Now that the remaining three fixtures for Pakistan in the ongoing T20 World Cup are against some of the weaker sides of the tournament, I was wondering as to how many times Pakistan have made it to the semi-final of a global without losing a single match. From what I remember, the ICC Champions Trophy 2004 and 2009 were the only such occasions from my lifetime, although it has to be kept in mind that those tournaments were conducted almost in the knock-out format. I wonder how it went for the team in the World Cups from before the 1992 edition?

As a footnote, I may add that I nowhere mean to say that Afghanistan do not possess a threat for Pakistan. However, I do believe that it has to be the last threat that they´ll face on their way to achieving what this thread is all about.

I am more worried about Afghanistan than I was for the India match so I hope this thread doesn't become a jinx thread.

Oh´ God! Never thought about it that way! I hope that it does not, man, as otherwise I´m doomed! The thought didn´t cross my mind at all!

Let's hope we win against Afghanistan first and we cannot get complacent against Scotland too as they've some players who plays English County

Expecting us to lose today against Afghanistan, though we will be fine against Scotland and Namibia.

I'm just hoping India get knocked out. Wouldn't mind losing to afghanistan as I back them to beat NZ and considering their net rr is so high after the scotland match they would likely qualify over India even if India beats them.

This was no jinx thread, fellows. This thread was all about hope, optimism, determination, motivation, and whatever other adjectives that you can think of. :afridi

I expect Pakistan to beat Scotland and Namibia, no disrespect to them. Yeah, this would be very un-Pakistan like. Also, given the pre-tournament chaos, the team has exceeded all expectations thus far.

Beating India was a major catalyst first up and Asif Ali finally stepping up has potentially enabled this 100% unbeaten road to the semis.

Seems England afraid of meeting Pak!

Done, fulfilled, behind them! This was no jinx thread, fellows. :akhtar

Congratulations to PCT and it’s supporters , PCT was the most dominant team in WC super 12.

It was a far easier group, but I'll take it.

Obviously we had minnows like India and Namibia in our group but still an excellent achievement to go to the semis unbeaten.

So, guys, I just went through the results from the past and this IS THE FIRST TIME that Pakistan have qualified for the semi-final of a WORLD CUP without losing a single match. So the stat is confirmed now.

As has also been referred to in the opening post, the ICC Champions Trophy editions are not taken into count here because in that tournament, this has happened once at least, and that was in 2004. The 2009 edition is mistakenly mentioned in my opening post because even there, Pakistan did lose to Australia by two wickets or so, a match which was quite a thriller. So, pardon that mistake, everyone.

I believe we were unbeaten in the wc of 1987 until the semis.

Pakistan lost their last preliminary match against West Indies ,then lost by 18 runs in that semi finals to Australia. Steve Waugh hit 18 runs of the final over bowled by Salim Jaffar. Then Rameez Raja was runout in the first over for 1.

2009 is the one Gul hauls them back in.

It was actually Rana who brought Pakistan back in to the game when Aus were cruising.

I thought that it was a combined effort from all the bowlers. I remember Asif bowling an unbelievable ball to dismiss one of the Australian batsmen. It was a thriller of the highest order, a match which Pakistan should´ve won, in my opinion, having had them eight down with 19 still to get.

Above all, it was a match which India desperately wanted Pakistan to win in order to go through to the semi-finals. Not to be.... :najam

That was the power of the billion hearts .. thankfully they lost, valiantly :p

There was another match from the World T20 2012 which India either required Australia to win or Pakistan to win big. In the end, neither happened due to Hussey´s innings which specially targeted the net run-rate instead of the target set. Pakistan did get early wickets to troll India, mind you. :Dah

Yeah I remember that game. There was another India game running parallel that was inconsequential and I think Kohli got a 100 as a youngsta beauty.

Rana was amazing - the greatest display of slower-ball bowling I've ever seen :srt
