Sept 4, 2019 - Misbah was appointed the head coach and chief selector of Pakistan Cricket team by PCB. He was also the batting coach, captain / coach of Islamabad United ( please correct me if I am wrong here). I believe that he also had some position in one of departments.

No one in the history of Pakistan cricket held so many influential positions at any one time. He was all in all as far as Pakistan cricket team was concerned.

Fast forward - Jan 21, 2021
Misbah is no longer the Chief Selector
no longer the batting coach
no longer the person who selects the playing eleven
no longer associated with Islamabad United ( I could be wrong)
no longer with department cricket

Could be kicked out after the SA series.

What happened ?????

First off, Misbah is a good person. With so many head cases in Pakistan cricket, he is one of the few who is sane and level headed. We need that.

Misbah was part of the cricket committee which recommended that Mickey Arthur's contract should not be renewed. They never provided a logical explanation of that decision.

First Mickey is let go, Misbah resigns from the committee and becomes the coach and the selector.

Both those decisions were wrong. Arthur's contract should have been renewed. Misbah should not have bitten more than he could chew.

This is Pakistan. Knives are always out. Misbah should have known that.

Regardless, Misbah is a great servant of Pakistan cricket. The decisions have to be done diplomatically so Pakistan cricket does not lose out on a good person.

I don't know who they bring in as the new coach.

Misbah would be an ideal coach for Under 19 team. He should have started from scratch.

If he has risen and fallen, then there is a chance that he will rise again. I won't be surprised if Misbah is back at the top of PCB someday in the future.

He may even make a good coach someday. But he is hopelessly out of his depth as things stand.

I think that could be said about his 2007 World T20 exploits.

Nobody else in Pakistan cricket with the exception of IK and or Wasim Akram has as much influence as he does.

He’s not going anywhere. He may lose the Head Coach gig but he will remain and in the next 20 years, he will likely become PCB Chairman.

Football is a great example as to how talented footballers fail at management.

Misbah has the discipline and skills to make it work but needed a few more years at Islamabad.

Ironically, it’s not his first rise and fall.

He rose as an aggressive batsman only to fall as a defensive player after the 2007 World T20.

He rose as the savior of Pakistan cricket’s self-respect following the spot fixing scandal then fell as the culprit behind our loss at Mohali and years of defensive tactics.

He rose again as the person who did pushups at Lord’s, took us to number 1 in Tests, and stepped in to save Pakistan cricket 3 years later from Mickey Arthur.

Within a month, he assumed the jobs of selector, head coach, and batting coach, and became the most powerful person to ever be involved in Pakistan cricket. Fast forward a year and a half, and he’s been stripped of almost all these posts with the last one hanging by a thread.

I suspect this isn’t the last we’ll see of Misbah.

People forget Misbah started his career in 2001, failed and justifiably got dropped for a couple of years

From 2003-2007, we had a locked in ATG middle order of younis, yousuf and Inzi and the no6 was a floater depending on match situation / horses for courses. Bob wanted utility players so went for the likes of malik, razzi etc. Who would Misbah replace?

Even if he was given the no6 spot, he would have invariably failed as he proved between 2007-2010.

Misbah’s career was over in 2010. Spot fixing saved him as we wanted a specialist captain. Since then he’s given off this impression that he did Pak cricket a favour for accepting captaincy. Truth is Spot fixing was the best thing that ever happened to him.

He went on from 2010 to slowly, systematically destroy pak cricket - it’s almost as if he was given a mission and he executed the plan in stages.

The job wasn’t complete and he’s come back as coach to ensure complete destruction
