Gary Linekar leave BBC MOTD over antisemitic insult row [Update@post#237]

Liberals crying false narrative.

https://taxdisputes.co.uk/2023/03/g...=In 2012, he was forced, his fair share of tax.

It's not the first time Gary has had a run in with HMRC:

"In 2012, he was forced to pay £4.9 million in back taxes after being found to have used a tax avoidance scheme. Lineker has stated that he regrets using the scheme and has since taken steps to ensure that he pays his fair share of tax."

Thought he could pull the same stunt.

Makes sense now, had he joined the ITV, he would have done so as an employee, and not a freelancer with IR35 excuses, which meant more taxes if working at ITV.

Ahhhh got to love the hypocritical Liberal.

:)

Have you just set up this website yourself or something, because it's so blatantly factually incorrect...

The £4.9m figure is from his current tax case with HMRC in the UK (which a simple Google will show you) which they've somehow associated with his property sale in Barbados from 2012.

His 2012 tax 'case' was regarding reducing his taxes in Barbados so had nothing to do with HMRC. Unlike this dodgy source states nowhere has he stated his regret for that situation because there would be no reason for him to. He literally used a scheme set up by the Barbados government to encourage foreign investment by reducing taxes due (in Barbados).

Once again, being paid as a freelancer through a partnership will INCREASE Lineker's tax bill. It's in his interest to be registered as an employee.

The massive U-Turn by Gary is all a stunt to indicate he is not an "employee" of the BBC, which means he avoids his IR35 tax bill for £5 million.

Realistically no court was ever going to be able to make him pay that tax bill anyway. HMRCs guidance is very clear that it's the companies responsibility to determine whether someone is a freelancer or an employee, not the freelancers/employees. Based on that and Lineker making no savings from being a freelancer, HMRCs attempts to get Lineker to pay the BBC/BTs potential NI bill if he should have been an employee will never be successful. Keep them coming...

Gary's pathetic fans never criticised his views on Qatar hosting the WC, in fact if he was a man of principle he would have refrained from hosting the WC with the BBC, as a freelancer, he had that freedom, but no, instead his liberal supporters are supporting him in avoiding tax!

Oh, we're back on to the repeating false facts and hoping people will take them as truth are we? Didn't take long to come full circle... A reminder again:

By being paid as a freelancer through a partnership Lineker would've paid more tax/NI than if he'd been classed as an employee. The only people saving on taxes/NI through this setup would be the BBC and BT.

Tim Davey backed down as he was being exposed. This is a man who DONATED thousands to the Tory Party, yet BBC want impartiality. :))

Gary is a clown for accepting government propaganda when it came to Qatar, he thought he now has a free whip but now has come back down to Earth.

Gary doesnt realise he is supporting Nazis in Ukraine .

BBC and celebs are clueless idiots.

When did Tim Davie have anything to do with the £800k loan? You wouldn't be making stuff up would you? That would be very out of character of course...

This is getting hilarious. Keep the false information coming, wouldn't want to ruin this impressive streak.

Sounds about right from PP's most deranged Trump supporter.

I think the majority of normal, sensible people rightly see that this was the BBC backing down and ultimately made to look silly

Yet one man stands alone spinning it further than any Murali delivery has spun before

Lineker won this without even breaking a sweat

But then again we are talking about someone that resorted to boasting about the number of Instagram followers Ronaldo has, so absurdity is clearly a specialist subject for him

My fav player and my fav person! Legend! Spot on as always.

I watched this yesterday, he is just to the point, and on point!

I love how he highlighted the difference in reporting/MSM between Ukrainian refugees and other refugees.

Brilliant take down.

I used to be big fan of Gary, Alan and Ian Wright but after their embarrassing words against Qatar while sat in their land , I cant take these as any sort of great human beings, great players for sure.

They should stick to talking about football, nothing else as it wont make a difference if they do.

Same camp as you. Gary was a sporting hero when I was growing up, but the moment he opened his mouth against Qatar hosting the WC, and then hosting the WC for the BBC with that abysmal and bias agenda drivin WC opening, I have lost all respect for him. If he had refused to host the WC on BBC, I would have respected him a tad more than I do now - which is zilch.

