After listening to many many years of cricket commentary, this will always stay with me

"Pakistan cricket at its best - one minute down, next minute up" : by Nasser Hussain

In fact, I can't even recall any other commentary.

What are your memorable ones ????

Oh beautifully bowled, wonderfully bowled, magnificent bowling!

I love it when Rameez reacts to a six, goosebumps and atmosphere!

“Ohh that’s a biggieeee”

What I meant was for a particular cricketing moment. Everyone would recall the context of the above commentary.

"In the air.... Sreesanth takes it. India are the world T20 champions"

"Dhoni finishes off in style. A magnificent hit into the crowd and India win the world cup after 28 years and the party started in the dressing room....."

"Tredwell misses, Dhoni misses but it doesn't matter. India win the champions trophy."

:ravi

When Ramiz said Sarfraz takes the catch it's all over Pakistan win - champions trophy final

Big man big game it's a leg bye who cares shahid Afridi fittingly hits the winning runs when pak won t20 World Cup

I've always found Danny Morrison this ones got an air hostess on it quite memorable as well

When Afridi hit the six off Ashwin and Ramiz said he's goes again he goes big and that's up in the air a six shahid Afridi you beauty

“England have won the World Cup by the barest of all margins”

Couldn’t agree more with you.

Some beautiful memories.

Boycotts "stick of rhubarb" and "my mum could hit it for six" are gems.

"into the crowd, six sixes in an over" shastri

Don't know who uses this quote but its really great "when he hits it, it stays hit"

One of my favourites:

"Jones! Bowden! ... Kasprowicz the man to go and Harmison has done it! Despair on the faces of the batsman and joy for every England player on the field!" - Richie Benaud, 2005 Ashes 2nd test Edgbaston.

"sunsunny-khaiz mauqabla" uttered by the great hassan jaleel in the context of many great matches. particularly relevant when said those words at the end of calcutta odi after salim malik's heroics.

He’s knocked him over with pace, real pace, straight through the England captain!

He’s done it. Understated Richie after the ball of the century

Subtract lewis from that list..wasim akram is on a hatrick

"wow wow wow" - Rambo

"Bowled'em" - Michael Holding

"Think we have have worked out which Pakistan has showed up today.... It's the one to be afraid off" - Nasir Hussain

"It doesn't matter he is gone the next ball Pakistan cricket at its best, one minute down next minute up" - Nasir Hussain

'Morning, everyone.'

'Don’t bother looking for that, let alone chasing it. That’s gone straight into the confectionary stall and out again.'

'Subtract Lewis from that list, Wasim Akram is on a hat-trick.'

'He's done it. Gatting has absolutely no idea what has happened to it ... he still doesn’t know!'

But my favourite one is of course:

'Jones!
.
.
Bowden!'

"This little man is the closest thing to Bradman there has ever been" - Tony Greig on Sachin Tendulkar during his desert storm innings in Sharjah, 1998.

I wonder how can anyone forget "Carlos Braithwaite, remember the name" as a neutral, it was an iconic piece of commentary. Ian Smith when Dhoni was run out in the WC was jubilant and it was some scene.

And then again, arguably the line that "defines" Pakistan cricket "One minute down, one minute up".

Ravi Shastri’s memorable line’s on commentary when a certain debutant 16 year old was hitting sixes on his way to 100 off 37 balls - “These are not hits, these are scud missiles” 😆

Laxmans got no idea how to play it Look how far back that stumps gone Its nearly impaled kamran akmal

Oh well bowled, Beautifully bowled, Wonderfully bowled, Brilliant bowling That is absolutely unreal

Again on the sweep is it going to go over his head Oh no way no no way You cannot do that ben stokes You cannot do that

Ian Smith during the world cup final was great. Also Ian Bishop at the world t20 final, "Carlos Braithwaite remember the name ".

Loved Benaud in the 1992 World Cup final when Wasim got Chris Lewis.

"Oh bowled him, its beautifuly bowled, clean bowled. Stumps all over the place, Wesim Akraam is on faya, these Pakistanis when they have one of these little spells Wesim Akraam inparticular, boy they are deadly dangerous"

Tony Craig RIP:(

I remember one from a couple of years ago by none other than Ramiz. I think it was Malik who hit a West Indies bowler for a big six in a T20I.

