The Streak - Tributes thread

The Streak ate and lived well. And though OP predicted an untimely death that it narrowly escaped, it seems like The Streak will still die young and not live to see 30 :sree

Don't mourn it. Celebrate its life for what it was. It would want us to happy when its gone.

A glorious hand of fate. An epic poem that was witnessed by billions.

Imma cry brother. :sree

Virat Kohli could become the first Indian captain to lose to Pakistan in a World Cup match tomorrow. If it does happen it will be another feather in his cap having not won a single ICC tournament, IPL trophy etc as captain.

Can he escape this ignominy? Can MSD's lucky charm help him out somehow?

On the other hand, Ramiz Raja has put a lot of pressure on the Pakistani side by issuing almost daily press conferences and asking the team to take revenge on India, NZ Aus Eng.. and win the whole tournament.

Will Babar and the boys be able to handle this pressure? Can he leech some of Hayden's aura to lift his game and beat India and the rest and lift the cup?

Mamma Mia! Tomorrow will be fun... for one of them.

This jinx, anti-jinx stuff is getting boring. Come on Indian fans, man up and be truthful.

One day left for Pakistan to end this streak for forever. Pakistan favorite to win this time .

While it may be tough for anyone to pass before the 30th birthday, it must be said that the Streak has lived a fulfilling life till now. Born in the early 90s, it was predicted by the doctors to not live beyond it's 5th birthday due certain fundamental health problems, but beating all the odds, the Streak has not just lived to see beyond its 5th birthday but also went on to join a reputed college, and graduate with a nice degree in 2015.

Alhamdulillah it recently married its highschool sweetheart in 2019 and had its first born baby last year. But of course, every good thing must come to an end once day and people must make peace with that. My only sadness is that a young family will be thrown apart on Sunday.

It's like I'm 15 again and I find out the girl next door who I nursed a secret crush on already has someone special :shezzy2 Its gonna hurt big time, tmrw . Congrats in advance, Ppers ! Mubarak ho!

Try not to beat us too badly . All good things have an end I suppose. Cest la vie :(

Yar stop with this drama lol. Their no way this Pakistan team could even give a fight to the current mighty indian team.

The streak is alive for only the next 10 overs, if a little less.

Not going to get a better chance than this to end the streak.

Surely even Pakistan can't mess this up.

A clinical performance by Pakistan, they've finally done it .. congratulations.

Streak is now rest back to 7-0 now alas..

On a serious note, I always had a feeling this streak will come to an end under Kohli. Our biggest defeats against Pakistan happens under his captaincy for some reason. MS was an absolute gun man and held the fort and you always felt safe under Dhoni's captaincy. Kohli brings out his biggest panauti skills against Pakistan.

Absolutely love Kohli as a Test captain and he has taken India to the next level under his captaincy in Test cricket, but limited overs captaincy is not his cup of tea. I feel Pakistan has a very good chance to break the ODI WC streak too in the upcoming world cup in India if Kohli remains the captain. That would be more embarassing as it would happen in India lmao. Here's hoping the Mumbai mafia does it bit after the T20 WC and makes Rohit take over the ODI captaincy too.

Let us please lock this thread for good this is done and dusted now.

It is so satisfying to finally get rid of this blemish on our record. It was such a comprehensive performance, all of our gun players stepped up. IA this win will bring more wins vs India and we won't have to wait this long for our next win!

Today it felt like Brock Lesnar finally ridding his achilles heel Goldberg at Mania 33 in some style after getting humilated by him time and again.

No, no .. there's still that daddy streak at the ODI WCs. The legend continues ..

you are somewhat right, taht does exist.

But the thing is, when india media used the streak, they counted the world t20 aswell. Thus, they took the world cup combine streak.

It would be embarrassing for India if they continue to use mauka mauka type ads now as Pakistan has defeated them

MS Dhoni used to say that the World Cup streak will come to an end one day, irrespective of how long it gets stretched, but little would he have known that it'll come to an end the very first match after his retirement. Seven of the 12 matches were won under his captaincy and one as a non-captain member of the team. What a coincidence, although I'm not anywhere implying or pushing the fan agenda of Dhoni being the factor in any way behind those victories. It's a team game after all. Just thought of pointing this out.