I agree that there coverage in Qatar was awful but that was clearly a BBC directive and I guess it fits his world view as well

Ultimately, for me it's not even about whether I agree with Lineker on this subject (as it happens I obviously do because the Tories are scumbags) but it's the principle of it. On his personal twitter he should be allowed to share his opinions, whatever they may be, as long as he doesn't do it whilst being on the BBC

Gary, Alan & the rest are nowhere near as intelligent as Digger. This man will always speak the truth even if it against the bandwagon ie BLM etc.

Many Ukrainians are far right, many with Nazi ideology, many are criminals etc but we are told we should take them in and also house them inside our houses! :))

Russia and the rest of the world are laughing at this country and rightfully so.

Also did Ian Wright say anything negative about Qatar during the World Cup? If he did then I missed it. I did see clips of him immersing himself into the Qatari culture, far more than most pundits did

If his tweet is still up and hasnt been taken down by twitter, there is no issue. The problem is Gary will pick and choose what he feels are human rights issues. 14k + were murdered in the Donbass but he still supports the Ukrainians , because this is the normal woke support which is seen as mandatory by the western world.

Its not a huge issue imo, MOTD isnt as watched as it once was but has exposed to many the BBC head is very pro-Tory.

He was one of the bigger hypocrites. Calling out Qatar but then wanting to immerse himself in their culture.

Its the DM but quotes are correct.

'You know people have DIED building those stadiums': Ian Wright says he feels 'very conflicted' being at the World Cup because 'lives have been destroyed' amid Qatar's human rights scandal - as he insists workers' families 'deserve justice'

You know what I find remarkable about Barnes? When he speaks, he doesn't stutter, slow down, or pause, you know why? The easiest thing to remember is the truth!

Gary has turned out to be a mercanary Liberal, he doesn't care what message he is promoting as long as he has the opportunity to swindle HMRC out of tax, he will offer his freelance services to the highest bidder in exchange to trumpet their respective agenda.

Whether it is Tories or Labour, BBC will push the government narrative one way or another, because the BBC is owned by the state.

Barnes if more educated than those 3 and is very articulate.

BBC needs to gone! No more licence fee after 2027 but people shouldnt be forced go pay, yet they call this country a democracy.

BBC should have been dismantled the day it was revealed the BBC surpressed a damning report into Jimmy Savelle! And it wasn't the first time!

The fact that BBC provided, endorsed, and ratified a platform for mercenaries like Gary, even puts the likes of RT/FOX/Chinese media to shame.

Make no mistake about it, BBC is now the government mouthpiece. Funded and managed by the government!

For those of you who are unaware, the Tories have played a blinder.

The news was the Lockdown Files (Government whatsapp messages during Covid that put the Tories to shame), this story was gaining traction and then deemed dangerous, so what happened next? A tweet from Gary totally changes the news cycle and focus from the Lockdown files.

BBC didn't remove Gary per se for posting his political nonsense, they saw an opportunity, and invoked the classic switch and bait move - and it worked.

This is how the MSM works, controlled by the Government, who control the public message.

And all the Liberals crying over Gary should've been interested in the Lockdown Files, but no thread. Unsurprising, the MSM's wish is their command!

To add the CIA/US are now openely saying Covid came from a Lab. UK forced people into imprisonment with their extreme lockdowns, destoryed lives, mental health and businesses but yes lets worry about some sports presenter.

The sheep are easily led to any pen. To be fully honest, I have no sympathy for people with such mentality, following what they are told to follow. I never adhered to single virus or lockdown law. People were walking around with masks, not visiting their own mothers and scared to come out of their houses.

Covid was and still a hot topic even on PP, all those arguments from pro vaxxers, those who believed the MSM, are slowely being falsified, and not just by the CIA, but by our very own Tory government and the Whatsapp messages leak.

I am shocked why there is no thread on the Lockdown Files, but I can guess why. It was the Daily Telegraph reporting on the Lockdown Files, which sits behind a paywall, meanwhile free BBC news simply did not cover the files, instead focused on the journalist who broke an NDA.

Funny how Gary did not rip the Tories a new one on Twitter over the Lockdown Files, which exposed the Tory government failings during Covid, AND revealed how the Tory polices lead to unnecessary deaths nationwide, but no, Gary found the policy language used by the HS more interesting than the unwarranted deaths in UK during Covid caused by our Government.

So it seems that BBC told him to tweet and criticise Qatar during the World Cup but didn't want him to tweet and criticise the Government.

