A Slovakia-based startup's $1 million flying car is officially rolling out to buyers in 2020

AeroMobil unveiled the final, commercial design for its flying car at the supercar show Top Marques Monaco on Thursday. But the vehicle won’t come cheap; AeroMobil says it will cost between €1.2 million and €1.5 million ($US1.3 million and $US1.6 million), with deliveries beginning in 2020.

AeroMobil is accepting pre-orders for its flying car, but is only producing 500 units.

AeroMobil says the vehicle can transform into flight mode in less than 3 minutes. As a car, it has a top speed of 100 mph (160 kph) and can drive for 434 miles (700 km).

The vehicle can fly for 466 miles (750 km) and reach a top speed of 223 mph (360 kph) when in the air, the company claims.

Owners will need a pilot licence to operate the vehicle in Europe and access to a runway for when they want to fly.

The vehicle is certified to operate in Europe, but AeroMobil plans to eventually release it in the US, AeroMobil CTO Douglas MacAndrew told Business Insider. Once it's cleared to operate in the US, AeroMobil will look to introduce it in China as well.

Seen the trails and videos, although you know whenever its 2020 and not 2018 ,it only proves that its far off from commercial use, most of tech giants use such news for fund flow.

Maybe but they are taking preorders tho. Got a million bucks I can borrow? :))

I wonder if I will need a car drivers licence or a pilots licence to use those flying cars

The world is moving to flying cars and we are still stuck with beating up people for eating habits.. Sub continent needs to change their priorities..

Background music ruined it. I wanted to hear the sound it makes.

Whats the point of bringing subcontinent here? Give us the same affluence, and Desis too would spend their time surfing and singing. Reality changes priorities.

Absolutely! Unfortunately it's not happening anytime soon, at least not in democracy.

Aren't you from sub continent? I want my country to grow and I would like to point out our wrong priorities.. Why should I care if this thing comes up in Europe but what I care about is why we are not focussing on such technologies and are spending money and manpower over stupid issues..

SL_Fan this has more chance of doing it due to it being VTOL.

Why do you think our priorities are such? Why is Azan or a cow more important than flying cars?

I share your sentiment on what our priorities should be, but I also understand why it won't be the case for majority of Indians. Poverty and hopelessness has led to the subcontinent undergoing a major cultural degradation, and it will take decades for us to recover. Point is that people are not choosing to get their priorities wrong, for many, it is the only option.

The problem with such aircraft is regulating them in civilian airspace and we're a long way off yet but with technological advancements in the future there could be a market for them.

Talking of drones saw this doco sometime back not sure what it was called but they were talking about these autonomous drone swarms. Now that's hella scary.

Here we go

New generation of drones set to revolutionize warfare
Autonomous drones are being called the biggest thing in military technology since the nuclear bomb. David Martin reports.

One of the biggest revolutions over the past 15 years of war has been the rise of the drones -- remotely piloted vehicles that do everything from conduct air strikes to dismantle roadside bombs. Now, a new generation of drones is coming. Only this time they are autonomous -- able to operate on their own without humans controlling them from somewhere with a joy stick. Some autonomous machines are run by artificial intelligence which allows them to learn, getting better each time. It’s early in the revolution and no one knows exactly where it is headed, but the potential exists for all missions considered too dangerous or complex for humans to be turned over to autonomous machines that can make decisions faster and go in harm’s way without any fear. Think of it as the coming swarm, and if that sounds like the title of a sci-fi mini-series, well, stay tuned. As we’re about to show you, it’s already a military reality.

We are just too good at finding new ways of killing and destroying each other aren't we. Skynet here we come!
