The return of Nawaz Sharif

PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif on Sunday rued that “some people” had tried to “pull his legs” during his three government tenures when he aimed to ensure that Pakistan remained ahead in development and prosperity.

Addressing a PML-N rally in Lahore to commemorate the silver jubilee of Youm-i-Takbeer, the date of Pakistan’s nuclear tests, Nawaz said that going ahead with the tests despite all international pressures and offers was the “real absolutely not”.

Nawaz is coming back! Right to appeal against SC decision has become the law. Nawaz would now be able to appeal against his disqualification.

I am certain his disqualification will be overturned.

His disqualification was on flimsy grounds to begin with.

Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar on Monday said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Quaid Nawaz Sharif would not benefit from the Supreme Court (Review of Judgments and Orders) Act 2023, which became a law earlier in the day.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Tarar stressed that this law was not enacted for a single person and that it was not related to the cases of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, whose appeals were pending in the courts.

The Supreme Court (Review of Judgments and Orders) Act 2023 Bill was passed by the National Assembly on April 14 and by the Senate on May 5. President Dr Arif Alvi gave his assent to the bill on Monday, which came as a surprise to many.

Tarar said that this legislation would not benefit Nawaz in his current litigation but he could benefit from the previous bill, The Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Act, on which a stay order on its enactment was issued by the top court.

Nawaz is the most coward politician in the world's history. Whenever difficult has come, he has always been the first to aboard a plane and flee.

There are chances that former premier and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif would return home and participate in the upcoming general elections as a petition to end his lifetime disqualification is likely to be filed in the Supreme Court.

According to party sources, PML-N intra-party elections will be held on Friday (today) where there is a strong possibility that Nawaz would remain lifetime “quaid” (leader) of the party.

The apex court had disqualified the former premier in the Panama Papers case in July 2017.

The judges ruled that Nawaz had been dishonest to the parliament and the courts in not disclosing his employment in a Dubai-based company in his 2013 nomination papers, and thus, could not be deemed fit for his office.

Later, an accountability court awarded him 10 years imprisonment in the Avenfield apartments and seven years in Al-Azizia references.

On Friday, the PML-N will mull over the schedule of the former premier’s possible return to the country after the intra-party polls.

Meanwhile, the process of assembling Nawaz’s academic credentials and clearing his tax dues in view of his participation in the upcoming elections continues.

Party sources maintained that the PML-N supremo’s duplicate BA degree had been obtained by his staff member from the Punjab University. A fee of Rs2,990 had been paid in this regard.

An application was filed on Nawaz’s behalf with the Punjab University on June 7 for obtaining his duplicate degree.

Sources in the Punjab University noted that the former premier’s request was immediately processed and his duplicate degree was issued.

According to the record, Nawaz graduated in 1968 and acquired 340 marks.

In November 2019, the former premier left for United Kingdom after he was released on bail in the seven-year sentence. He had reportedly been diagnosed with immune system disorder.

To date, the PML-N supremo resides in London.

PM Shehbaz to relinquish party position upon Nawaz’s return

• Shehbaz Sharif elected PML-N president for four more years
• Says those criticising Dar ‘have no place in party’

ISLAMABAD: After being re-elected president of the PML-N for four years, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Friday the party post was temporary and would be given back to Nawaz Sharif upon his return to the country.

“Nawaz Sharif will return from abroad to lead the country to progress and prosperity after becoming prime minister for the fourth time,” he said while speaking on the occasion of intra-party elections held during a general council meeting of the PML-N at the party’s secretariat.

The general council was jointly chaired by PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif (online) and Shehbaz Sharif.

Maryam Nawaz was elected senior vice president and chief organiser, Ahsan Iqbal general secretary and Attaullah Tarar his deputy, and Marriyum Aurangzeb information secretary. Ishaq Dar was elected president of overseas and international affairs.

According to sources in the Election Commission of Pakistan, the PML-N intra-party polls were due on March 22 last year, but the ECP extended the date at the party’s request and allowed it to hold polls latest by May 14, 2022, and submit the related certificate by May 21 to meet the legal requirement to be eligible to obtain or retain a poll symbol, something the party failed to do even after passage of over a year.

Speaking on the occasion, PM Shehbaz said he had intentionally delayed the meeting of PML-N general council and intra-party polls as he was waiting for his elder brother Nawaz Sharif’s return to the country so that the latter could take charge of the party again.

He said Nawaz Sharif was the builder of modern Pakistan and during his tenure as prime minister he eliminated energy shortages, laid down a network of roads, built infrastructure and developed agriculture, industry and other vital sectors of the economy.

The PM said Finance Minister Ishaq Dar was working hard to steer the country’s economy out of the present difficulties. “Those who were unduly criticising Ishaq Dar have no place in the party,” he said without naming anyone in the party.

The prime minister said the government met all the conditions of the International Monetary Fund for meeting financial needs of the country.