Gary was helping with the governments propaganda on lockdowns. A quote.

"The people who are most against lockdowns are the people that do the most to ensure the lockdowns endure."

He would look a fool now to accept the truth but a man of principles would!

Gisllene Maxwell gave her first live interview since being in jail. Yet never made the mainstream news. :))

So it seems that BBC told him to tweet and criticise Qatar during the World Cup but didn't want him to tweet and criticise the Government.

It could be a huge diversion tactic by the Gov and BBC.

Basically Gary is a government shill.

He is the type of bloke that would criticise Qatar on hosting the WC, but will happily accept Qatari money invested into his beloved Leicester City.

As for BBC have a litany of examples of diversion tactics - Jimmy Savelle, Chillcot Report, SAS killing innocent civilians in Afghanistan, the list goes on.

Love hearing John Barnes. Though I think some posters are missing the bit of this where he's explicitly supporting and backing Lineker and his comments. :))

He's literally saying that he and Lineker see it the same way on this refugee crisis, so if you're agreeing with Barnes then...

Sky Sports News understands Lineker has also received a direct private apology, which was not included in the BBC's statement.

Err… he agrees with Lineker. You did hear that bit, right?

You didnt read correctly...again.

I never stated I disagree with Gary, I was pointing out BBC hypocrisy which Barnes also did.

Why is there no fuss and language similar used for white skinned Ukrainians? Because this nation has a large racist underbelly problem now. Remember the western media reporters, many of them stated 'they are like us' 'they are civilised like us' for Ukrainians but for browns and blacks it was 'they are criminals' etc.

Here listen to the great man again. He owns another closet racist.

Andrew Castle was lost for words, and he had to cut the interview short because Barnes had truly nailed him to a crucifix.

He couldnt answer the question as to why he took Ukranians refugees and not others say from Syria etc. He first claimed he doesnt know much but later stated he does know a lot. Castle should be honest and say he prefers white refugees, even though Ukrainians are at war because of their corrupt government and a proxy war.

I wonder if Ukranians arrive on boats what would be their fate?

Ukrainians are pre-approved refugees, so they can arrive by Train, Plane, or even a Car if they wanted to, but yes if they arrived even by boat, they would be rescued, and granted refugee status in the UK - no questions asked.

Any other refugee from war torn countries such as Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan - which were bombed by the UK - totally different set of rules, no entry, let them drown!

It is sickening, and these Woke Radical Liberals cannot see the woods from the trees, and their discrimination (white is right) only proves what I have said time and time again, Liberalism is the new face of fascism.

Not a single one of the radical liberals, including Gary, would ever change their profile images to Iraqi, Syrian, Afghanistan flags, as for standing in solidarity? Forget it.

I really did not believe the UK was a racist nation, but now I am convinced it is, but the irony is, it's not the right wing who are racist, it is the liberal left.

Its sad to see how the UK has turned. You are correct, its not right but the so called liberal left who are showing their underhanded racism. Gary tweeted against Corbyn but was allowed to do so. As long as you support the elites who own the governments you will be fine.

One would have thought the so caring British nation which spend billions on bombing others into democracy, saving them from brutal rulers would firstly take those people in. Remember the huh ha about women in Afghanistan , yet they dont care to bring them over.

Nobody with a brain takes the west propaganda other than what it is. Thankfully we have now a man who is giving their propaganda, sanctions and proxy war a good hiding.

Not a single Liberal supporting Gary has taken in a refugee, not a single one, including those on PP.

Gary criticised Corbyn because he was allowed to because Corbyn was a threat, the Labour party also supported Gary because we all know how the media and political elite hated Corbyn, because he stood up to the elite establishment with honour, values, and principles. This is why the corrupt BBC, the fascist Liberals, and the government could not stand the fact he won the Labour leadership contest twice, and the second time with a higher mandate, and NOW the same Liberals are calling for the same policies Corbyn was pushing!

Gary also criticised Qatar, how dare he, then earns money by hosting the WC on the BBC, bartered his so called concerns for the GBP. Again, the BBC allowed him to do so, because Gary is in fact a paid government employee shill. He was reprimanded because he criticised his paymasters - the state controlled and funded BBC.

