tickets and passes in the next couple of days.

“We received the invitation cards on Thursday morning and these are now being dispatched to all the invitees including cricketers and other VVIPs and they will get it by tomorrow or by Saturday,” the spokesman said.

Miandad, Qadir await invitations
The high government dignitaries including president, prime minister, four provincial chief ministers and governors, highly ranked bureaucrats are also invited for the final.

Meanwhile, the local administration, with the help of Pakistan Army, Rangers, Police is busy giving final touches to the elaborate security arrangements for the match which is indeed a challenge for the authorities.

Meanwhile, the spokesman said that all the match tickets put on sale either through online or through designated branches of the Bank of Punjab have been sold out. However, he was unable to disclose the total worth of the tickets sold.

As the rates of the tickets are quite high this time at Rs12,000, Rs8,000, Rs4,000 and Rs500, the total worth of the stadium having a seating capacity of around 25,000, comes to around Rs180 million.

In the past, Gaddafi Stadium, even when packed to capacity, has generated just around Rs10 million from a match.

Though the final has been declared as an extremely high profile and sensitive occasion and every possible safety measure has been taken to hold it in a peaceful manner, the sports journalists are still awaiting a comprehensive briefing from either the PCB or the security agencies to help them perform their duties professionally and without any hurdle.

Meanwhile, the security agencies also held a dress rehearsal of bringing the two teams to the stadium from their hotel. For this purpose three routes were tested. Moreover, a similar rehearsal was also held at the Lahore Airport, where the two teams will be landing, to bring them into their hotel.

The Punjab government has also decided to provide bus shuttle service to the ticket-holders and to off-load them in front of their respective enclosures after picking them from the car parking stand.

For this purpose, arrangements have been finalised with a big private bus service group. The same buses will also pick the ticket-holders from the stadium and drop them at the parking after the final. It is the first time that such a shuttle service will be provided to the ticket-holders.

hunh? more like stupid reporting.. most of the time its rubbish reporting that just creates issues out of nothing!!

Supply and demand people, if buyers are willing to pay 12,000PKR for tickets then of course PSL management will sell it at that price. Its still a business venture at the end of the day.
