Saleem Malik speaking to the media today

"I have played more than a 100 Tests for Pakistan so I didn't expect to be treated in this way as I had to wait so long today; Why have they made this media cell? Since yesterday tickers had been on TV saying I would come today so didn't they know that I was to come here?"

"The answer that PCB are asking from me is about a letter that came from ICC about 20 years ago; They have nothing else as you can see that they wouldn't even let me in (PCB offices); What this shows is that PCB has so much 'buguz' (ill will) for me; They have made a story about me because if this was from the ICC, then they would have written a letter to me as well during these 20 years"

"I give you the example of Mohammad Azharuddin, he was an employee of the BCCI but today, he is the President of the Hyderabad Cricket Association and was also a member of the parliament"

"Its my request to him (PM Imran Khan) that he should pay some attention to our cricket; I would ask him to remember why he is PM today as he used his cricket popularity and to look at our cricket as it has gone down; The type of people who are running our cricket have no idea about cricket"

"If I have been cleared by the court, then why should I ask for forgiveness? Asking for forgiveness would only happen if I was involved in it [wrongdoing]"

"The only 2 people who are saying [that enough has happened with Malik] and they are Saqlain and Inzi; When you speak of Rashid Latif, then Ata ur Rehman has already told the world about him ..

"About Rashid Latif, we know what Ata ur Rehman has said; Latif got Ata to do an affi davit and then made a cassette [audio] and presented it to the judge; He was supposedly a good friend of Ata, got him to write stuff about Wasim and then presented cassette to the judge about him"

"Rashid used to say that Altaf Hussain (MQM) is like my father - why doesnt he say that now?"

"Javed Miandad brought Latif into cricket but he has backstabbed him the most"

"What's Latif done for cricket? He's found so many jobs after making false accusations against people - surely there are ten thousand other players who have played more cricket than him; He has been able to find jobs after accusing people; He's had a job in PTV for last 10 years"

"The real person who corrupted the Pakistan team was this guy [Latif]; He made sacrificial goats out of the whole team so he could become captain"

"He still threatens so many journalists that your body will be found in a sack so they are afraid of saying anything against him"

"So you must all see who was the guy who spoilt the Pakistan team; Khalid Mehmood asked him to come in front of him but he didn't do that"

Okay keep this guy away from our cricket for the rest of his life.

What a scumbag. Still to this day acting as if he did nothing wrong. Show some humility you chor after selling your country as captain.

:))), rashid latif threatning journalist?

Oh bhai, its the other way around in Pakistan.

The soap opera continues.

Ex players once again washing their dirty linen in public.

wow all these years hes been quiet and now malik has found his voice and more mud slinging and accusations

if hes not willing to be sincere and regretful and is going to be like this then theres nothing more left to say or do

"I give you the example of Mohammad Azharuddin, he was an employee of the BCCI but today, he is the President of the Hyderabad Cricket Association and was also a member of the parliament"

Its clear, Saleem Malik expecting PCB role

I would imagine Latif will sue Malik - or should do.

This is probably the most ironic statement a Pakistan cricketer has made. wasn't Latif one of the first guys to stand up to the fixers?

This guy has lost his mind.

And he has no class. Rashid Latif’s mother died yesterday and he couldn’t even wait for a few days to do his personal drama

Yes and is why Saleem Malik essentially got caught.

This guy has lost his mind.

Wow didn't know that.

Shane Warne's nickname for Salim was bang on.

This is why Pakistan cricket will never flourish.

The country is filled with awful thinkers like him.

The News of the World caught Saleem Malik ON VIDEO offering to fix for money. Not no-balls. Results.

And he still has absolutely zero remorse.

He had a tremendous batting brain. One of the most intelligent batsmen Pakistan has ever produced.

If we can welcome back other fixers and celebrate Wasim Akram who was not only sultan of swing but sultan of match-fixing as well, then I don’t see why we shouldn’t utilize Saleem Malik, who is one of the very, very few people in the country (players, ex-players, fans) who actually understand the game.

The problem is that as long as you do not adopt a zero-tolerance policy and pick and choice which fixer to support, you will have these fixers complaining about mistreatment.

But Pakistan continues to do wonders in the batting department and has left bowlers all over the world wondering how to get them out, so I suppose such a majestic batting nation does not need the services of one of its smartest batsmen ever.

LAHORE: Former captain Salim Malik on Tuesday lashed out at ex-Pakistan skipper Rashid Latif for threatening his way into the national team during his playing days and also blasted the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for getting his (Malik’s) entry into the Gaddafi Stadium stalled as he arrived to submit a reply to an inquiry against him.