I used to have doubts post 2016 when Radical Liberalism sweeped the UK, but since the Ukraine war, and the clear cut racism and fascism displayed by Liberals, I am now convinced, like I said, that there is an underbelly of racism in the UK, and the war in Ukraine exposed this.

Liberalism is the greatest threat to the existence of the UK.

Thank you Putin for exposing the gutter racists in the UK, you have removed all doubt in my mind!

I read correctly that you stated that you disagree with him twice: you called him a clown, and then criticised his stance on COVID.

Of course the rhetoric regarding brown refugees is racist. Which is why Lineker compared it to the language of thirties Germany. The Tories have been stirring this up for years, with three Asian Home Secretaries!

lol Was Barnes mentioning Covid? Obviously referring to this subject.

Ill write more simple english. I agree with Gary's general theme but he is a hypocrite, which Barnes mentioned without his name.

Tbf you are also very pro-Ukraine but Iraqis is not an important issue for you. What does this say?

Gary Lineker has challenged Twitter and Elon Musk over a threatening message sent to his son in the wake of his row with the BBC.

The presenter, reinstated as host of Match Of The Day on Monday, tweeted a screenshot of a private message sent from a user, which described his son, George, as a “mug” and said he needed to be “burned at the stake” for defending his father.

TalkTV

-------------------

Well well well, a true Liberal fascist, Gary champions free speech, that is until his son who went public, recieves vitriol, and now Gary has gone crying to Elon Musk!

Come on Gary, tell the world you are about to leave Twitter! I bet he will not, after all its the platform he relies on to promote his nonsense under the guise of 'free speech'

You reap what you sow.

Secular liberalism is the greatest threat to humanity. One reason , it wants to break the family structure and secondly it wants to support conflicts against huge powers like China and Russia, which will only end in bloody red tears.

Social media now lamenting Gary and asking him does he believe in free speech or not? Moreover, users are stating when tweets stating Putin should die are acceptable (wanting some to die), then why does Gary have a problem with a tweet directed at his son in the same vain?

Gary is not gaining any sympathy now.

Own goal galore!

Someone can quite easily and reasonably believe you should be able to criticise the government on social media but not be allowed to advocate for murder on it.

See I do read your posts, better than you read them it seems.

Tbf you are also very pro-Ukraine but Iraqis is not an important issue for you. What does this say?

Is this an oblique accusation of racism?

You know what I think - I have said repeatedly that as UK helped bust up Iraq we should take some refugees, and we have taken, either directly or via Syria. But the hard right government are not letting any in. Turn your fire on them, especially their Asians who are playing up to white racism, not on leftists and liberals like me who are trying hard to replace them with decent humane politicians and dial back the racism to heel our society.

This place has become more and more toxic of late. It’s getting personal and nasty. I think I’ll step away again.

I've always wondered Robert, what is the motivation behind entering debates with them and responding to their deranged views?

Lockdowns are not Covid.

John Barnes was making a good point. Those who cry over Ukranians never do for Iraqis or Syrians, its interesting the reasons behind it.

Secular liberalism is the greatest threat to humanity. One reason , it wants to break the family structure and secondly it wants to support conflicts against huge powers like China and Russia, which will only end in bloody red tears.

Whether it is Secular, Radical, Woke, Fanatical, Fascist - Liberalism - ultimately Liberalism as an ideology is the single greatest threat to humanity.

These liberals have made a debate impossible. Mention immigration/Brexit, they call you a racist. Criticise Covid, they call you an anti-vaxxer, mention support for Putin, and they want you out of this country. Everything I have mentioned is not just observable in the real world, but on PP too.

Liberals will only debate if they are not challenged and if one supports their views, why? Simply because they lack the capacity for critical thinking, and cannot think objectively, this is why they resort to labels.

The very notion of liberalism is freedom, and with this comes war, the freedom to kill innocent people for the sake of glory, recognition, and imperialism.

You know why Liberalism want to break the family structure of values? Because they have no family which they find solace in, jealously. Likewise if they do not find peace, they will resort to violence to destroy any semblance of peace, especially in other nations, again jealousy. When they attack democracy and cry foul, it is because they cannot stomach the winning side celebrating, jealousy. This list goes on.

Gary is the epitome of Liberalism, and frankly should be made an example of now that he cannot accept the right to someone else's frees speech on Twitter. Again, a fascist who will happily diss other cultures and values, but has a problem when the boot is on the other foot. In typical Liberal fashion, he has gone crying, this time to Elon Musk for help.

