There is a feeling of inferiority amongst some posters just because the likes of Faf Du Plessis, Moen Ali, Sunil Narine, Thisara Perera, Andre Russel and co decided to opt for the BPL rather than registering themselves for the PSL draft, that the BPL is doing better than the PSL.

I decided to investigate further to question the merits of this claim

The BPL did not happen in 2014 because of controversies surrounding the BPL with regards to outstanding payments to Foreign Players and Staff which FICA even reported. The BPL did not happen in 2021 because of Covid. That is two seasons which were abandoned. I don't think any such issues or concerns have been highlighted by FICA with regards to payment concerns in the PSL.

According to Cricinfo, Local Players in the BPL are paid b/w $6,000 to $77,700 and overeas players earn b/w $20,000 to $75,000. These are figures from Cricinfo.

In the PSL platinum players earn b/w $130,000-175,000. Diamond Players earn b/w $60,000-75,000, Gold Players earn b/w $40,000-$50,000, Silver players earn b/w $15,000-$25,000, Supplementary players earn $50,000 and Emerging players earn $7,500.

BCB sold their broadcast rights for 6 years to Ghazi TV from 2014 to 2020 for $20 million, they recently have sold their rights for the period 2021 to 2023 for $19 million. I can't find the exact Broadcast rights for the BPL on the internet but i question if it is going to be worth more than the rights of Bangladesh Cricket team.

Maybe someone can correct me if i am wrong but i doubt BPL is doing better than the PSL given the above points i have mentioned. Keep in mind the PSL has not enjoyed a single uninterrupted full home season yet.

What is this obsession with comparing PSL to BPL/BBL/IPL etc. ?
Is PSL covering the requirements of Pakistan cricket and local Pakistan cricketers.
If yes, then rest is immaterial. Do not bother about what goes on in other leagues.

IPl has set huge standards of T20 league that everything else just pales in comparison to it. So it doesn't even matter if BBL is better than PSL or PSL is better than BPL or if everyone is better than CPL.

I honestly don’t care which league is better, as long as the PSL continues to be a success then I’m happy.

However, I’m sure 99% of us would rather have the likes of Dre Rus, Moeen Ali, Faf, Narine and Perrera in the PSL over some of the unknown county players.

I just found out that BLP is going on right now. This is good for Bangladeshi fans.I don’t care about BPL or IPL.There is nothing special about these leagues so my advice is to follow your own leagues and not worry about others.

i highly doubt tht players who are on their down would want to play PSL ... theory but lets see

1) B.Macallum .. came in , was a huge failure
2) A B D..... Big big big big big big name... complete failure apart from 1-2 games maybe
3) Dr Russle.... always failed
4) Narien had success ... so dont know y he didnt come in
5) Faf... looked like a club level cricketer last time he play PSL (keep in mind Faf is one of my fav players and personally dont think anyone in recent time (apart from big 5) played more beautifuly than Faf.. but he failed
6) Gayle failed
7) M.Ali failed.. might not have been picked in platinum

overall... PSL is not good for players on the down... bcz PSL might not have anything but it has pace ... not many can handle it

The international players who have opted to play in the BPL instead of the PSL may hope to receive a higher compensation due to placement in higher tiers etc. Frankly, I can't think of any other reason, but it would have been great to have them here.

Maybe these players got placed in higher tiers in the BPL and got wind in advance that the PSL would not put them in platinum this year. These players had flopped in the PSL when picked

The only reason those players are playing in the BPL is because one franchise with a lot of money decided to sign them up long before the PSL draft even took place by offering them better deals than what they would get in the PSL. Most of the teams in the BPL have substandard squads with substandard foreign players.

That said, these are still players who I would have liked to see in the PSL and who have played in the PSL in the past.

And something like this can be avoided in the future by allowing some flexibility in the draft process and allowing franchises to approach players individually. The current Diamond/Gold/Platinum categories are not a great idea either because they leave alot of great players out who might be interested in playing the tournament too.

I don’t know why people are so concerned about some overseas players opting to play in BPL instead of PSL.It will make no difference to PSL.Only a few were performed well. Most of them were a failure and did nothing. Finally they are free to play any league be it for financial or other reasons.

It’s a similar mix of players in all honesty. The whole tournament will need to be played to judge the standards.

A lot of bowling will depend on spinners.

Also mix scores so far.

BPL does better or not is irrelevant, I have yet to see bangladesh team benefiting from BPL or any good players coming up besides Mehdi Hassan

they cant win anything when it matters.