He reminded that the PML-N spent its political capital for the sake of the state at a time when inflation was high and commodity prices skyrocketed.

Despite difficult economic conditions, the common man was given relief in the budget and salaries were raised by 35 per cent and pensions by 17pc, he noted, adding that the nation was brave and would emerge stronger from the current challenges.

He said his government signed an agreement with Azerbaijan to import gas and bought oil from Russia.

An accountability court on Saturday acquitted former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in a reference about alleged illegal allotment of plots in 1986 to the owner of a media house.

Judge Rao Abdul Jabbar passed the order on applications filed by Yousaf Abbas, a nephew of Mr Sha*rif, and others challenging the auction of the properties supposedly owned by Nawaz Sharif. They claimed ownership of the assets ordered to be auctioned by the court after the former premier was declared a proclaimed offender for his constant absence in the trial proceedings.

The applicants who obj*e*cted to the auction said the assets had been transfer*red to them being lawful legal heirs of the owners.

Their counsel Qazi Misbahul Hassan argued before the court that the principal accused (the media owner) and two former Lahore Development Authority (LDA) officers had already been acquitted in the reference of 37-year-old ‘illegal’ land allotment. He said the acquittal of the principal accused proved that no offence was committed.

Therefore, he argued that keeping the proceedings pending against any other accused including a proclaimed offender after the acquittal of the prime accused would be of no use.

The judge admitted the arguments of the counsel and acquitted Nawaz Sharif in the reference.

The trial court had acquitted a media house owner, former director general of LDA Humayon Faiz Rasool and its former director of land development department Mian Bashir Ahmad on Jan 31, 2022.

The NAB had alleged that the media owner illegally obtained exemption of 54 plots, each measuring one kanal, situated in Johar Town’s Block-H. It said the land had been allotted in connivance with then chief minister Nawaz Sharif against the exemption policy and the laws for monetary gains. It alleged the accused caused a loss of Rs143.53 million to the national exchequer through the allotment in violation of exemption policy.

Acquitting the principal accused, the court in its decision observed that the media owner got plots in 1986 and the LDA, as per the prosecution, pronounced a policy of requiring payment of excess plots at the market price in 1990. The court ruled that the policy had no retrospective effect and was applicable for future cases.

The court concluded that no loss was caused to the LDA from any act of the accused or his co-accused persons as the prosecution admitted that the reserved price was paid in time.

UAE tour

Meanwhile, PML-N chief organiser Maryam Nawaz reached Dubai to spend Eid with her father and party’s supreme leader Nawaz Sharif who landed there from the UK.

A party huddle on issues ranging from elections to caretaker setup and his (Nawaz) return is expected to be held during their stay in the UAE, as a PML-N insider told Dawn that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and some senior party leaders were also expected to reach the UAE to attend the party meeting on the issue of holding elections and the caretaker set-up after the completion of the coalition government term on August 13.

“The other important agenda of the huddle will be the return of the elder Sharif to Pakistan ahead of polls and steps being taken to secure court relief in the cases he is convicted of,” he said.

Mr Sharif may also visit Saudi Arabia en route to London.

Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb did not respond to Dawn’s query regarding the party meeting details in Dubai, though she tweeted that Maryam Nawaz left for Dubai (from Lahore) on a private visit. “Nawaz Sharif is already in Dubai along with the other family members,” she wrote.

Currently, he said, names of those close to the establishment were doing the rounds for being favourite candidates for the caretaker premier.

^ Nawaz would file a petition soon as Faiz Esa is to become the CJ in September. Nawaz’s disqualification will be lifted and he will become the PM.

This makes me puke! What a sad state of affairs!

Before that FCPI will come into action and Pakistan will have inflows of $112billion, with such massive development and infrastructure Pakistan will bid for Olympics 2028 and Nawaz will lead marathon as torch bearer :)))

I've heard the establishment has done a treaty with Bilawal to become the next PM. This was one of the main reasons PPP decided to form a coalition with their bitter rivals PML-N.

PML-N got about 18 months whilst, PPP will benefit more with 5 years.

If Nawaz Sharif is indeed returning to the country, this is the last roll of the dice for him. At this age and keeping his health issues in views he might not be active in politics in 2028.

NA passes bill to pave way for Nawaz return

• Key amendment empowers ECP to give poll date without consulting president
• JI lawmaker rejects bill as ‘person-specific’

ISLAMABAD: After its approval from the upper house of parliament, the National Assem*bly on Sunday approved the Elections (Amendment) Act 2023, which empowers the Election Commi*ssion of Pakistan to unilaterally fix the date for elections and also limits the lawmakers’ disqualification period to five years with retrospective effect.

The bill, dubbed as ‘person-specific legislation’ by the opposition, would benefit PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif and newly-for*med Istehkam-i-Pakistan Party (IPP) patron Jahangir Khan Tareen. The two were disqualified for life more than five years ago after a Supreme Court judgement ruled that the disqualification under Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution was for life.