Salim waited for 12 minutes to get into the Gaddafi Stadium but then got very aggressive, perhaps for the first time since he has been facing the match-fixing allegations, despite having been cleared by the court of law in 2008.

“I have played 100 Test matches for Pakistan but I waited at the main gate of the Gaddafi Stadium to get in to submit my reply for another inquiry against me. It showed how biased the PCB’s management is against me as it is reluctant to give me an access into the stadium,” Salim said.

“Since Monday it has been in the electronic media that I will submit my second reply to the PCB on Tuesday, but the staff at the main gate has no information as it took 12 minutes to get me in after completing the process,” he complained.

When asked that now former well known cricketers like Inzamam-ul-Haq, Rashid Latif, Basit Ali and Aaqib Javed have also given their statements in his support that he (Salim) has faced enough punishment and he should be given a chance to return to the fold, Salim retorted aggressively: ”Only Inzamam and Saqlain Mushtaq supported me from the heart but others are not saying with that kind of spirit.”

He then resorted to an onslaught against Rashid.

“In a recent development Ata-ur-Rehman has also spoken about Rashid’s character as he told people that Rashid has a track record of making cassettes of others and threatening them,” said Salim.

“Rashid convinced Ata to write an affidavit against Wasim Akram and then he also prepared a cassette of Ata’s statement in which he said some harsh words against the judicial commission head retired Justice Malik Qayyum and then presented it to the commission.”

Salim said that Rashid had the habit of threatening all the cricketers because of his affiliation with Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and called the party’s foun*der Altaf Hussain as his father.

“Why is Rashid not calling Altaf Hussain his father anymore?” he asked. “I have not spoken for 20 years on this [topic] but enough is enough. My children have grown up and I need to remove their doubts about my character,” said Salim.

While the judicial commission banned Salim for life in 2000, he was later cleared in the court. How*ever, he isn’t cleared in the books of the PCB, which has star*ted another case against him from 2013, based on the ICC transcripts allegedly made in 2000 in London.

Salim alleged that all the conspiracy against the Pakistan team was master-minded by Rashid to secure captaincy.

“Former PCB chairman Khalid Mahmood and now Ata have challenged Rashid to give answers to their questions but he is reluctant to face them,” he said. “Javed Mia*n*dad brought Rashid in cricket but Rashid stabbed him [Miandad] in the back several times. The real corrupt person was Rashid, who just for captaincy sacrificed the entire Pakistan team.”

Salim asked Prime Minister Imran Khan, his former skipper, and Supreme Court to take notice of the PCB’s affairs.

“Imran Khan should give some attention to PCB’s affairs as it is cricket which played a great role in making him who he is today. The people who are handling the affairs of the PCB have no knowledge about cricket whatsoever,” he alleged.

About his reply, Salim said he had made some changes in his new reply and if the PCB would not clear him from the allegation he had several options including moving High Court against the PCB to get justice.

He said he had not been shown any cassettes as evidence in the ICC transcript case. “They are handing over me just a write-up of allegations without any evidence. If the ICC sent any letter to the PCB in this case it [ICC] should have also written to me.”

Salim said he had confessed to the charges against him in 2014 but said that it was on the insistence of PCB Chief Operating Officer Subhan Ahmed and its legal adviser Taffazul Rizvi. “They told me that is was a formality which would get me cleared from the ICC,” he said. “But then they made my confession public.”

Again — this is a troll comment. Being perverse and contrary for no reason. Do you really want Saleem Malik back in the PCB? Why on earth would any fan of Pakistan cricket want that? It just makes no sense. Even if your ACTUAL views are not exactly everyone’s cup of tea, if they were sincerely expressed no one would mind. But this is just disingenuousness and insincerity on your part in order to get attention.

It is as bad as the time you wanted to slam the PCB for organizing the BD series in Pakistan. Can’t even remember your reasons for it. Do you want to remind us of your ironclad logic there so we get an idea of how your views are always perverse and contrary?

The right message from the wrong messenger. Latif destroyed his credibility with that cheating episode against Bangladesh. There is no smoke without fire. Atta ur Rehman's statements are spot on.

A general note to Salim Malik saab, if you are trying to make someone take a soft lenient stand against you and to give you a favorable verdict, you do not lambast them in public 24/7

This pass the buck culture of Pak culture will never die. No point in digging up old skeletons now when the truth is many Pak players were involved in such match fixing and cheating activities. Get over it!

You can call it a troll comment if you wish. I cannot judge my own posts or to give any clarifications.

I personally value Saleem Malik’s insight and if he is really eager to work with PCB then I don’t see why he should not be given a chance. It is not as if PCB has steered clear of match-fixers.

Saleem Malik has paid his price. He has been out of the game for two decades and there is nothing wrong if he clamors for another opportunity.

