During this series itself, we saw Haris and Rizwan score two tons. Their was a big difference in their hunger and desire to score runs. They wanted to prove themselves and make their spot in the WC.

In contrast, Umar Akmal had no real desire in batting or fielding. He appeared like someone satisfied with what he has achieved and is just their to teach the other babies how to play. He looks like someone that thinks he is higher than this level. Their is no desire to score runs and prove himself.

Having said all this, everyone including Umar Akmal knows he has more chances of being selected for the wc than Rizwan or abid ali. Because he is “aggressive”.

Lol, stop calling for his head.

He has a superstar mentality because he decided to attend a concert?

I'm sure Junaids can give you all some context.

He's our only hope as someone who can take apart bowling attacks. There's nobody else.

Also, there are other players who have been failing for a long time who deserve your hate, not the guy trying to make a comeback. Genius.

Let's start with the useless Sarfraz and Malik. Also what has Fakhar done with a non-stop run?

Avoid hating the guy that much.

Its not superstar mentality , he is a low on IQ. Talented but below average intelligence. His twitter account is hilarious.

Umar Akmal in terms of ability is no different to sohaib maqsood. Why did we not give maqsood as many chances? He atleast had a better work ethic and didnt have serious discipline issues.

Maqsood is nowhere near. What has he ever done in his career?

Nothing, ever. Just a hack.

Ever since Umar came to the scene people have been finding flaws and criticizing him for one reason or other. Different strokes for different blokes i guess. I guess when things don’t go your way everyone wants to pull you down further. Pak cricket has dealt with much difficult characters like Shoaib, Asia etc. I guess when you are good, your tantrums will be tolerated otherwise be ready for fire.

He is bound to have superstar mentality with a magnificent average of 34.34 in ODIs.

Most Pakistan fans want him to do well for the sake of Pakistan as we all feel he can be that dynamic player we require.

The sad thing is that he is a wasted talent who has done himself no favours. It’s not even about attending a concert , it’s his mentality and approach Which leaves a lot to be desired and that’s why he ends up in trouble.

He was given 5 matches to stake a claim. That’s a lot of matches considering he has played over 100 games . But unfortunately his game has shown no improvement.

He has no mentality at all.

I wouldn't be surprised if they find that his hippocampus is actually smaller than the normal person.

You can support him but if you expect him to be the savior or to somehow magically change his game and his team's fortunes, its time to have your left prefrontal, temporal and parietal cortex examined as well.

One thing is for sure, his amygdala would be quite small. As he has no fear of destroying his career.

Unfortunately all this is true.

In reality, Umar Akmal’s career stalled because he played under weak captains whom he did not fear or respect.

Misbah, who has taken his place in the team.

Yousuf, who had zero leadership skills.

Sarfraz, who leads like a Sergeant Major, yelling at his men even though he is an imposter in Rizwan’s rightful position.

You might be right.

Like Ronaldo.

Like Maradona.

Like Warner.

Like Gazza.

Like Botham.

It doesn’t matter. Tendulkar was as thick as a brick, but he scored an awful lot of runs.

Pakistan don’t need a role model. They need a batsman who can take good bowling apart.

Umar Akmal hasn't done anything meaningful in a Pakistan shirt since 2014.

I'm fed up of having to talk about him because there's nothing new to discuss. Unless he undergoes a mid-30s turnaround like a few other Pakistani batsmen, he's finished

Well said, this OP has derived this "superstar mentality" merely from attending a concert.

Umar Akmal threads are getting boring now.

The match situation, team is chasing 260, required 80 run off 69 balls

In walks the most talented and unlucky Pakistani batsmen in existence Umar Akmal at no 5, takes no time to settle in by awkwardly mistiming a few balls for a couple of singles, makes that signature grieving expression when he swings and misses... now it's time to turn it on, big swings to cow corner, in the air, drops safely.. phew...Umar makes that face again and takes deep breaths and soldiers on, try again next ball, another big swing to cow corner, fielder under it.. and out!

Umar Akmal make his signature crying facial expressions and walks back to the pavilion regaining his breath, pondering over his bad fortunes and more importantly which of his jeans and sunglasses will go with his red moschino shirt for the evening out on the town later that night.

Pretty much this. You can also see something wrong with him the way his expressions are, the way he stands and his mindless social media acts. He's got a low IQ.

Team needs 80 runs from 90 balls. Umar comes in and throws his wicket.

But its not his fault, its misbahs.

Btw for someone who goes aroubd calling himself an englishman you take alot of interest in our cricket.

So what if he has interest in our cricket, why does it bother you?

I'm happy he has interest. Gives insight that many of our fans completely miss. And treasure of knowledge. Please stick to talking about cricket.

You've lost the plot.

What a silly thing to say.

Anyway, I don't think its a case of superstar mentality but more of a case of lack of commitment and drive.

He's just not willing to put in the hard yards, be it his fitness or his skills.

Anyone else in his place would've looked at this series as a once in a lifetime chance to revive a dying career. I was shocked to see Umar Akmal put absolutely no price at all on his wicket and continuing on his merry ways.

He just comes across as a lazy individual who lacks motivation.

A domestic match but the Dr has been humbled today did exactly that.

So what if he continue scoring like this. Is he going to the World Cup? I hope so

It's the sense of privelege and entitlement that people from a certain part of Pakistan usually show, his troublemaker local twin Ahmad Shehzad seems to be mending his ways.

Its certainly somewhat easier for him to get into the team as compared to Fawad Alam. Who is the complete opposite of Akmal but somehow never manages to get a chance (in test cricket).

Plus the guarantee of political backing and financial stability.

It is also the lack of introspection within oneself.

The attitude that there is nothing wrong with me, but everything wrong with the people around me.

:)) This is my post of the week nomination. Brilliant!

Why Pak have Grant Flower as batting coach when you have Miandad available?. He could teach Umar how to rotate strike, play in gaps, take calculated risks. It is embarrasing to see Umar getting out everytime trying to slog towards cow corner. Its very simple. Just make him play few dot balls, he starts showing anxiety and fear on his face abd tries to slog and get out. I think he should see a sports psycologist. He has abundance of batting talent but clearly lacks grey cells. Psycologist can help him understand himself better.

I demand this post be reposted in EVERY single Umar Akmal thread. In fact, I'll try and make sure I paste it at every opportunity.

Post of the week. Post of the year.

Is that the same match where Sohail Tanvir scored 68? bowling standards must be really testing.

An in form Tanvir is a better option than Faheem but he's older now unlikely he'll be selected he's capable of changing matches with bat and ball but too inconsistent.

One of his post match conference quotes after his hundred:

“Gully bhai is a good yorker”

You keep on telling players that they are so "talented" it ends up going to their head. Umar needs to go to the back of the line before he gets another chance to be selected.

And he attends Akon's concert as if he will understand anything

Lmao, tbh that’s just RnB, he can get jiggy with the beat and atmosphere even though all the lyrics will go over his head.

Akon lyrics are no Bohemian Rhapsody level anyway, mostly just about partying, drinking and other related things.

Pakistan don’t need a role model. They need a batsman who can take good bowling apart.

All of them compensated by having single minded determination to succeed in their field. If they had performed like Akmal their teams would have kicked them out forever a long time ago

So wait.

You are telling me that a domestic performance is all he has to do, to humble me?

Surely I must be humbled everyday when the likes of Awais Zia, Shahzaib and other sloggers thrash the domestic bowlers around the park for fun.

Off course, as soon as the bowling standards dipped, Umar Akmal created a name for himself.