When it was introduced in the Senate, one of the movers of the amendment, Senator Dilawar Khan, had said that Mr Sharif, Mr Tareen and many politicians from Balochistan would benefit from the law.

After its passage from the National Assembly, the bill requires the final nod of President Dr Arif Alvi, who is presently in Saudi Arabia to perform Haj. Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani is performing duties as acting president in his stead.

The bill was tabled in the lower house by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and JI lawmaker Maulana Akbar Chitrali was the lone lawmaker who opposed its approval.

Mr Chitrali said the bill was devised to “benefit specific personalities”.

“Incorporating proposed amendments in the election commission’s bill was person-specific legislation,” he added.

The JI lawmaker was of the view that no changes can be made in Articles 62 and 63 without amending the Constitution for which a two-thirds majority was needed.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, however, disagreed.

Speaking on Hum News programme ‘Pakistan Tonight’ later in the day, he said the amendment was not specific to Nawaz Sharif.

Khan is the ultimate example of an incompetent politician. If PTI had not resigned, today, the party would be in NA opposing this bill!

Khan brought all this mess upon himself.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Thursday that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supreme leader and former premier Nawaz Sharif is set to return to Pakistan next month and will face his pending court cases.
In an interview with a private television channel, he said that after the caretaker government was formed, he would go to London to discuss plan for his return with his brother Nawaz Sharif.
The premier said that Nawaz would lead the election campaign of his party and would be the next prime minister for the fourth time if PML-N won the next election.
The prime minister said President Arif Alvi signed the advice to dissolve the National Assembly last night. Moreover, he engaged in discussions with coalition partners regarding the selection of a caretaker prime minister. The decision on this matter, he mentioned, is expected to be reached within the next three days.
“Tomorrow, we will hopefully finalise a name for the post of caretaker prime minister,” he said, adding he would further consult the matter with the allied parties and brother Nawaz.
He said that as he had been saying all along he would hand over the government to the caretaker set up and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) would decide about the date for new elections.
Council of Common Interests (CCI) had already approved the new digital census and the election would be held according to this census, he said.
“We have followed the Constitution and now the institutions have the responsibility to hold the elections,” he remarked, adding he desired that polls should be held as soon as possible.
Shehbaz pointed out that he led the shortest government of 16 months formed by coalition parties of various ideologies and thinking.
“We proved to the people that the coalition parties were united for the sake of the country. We performed our responsibilities in the best interests of the state.”
Shehbaz said that the biggest contribution of his government was that Pakistan was saved from default and for that his government went through a difficult phase of negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The Managing Director IMF at one point in a meeting with him in Paris said that no time was left for revival of the programme but later an agreement was reached for loan of three billion dollars, he recalled.
The PM said in the four years of the previous government, relations were damaged with friendly and brotherly countries and long-time friends of Pakistan were alienated.
He said that countries like Saudi Arabia unconditionally came to the rescue of Pakistan on numerous difficult occasions in the past, provided monetary assistance to the country and gave oil on deferred payment for three years but despite all that the previous government could not maintain better ties with the brotherly country.
To a question, the prime minister said that he chaired two meetings of the National Security Committee and Pakistan’s then-former ambassador to the United States and present foreign secretary Dr Asad Majeed told there that he sent the report of his conversation with State Department official Donald Lu in a cypher.
The ambassador told the meeting that it was never mentioned in the cypher that the United States was conspiring against the government of that time in Pakistan, he narrated.
He said that Imran Khan gave contradictory statements on the issue of cypher and on various occasions held different personalities and the United States responsible for the removal of his government and then withdrew his accusations.
At one point Imran claimed that as he was getting close to China and Russia, therefore, his government was removed, Shehbaz said while stressing, “It was my government that improved relations with China and Russia.”
Then Imran Khan said he lost the cypher, he said, adding as prime minister Imran Khan could have read the cypher but he should not have taken it with him as it was confidential.
“If the cypher was lost by Imran Niazi then how it got published now?” he wondered adding the law enforcement agencies were investigating the matter.
To a question, he said the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) would focus on agriculture, information technology, mineral development and water resources.
He said according to the ground realities of Pakistan, it had 33 years of martial law which ultimately failed and also democratic governments which were not that strong.
So everybody should work together now to bring prosperity in the lives of the people, he said, while giving reasons for forming the SIFC in which the army would have a role in attracting investment.
He reminded that Imran Khan was following a “hybrid model” of governance and former army chief General (retd) Qamar Bajwa gave unprecedented support to Imran but he used this support to put members of the opposition in jails and for abusing and maligning them.
Shehbaz said, “I am not happy that Imran Niazi is in jail,” adding, “Although, when we were sent to jail, Imran Niazi made statements that he put his political opponents in jail, then he personally victimised his opponents and asked for their mistreatment in jail by denying them facilities of bed, home food and medicine.”
“I was forced to sleep on the floor and then I was made to travel in an armoured personnel carrier despite problems in my backbone.”