"Emrit, he's flying!"

Or how about Rameez with "nice shot from Babar Zaman". Or Rameez with "that wasn't a great shot from Fakhar Azam"

Oh well bowled, Beautifully bowled, Wonderfully bowled, Brilliant bowling That is absolutely unreal

THIS!!!! Only the great TG could have conjured this moment. The greatest cricket commie of all time

Ian Bishop's call in the T20 World Cup final was one for the ages.

Nasser knows how to nail the big moments as evident by how many quotes there are here. Another one from him:

"Cut away ! Cut away for four. The Ashes is alive because of one man and that's Benjamin Stokes."

“Cor, steady on!”

- the great Richie Benaud

<after Botham lost his balance and failed to vault the stumps> “He couldn’t get his leg over.”
- Jonathan Agnew, provoking a five minute on-air fit of giggles by Brian Johnston

One of my favourites:

"Jones! Bowden! ... Kasprowicz the man to go and Harmison has done it! Despair on the faces of the batsman and joy for every England player on the field!" - Richie Benaud, 2005 Ashes 2nd test Edgbaston.

Strewth, I remember. It was a Sunday morning. Lee and Kasprowicz had put on seventy for the last wicket and as the target go below ten runs I felt sick. I thought - this is horrible, the Ashes are gone again, they will never let us live this down....

The funny thing was that Kasper didn’t get a nick on it! But then again he had been plumb lbw twenty runs earlier and given not out so karma balanced out.

Or how about Rameez with "nice shot from Babar Zaman". Or Rameez with "that wasn't a great shot from Fakhar Azam"

I believe Rameez is a better commentator than he was a cricketer :D

These are some of the most memorable moments of cricket in my life. The first one in particular, I don't think I will ever forget the utter joy of that moment. Possibly the greatest day of Pakistani cricket - I know 92 is special but in our generation, that Champions Trophy final was the pinnacle.

"They're dancing in the aisles in Sharjah": the late great Tony Greg!

Late Lala Amarnath's expert comment on a Cricket match, "I think India can win this match, even Pakistan can win this match, or it could end in a draw"

All of the commentary on this page pales in comparison to Tony Greig calling Tendulkar's twin desert storms at Sharjah.

Greatest piece of commentary ever, and by far.

It sits at the highest peak of the biggest mountain of cricketing commentary. So good that can't even pick one quite from it. All of it is a treat to the ears!!!

Yeah, I can imagine. I didn't watch too much non-Pakistani games back then but I remember the buzz that this test (and the whole 2005 series for that matter) was generating. When I got around to watching the highlights, I felt the tension and drama as Australia were creeping ever so closer to their target and then the euphoria when England took that final wicket. Truly, one of the greatest test matches.

Were there no replays shown to see if Kasper got the edge at all? Or was it one of those "game's over, no point in checking" kinda deal?

Chris read ducks a slower ball Yorker from Chris cairns & gets bowled, Richie Benaud - O dear

2015 WC semifinal Newzealand vs south africa.
"South africa Get it wrong again. They are thrown outta worldcup.Hit again by luck, hit again by grant elliot.oh my words Whatta Game of cricket it was"

Babar zaman? Fakhar azam? @Saj_Pakpassion Is that you got it wrong or i am listening for the first time?

"Afridi - fittingly - with the winnings runs....Leg bye who cares" - Nasser Hussain and David Lloyd

"Pakistan cricket at its best - one minute down, next minute up" : by Nasser Hussain

"It beggars belief" Mark Nicholas when Afridi got out to Harbhajan in 2011

"This could be victory. It is. Pakistan win the World Cup. A magnificent performance:" Bill Lawry

"England have won the World Cup.. By the barest of margins. By the barest of all margins!" : Ian Smith

"Grant Elliot. Superman!!" : Ian Smith

No DRS then. Ump’s decision final.

"Cut away ! Cut away for four. The Ashes is alive because of one man and that's Benjamin Stokes."

I didn't like this one. Nass's commentary was pretty tame for an excellent moment like this.

Most people have only seen the Sky Sports version of this innings with Hussain and the inert Ponting finishing off in the last hour. I''d highly recommend the Channel 5 broadcast where Mark Nicholas is partnered with Vaughan for Stokes's final few runs, it's far more thrilling and very Tony Grieg-esque.

