Police have charged a 25-year-old man with the murder of Kulsuma Akter, who was stabbed to death as she pushed her baby in a pram in Bradford.

Habibur Masum, from Burnley, was charged on Wednesday, after a four-day manhunt ended in his arrest early on Tuesday morning.

He is scheduled to appear at Bradford Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Four other men aged in their 20s were also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and drug offences.

The four men - all from the West Midlands area - were arrested in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire and are currently in police custody.

In a statement, West Yorkshire Police added that another 23-year-old man who arrested on Monday on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released on bail.

Mr Masum, of Leamington Avenue, has also been charged with possession of a bladed article.

Ms Akter, 27, was found seriously injured at about 15:21 BST on Saturday when officers were called to Westgate in the city centre. She was taken to hospital but later died. Her baby was not harmed in the attack.

Ms Akter's cousin, Aftab Miah, told the BBC earlier in the week that the family was devastated by her death.

He said she had been "polite and humble" and "made the people around her laugh".

"Her mum in Bangladesh, she's constantly crying," Mr Miah said.

Shaun Sigamoney from the CPS said prosecutors "authorised the charges following a review of a file of evidence from West Yorkshire Police".

"Our thoughts are with Kulsuma Akter's family at this time."

West Yorkshire Police has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) as it had prior contact with Ms Akter before she died.

Mr Masum was arrested in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, in the early hours of Tuesday.

Sisters raise £650k to help tackle global poverty

Three sisters who have raised more than £650,000 to help tackle global poverty say they are determined to continue their charity work.

Khadeejah, 8, Haziqah, 13 and Leya, 20, started fundraising four years ago to support the likes of water pump installations and provide thousands of people with hot meals, in countries including Pakistan and Lebanon.

From mosque bucket collections to university sales, the total raised by the trio from Bordesley Green, Birmingham, includes £120,000 during Ramadan this year.

"Once you see poverty, you can't go back to normal life, you've got to stay committed to help them," Leya said, referring to the trio known as Team H&K.

She added Pakistan, her family's home country, was "super-close" to their hearts.

The money Team H&K raises supports the charity Jigsaw, enabling its mission to create positive change around the world.

The team encourages people to donate through posts on their Instagram page, which is filled with videos of the work they carry out to keep donors up to date about how their money is being spent.

"The donors are so supportive, we provide videos of exactly what we do so people know where the money is going," Leya said.

Those living in Pakistan were suffering from the effects of climate change, inflation, food insecurity and poverty, she explained.

"I've seen videos of people crying because they were so happy [to receive aid], because they felt forgotten," she added.

Leya said fundraising keeps her going each day and makes her feel over the moon to provide support.

Their father Yuser not only balances his life at home and his job at Birmingham Airport, but also visits countries like Pakistan and Lebanon to distribute aid.

He also helps set up livelihood projects so people can start small businesses and support their families.

"That one smile on a family's face is everything, all those sleepless nights is 100% worth it," he said.

Team H&K's work will not stop there, as Yuser now has plans to visit Africa on his next deployment to help people on the continent.

The family said Eid would be time to celebrate what they had achieved during the appeal.

Team H&K has a Just Giving page that enables people to make donations.

Amidst so many tensions and conflicts in the world, these sisters are bringing about some positive change in it.

Mother who hid her baby in drawer for years jailed

A mother who kept her baby daughter hidden in a drawer for the first three years of her life has been jailed for seven years and six months for "extreme neglect".

The girl, who prosecutors said had "never known daylight or fresh air", was only discovered when a visitor to their house in Cheshire heard her crying.

To protect the girl, neither she nor members of her family can be identified.

The girl's mother, who admitted four charges of child cruelty at a previous hearing, was sentenced at Chester Crown Court.

Judge Steven Everett said the woman had "starved that little girl of any love, any proper affection, any proper attention, any interaction with others, a proper diet, much-needed medical attention

“An intelligent little girl who is now perhaps slowly coming to life, from what was almost a living death in that room," he added.

Stupid lady.

Punishment is too light. Should've been a harsher punishment.