Dhoni must be silently smirking looking at Kohli in the dugout - "I kept Pakistan at bay throughout my time as captain and you've just ended up conceding the 30 year long streak as a captain":msd

It's largely a pointless streak with a handful of games that mattered.

World T20 Final 07
World Cup Semi 2011

The other games have never mattered, other than the ICC CT Final in 2017, but that is non world cup.

Add the Quarter Final of 1996 World Cup in there. That was a huge game as well.

Shaheen Afridi unleashed his inner Brock Lesnar yesterday. This lad is going to be our kryptonite in a way :imran :wa :wy :akhtar never were :sree

The winning streak always will end but no one expected it like yesterday it was mauling.

To be fair, the original streak dates way back to when Imran Khan was still playing. That is a lot of authentic history that you can't just dismiss.

Until that string is broken, we consider you our bunnies.

The streaks

Afghanistan’s streak of 17 consecutive wins in T20 Internationals in the United Arab Emirates came to an end with a defeat against Pakistan in Dubai whereas Pakistan consolidated their winning streak in the same country to 14 T20 Internationals dating back to 2016. The last time Afghanistan lost a T20I in UAE was in a one-off game against Hong Kong in Abu Dhabi in 2015. The game against Pakistan was also the first time in 16 T20Is in UAE that Rashid Khan was at the losing end.

This is it, my fellow Indians. :(

An amusing 31 year run will amost certainly come to a screeching halt this Saturday.

Let us sing hymns, drink wine & enjoy the next 48 hrs.

I agree. At least overall streak was in Dubai.

This is going to be because fraud management believes that playing 6 bowlers/bowling allrounders is somehow an advantage and excuses our batters from not bowling a few overs.

And it's going to happen right in our faces in our biggest stadium . :sree

long live the thread

I have a feeling that Oakistan will have its moments during the match but eventually the power & the magic of the streak will be too much to overcome even for them.

It’s a magical enchantment

I thought India stood a good chance but after watching that clinical chase by Rizwan & gang against SL, it seems Pakistan is very comfortable on these pitches.

The Streak seemed like he had become double the man he was, when he found his soulmate in 2007. The couple toured the world, regaling one and all with tales of grit, honor and nerves of steel. But like all things that get repetitive, they too found themselves bored and jaded with what had been a somber but entertaining routine and decided it was time to broaden their appeal, reach out to new fans, and more importantly, challenge themselves.

Thus began a celebrated standup comedy show, successful around the world. Unfortunately in 2021, The Streak's significant half succumbed to the rigors of having been ravaged by a deadly variant of COVID. For a brief while after, it seemed like The Streak, distraught and purposeless, might never truly recover. But a year later, he shocked everyone, rising like an epic Phoenix from the ashes of his loved one.

Now a year later, we all look at The Streak with the same fondness and hope that we did, starry-eyed as little kids. But for The Streak, now into his 30s, a year in his life takes a much bigger toll on his appearance than it did when he was a teenager. In just a year's time, he looks old, is balding and seems vulnerable for the first time in all his time as a much-lusted-after single man.

Perhaps, it is time to bid farewell to our idols.

Perhaps, it is time to say goodbye to the nostalgia of our youth

Perhaps, it is better to burn out than fade away.

I want Bharatiya fans to answer me this :-

Do you think it’s better for the streak to be over now because it’s reached a level, it’s actually putting unnecessary pressure on Bharat more than even Pakistan which have accepted their poor World Cup record long time ago.

Now the pressure the sustain the streak has been on Bharat since last many years and I must say we have shown immense courage to sustain this for as long. It is in itself a great achievement for us.

ICC is just milking money now off the Streak related hype

Once the streak is over, we can genuinely get back to enjoying these matches as just World Cup matches rather than this feeling of having the life on the line to sustain the streak

Having said that, The Strwak is absolutely special and beautiful.

It’s the greatest streak of all time in any sport ever.