Lockdowns are not Covid.

John Barnes was making a good point. Those who cry over Ukranians never do for Iraqis or Syrians, its interesting the reasons behind it.

The reasons are obvious, Iraqis, Syrians, and Afghanistanis are neither white nor European, but brown and majority are Muslim.

Do not let the liberal semantic evasions deceive you!

This place has become more and more toxic of late. It’s getting personal and nasty. I think I’ll step away again.

Come on Robert, its a discussion. Of course you're not the EDL mate lol. It was to get your view as to why some choose Ukranians and not others.

The reasons are obvious, Iraqis, Syrians, and Afghanistanis are neither white nor European, but brown and majority are Muslim.

Do not let the liberal semantic evasions deceive you!

There are some great families of white background who have taken in many refugees from Afghanistan or other places but sadly a minority now.

This is a great story of Adnan and cricket if you've missed it. However im not sure Adnan is 16 but the family are very kind , may they be rewarded for their kindness.

Gary is an intelligent man expressing his private views. As he says the UK takes a very few refugee's compared to many European countries. Only thing is that with the UK being a very small island those economic migrants posing as genuine ones arriving on dingy boats plays in to the hands of white nationalists.

The government has to find a way to end that while welcoming genuine ones escaping war zones. Instead he seems to be keen on bringing in more Indian's.

Everyone picks and chooses their human rights issues. I didn't agree with Gary's views about the World Cup in Qatar, but I do agree with the views expressed about the language used re refugees. I don't need to agree with every single view with every person living in the UK, for me he's always been a basically decent bloke so I backed him on this one over fudge brownie Suella.

Did Lineker take back his words or apologise for comparing the Tories to Nazis? It was a pretty big slur so you would think if it was a serious matter the BBC would have sacked him if they don't need him. They asked him to apologise and he told them to get stuffed, so then they went grovelling to get him on board, effectively telling Suella she can do one.

A victory for the real people of Britain, and a slap in the face for Farage and co.

This is what it comes down to for me.

It’s a huge win for Lineker.

Gary Lineker thought he had a "special agreement" with the BBC's director general to tweet about refugees and immigration, his agent has said.

In a piece in the New Statesman, Jon Holmes has described the crisis talks held with BBC bosses during last week's stand-off.

He said he warned them that suspending Lineker could be damaging, hours before a staff walk-out began.

The BBC apologised for the disruption and will review its social media rules.

On last week's row, Mr Holmes said: "Gary Lineker, with whom I've worked since 1980, had tweeted about the policy, reiterating his support for refugees.

"Gary takes a passionate interest in refugees and immigration and, as he saw it, had a special agreement with Tim Davie, the BBC's director general, to tweet about these issues."

He said social media guidelines for some BBC staff were "a bit vague", but said his client "assiduously avoids" appearing on political programmes.

Mr Holmes said Lineker asked him to "sort it out" when the row first erupted, and "initial contact with various BBC staff hadn't produced a result".

Lineker was then suspended over the tweet, in which he called the government's new asylum policy "immeasurably cruel" and said the language used around it was "not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the 30s".

His suspension sparked a boycott by presenters which severely impacted football coverage for two days.

The BBC confirmed it had asked Lineker to step back from his TV duties in a statement last Friday.

"We have never said that Gary should be an opinion-free zone, or that he can't have a view on issues that matter to him, but we have said that he should keep well away from taking sides on party political issues or political controversies," the statement read.

The fact Gary 'thought' he had special agreements tells you he never wanted to adhere to the social media guidelines. Typical.

Gary has really exposed himself.

Gary Lineker returns to BBC for first time as Alan Shearer issues heartfelt apology

Gary Lineker has returned to work with the BBC for the first time since he was axed from Match of the Day for his comments about the government's asylum policy on social media.

The 62-year-old was back on the BBC screens for Manchester City's clash against Burnley in the FA Cup quarter-finals alongside Micah Richards and Alan Shearer. At the start of the show, Shearer said: "I just need to clear up and wanted to say how upset we were for the audience that missed out last weekend.

"It was a really difficult situation for everyone concerned and through no fault of their own some really great people in TV and radio were put in an impossible situation and that wasn’t fair so it’s good to get back to some sort of normality and be talking about football again."