I would personally have him work with the juniors players at academy level. He was a genuinely intelligent batsman.

Yea what he did isn’t corruption and match fixing.

Don’t do zabardasti ki equivalence. It’s called false equivalence for a reason.

Saleem Malik is just looking for a job but I cannot understand why he has attacked Rashid. PCB should appoint him as a coach at junior level and get over this circus. Will certainly do better than Razzaq and Basit.

"Rashid used to say that Altaf Hussain (MQM) is like my father - why doesnt he say that now?"

Will be interesting to hear Rashid's views on Altaf Hussain now.

Still for someone who preaches holier than thou, that episode was extremely damaging to his credibility and integrity

Thanks to Inzamam, who opened this pandora box. Now everyone can see the selfishness of this character. Ramiz is right we should not have given a 2nd chance to Mohd Amir. By doing that now every fixer wants to be rewarded with a good paying job. Look at Kaneria Convicted by British courts, banned by ECB. He has even confessed but wants PCB to reward and exonerate him. Why? because PCB was not tough on Amir.

It's got to the stage now where the credibility of most former players of a certain era is very questionable.

Even those who think of themselves as angels appear to have skeletons in their cupboard.

That toxic 90s team influence should leave Pak cricket fully. That's why Waqar also should be removed from coaching role.

I don't think cricketers should get a 2nd chance to play after being caught as fixing.

Coaching not sure, I don't really mind. Maybe not head coach, but supporting coach, working in domestic or kids I'm fine with. It's a chance for them to pay for their mistakes and they're not really in the spotlight anymore. And you're not really representing your country anymore, and you can pass on those skills you've acquired (and possibly wasted as a result of fixing) to the newer crop of cricketers.

I also tend to believe a lot of cricketers who are caught fixing, genuinely want to make up for what they've done, and they could do that with coaching. But being a player again, that's not really to help others, it's more that they want the glory again, it's more selfish.

I think these comments by him are poor. But his ban was lifted in 2008. On the other hand some of our players get caught, receive 2 and half year bans and then PCB rush them back in. So I dunno about him. Also think it's a little frustrating that I feel quite a few people got away with stuff, it was just him who was caught.

It's got to the stage now where the credibility of most former players of a certain era is very questionable.

Even those who think of themselves as angels appear to have skeletons in their cupboard.

I believe that the level of involvement was quite significant. A large number of players were implicated, to a lesser or greater extent, but involved nonetheless. It was acknowledged that if they had been all banned it would have devastated Pakistan cricket.
So expediency was sought and the biggest culprits were openly punished. But let’s make no mistake, the culture of corruption sadly went much further. There are a lot of skeletons in many cupboards, probably best left closed now.
A generation need to be brought through with the right values.

What Malik has said is hardly surprising for anyone who was following the events of mid-90s on an intimate day-to-day basis, ones who were reading all the different newspaper reports, what was going on in three major cricket magazine publications of the time, Was able to process information from multiple sources, including from the website that rashid created in year 99-2000

I'm glad that people are now speaking up, Because for last quarter century, The question for many players was always to whether risk being called racist was worth or not letting public know who did what in those days. Because as soon as you spoke up and exposed the people who had positioned themselves in a position where got painted as the victim/heroes at the same time, You would be labelled as someone against those peoples language/ethnic background.

Let's see what the next few days reveal, but I don't think there is going to be much because the back door diplomacy is already in full swings right now and then I think what will hear is both parties coming out and saying nice things about each other.

Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has once again rejected former cricketer Saleem Malik’s answer to the transcript, ARY News reported.

According to details, this was the second time that PCB rejected Malik’s reply in which he was asked about his London meetings following the Anti-corruption case in 2000.

Sources confirmed ARY News that Malik has used an option to file appeal against the rejection. PCB will announce the appeal panel tomorrow.

It must be noted here that Malik submitted his answer to PCB’s transcript for the second time on August 18. The former captain had asked PCB for cooperation in allowing him to serve Pakistan’s cricket once again.

LAHORE: The legal battle between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and former captain Salim Malik will continue for a longer period.

The PCB has rejected Malik’s answers once more. Malik had submitted answers to questions posed by the PCB, after the former had reached out to the cricket board to end his ban and grant clearance in the matter on August 18.

According to media reports, the board’s legal department is not satisfied with the answers provided by Malik. However, the PCB has granted the former cricketer the right to appeal the matter if he chooses to do so.

Malik has applied for the appeal and now the PCB will announce an appeal panel in this regard. The panel will listen to both sides before announcing their verdict.

The former cricketer is adamant that the PCB is trying to make his matter more convoluted while claiming that he had answered all questions to the best of his knowledge.