PML-N leaders remained hopeful that the party supremo Nawaz Sharif will return to Pakistan and even lead the election campaign despite the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down the law to expand the scope of a review petition.

The court said the parliament had gone beyond its legislative competence by enacting the Supreme Court (Review of Judgements and Orders) Act, 2023.

The decision prompted a sharp rebuke from PML-N leaders who assailed the verdict, calling it a “contempt of parliament”. Leading the outcry, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said parliament was empowered to make laws and this was the first time in history that legislation was stopped in anticipation.

“I have not seen it happening anywhere in the world,” the prime minister said during an interview with Samaa TV on Friday.

Reports of the impending return of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif are once again making the rounds, but with no official announcement from Nawaz himself, and no date set, both his party and supporters back home are in the dark about when he will actually leave London, where he has been based since 2019.

Over the last year, especially since the ouster of PTI Chairman Imran Khan and the change at the helm in April 2022, at several points some PML-N leaders claimed that the senior Sharif is “coming back to Pakistan next month”.

At the end of June, when the PML-N leader was in Dubai, many in his party hoped that, being less than three hours away by air, he may come back to Pakistan. In fact, a letter was sent out by Rana Sanaullah to PML-N presidents and divisional secretaries in mid-July instructing them to inform their MNAs, MPAs and party workers to prepare for the return of Nawaz Sharif.

“Whenever the leadership sets a date, the preparations for Mian Nawaz Sharif’s return should be complete and caravans should come from the union council level,” it said. But no date emerged, and Nawaz left the UAE, went to Europe for a break, and returned to London this month.

PML-N insider says party’s supreme leader may not come back before new CJP is sworn in

One PML-N insider told Dawn he may not return before the new CJP is sworn in.

“We have to see if he comes in the presence of this CJP or not. We cannot take a risk, he is 74, he is diabetic, two heart surgeries and multiple ailments. Can’t put him in the position that can put his life in danger.”

Brilliant but unless the CJP can cast an extra 10mn votes, or the Generals decide to give an extra 10mn votes, he is a nothing politician. All the crap about vote ki izzat laid bare by the last 16 months.

PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah said on Tuesday his party’s supremo, Nawaz Sharif, was confident that general elections would be held in the country in February next year.

“He (Nawaz) is sure that elections will take place in February. Delimitation of constituencies has to be completed before then, and it will be completed by December,” Sanaullah said while responding to a question about Nawaz’s expected return to Pakistan during an appearance on Geo News show ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath’.

The former interior minister added that since elections would be held in February, it was appropriate for Nawaz to return to the country in September or October.

Nawaz left the country in November 2019 for medical treatment in London following his conviction in a corruption case. The three-time prime minister has not returned since and faces multiple cases in Pakistan.

Nawaz Sharif is the right candidate considering the credentials of the majority of Pakistan public and Pakistan army.
Easily scared and sold out so for such a country a coward and a puppet prime minister is the right option.

Welcome him back. And be happy with the status quo. :)

Jesi Awam wesay hi hukamaran.

I think that Nawaz Sharif will not return anytime soon. First of all, they will confirm that he doesn't have to go to jail upon his return, and all cases against him should be resolved. There might be a caretaker government for an extended period, and even then, they might not grant relief to Nawaz Sharif.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if I were in place of him, I would have probably killed myself by now or gone into exile from the public. Nothing can be more humiliating than being elected by your people as their PM twice, and then end up stealing money from those same people. I'd rather die than let my countrymen call me a CHOR.

He will be th YES MAN of the USA and Pakistan army. A toothless prime minister. I do not blame these crooks at all however I blame Pakistani public who never come out in numbers on streets against these chor generals and politicians . for a quran burning somewhere in the world they are ready to kill their own people and damage properties in their own country. Then they truly deserve them.

i dont think its going to happen soon.. because as SAIRA BANO said "rishtay walon ko choti behen pasand agyi hai" lolz

As much as I love him, I believe he will never become the PM again. He will return to Pakistan in the next few months. But Imran has made the public hate him so much that Pakistani people aren't willing to accept him anymore.

He is too old now and can't win over the public anymore.

It's not Imran who made the public hate him, it's the army generals who took the disastrous decision to jail Pakistan's greatest ever hero. Sharif and the Bhutto clan will forever be seen as willing stooges in the sale of the country to foreign forces hostile to Pakistan.

Lol..yup..evil Imran who made the normal man hate the great leader. I mean after all Imran actually authored the Panama papers. He also made up fake news about property in London.
The great leader just can't come back now because his loving public have been duped. Poor guy. Feel sorry for him living in his dingy one bed apartment in Slough. I wish he could come back home and reignite the Pakistani golden age where rivers of milk and honey flowed..where gold was handed out in handfuls to the people.

I still remember the day when Nawaz inaugurated the Pakistani national health service. Thank God we still have that. Also his work alleviating the inequalities in education is still legendary. He really needs to come back and finish the job. Thank God that evil corrupt Khan is in jail now after he plundered the country and built a foreign empire of property and companies.. evil..