Lineker added: "Absolutely, I echo those sentiments." It comes a week after he was removed from BBC's coverage of MOTD last Saturday after he refused to apologise for a tweet, in which he compared language around the Government's small boats programme to that used in Nazi Germany in the 1930s.

Come on Robert, its a discussion. Of course you're not the EDL mate lol. It was to get your view as to why some choose Ukranians and not others.

Thanks, but this is where I take my leave as the toxicity is making me feel more and more sad.

I’m glad that you and I eventually developed some mutual respect.

I wish you and your family well.

Gary must have missed the lockdown files since he now cares so much about covid.

You defended nuking Japan to win a war Robert. I don't think toxic can be used in a relevant context unless we consider the Japs as vermin.

Gary Lineker has waded into the row over the appointment of BBC chair Richard Sharp just weeks after he was suspended by the broadcaster for speaking out against the government.

Richard Sharp resigned on Friday after a report found he breached the public appointments code when he failed to declare two conflicts of interest during his appointment.

It comes after the Tory donor helped arrange a meeting for Boris Johnson to meet with someone who could give him a £800,000 personal loan.

He also told the then-prime minister in advance that he wanted the job – and the appointment panel was told he was the “only” candidate supported by ministers.

His comments come after he was taken off air by the broadcaster in March after posting a tweet which sparked an impartiality row that prompted the BBC to launch an independent review of its social media guidance for freelancers.

Lineker later returned to his Match Of The Day presenting role following a boycott by a slew of top on-air talent.

In a statement following Mr Sharp’s resignation, the BBC Board insisted the now-former chair was “a person of integrity”.

The statement reads: “Richard has been a real advocate for the BBC, its mission, and why the Corporation is a priceless asset for the country, at home and abroad.

“He has always had the impartiality of the BBC and a desire to see the organisation thrive at the forefront of his work as chairman.

“We understand that the UK government is moving swiftly to begin the process of appointing a new Chairman of the BBC, in line with the terms of the BBC’s Charter.”

Tim Davie, the director-general of the BBC, added: “On behalf of the BBC Executive, I would like to thank Richard for his service to the BBC and the drive and intellect he brought to his time as chairman. Working with him over the last two years has been rewarding and Richard has made a significant contribution to the transformation and success of the BBC.”

Culture secretary Lucy Powell said Mr Sharp will remain in his position until June 2023.

She told the outgoing chairman: “I know that you are held in high regard by the BBC board.

“You have clearly demonstrated your commitment to public service and I especially applaud the work you did during the pandemic. Your decision to step down in the wider interests of the corporation is further testament to that commitment.

“Certainty and stability for the corporation are clearly a shared priority. In this context, I have spoken to the board and they have proposed that you stay in place until the next board meeting on 27 June 2023 whilst an acting chair is appointed in line with the Charter.”

High-profile presenters should be allowed to express views on issues and policies but stop short of political campaigning, a new BBC report says.

New rules have been published for BBC flagship presenters following a row over Gary Lineker's social media posts.

It comes after a review into BBC social media guidelines was published by former ITN boss John Hardie.

Lineker responded on X, formerly Twitter, by saying the new rules were "all very sensible".

The new rules apply to presenters of flagship programmes outside news and current affairs, who will have "a particular responsibility to respect the BBC's impartiality, because of their profile on the BBC".

Those who work in BBC news and current affairs are already subject to stricter rules around impartiality when using social media.

The flagship programmes in the report include Match of the Day, which Lineker presents, plus The Apprentice with Alan Sugar.

Gary Lineker in new impartiality row after sharing post accusing Israel of ‘textbook genocide’

Gary Lineker has sparked a new impartiality row after sharing an interview with an Israeli academic describing the situation in Gaza as “textbook genocide”.

The Match of the Day presenter reposted a video of journalist Owen Jones speaking with Raz Segal, an associate professor of Holocaust and genocide studies at Stockton University, New Jersey.

In the clip, Segal – who has an established career discussing Israeli history – told Jones the raids and violence taking place in Gaza was a “clearly articulated” case of genocide.

“It’s articulated throughout Israeli media and society and politics now, and anyone who follows Hebrew language sources is exposed to shocking, shocking language by members of parliament, by journalists, on social media, in public spaces, calling to annihilate Gaza, to destroy Gaza, to flatten Gaza, to kill everyone,” Segal explained.