Malik is trying desperately to get clearance from the PCB but bashes them without control in the media, can't get any dumber than this

Former Lahore High Court judge to hear Saleem Malik appeal

Lahore, 14 September 2020:

Former Lahore High Court Justice Mr Justice (retd) Fazal-e-Miran Chauhan, in his capacity as an independent adjudicator, will hear Saleem Malik’s appeal in the matter relating to the contents of the April 2000 conversation transcripts provided by the International Cricket Council, which Mr Malik has failed to respond to till date.

The PCB will share further details in relation to the date and venue for the hearing as soon as they are confirmed by Justice Chauhan. Until such time, the PCB will make no comment on the matter.

I have always rated Salim Malik as the best captain Pakistan ever had. His knowledge of the game and match situations in particular was second to none. However, there is no denial that he was a match fixer. I don't want fixers in the cricketing setup ever again. I was vehemently against Amir coming to the team as well. A case can be made that once you bring a convicted fixer like Amir into the fold, then why not Salman Butt, Danish Kaneria and Salim Malik? But I dont' want more fixers to come back. Getting Amir was wrong but let's just stop there. Now we are again trying to get Sharjeel back into the team which is again a horrible decision. It's as if we will never learn.

Former Lahore High Court Judge Mr Justice (retd) Fazal-e-Miran Chauhan, in his capacity as an independent adjudicator, will hear Saleem Malik’s appeal on 30 September at the National High Performance Centre in Lahore.

Notices for the hearing have been issued to Saleem Malik and the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Saleem Malik had appealed for a hearing in regard to the matter relating to the content of the April 2000 conversation transcripts provided by the International Cricket Council to which he is yet to respond.

Lahore: Former Lahore High Court (LHC)’s judge Justice (Retd) Fazal-e-Miran Chauhan, in his capacity as an independent adjudicator has adjourned the hearing of former cricketer Saleem Malik’s appeal till October 12.

Saud Nasrullah, Saleem’s lawyer is confident that the decision will be based on merit. “We have submitted a response to the appeal and the PCB submitted a reply today, a copy of which we received. I hope there will be a decision on merit.”

Former captain Saleem said that they have submitted all the things required for the case. “We have submitted what was required for the case. We will discuss from where the ICC transcript came. We hope that justice will be done and I will get my due.”

It must be noted that Saleem appealed against PCB’s rejection of his reply to the transcript which asked about his London meetings following the Anti-corruption case in 2000. This was the second time when PCB rejected Malik’s reply terming it ‘unsatisfactory’.

Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’s Independent Adjudicator, Justice (Retd) Fazl-e-Miran Chauhan has reserved the verdict in Salim Malik’s appeal against PCB.

According to the details, Malik had appealed against the rejection of his answer to ICC’s transcript. In reply, PCB appointed an Independent Adjudicator to hear the appeal. After hearing both the parties, Chauhan reserved his verdict and will announce it within 15 days.

Meanwhile, while talking to the media after appearing before the panel, Malik shared ICC’s transcript was shown to him for the first time.

“ICC has clearly stated in the letter that the tape regarding the meeting was not reliable. This is what I was telling continuously,” he said.

“After seeing ICC’s letter, I am confident that now the justice will be served to me and I will be able to resume cricket-related activities,” he added.

LAHORE: A turning point came in the case of former Test captain Salim Malik concerning his suspect role in a transcript provided by the ICC to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) when the independent adjudicator retired Justice Fazal Miran Chouhan held the second hearing here on Monday.

Talking to media after the hearing, Salim and his lawyer Saood Cheema claimed that for the first time the PCB had produced the original ICC letter on the basis of which this case against Salim of having a negative role in a transcript — recorded in 2000 — was made.

Surprisingly, PCB’s lawyer Taffazul Rizvi did not talk with the media to counter the claim made by Salim and his lawyer. However, Dawn learnt through reliable sources that though the ICC had not verified the transcripts with original cassettes, the PCB had done it on its own back in 2013. Taffazul, sources added, had also submitted the verified transcript with original cassettes to the adjudicator.

The ICC letter produced by the PCB for the first time says transcript is not authentic

“The PCB has already provided me with the transcript, but not the original cassettes. I had not accepted the transcript as it is a pack of lies. And now the ICC letter, which was presented by the PCB for the first time before the adjudicator, also mentions that it [transcript] has no authenticity,” the 57-year-old Salim told the media.

“A good discussion was held at the [case] hearing and now I hope that the decision [to be announced in the next 15 days] will come in my favour,” he added. “I believe finally the fight for justice will end in my favour.”

The former skipper, who appeared in 103 Tests and 283 ODIs from 1982 to 1999, said the adjudicator did not give any remarks over his case during the hearing and kept the decision pending for 15 days.
