We are getting our butts handed out to us but Ronchi has been a surprisingly good performer (apart from the bowlers, Santner and Williamson in his only test). He has mixed aggression and caution fairly well to produce some good knocks. He has kept wickets every time Watling has gone dizzy and done a very good job. He is clearly very fit. He is not the most technically adept batsman but he has shown application and guts. He has been getting out after getting good starts and looking confident and needs to carry on because clearly he has no hope from other deadwood in our side.

Guptill literally is allergic to scoring runs and the selectors keep persisting with him. What do they say about doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results?

Taylor has revealed that he is quite the minnow basher. A thoroughly disappointing performance much worse than Guptill. At least Guptill has the decency to ground his bat beyond the crease.

This is just a simple thread expressing my respect for Ronchi's efforts which while will end up in a brutal whitewash, show that may be I and others from the cricketing fraternity should probably have not written him off as an ODI and T20 hack simply for being an aggressive player which is a disturbingly common trend in "old school" fans who need a pacemaker every time someone has a strike rate in tests over 75.

Let us see what Neesham can do. He is a tough player but he is coming back after a long while and will need to do a lot to avert yet another subcontinental heartache and let us hope he has it in him.

He can be one of those imprtsnt cogs who does his job in a great side filled with great players

But New Zealand needs leaders and he isn't one of them

He should be our number 5 for the next few years.

I'd like to see Watling open and Ronchi take the gloves tbh.

I see little point in wasting Watling down at 7 or 8.

Harsh on Taylor.

The Aussies may have got whitewashed in Lanka but they are no minnows.

I think he needs to be persisted with. Is a handy player at the moment.

He has done nothing since. Failed everywhere except for the series in take a guess... Zimbabwe!

He is an experienced player who needs to perform more often than not but he is clearly in a rut.

One of my favourite players to go and see as a school boy.

Glad to see him do well.

Don't follow NZ cricket that well but is there no better WK batsman in the country?

Coming good when it matters. If he stays for another 10-15 overs, he could take the game away from Australia.

He has good strike rate for lower order batsman 113 avg.is poor though 23 coming as an opener he has to play this kinds of knocks more often.

I haven't seen most of his matches however he usually comes down the order in the last 10 overs so hence he gets low scores for NZ with him required to hit. I guess he would have better stats if he played as an opener.

Underachiver in international cricket.
But doing amazingly well in t20 leagues.

What happened to him? Why was he dropped? What is Nicholas doing in NZ team instead of him currently?

Didn't he chased down 300 odd once coming to bat at slightly low score with 5 down?

seems like NZ team has wasted him, by playing him down the order. He is in form of his life.

I think he's role in the NZ team especially in the 2015 CWC was to belt the ball around in the last 10 overs. Hence he got out for low scores doing this.

McCullum already took the opening spot with Guptill and made sense for Ronchi to bat at number 7. Williamson, Taylor, Elloit, Anderson was the most sensible batting order.

Ronchi ready to play in Pakistan

Luke Ronchi has confirmed that he will travel with Islamabad United to Pakistan if the team made the Playoffs.

Speaking to the media after playing a match-winning 77 in Islamabad's six-wicket win over Lahore Qalandars in the HBL Pakistan Super League at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, the New Zealander, replying to a question on whether he would travel to that country, without any hesitation, said 'yes, yes, yes'.

Ronchi has struck a purple patch during this third edition of the tournament where he has two fastest half centuries to his name.

Speaking about his consistency, he said: "Well I just try to have a clear mind. If I get muddled up in my head or if I have negative thoughts going through my head my performance is not as good as it should be and I think it's with most players."

Ronchi felt the biggest thing about the PSL is the guys you have never heard of before come and bowl at 140kph and whack the balls miles away.

"The skill level is very good. It's been a brilliant tournament," he said.

Misbah-ul-Haq praised Ronchi. "It becomes easy with Ronchi playing that way," said the Islamabad skipper.

Did Kiwis miss a chance by not using him as an opener like Gilchrist? Similar play styles

I remember McCullum said some years ago that it's only a matter of time before Rochi tears away a bowling line-up, boy he has killed the bowlers in PSL!

Underrated or underachiever. First saw him playing in inaugural season of IPL. Always like him as a hitter. Surprisingly he has decent stats in tests too.

Another 50 for Ronchi, singlehandedly scoring the vast majority of runs again for Islamabad United!

Why Luke Ronchi keeps on getting selected/retained in PSL?

He doesn't play in any other leagues except the T10 now then why he keeps on getting retained by Islamabad United even his returns last season weren't good. He has retired from the international cricket ages ago and I think he is just eating up the spot of a young and budding wicketkeeper and a better foreign player.

Former BLACKCAP and Wellington Firebird Luke Ronchi has been appointed BLACKCAPS batting coach for the coming summer, replacing the post left vacant by Peter Fulton in July.

The 122-capped International has worked with the team regularly over the past two years including the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup campaign in England and Wales.

Ronchi said he couldn’t wait to get started in two weeks time.

“I’m absolutely pumped,” he enthused.

“I’ve really enjoyed being back with the team in recent seasons and it’s exciting to be given the opportunity full-time this summer.

“Getting the chance to continue working with our batsmen is a great honour and I’m looking forward to seeing how I can help improve their games and best prepare them to perform at the highest level.

“It’ll be great to sit down with Gary and the other coaches to begin planning for what will be a busy summer with four touring teams who will all bring different challenges.”

NZC GM High Performance Cricket Bryan Stronach said Ronchi’s broad skill-set and past experiences with the team helped secure the job.

“Luke’s got a very good cricket brain and is especially strong tactically,” he said.

“He has a positive mindset and is good at building relationships but he’s also not afraid to challenge people which is a really important aspect of coaching.

“The feedback we got from the players and team support staff at last year’s World Cup in particular was very positive and I know he’s looking forward to continuing his work with the team this summer.

“There’s no doubt that, alongside the batsmen, our wicket-keepers will also benefit from having Luke around.”

Ross Taylor, New Zealand’s all-time leading runs scorer, said Ronchi had the right credentials to succeed in the role.

“It’s been great to have Luke back with the group in recent years and I’m personally really looking forward to working with him as batting coach.

“He’s obviously got great experience from playing and coaching around the world and I know he will bring plenty of his own ideas to the table.

“He’s got a calm demeanour and already possesses many strong relationships within the group.”

Since finishing his playing career with the BLACKCAPS in 2017, Ronchi has been involved with Cricket Wellington’s development programmes and was also a player-coach with Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League earlier this year.

Alongside his nine-year international career which featured seven games for Australia from 2008 to 2009, the Dannevirke-born 39-year-old also played 157 games for Western Australia, before moving to New Zealand to play for Wellington in 2012.

In total, he played 372 domestic matches for 11 different teams in leagues from England, India, the West Indies, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Ronchi finished his career with 16 First-Class centuries and 796 dismissals in all formats.