“Because the intent is expressed so explicitly, so directly... in such unashamed ways and it’s continued to be expressed in this way, then I do think that what we’re seeing in front of our eyes is a textbook case of genocide.”

On Tuesday, Lineker shared Jones’s post of the interview on X/Twitter, adding the caption: “Worth 13 minutes of anyone’s time.”

In response to the football commentator’s endorsement of the video, social media users have been split on whether it is appropriate for an employee of the impartial public-funded broadcaster to express comment on the ongoing conflict between the Middle Eastern territories.

One X user wrote: “BBC’s Lineker endorses video in which Israel is accused of ‘textbook genocide’. The taxpayer shouldn’t be forced to pay for this level of ignorance. Lineker needs to get down from his self-appointed pedestal.”

But another commenter claimed that Lineker was “right” to share the video, writing: “@GaryLineker is right... People should definitely listen to the professor and learn from an expert why the abomination taking place in Gaza is a ‘textbook GENOCIDE’.”

The Independent has reached out to Lineker’s representative. The BBC declined to comment.

Lineker was previously embroiled in a debate over social media use in March. The host called out the then-home secretary Suella Braverman for her comments comparing migrant crossings to an “invasion” and claiming that the UK is being “overwhelmed”.

“Good heavens, this is beyond awful,” Lineker wrote in response to the video of Braverman speaking about small boat crossings.

Replying to the sports broadcaster, another X/Twitter user described his comment as “out of order”, adding that it was “easy to pontificate when it doesn’t affect you”.

Lineker responded: “There is no huge influx. We take far fewer refugees than other major European countries.

“This is just an immeasurably cruel policy directed at the most vulnerable people in language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the 30s, and I’m out of order?”

Gary Lineker in fresh row after reposting call to ban Israel from football

Gary Lineker finds himself in hot water once again over a controversial tweet in which he appeared to back calls for Israel to be banned from international football due to the war in Gaza.

The Match of the Day presenter was criticised by MPs and the Jewish community for retweeting a post by the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic & Cultural Boycott of Israel (BDS) on Saturday.

The post included a statement from the Palestinian Football Association, which called for Israel to be banned from international sporting bodies over its “genocidal attacks on Palestinian life”.

The Campaign Against Antisemitism accused Mr Lineker, 63, of failing to speak out against antisemitism while supporting Palestinians.

“Gary Lineker has a lot to say about a lot of things, but antisemitism does not appear to be one of them,” a spokesman for the group told The Daily Telegraph.

“At a time of record levels of racism against Jews, not a peep. But he has found the time to amplify a call to suspend the world’s only Jewish state from international sports. His priorities are clear.”

Andrew Percy, a prominent Jewish Tory MP, was among several Conservatives to criticise the former England footballer international.

"Gary Lineker is an ill-informed, ignorant commentator on the Middle East,” he said.

“The BDS movement [to boycott Israel] is a racist, anti-Semitic campaign and nobody who receives taxpayers’ money working in the BBC should be endorsing a campaign that is widely understood to promote Jew hate.”

Stephen Crabb, parliamentary chairman of the Conservative Friends of Israel, said: “This a deeply inappropriate tweet for any BBC figure to endorse and especially for someone of Lineker’s prominence.

"The BDS movement is riddled with antisemitism from top to bottom and deepens the divisions in our own society.

“Given all the problematic questions that have been raised previously about BBC bias during the Gaza conflict, they must not allow high-profile presenters to freelance on these incredibly sensitive issues.”

Mr Lineker has a history of causing controversy on the social media platform.

Last month Grant Shapps, the defence minister, said Mr Lineker should stick to football after he urged the government to scrap its plan to deport asylum seekers and migrants to Rwanda.

A BBC spokesperson said that individuals should be “civil”, adding: “We discuss issues that arise with presenters as necessary.”

Earlier in the year, Mr Lineker was at the centre of a BBC impartiality row after voicing criticism of the same government policy.

He was briefly asked by the broadcaster to take a step back from Match Of The Day but returned after fellow pundits boycotted various BBC sports shows in solidarity.

The scandal led to the BBC strengthening social media guidelines for staff on issues of impartiality and civility.

