In your opinion who is the most underrated captain?

For me I will go with Mahela Jayawardene. He was very good tactically, led from the front, and did well with Sri Lanka in ICC tournaments as captain. I don't think he gets a lot of credit.

How about you guys?

Mushtaq Mohammed took Pakistan out of its defensive mentality and wrote the template for modern day Pakistani cricket (free flowing strokemakers, attack with fast bowling and legspin). He did well managing volatile personalities like Wasim Raja and Sarfraz Nawaz, while Imran Khan began to develop into a world class bowler under him.

He drew twice in Australia where he refused to allow the hosts intimidate us, and had it not been for partisan umpiring would've drawn in the Caribbean in 1977. There was a famous 1978/79 home series victory over India under Mushy that really helped cement the popularity of cricket amongst the masses.

Another one is Nasser Hussain because while Michael Vaughan gets credit for the 2005 Ashes win and Andrew Strauss took England to number one in test cricket - it was Nasser who really started the rebuilding process.

England beat West Indies for the first time in 31 years, and Nasser also led them to victories away in Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Mahela is also a good shout, a very tactically shrewd captain for Sri Lanka.