The Supreme Court Tuesday disposed of as withdrawn a plea of Broadsheet LLC, seeking a copy of Volume 10 of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) report in the Panama Leaks case.

A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Umar Ata Bandial, heard the case.

The other members of the bench were Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Shahid Waheed. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) struck a deal with the asset recovery firm during Pervez Musharraf’s government in 1999 to trace assets in the UK and the US of more than 200 Pakistanis (called ‘targets’ in the contract), including ex-generals, politicians, businessmen with Benazir Bhutto, Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz Sharif as the major targets.

On Tuesday, Justice Athar Minallah observed that the petitioner had sought a copy of Volume 10 of the JIT report in a court of arbitration.

“But the arbitration process had concluded; therefore, the matter has become infructuous,” Justice Minallah told Sardar Latif Khosa, counsel for the petitioner.

The additional attorney general told the court that the Broadsheet had received 20 percent recovered from the property adding that the NAB had paid $28 million to the company.

Khosa, however, contended that the anti-graft body in 1999 hired the services of Broadsheet for tracing the assets of Sharif family adding how the country was looted and properties were made should be known to everyone.

“It was the money of the people of Pakistan; therefore, it is the public right under Article 19-A of the Constitution to know as to how the country was looted,” Khosa added.

The Chief Justice, however, asked the counsel that he could file a petition regarding the public interest under Article 184(3) of the Constitution. “Don’t talk about public interest on the shoulders of Broadsheet,” the chief justice told Khosa.

As much as I love him, I believe he will never become the PM again. He will return to Pakistan in the next few months. But Imran has made the public hate him so much that Pakistani people aren't willing to accept him anymore.

He is too old now and can't win over the public anymore.
This has got to be a joke! How did Imran made the public hate him, via propaganda or via the courts? You seriously love a man who was twice elected by his people as their PM, and then repaid their faith by stealing from the poor?

After weeks of silence, PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif once again thundered at the superior judiciary, hitting out at the alleged partial treatment of senior judges towards Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan.

Naming Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial, former CJP Asif Saeed Khosa, serving apex court judge Ijazul Ahsan and others, Mr Nawaz said, “There was a time when justices Ijazul Ahsan, Sheikh Azmat Saeed, Saqib Nisar were obsessed with putting Nawaz Sharif behind bars, disqualifying him and ending his government. They left no stone unturned against us, and there is now evidence of what they did from within their institution. Shaukat Aziz Sididqui is no outsider, he is from within the judiciary — what bigger proof is needed?” he told a reporter outside the PML-N’s de facto London office at Stanhope House.

Mr Nawaz made these remarks in response to a question from a journalist, who asked for his comments on “the judiciary giving relief” to Mr Khan in the Toshakhana case. Since his return from his more than one month-long trip to Europe, Dubai and Saudi Arabia, Mr Nawaz has largely maintained silence on ongoing political issues, as speculations run high that he will return.

He hit out at Mr Khan and at the judiciary. “Today, a man who is embroiled in corruption cases ranging from Toshakhana to Al Qadir Trust for theft of billions, the chief justice is trying to protect him.

“Look at the difference… the then chief justice was determined to push Nawaz Sharif against a wall, and today’s CJP is determined to save Imran Khan. They know he has destroyed the country, the economy, our national values, and violated our culture and traditions.

“The way they [PTI] behaved in opposition… what did they do besides protests and demonstrations? Despite this we achieved so much. Even in power, he did not stop his campaign against us. He went to America and said he will get fans removed from Nawaz Sharif’s cell. In dharnas, he would say he would put a noose in my neck and drag me out of the PM house. Him and Tahirul Qadri are all on record saying this.”

Mr Nawaz continued, “For this man Imran Khan, the chief justice of Pakistan is putting his career on the line. It is disappointing that despite what is known about Khan’s destruction, that he was brought by Gen Faiz and Gen Bajwa, that this is still happening.

Mr Nawaz earlier also lauded the army personnel and the local administration officials in Battagram for a “tremendous rescue effort in Battagram that the whole world was watching”.

Corruption, corruption, chor, chor, chor.... I am frankly tired of hearing this nonsense again and again. Imran didn't steal a single penny right? He turned Pakistan into a superpower in those 3.5 years yeah?

Atleast Nawaz Sharif has some achievements to talk about. Go ask an ordinary citizen living in Pakistan how life was from 2013-2017 compared to life from 2018-2022. You will have your answer.

You fixed the rp at artifically low rates and used up the dollars TO KEEP IT THERE. You benefitted from low commodity prices and did nothing with them. The problems of the Rp today are directly related to the disaster of the useless moron that is on the run because exports crashed as prices of our goods were upto 30% than they should have been and imports were 30% cheaper which led to the bankruptcy in 2018.
IKs achievements- Exports rose by a 1/3rd, remittances up, CAD in Surplus, 6% growth during a time international crisis.