The streak will be remembered for ages

We have a longer streak with SL but leave it to Ind fans to make a big deal out of a meaningless stat lol.

You do realize in one of the "streak" matches Pakistan won the WC and in another we lost in the final to Aus. Other than the 2011 WC semi, the streak matches have been inconsequential in the grander scheme of things.

This is the greatest streak of all times and ages across sports because no where else two fierce rivals have this kind of a streak between them.

If this is indeed the last odi World Cup like many claim here and if India win tomorrow then India will forever be undefeated against PAK in odi World cups. I think the streak will continue, India will win.

For the new PP members: :)

When I joined PakPassion on Feb 6, 2006 - more than 17 years ago, this ODI match in Peshawar had just finshed. Pakistan beat Indian on D/L method.

After the win, our overall ODI win/loss record stood at Won 63 Lost 35.

So when I joined PP, I created the user-id W63L35 just to troll Indian posters on PakPassion.

Over the years, a few people have blamed me and the ID (W63L35) for Pakistan's poor performance in ODIs vs India. They think, by creating this ID, I have jinxed our ODI domintion over India -as we have a record of 10 wins and 21 losses. Pretty pathic but since 2006, Indian team has improved a lot and we also performed only occasionally.

So just to set record straight...

Upto Feb 6, 2006: W63L35 (W/L Ratio: 1.800)
Since Feb 7, 2006: W10L21 (W/L Ratio: 0.476)

Overall: W73L56 (W/L Ratio: 1.303)

Ah yes, I forgot about the massive rivalry between lanka and pak, truly on the same level. So the 2007 final & 1996 wc qf were not important apparently.

Ofcourse it is not the last ODI WC. WCs are planned and plotted until '31 and will continue to do so

if we include all formats since that date ... it becomes W31L13 with a W/L = 2.38 or if you invert its 0.41

The one Tied match was in the 2007 T20 WC which was decided on a bowl out that Ind won and was declared the winner.

Like clockwork, the impending India vs Pakistan World Cup clash has prompted the circulation of one of cricket’s many statistical anomalies.

Pakistan has never beaten India in a World Cup match; you’ll no doubt have seen the numbers plastered over social media platforms and media outlets this week. It’s something Pakistan cricket icon Wasim Akram is constantly reminded of whenever the tournament rolls around.

“Believe me, Indian channels remind us of this every two minutes, all year around, for the last 35 years,” Akram told Fox Cricket.

“I just heard today on social media there were saying we haven’t won a game in a World Cup (against India).”

Watch every match of The ICC Men‘s Cricket World Cup Live on Kayo Sports. Join Kayo now and start streaming instantly >

Akram featured in three of the World Cup defeats against India, in 1992, 1999 and 2003, while the most recent encounter was an 89-run loss at Old Trafford in 2019, when India was coached by the legendary Ravi Shastri.

“If you know that you’re in a team that’s never upstaged another team, that will play on your mind,” Shastri told Fox Cricket.

“You will reminded of it time and time again.”

The one-sided nature of India vs Pakistan World Cup contests is particularly surprising when analysing the overall ODI record between the rival nations. Of their 134 encounters, Pakistan has won 73, while India has won just 53.

“They never show that,” Akram laughed.

Pakistan has an opportunity to break the 31-year World Cup curse when they take on India at Ahmedabad’s 130,000-capacity Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday evening. Both sides are undefeated heading into the blockbuster match, expected to be one of the most-watched sporting events of the year.

Meanwhile, more than 11,000 police will be deployed for the match due to lingering security concerns.

“It’s going to be a madhouse,” Shastri said.

“The biggest crowd of the tournament will be there, the energy and the atmosphere will be electric.

“I believe India start as clear favourites. Pakistan will have to bring their real A++++ game if they want to upset India, which they can. We know how unpredictable they can be.”

The fixture marks a rare bilateral achievement for the two nations. Their tense and fierce rivalry is fuelled by nationalist sentiment and a complicated geopolitical history, including the 1947 Partition and three bloody wars.

