Asif Ali is not going to fire every match and play a blinder. It was unacceptable to leave 24 runs needed of 2 overs, had it not been for Afghanistan's inexperience under pressure and the lack of proper pace options, we might have had a different result today.

The batsmen in the middle overs need to bat at a better strike rate against spin and avoid playing too many dot balls.

Negatives in Pakistan’s wins

The drawback of winning is that you turn a blind eye to your weaknesses. Its all well and good when you are winning but we really need to address the following issues before the semi final:

1. We still play very slow in the power play, not taking any advantage of field restrictions.
2. Hassan Ali is clearly the weak link in our bowling attack.
3. Hafeez’s batting form is a concern. Hafeez is neither a power hitter, nor a nudger, as such his role at number 4 really confuses me.

How can we fix the above? Should we test water by trying M Wasim, Haider & M Nawaz against Scotland & Namibia? I feel our team management often behave like scaredy cats, not wanting to try anything new even against a minnow.

Bring in M Wasim for the Namibia and Scotland games and Nawaz for Hafeez. No better time to try them and will also rest some of the guys which is important given the weird scheduling - Pakistan has finished their 3rd game and some teams yet to play their second.

feel bad for hasan ali
after india game he mustve gone in to NZ game thinking I got rolled in the first game need to bring it back and then he gets rolled again
Then he mustve gone into Afg game thinking I need to redeem myself and gets rolled again

Add to that

What Hafeez did not bowl?

Why always go with the same pattern. We could have shuffle the batting order. Babar could have come at 3 and Zaman could have open.

Why played emotionally rather than sensibly.

It's that last over that's dooming him. His first 3 were for 17 runs which is excellent.

Need to try Haider for Hafeez and Dhani for Hassan Ali. If they perform any better than keep them for semifinal. But most likely they will keep this winning XI and which will bite them hard in semi.

Dhani can't come into the side unless someone gets injured and approval is given by the ICC technical committee

Hafeez
24 T20 world cup innings and he has 1 fifty, averages 19 with a strikerate of 106

Hasan Ali has been key in Pakistans wins in the last year or so, now he's getting outshone by Shaheen and Haris. Teams are targeting him

Lastly Pakistan havent had to defend a total yet

Then bring in wasim jnr instead of Dhani. But plz no more Hassan ali, he will screw us big time.

Big negative is all the matches have been similar we haven’t been tested in a high scoring game yet.
If that happens in the semi final we don’t want to be caught out Malik Hafeez haven’t shown they can step up if it happens.

what is wrong with you lot?? trying to find negatives after your team dismisses 3 very strong opponents and clinched semi final spot just 1 week into the tournament. have you all gone mad??? have i stumbled into a masochist forum?

Nothing negative but Pakistan should try to make some changes for remaining games..
Must test bench strength of Haider,Waseem, Nawaz and Dahani in place of Hafeez, Shadab, Imad and Hasan Ali..
In all three matches Pakistan chased down the target, it will be interesting to see them batting first.

Very good points raised but sadly Babar doesn't have enough courage to make any changes to winning combination

We haven't batted first yet;
need o know how our bowlers perform in dew (which makes games totally one sided)

Hafeez and Hasan Ali are two big set backs. They need to fire

Moreover the graph of performance is getting down with every match , even though we are winning just look at the way we are winning , we won comprehensively against India , did good/ok ish against Nz and a close game against Afg , also the level of opposition was getting low with every match with Ind being the best and Aft being the last still our performance graph has getting low with every game. Now we must thrash in the remaining games to boost our confidence for the semis

Hasan Ali has bagged the unwanted record for most no-balls bowled in T20 internationals

He bowled his 10th no-ball today!

I worry if the last over onslaught doesn't work and if we have scored enough runs in the first half of the innings.

Leaving it all to the last few overs has worked, but it's dangerous.

Being too slow in the first power play. This will cost Pakistan dearly in big and important matches. We need to realise being aggressive is the only way in T20 cricket.

I think Hasan should be used in middle overs and if hes doing well use him again later ... But if he leaks runs and takes no wicket better have a plan B ready for some other player to bowl the remaining 3 overs of his..

Too slow in the opening overs compared to other semi finalists. Should have tried the likes of Mohammed Wasim and other subs on the bench versus Scotland.

The batting in the power play overs is a big weakness. I would recommend opening with Fakhar and shifting Babar to #3, so he can slog in the power play overs.

Another weakness is that Hassan is not a very good bowler. He is the weakest link. I wish Pakistan had another specialist bowler on the bench.

The absence of Cornered Tigers pressure concerns me. Things have been too good to be true. Normally whenever Pakistan has won major world tournaments, it has come under the back of serious pressure where after a major disappointing defeat and serious threat of elimination coupled with massive abuse, criticism from ex players, analysts, reporters, fans the team had no choice but to win its remaining games to win till the end.

Being slow in the power play is the obvious one but not using the 6th and 7th bowling option under these conditions is an opportunity missed. If Malik and Hafeez can squeeze out 3/4 overs between them then theres less pressure on Hassan Ali and Haris Rauf. Malik and Hafeez need to start throwing their doosras in the semi final, we've been carrying them for far too long it's about time they paid up.

I get your point and am personally pessimistic about our chances, but if Pak cricket is to progress, they have to get rid of this obsession of being the underdog

Don’t mind 70-0 after 10 overs , we need to stick to what we do best , solid start then all out attack , our best bet is one of the openers staying beyond 10 overs & against the Aussies quicks I feel we will end up with 50 in the power play 🤞🏼

1. Tuktuk in powerplay and score 35-40 where others score over 70
2. Rizwan waste too many balls
3. Babar slows down after 40
4. Hasan Ali is getting away bowling rubbish but Warner/Finch/Maxwell will murder him
5. Playing fast bowlers against SENA teams in spinning tracks where spin is their main weakness.
6. Lack of power hitters apart from hit/miss Asif.
7. Slows down where mount pressure.
8. We are yet to loose a match; not that our performance is that great.

Absolutely agree.

This isn't just limited to the Cricket team either. It's something I have noticed that seems to have unfortunately embedded into our cultural norms itself - complacency. Obviously this is a very small sample size of my own personal experience, but many of my South Asian friends seem to underachieve (relative to their intrinsic talents) in studies, work, etc. just because they become complacent of their circumstances. I think we as an entire populace need to pride ourselves on consistency/discipline and be comfortable as being a dominant player in any facet of life, rather than always strive for the underdog story.

Yes, Pakistan needs a new mentality for victories. Can't live in 1992 forever.

No balls, no balls, no balls. Everything else mentioned in this thread is neither here nor there. But the no balls, if we don't sort it, are going to result in a match changing moment that knocks us out or loses us the final.

openers in first 6 overs are the weakest link; wish Pakistan had aggressive openers