Former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday said PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif would return to Pakistan in October.

“We held consultations with the senior leadership of the party and we have decided that our quaid [leader] Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif will return to Pakistan in October,” he told media persons in London.

Nawaz flanked Shehbaz as he made the announcement.

Shehbaz did not specify a date when Nawaz would return.

Senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Khursheed Shah on Sunday said that it is unlikely that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif will return to Pakistan in October.

Shah, who served as the federal minister for water resources in the previous coalition government led by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), said that former premier Shehbaz Sharif may say that Nawaz will be returning in October but "I say that his [Nawaz's] health is not good".

"Nawaz's health may deteriorate at the last minute," he said.

Former premier and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif has confirmed to return to the country next month, family sources confirmed to ARY News on Friday.

The preparations for Nawaz Sharif’s return to Pakistan entered final phase, family sources told ARY News. It was learnt that consultations are still underway for the former premier’s return, however, Sharif’s lawyers suggested him to return home.

In a statement attributed to the former premier, It was said that the party founder would be given a grand welcome upon return.

The elder Sharif left the country in November 2019 on medical grounds following his conviction in a corruption case but never returned.

In Feb 2020, the then government had declared him an absconder, and later in the same year, an accountability court had declared him a proclaimed offender in the Toshakhana vehicles reference.

It is pertinent to mention here that in June 2023, in what was seen as a move to pave the way for Nawaz’s return, the National Assembly and Senate approved the Elections (Amendment) Act 2023 in June, which empowered the Election Commission of Pakistan to unilaterally fix the date for elections and also limits the lawmakers’ disqualification period to five years with retrospective effect.

The bill, dubbed as “person-specific legislation” by the opposition, was expected to benefit Nawaz and newly-formed Istehkam-i-Pakistan Party (IPP) patron Jahangir Khan Tareen. The two were disqualified for life more than five years ago after a Supreme Court judgement ruled that the disqualification under Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution was for life.

In June, an accountability court also acquitted Nawaz in a reference pertaining to the alleged illegal allotment of plots in 1986 to the owner of a media house.

The case was among several others in which members of the Sharif family were cleared after a ruling coalition led by the PML-N came to power in April last year following the ouster of PTI chief Imran Khan as the prime minister through a no-confidence vote.

other leaders of PMLN is running out of the country so in souch circumstances how can we axpect that Nawaz Sharif is returning to Pakistan soon.

sure he has received a green signal from somewhere that upon his return cases will be closed against him. PMLN knows that Qazi Faiz Essa is going to become the new Chief Justice and he will provide relief to Nawaz Sharif.

Lol, sums up the state of the corruption endemic at the highest level when cases can just be opened or closed at the drop of a hat. The leadership in Pakistan is already for sale to the highest bidder so no real surprise though.

Lets see if he actually gets a chance to finish his term this time round.

If he does than maybe Pakistan can get back on track

Really? Is he bringing back billions stolen to Pakistan?
Stopped being corrupt?
Took ownership of Avenfield apartments' and decided to sell it to return the money to poor of Pakistani.
Pakistan will not get back on track unless and until the people's mandate is upheld.

As per todays SC orders to restoration of corruption cases against public office holders, of course he will not come

LONDON: Former finance minister Ishaq Dar said that there are no hurdles in PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif’s participation in elections, ARY News reported.

As per details, Ishaq Dar said that article 62 (1) (f) which decreased the disqualification sentence to five years was passed by the parliament and also approved by the president.

He said that after the the approval of article 62 (1) (f) former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) head Jahangir Tareen are now eligible to participate in elections.

The PML-N president also said that his brother would come to Pakistan and face the law and “there are no two opinions on it”.

They will see the current policies of the new Supreme Court Chief Justice and then they will decide whether Nawaz Sharif should come back or not.
But I think Nawaz Sharif will not come back because public thinking that current inflation of care taker govt the only reason is PMLN and no more support from voters

Lahore: Pakistan's self-exiled former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has said that his country is begging money from the world while India has reached the moon and hosted the G20 summit, blaming the country's former generals and judges for its economic mess.
Pakistan's economy has been in a free fall mode for the last many years, bringing untold pressure on the poor masses in the form of unchecked double-digit inflation.

"Today Pakistan's prime minister goes country to country to beg for funds while India has reached the moon and is holding G20 meetings. Why Pakistan couldn't achieve the feats India did. Who is responsible for this here?" Sharif asked while addressing a party meeting in Lahore from London via video link on Monday evening.

"When Atal Bihari Vajpayee became the prime minister of India, it had only a billion dollars in kitty but now India's foreign exchange reserves have risen up to $600 billion," he said and questioned where India has reached today and where Pakistan is left behind begging the world for some bucks.

In July, the IMF transferred USD 1.2 billion to cash-strapped Pakistan, part of the USD 3 billion bailout programme for nine months to support the government's efforts to stabilise the country's ailing economy.