Pakistan has not played cricket in India for more than seven years, while the south Asian neighbours haven’t faced each other in the Test arena since 2007; they never play bilaterally only in tournaments, and typically on at neutral venues. For example, India refused to travel to Pakistan for last month’s Asia Cup, with Sri Lanka subsequently hosting the majority of the 50-over tournament.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board this week expressed “extreme disappointment” following lengthy delays in issuing Indian visas for journalists and fans. It comes after the Pakistan team received its visas less than 36 hours before the squad was due to fly to Hyderabad ahead of their first warm-up match against New Zealand.

“I hope Pakistani fans can get an easy visa to India,” Akram said.

“As a Pakistani, if I go to India, I need a visa for every city. If I get a visa for Delhi, I can’t go to Bombay. I can’t go to any other city. Same vice versa for Indians if they come to Pakistan.

“Pakistanis who travel to India, they’re going to get looked after there beautifully, that’s part of their culture.

“Indians do welcome their cricket teams. I remember when we toured in 1999 when there was a threat to us on that tour. We had presidential security. Wherever we went, we got looked after. The food is amazing, the hospitality is one of the best in the world.”

The Pakistan players received a warm reception upon landing in Hyderabad last month, with adoring fans cheering outside the airport. Pakistan wicketkeeper Muhammad Rizwan, who scored a century during Tuesday’s victory over Sri Lanka, compared it to the welcome they’d expect after touching down in Karachi.

India-Pakistan relations remain fragile, which won’t change anytime soon, but the World Cup will hopefully prove a stepping stone in building trust between the two nations.

“Sport is always a great healer,” Shastri continued.

Fault of this streak also lies on the past ATGs. They lost to such pathetic teams of India. Teams of last 10 years have just not been good enough so can't blame them.

Sorry to say but this streak will never be broken ever. This streak will go on to 100-0 as Indian cricket is soo much superior to Pakistan. As long as Pakistan select timid characters and talentless batsmen like Imam ul haq which they will do for years the result will always be an easy Indian victory

This is like saying in a street fight I was "just" punched , stabbed and mugged but hey Iam still alive isnt it? . Just look at the epic meltdown thats going on here on the forum and elsewhere in social media.

Conversely compare this to the jubilation after the T20 WC streak was broken couple of yrs ago.

The Streak ended in Dubai on that fateful day when we had to bat first on a ridiculous pitch and we had to face peak Shaheen. Lasted nearly 30 years though, lol. These are just normal beatdowns now.

RIP Streak. Beautiful memories

Hahaha. These Indian fans who are gloating over this ODI meaningless streak are saying it is the greatest streak between the greatest rivals but only last week the same.fans were saying Pakistan vs India is no longer a rival and replaced with Australia vs India.

Absoluter blag artists!

I didn't really put much focus on the streak tbh but come on at this point you have to be delusional to ignore it, 8-0 cannot just be made up.

As much as it hurts for me to say it, 8-0 is indeed an impressive streak that now even I am starting to question whether it will end in our lifetime or if ever.

They created the Mauka ad 8 freaking years ago when it was still 5-0, could have easily been brushed aside then, but not now when it's 8-0 which is just too embarrassing.

Unfortunately, another 4 year wait...

To be honest, even us most Bharatiyas cannot believe The Streak. 8-0 vs Pakistan in ODI world cups is quite phenomenal considering they’re among the contenders usually. Slaying a contender level team 8-0 is some flex.

Having said that , I have a strong feeling Pakistan will mature from this and will beat us in 2027

The streak started more like a joke prior to the 1999 World Cup. Back then we didn't have much achievements against Pakistan to to boast about. It took full steam in the 2003 World Cup.

Now, it's become a habit.

The first 3 were just a proper text-book heists considering how bad India was back in the 90s. The most under rated one out of all the 8 matches is the very first one where we defended a measly 216 on a Flat SCG wicket and repeated that in 1999 where we defended 227. But the 1996 QF remains by far the most electric match I have seen. I remember literally sweating just watching the match and being completely exhausted/drained by the end.

Absolutely! It still remains my favourite Ind vs Pak encounter ever. I'll never forget the treatment Ajay Jadeja gave Waqar Younis that day.
