The uneasy relationship between PCB and PSL franchises

PCB expects only its share PSL 7 profit to be around Rs 2b+. At the same time, the PCB expects all franchisees to have also earned a reasonable profit.

For the fiscal year ended, June 30th 2021, PCB had earned an operational profit of Rs 600M, against an approved budget deficit of Rs 2.2b. However, the management decided to provide financial assistance of roughly Rs 1.3B, to its PSL franchisees for their losses incurred in PSL 5 & PSL 6 due to covid out break. This financial assistance created an accounting loss for the year for PCB of roughly Rs 700m instead of the projected profit of Rs 600m.

despite the covid related challenges faced by PCB for the last two years and for providing significant amount in financial assistance to its franchisees, PCB's financial position remains very strong. It's financial reserves have increased due to increase in recent revenues and due to reducion in its expenses.

The financial results of PSL 7 will be shared with the PSL Franchisees next week. All financial information related to PSL 5 & PSL 6, have been timely provided to all relevant stakeholders.

That's around $10 million. That's not good enough

The tussle between Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Pakistan Super League (PSL) is not something new. Previously, both the parties were at loggerheads regarding the financial arrangement and model of the league. The relationship between the two entities seems to have reached another low point due to the idea of implementing a code of conduct.

The Pakistan Cricket Board had decided to impose a code of conduct on all players- especially the former cricketers. It is understood that a code of conduct like this will not allow them to say anything against the board publicly. The PSL franchise owners had vehemently opposed this as they feel a move like this is simply absurd to control the opinions of former cricketers.

PCB Director Media Sami Ul Hasan also confirmed the plans to introduce a code of conduct. At the same time, he also revealed that there is no intention to target anyone and certain things are being updated to bolster the PSL brand.

“We are working on the code of conduct because it needs to be updated. We don’t intend to target a particular person through it. We update certain things from time to time in order to strengthen the PSL brand,” Sami was quoted as per samaaenglish.tv.

“The draft hasn’t been prepared yet, so it is difficult to comment on this. However, we are not changing the code of conduct to punish or suspend someone,” he further added.

The report also stated that some days back, a meeting took place to discuss the operational issues of the league but PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja was not present in the meeting.

Another article published by Cricket Pakistan claimed that Sami also categorically stated that the Governing Council meeting was not held because of the code of the conduct.

“It is worth mentioning that a large number of well-known former players are somehow affiliated with the PCB, some remain silent due to pensions, so only a handful of former cricketers are open to expressing their opinions. Most of the cricketers who openly criticise PCB’s policies belong to different PSL franchises,” the report further stated.

The PSL franchises, on the other hand, believe that the legendary cricketers had dedicated their lives to Pakistan cricket and to muzzle their voice will simply be outrageous.

With PCB on this one. No other country's ex-cricketers speak the way ours do about our board and our cricket in general. On top of that, this is all done to stay relevant because they are all eyeing a job within the board which, once acquired, results in full support of the board and zero criticism. That's the definition of hypocrisy!

Totally fair for the board to reign these opportunists in

These so called legends are usually affiliated with LQ, KK and QG with two of them owned by the two masala media channels. Not surprising.

<b>PSL franchises deny Ramiz Raja's claims regarding PSL 7 profits</b>

LAHORE (Web Desk) - Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises have denied Ramiz Raja’s claim that each side has earned PKR 810 million through profit.

Franchises have termed the claim wrong and opined that PKR 400-500 million expenditure was not even deducted.

According to details, Ramiz Raja announced a profit of PKR 900 million to each franchise from PSL 7 just before the conclusion of the competition.

But, during the media conference in Lahore on Friday, he claimed that each franchise had made a profit of PKR 810 million.

Ramiz announced the franchises’ share from PSL Central Pool but forgot that profit comes after deducting expenses.

The franchises have to pay 95% of the PSL’s TV production costs.

According to a conservative estimate, each team will have to pay at least PKR 130 million in this regard.

Hotel accommodation cost PKR 65 million, travel expenses PKR 10 million, daily allowance PKR 150 million, event management (LED screens in the ground, etc.) PKR 14 million, players’ fees PKR 170 million, coaches’ fees PKR 20 million.

This can be more or less depending on each side.

The minimum amount after deduction is PKR 42 million. So, half of the chairman’s reported income will be deducted in expenses.

Many franchises will go under loss if they remove their fees.

However, teams like Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United will benefit due to lower fees. Some franchises will make a profit if you add your sponsorship income.

But teams like Multan Sultans will suffer huge losses this time too as their fees alone are more than PKR 1 billion.

Pakistan Super League facing losses due to increasing rate of US dollar: Report
According to the details, the eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League will start on February 13 in Multan.

The increasing value of the US dollar is reportedly causing financial losses for franchises participating in the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season eight. According to a Cricket Pakistan report, Pakistan players are being paid in dollars at a rate of 225 rupees per dollar, which is causing a significant financial burden for the teams.

A team official said that there is no logical reason for paying Pakistan players in dollars, and that the franchise owners have spoken to the head of the PCB management committee Najam Sethi, about the issue but no resolution is yet to be reached. Pakistani players receive 70% of their earnings upfront, with the remaining 30% being paid after the event. However, the first payment for the seventh edition was made several days after the tournament had already begun. With the Pakistan rupee experiencing depreciation in recent years, the rate of the dollar has been continuously increasing.

This has had a direct impact on the cricket industry, with the cost of the PSL increasing for franchises as a result. However, the franchises are facing losses, in PSL, platinum cricketers' fees are between 170,000 and 130,000 dollars, diamond 85,000 to 60,000 and gold 50,000 to 40,000 dollars, silver players 25,000 to 15,000 while emerging players will receive 7 thousand dollars, in 2021, except for foreign cricketers and production, other payments were made in rupees, but last year PCB introduced dollars again, the Pakistan rupee is suffering from depreciation these days.

The rate has exceeded 262, the PSL franchises are obliged to pay the players in dollars, this year the rate will be 225 on the day of the draft on December 15, a team official said in this regard. According to the details, the eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League will start on February 13 in Multan.

Agree with the Franchises. Even the IPL pays their domestic players in rupees.

lol its hilarious when companies set their own rate

Who makes these stupid decisions of having a Pakistani company pay a Pakistani player living in Pakistan in US dollars? Like seriously? With the amount of salaries on offer in the PSL, you are unnecessarily creating demand for USD and putting pressure on PKR. Mindboggling. There's no wonder that Pakistanis generally have the lowest IQ in the world.