Sharif has for the first time announced his return to the country on October 21 to lead the party's political campaign in the upcoming elections, ending his over four years of self-imposed exile in the UK.

"The man (Nawaz) who rid the country of power load shedding was sent home by four judges," Sharif said in his emotional speech. He added that then-army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and then Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief General Faiz Hamid were behind his ouster.

"(Former) chief justices Saqib Nisar and Asif Saeed Khosa were tools of [the former army chief and his spy chief]. Their crime is bigger than a murder offence. Giving them pardons will be an injustice to the nation. They don't deserve pardon," Sharif said, vowing to hold them accountable.

"These 'characters' who unleashed economic misery on the people of Pakistan will have to face accountability," he pledged.

Sharif also declared that his party will win in upcoming general elections.

Since some former aides to Sharif's PML-N have been appointed to the caretaker federal cabinet, and the party (PMLN) is not joining the demand to hold elections within 90 days after the dissolution of the assemblies, the Pakistan Peoples' Party (PPP) of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari suspects the Sharifs of cosying up to the powerful military establishment.

No Change in Nawaz Sharif’s return plan: Shehbaz

LONDON: Former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday claimed that there was ‘no change’ in the return plan of his brother and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif as the latter is set to land in Pakistan on October 21, ARY News reported.

Shehbaz Sharif rushed back to London merely hours after he returned to the country from the UK, a development that gave way to rumours regarding a possible change in travel plans of Nawaz Sharif.

The former premier left London earlier in the week after spending several weeks here, but upon reaching Lahore, made a sudden plan to return in order to meet with his elder brother, party supremo Nawaz Sharif.

Sources told ARY News that a consultation meeting was held in London which was attended by PML-N bigwigs including Maryam Nawaz, Ishaq Dar, Abid Sher Ali, Mian Javed Latif, Talal Chaudhry, Burjees Tahir, and Sheikh Rohail Asghar.

Speaking on the occasion, the PML-N supremo said that Pakistan – a prospering nation – was brought to the brink of destruction under a conspiracy in 2017.

“Qamar Bajwa, Faiz Hameed, Saqib Nisar and Azmat Saeed are criminals of 22-crore people”, he alleged.

“The country will not be able to move forward until the characters involved in the conspiracy are brought to justice,” he said.

Meanwhile, Shehbaz Sharif – while talking to journalists – said that he returned to London on directions of Nawaz Sharif. “No change was made in return plan of PML-N supremo,” he added.

In response to a question, Shehbaz said he never visited Gujranwala and did not hold a meeting.

Lashing out at Caretaker Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti on Tuesday over his comments regarding the possible arrest of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, former interior minister Rana Sanaullah said that his predecessor Sheikh Rashid's current predicament should be considered before making such remarks.

I might be an ardent support of Nawaz Sharif. But his return won't make any significant difference to the country now. He is too old and lacks the strength to hold public office now. The crisis this time is too big and it needs a good decade to fix.

He is better of spending his last few years in the UK.

He is not coming back for Pakistan.
His family didn't removed PTI led government to improve Pakistan's economy

He is coming back to secure political career for his family and if news are true for geo-politics purpose, not to fix the crisis that him and his family created.

Khan is the ultimate example of an incompetent politician. If PTI had not resigned, today, the party would be in NA opposing this bill!

Khan brought all this mess upon himself.
Lol at the naivety. We all saw how the member of Parliament a folded when some pressure was used by the establishment.

These people would have caused a humiliation for Imran Khan if he was still in the parliament. He did the right thing resigning.

Apparently the deal IK is being offered is to accept Nawaz Sharif as the next PM in exchange for freedom from cases. In fact Nawaz Sharif upon his return will be symbolically arrested and kept in Adialla Jail where IK is currently being kept and a High Court will exonerate him from the Panama/Iqama verdict. The establishment is hoping NS, IK will meet, have talks in prison and reach some sort of deal.

I am confident that the establishment is no longer backing Nawaz Sharif now because if he couldn't return to pakistan when his brother was in power so it's very unlikely now.

Who else they are going to back then? The sooner the Army gets NRO from IK the sooner NS platelets will normal.

October 21 has been chosen for the return of Pakistan Muslim League (N) leader Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and the party has started preparations to welcome him.

The senior leaders have been tasked to take as many people as possible to Minar-e-Pakistan to welcome Nawaz Sharif.

After which the race has started to see who will be able to bring maximum number of people to the venue to prove their loyalty to the party.

In this cycle, it has reached to the point that those who bring more people to the PML-N rally are being lured.

In this regard, a very interesting video is going viral on social media, in which it is being announced that the new "Honda 125" motorcycle will be given as a prize to the person who brings the most people.

I am pretty much sure that this date will also pass but Nawaz Sharif won't return back to Pakistan.

