I am sorry but this is beyond a joke

One day night game before the Test matches against a side which even locals struggle to recognise

And then another one - the only one - against an opposition featuring Lord knows who

This is the sum total of our prep for the ODI series

Who is to blame for this?

Is the PCB so beholden to CA that they feel shy to ask for better or more practice or is it CA showing who's boss?

Imagine Australia coming to the UAE and being given some Grade 2 side to warm up against or maybe this is the new way forward?

It's just the way things are these days.

England didn't get a single warm up match before the India test series and so will Australia. It's upto the home boards to schedule matches to their advantage. For example, England played the Bangladesh series for acclimatizing in the subcontinent. I suppose subcontinent teams can look into playing in Ireland first before landing in England. Not much one can do in Australia I guess.

Now that Big Bash is much more important than before its harder to take players out from domestics to play some tour match

Well India did played Scotland , Ireland and South Africa in odi before 2007 successful tour of England.

With the Big Bash going on, I seriously doubt CSA would've played a top class team. However, I do think they could have had a better teams because all of these were unknowns! England on the other hand getting good practice playing an almost Indian side.

these kind of teams for like "Cricket Australia XI" are useless for tour matches, much better idea is to place touring team match against one of the domestic teams e.g. if Sheffield shield is going than one of the stronger state sides should be hosting the touring party... similarly if Big Bash is going on than one of the big bash sides .... in both cases the regional sides will put their best players in the match as it will give the players precious practice against International players...

The Big Bash sides would rather keep their players for Big Bash aka Shield players for Shield.

Even in the past alleged state XIs used to be borderline second XI.

It is a joke which nothing will be done about. Better to just take some players of our own to form two playing 11s.

I don't think that would be the case for Big bash sides at least... Yes they would be resting all their overseas signings, but nearly all other will be playing (with exception of players like Smith or Starc who have been playing nonstop Internationals) ... these teams would be much better than the one fielded today...

Why would a Big Bash team want to do that though?

Up to the touring boards to be creative IMO.

Touring England? Ask Ireland/Scotland/Netherlands for a couple of warm up games.

Touring Australia?? Ask Hong Kong,Papua New Guine (two sides who regularly play in Australia) to come over and play a warm up match.

Don't wanna do that? Fair enough the host board will sort you out with an U17 schools side.

Because players would be able to test their skills against an International side that may have some world class players as well. For domestic players, such an experience is invaluable. Also for once, the players would be playing without performance pressure.

But BBL teams don't care about developing players they only care about winning the Big Bash

To be perfectly honest the selected team is stronger than Hong Kong and PNG

Really? I'm not saying either of those sides are world beaters (though HK did reasonably well against some Bash sides last month) but having looked through the Aussies team all I see are 17 year olds, 1 Victoria player who averages 37, 1 29 year old who's never played Shield cricket and a plethora of 20 year olds with a handful of showings (none impressive) for U23 sides.

Maybe I'm missing somebody but I don't think its a stretch to say that HK anyway would do better than that.

How about the players and captain as well? How big is there desire to improve, compete, fight and to leave a positive impression of themselves? Imran Khan fought tooth and nail with the PCB to arrive in Australia 6-7 weeks in advance and to play as many practice matches as possible in the 1992 WC. Our players and captains sadly go through the motions as if it is just a 9-5 job for them and nothing else.

It's pathetic. I'm not sure who is responsible but if its the Aussies, the PCB should do the same to the Aussies next time they tour - send out a bunch of kids for their warm up match.

Pcb cant do the same for the opposition. UAE board could ask to play any team that comes over and PCB cant come in between the matter of two seperate boards.

Same for ireland and scotland.

To be honest, i think this is a big loss for australia. If they are fool enough not to give their players a chance against an international opposition then its their loss.

Sydney Grade cricket is a higher standard than PNG international team (which competes as a team in the very weak SA grade comp).

Let alone Sheffield Shield.

Technically speaking Australia is giving a chance to the highest rated youngsters in the country.

Jason Sangha is the youngest man to ever earn a NSW contract and Will Pucovski was the best player in the U19s

So England play two warm-ups against India A for a three-match ODI series, against several well-established domestic players.

Yet the best we can manage ahead of a five-match ODI series is one match against a side consisting of mostly 20-year-olds with little or no experience at FC level?

Second XI would have been a far improvement to the youth club team put on instead.

Just look at the team England faced for their warm up match, led by Dhoni and many other top players. That's the way it should be, not like bunch of kids played against Pakistan.

I really don't mind if pcb admit to it and say look this is the best they will give us but stop telling us that we are preparing well

Its got nothing to do with the PCB.

All on CA. England, South Africa, India etc get the same