I'll see if I can upload that clip here.

This is the bit. Nicholas is the true heir to Tony Grieg's high octane style of commentary. Enjoy.

Aside from Nasir gem in CT final the one which i love is Rambo coomentating in Asia cup 2014 final
Afridi hitting six---- Shahid Afridi you beautyyyyy ..What a win
Pure emotions

Remember the name for Carlos still gives me some goosebumps.

And the ultimate one by Nasser, "Pakistan cricket at it's best, one minute down next minute up".

In my view, this was a fairly ordinary imitation of Greig or Lawry. Oohing, aahing and groaning doesn't necessarily make for great commentary. The horrendous Vaughan alongside adds even less value.

To be fair to Nicholas, the nature of the highlights programme on channel five didn't lend itself across for uninterrupted, natural commentary as the editing necessitated patching on bits later to suit the content. The consequence is that much of the commentary comes across stilted and, I daresay, a bit devoid of authenticity.

It's a matter of opinions, and for most people, Hussain and Ponting absolutely nailed that last hour on sky.

I don’t get the hate for Nicholas. He is personally one of my favorite commentators.

Perfect broadcast voice, brings great energy and the he frames his sentences are quite unique and dramatic. The only criticism is that at times, his commentary does not feel spontaneous. It seems that he has memorized lines and uses them when relevant.

Shortlist of one:

Johnners unable to speak for minutes after Aggers describing how Botham couldn’t quite step over the stumps in the August 1991 Oval Test v the West Indies:

“He just couldn’t quite get his leg over”.

Are you saying Nicholas did his commentary post-game and Ch5 dubbed it onto the highlights package instead of him calling it in real time? I really doubt that. I think Ch5 did call the whole game live but they released only the evening one hour show.

He would overdo it sometimes when his energy didn't complement the state of the match but I think he's matured a lot. But on this ocassion, with a tense last wicket stand in the Ashes .. he was perfect.

Most commentators, even the good ones, memorize one liners even though some proud ones won't admit it. Many have admitted it on podcasts recently.

Mark Nicholas is always the man to hype it up. Great commentator

Sachin's debut series against Pakistan also had some very intelligent and unbiased commentators. I was too young to have seen it live or know the commentators, but I have seen the youtube video.

Very good command of the English language and the game of cricket. And absolutely unbiased commentary. Dont get much of that these days.

Hopefully some Pakistani posters can throw light on the names of those commentators.

They tended to commentate on the play live, but if there was something the producer (Sunset & Vine) wanted to be edited, it could be done before (or occasionally while) the highlights show went on air.

Tony Greig during the entire lengths of Tendulkar's twin desert storms at Sharjah.

Greatest piece of commentary anywhere in the world and right up there with Jim Ross in WWE.

In 1999, half of Tendulkar's hype was Tony Greig alone :)) :))

Nothing like this - ever!

"The bowler's Holding, the batsman's Willey"

Brian Johnston

From World Cup 1992:

‘That’s a great catch, Aaqib Javed is the man under it and he is absolutely delighted. He is going to do a lap oh honour all by himself’ (David Gower)

Have a look at that, he has no idea whatsoever. (Bill Larry on Mushtaq Ahmed googly to Graeme Hick.

‘Inzamam-ul-Haq you beauty is what Javed will be saying’ Tony Grieg on Inzy sixes in the semis.

This sums up Pakistan's cricket. One minute up, next minute down

Big man, big match, it's a leg bye, who cares

Naseer Hussain: Pakistan cricket at it's best. One minute down, next minute up

Bill Lawry going nuts - WC Semis 1999....
Basically Bill Lawry at most exciting junctures...he's fun....
Tony Greig - the master of the hype - going Bonkers over Sachin in the Sharjah desert storm twin innings in 1998...
and once 'the QE 2 could turn around quicker' when Inzi did not turn around quickly enough to complete the 2nd run...
Richie benaud - the master of the understated....When Kapil hit 4 consecutive sixes at lords 1990 to save the follow on (24 were needed and kapil was with number 11-hirwani at other end) ' I suppose it's only logical, u need 24 to save the follow on, why not get it in 4 hits?!"...so casual -just like an elderly man walking his dog...:)

The commentator was Ravi Shastri , anyone else remember who was batting that sunny day? :)
