When 2 teams have the same number of points, the team going through should be based on the result of the match between these 2 teams and NOT the NRR. Pakistan were the victims of the silly NRR rule in 2019 when they finished on the same points as the Kiwis but exited on NRR despite winning the encounter between the 2 teams at Edgbaston very easily. This rule must be changed. India would be out already if not for this rule :-)

I agree.

Also, the rule should be that if the two finalists end up with match being tied, then the team( if there is any) that has beaten both the finalists must be awarded with the World Cup Trophy instead of the two finalists.

:))):)))

The NRR is the fairest system IMO because it takes into account all the games.

NRR adds a bit of suspense and context to the final league games....otherwise there will be too many dead rubbers

Nice. I agree wholly with this idea.

No way....the trophy must always go to the team which brings in the most revenue...others should fight only for 2nd spot

NRR may add intrigue but it also adds scope for corruption and brings luck into it. India play last and will know what NRR they need to go through potentially. Is that right? If they end up on the same points, surely the most important factor is how well they did against each other? It's so obviously the fairest method.

Partially agree but that makes the other games irrelevant . And you are playing a tournament so you have to take account of all games

I think the Captain of the team finishing top should decide which team goes through in second place instead of using NRR ;-)

The solution for that is to play the last round of league games at same time for all teams in the group....as they do in football

Rules were laid out before the start of the tournament;

If OP does not know or got to know only yesterday, does not mean teams playing not know
I think they all get briefed about the rules and policies

We have suffered due to this stupid rule on the grandest stage. Should be changed after this tournament

if india go through on runrate NZ beat IND, IND beat Afg, Afg beats NZ, so who won the match between any 2 cant be used as all would have won against 1 of the other teams on the same points

No the 2 team result rule Is ridiculous.
Nrr is much fairer.
You aren't playing only vs the team you tied with points on.

Ignore these Pakistani fans lol they're really hurt 😂😂
Ind should field 4 spinners in the match against SCO and get them all out for 25 or 30 runs max...and chase it down in 2 or max 3 overs. That way they can improve their NRR and hope AFG beat NZ even though it will be an insane thing to happen.
