The many lives of Mohammad Sami

Yeah, he is very shy and clearly loses confidence in his own self. He needed someone like Imran to constantly back him.
He only got this from rashid at the start of his career and he looked world class under him.

However it all went downhill from the inzi era where containers like rao were preferred over him

Later on, Misbah preferred the much inferior 'fellow pathan' gul, while Waqar tried to settle his grudges since semi was sighted as the reason for his ouster in 2003

Not trying to be disrespectful here but Sami has a very bleak voice for a professional Athele. In addition to being an international fast bowler and a genuine Pakistani Quick the guy plays excellent Football (Soccer).

Is a natural athlete which is why he was n maybe still is so valuable in the field.
Only once did I see him unfit

Gul and Sami were supposed to support Akhtar after the retirement of the two W's. I think Sami lost his swing and more importantly his confidence after his initial 2-3 years. He had genuine speed with a natural effortless action and was not very injury prone either. The biggest loss of bowling talent IMO. Should have been Pakistan's Dale Steyn if he had the mental toughness. Sadly it was not to be.

Had Pakistan selectors persisted with him in ODI's instead of tests then things would have been different. He has always been decent in the shorter formats.

Unfortunately he is mentally fragile for test cricket and as a bowler you need patience and the ability to out think the batsmen.

Aside from his own weaknesses, he is a bit too naive and apolitical to conjure support amongst the dominating lobbies in the team management :malik

should be playing odi's instead of ehsan adil/bhatti/gul or even junaid, 28 avg after 85 is good enough i think .

Sami was a very poor and limited bowler. Could rarely get any seam or swing and relied on pure pace that worked occasionally but the very best tore him to shreds (e.g. Tendulkar, Sehwag, Dravid etc.)

A poor mans Shoaib Akhtar and has rightly been discarded...

Yes, very right. Certainly :bhatti, :ali,:sohail, :tanvir, :ugul, :junaid, :ehsan, :acheema r all better than him.
Why would one need a poor man's dhoaib akhtar when we have had a battery of quicks for the past 5 years who would have given the west indies' quartet if the 80's a good run for their money

Wouldn't mind seeing one more come back.

He is 34 now. Time's up. He had so much potential :-(

Sami and Yasir Hameed's failures were why I never hype any player anymore.

to be fair he could outswing and sometime even deliver inswingers at will. I am talking about swinging aspect not the direction which could be awry with him. And on flat tracks too (though swing has little to do with pitch)

Our current set of bowlers cant move the ball to save their lives.

cant we just give him one last chance even if he plays for 2 years only

Sohail Tanvir atleast had more variation than the one dimensional Sami. Gul and Junaid (atleast in their prime) could get reverse swing and seam.

The rest are rubbish though....

This still holds true today for Sami.

One of the most underrated limited overs bowlers. Glad he found a living through T20 leagues. He should have been in the pak limited overs sides of the past when we were struggling to find pace bowlers.

Pakistani pacer Muhammad Sami on Thursday encountered a car accident in Karachi, however, he remained unhurt in it, ARY NEWS reported.

The accident occurred near Nipa Chowrangi at University Road in Karachi when he was driving his vehicle. Muhammad Sami was shifted to a nearby hospital after the accident.

“I am unhurt, however, my car was damaged in the accident,” he said.

When he was playing at Isb united under Misbah, he was fantastic. Sami was one of those bowlers that need a proper captain to guide him and help him out. He was a good bowler.

During his last few years, Misbah utilized him well and he earned his call up in t20s under Afridi.