Lineker done the smart thing here

==

BBC Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker has removed a post he shared on social media that called for Israel to be banned from international football due to it reportedly being misinterpreted.

Daily Mail

Gary Lineker has claimed that he received threats after reposting and then deleting a post on X that called for Israel to be banned from sporting events.

The Match of the Day presenter was widely criticised for sharing the post by the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel - but Lineker’s camp said he had misread it initially before undoing his repost.

In a wide-ranging interview with the Guardian, Lineker said he “received threats. But it’s not about me. I am not the victim here.”

Lineker says he has reduced the amount of time he spends on X and described the online discussion around the Israel-Hamas war as “so toxic” and said the sight of so many innocent children being killed as making him “feel sick.”
He said: “Everybody I talk to, every single person I know, is going: ‘What? What is happening?’ But the minute you open your mouth – well, not my mouth, but the minute I tweet a little bit – it’s so toxic.

“If you lean to one side or the other, the levels of attack are extraordinary. How could it be controversial to want peace? I just don’t understand it. You don’t need to be Islamophobic to condemn Hamas, or antisemitic to condemn Israel. But at the moment it’s just awful. Awful.”

The former England and Leicester City striker was almost sacked by the BBC last year because of a backlash to a post he made about then home secretary Suella Braverman, comparing her rhetoric around immigration to 1930s Germany.

That led to Match of the Day being aired without any commentators or pundits as employees rowed in behind the host, who earns £1.35m per year from the corporation as a freelancer, before the issue was resolved following high-level talks and Lineker was reinstated.

In the Guardian interview Lineker also claimed that sections of the media was “weirdly, oddly obsessed with trying to do me”. He added that certain outlets were “trying to like, put me away. They take everything out of context. Deliberately. It’s almost like a game for them to try to destroy me in some way. It’s very odd.”

He is spending an increasing amount of time working on podcasts, via his Goalhanger producton company, and said he was enjoying the ability to consider issues in a long-form, more nuanced fashion. “They can go into things in depth. Most of my Twitter posts now are trailing Match of the Day or my podcasts.”

The BBC has confirmed that Match of the Day host Gary Lineker is to step down from the flagship football show at the end of this season, but will host BBC Sport’s coverage of the 2026 World Cup

He will also front the BBC's coverage of the FA Cup 2025/2026.

"The BBC and Gary Lineker have agreed in principle a contract extension through to the 2026 World Cup," the BBC said, while confirming his Match of the Day tenure was ending.

Lineker said: “I’m delighted to continue my long association with BBC Sport and would like to thank all those who made this happen.”

Gary Lineker expected to leave the BBC

Gary Lineker is set to leave the BBC with an announcement expected on Monday.

Speculation is mounting the 64-year-old will step down after he presents his final Match of the Day next weekend.

Lineker, listed as the highest-paid BBC presenter, had been due to remain at the forefront of the BBC's coverage of next season's FA Cup and the World Cup in 2026, despite previously announcing he will leave Match of the Day at the end of this season.

But last week he had to apologise after sharing a social media post about Zionism that included an illustration of a rat, historically used as an antisemitic insult.

Gary Lineker has been vocal recently against Israel's barbaric conduct in Gaza - however he's learned freedom of speech exists for every topic except the ideology underpinning the creation of Israel. Criticise that and find yourself on the cancellation list.

Michael Vaughan is still used by BBC despite once tweeting that Muslims should check on other Muslims to see whether they are extremists or not.

Seems BBC have a lower bar for antisemitism than Islamophobia.

Gary Lineker, the BBC's highest-paid presenter, will leave his role at the corporation on Sunday after his final episode of Match of the Day.

His early departure comes after he shared a social media post about Zionism last week that included an illustration of a rat, historically used as an antisemitic insult.

Lineker and the BBC previously agreed he would step down from MOTD and continue to front the FA Cup and the 2026 World Cup – but he will now leave for good on Sunday.

In a statement at midday, the former England striker apologised for sharing the post. "I recognise the error and upset that I caused," he said.

He added that working at the BBC had been "a pleasure and a huge privilege" - but stepping back now "feels like the responsible course of action".

He's basically had to resign for speaking the truth!

Hypocrisy is spreading like a wildfire in so called democracies

Lineker had a platform and voice that hurt zionists but unfortunately carelessness gave them an opportunity to attack him and they had him sacked. Such a shame