They recently won a Test in NZ where India and Pakistan were whitewashed.

First of all, BPL needs to use DRS. Absence of DRS is hurting the tournament big time. Also IMHO, setting the maximum overseas players in the XI to 3 has decreased the excitement for me.

All-rounder Mehedi Hasan Miraz plunged the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League T20 and his team Chattogram Challengers into controversy. Mehedi on Sunday decided to not play further in the tournament and move out from the team citing unjustified decisions by the team management and its Chief Executive Officer [CEO] Syed Yasir Alam.

The situation between Miraz and Chattogram Challengers was triggered after the team management had taken the captaincy role away from Miraz on Saturday – three hours ahead of their game against Sylhet Sunrisers at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chittagong.

It has been claimed that Chattogram Challengers team management removed Miraz from the captaincy after they found the cricketer not following the team strategy on the field. It has also been reported Chattogram Challengers head coach Paul Nixon before leaving the team for personal reasons is said to have informed the team management against Miraz.

However, rumors are – there are more reasons behind the chaos and a majority are sensing possible ill motive of Chattogram Challengers with its CEO Yasir in the center of the controversy.

Miraz had decided to leave the team hotel and travel back to Dhaka on Saturday evening. The Chattogram Challengers team management however did not allow Miraz to leave the hotel and requested him for a meeting to bring an end to the confusion.

The BPL Governing Council intervened in the matter and had asked the parties to come to a solution. Later Chattogram Challengers and Miraz ended the situation on a happy note, termed the situation as ‘misunderstanding’ and now looks forward to the remainder of the tournament.

“I simply do not have the mentality to play [for this team]. The way they have taken the decision [is not right]. There may be a communication gap between us. The coach has reported against me to the team owners,” said Miraz to the media on Saturday.

“Three hours before the game they informed me that I will not captain the team. I do not have any issue with that. I asked them the reason for this decision. I told them that they could have informed me a bit earlier if they had any reservation, I do not need the captaincy but this is disrespect of a cricketer. I believe the manager and CEO [Yasir] took the decision this way,” the Bangladesh national team cricketer added.

Miraz speaking to the media earlier in the day had said he has informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board [BCB] of the issue. The cricketer had also said he doesn’t have any complain against the Chattogram Challengers owners but that he will not further play for the team if CEO Yasir doesn’t leave. Miraz however moved from his decision following the mutual settlement with the team.

“I do not have any complain against the owners of the team. They are nice person to be honest. I heard the coach [Paul] before leaving said a lot against me. He complained that I play selfish cricket but when we spoke on phone, he said nothing like that. But while being removed from the captaincy, I am told that the decision has been backed by the coach,” Miraz explained.

“He [CEO] always remains busy. I will not be part of the team if he remains. I will now only play if Yasir leaves. The statement he is has given to the media are all lies. He is a big culprit,” he added.

BPL GC member secretary IH Mallick speaking to Dhaka Tribune termed the incident unfortunate and expects the players and the teams to remain in harmony and successfully complete the tournament.

“Such incidents are unfortunate and give a bad name to the tournament. I was initially informed [on Sunday] that Miraz wants to leave because her mother is ill. Later I saw in the media that the issue is something else. We had requested them [Miraz and Chattogram Challengers] to discuss and clear the misunderstanding,” said BCB director and BPL GC member secretary IH Mallick to Dhaka Tribune on Sunday.

The end to the situation between Miraz and his team later raised another concern – of the cricketer breaching the Covid-19 bio-safety bubble. Miraz on the day had first gone out of the hotel in public to travel to Dhaka and then attended the media briefing with room full of journalists in the hotel. The journalists, obviously, are not part of the bio-bubble.

Both Miraz and Chattogram Challengers owner KM Rifatuzzaman during the media briefing could not come with an answer to the bio-bubble breach.

Chattogram Challengers are scheduled to face Comilla Victorians on Monday in the afternoon game at the ZACS.

PSL is better than BPL in terms of quality. No doubt. Always was and still is.

Anyway, the payment issue is happening from one team I believe. Other teams are okay for now. BPL may take legal action against that team (Durbar Rajshahi).

BPL is a mess , always having payment issues , shaddy agents and player bargains

Yes. I have never watched a single BPL game. Quality isn't good.

Then again, I don't watch franchise cricket normally. I may watch a bit of BBL once in a while.