Nawaz Sharif's Return To Pakistan Not Driven By Revenge: Shehbaz Sharif

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday said the party's supreme leader Nawaz Sharif was not returning to the country to "seek revenge" but rather to take the nation towards prosperity, The Express Tribune newspaper reported.

The former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is scheduled to return to the country on October 21 which would mark an end to his three-year self-imposed exile in London.

His expected arrival has created quite a stir in the country's politics.

No legal hurdle in Nawaz Sharif's return to Pakistan: Shehbaz Sharif

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif has said there is no legal hurdle in the return of the party supremo Nawaz Sharif.

Addressing a press conference in Lahore on Friday, the former prime minister — who led the country for 16 months after the ouster of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government in April last year — said his elder brother will arrive at the Minar-e-Pakistan following his return to Pakistan on October 21.

"The question regarding Nawaz Sharif's return shouldn't be repeated. He will return on October 21, if Allah approves," the politicians urged journalists during the presser.

Nawaz Sharif still a heart patient, LHC told
Nawaz Sharif still has heart problems and needs continuous monitoring, says a fresh medical report submitted to LHC

LAHORE/LONDON: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) supremo and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif still has heart problems and needs continuous monitoring, says a fresh medical report submitted to the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday, just days before his expected arrival to the country.

The PMLN leader was allowed by the high court in November 2019 to go abroad on health grounds after his medical reports revealed that he needed urgent treatment.

In the medical report filed by Nawaz’s legal team, Professor Carlo di Mario of London’s Royal Brompton Hospital stated that he has been treating “this patient with previous CABG, multiple angioplasties and ablations, throughout his stay in London in the past years.”

The cardiologist noted that they first tried medical treatment, strengthening his antianginal therapy. Professor Carlo di Mario — who is a consultant in Interventional Cardiology — cited Nawaz Sharif’s persistent anginal symptoms and the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 epidemic behind the delay in his safe return to Pakistan.

“When his symptoms worsened and a large area of ischaemia was confirmed in a Rubidium PET myocardial perfusion scan, we decided to repeat an angioplasty. This treatment was performed on November 2022 and targeted an occluded left circumflex artery.”

It required rotational atherectomy, intravascular lithotripsy, multiple stents deployed and expanded under IVUS guidance,” the report stated.

It added that the elder Sharif still has some residual anginal symptoms and suggested continuous monitoring.

“…….due to diffuse distal coronary disease in a patient with diabetes and multiple other comorbidities that would require frequent follow-up investigations both in London and Pakistan.”

Nawaz Sharif got rid of the IMF 2 times, he will do it again, Khawaja Asif

His insistence on Dar as Finance Minister destroyed the economy. He should never be in a position of power again.

Former information minister Marriyum Aurangzeb on Saturday said PML-N Supremo Nawaz Sharif will head to his Jati Umra residence after addressing a rally at Minar-i-Pakistan, Lahore on October 21 — the day he is set to return to Pakistan after four years in England.

The former prime minister had left for London in 2019 on medical grounds while serving his seven-year jail term. In the four years that transpired, Nawaz was declared a proclaimed offender in the Al Azizia and Avenfield graft cases for his continuous absence from proceedings.

On September 12 of this year, Shehbaz Sharif had confirmed that Nawaz would return to the country on Oct 21, while his party said on Sept 30 that Nawaz was ready to face “all kinds of circumstances” upon his return.

Meanwhile, on Oct 3, PML-N Punjab President Rana Sanaullah said that Nawaz would return to the country with protective bail and “surrender to the court after his (welcome) reception” in Lahore.

Marriyum gave more details of Nawaz’s plans upon touching down in Lahore, telling Dawn.com today that “he will land at the Lahore airport and from there he will address a public meeting at Minar-i-Pakistan, after which he will return to his Jati Umra residence.”

She maintained that Nawaz would not be arrested at the airport.

Marriyum said that Nawaz would set straight the country’s economic agenda and vision in his Minar-i-Pakistan speech. “Nawaz Sharif is the only way to stabilise and develop the country and only he can help lift the country’s economy on its own feet.”

Talking about the 16-month tenure of former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif, she claimed he did not make any wrong decisions during his time in power.

“He is the only leader who saved the country from default,” Marriyum added. “If he had not done any economic planning, the country would have turned into a Sri Lanka.”

Nawaz to be PM for 4th time: Khawaja Asif
There was less inflation at that time and the country was progressing, he said

SIALKOT: Former defence minister and senior PML-N leader Khawaja Asif on Saturday said former prime minister and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif would return home on October 21 and become the prime minister for the fourth time.

Addressing a press conference here, he said Nawaz would stay briefly in one or two countries before his homecoming. He claimed the last time when Nawaz was the prime minister, the country got rid of terrorism and load-shedding. Only Nawaz is capable of resolving all the issues confronting the country these days, Asif said. “He was the one under whose leadership the country got rid of the IMF programme and would do so again.” The corruption index came down when he was the premier. There was less inflation at that time and the country was progressing, he said.
