So, what went wrong?

Dhoni?

Team selection?

Wrong squad?

Middle-order weakness?

Big players failing at the key moment?

Something else?

Congrats to new Zealand. Well played.

BCCI will schedule bilaterals with Sri Lanka or WI and everyone will forget it.. players can pad their stats and corporates will milk the last drop of money they can from dhoni.

Don't know what went wrong, but it was amazing to witness as a Pakistani fan :afridi

This world cup puts an end to the career of Rahul, DK, Jadhav, Bhuvaneshwar, Dhoni (unfortunately)... Perhaps even Kohli may have to give up his captaincy and Shastri should go out (for the dubious selections - both by the selectors and the management selecting players from the squad!)

At least we will be up for big change....

In my opinion, it goes upto 2-3 years back.

We have invested in players which weren't selected. And at the last moment, players were brought in out of no where. That's not how a world Cup squad is made. This is a text book example of how NOT to prepare for a tournament.

We survived because Rohit was always clicking. Even Kohli was failing. It was bound to happened sooner or later. It was evident in the game against Afghanistan or even Bangladesh.

I hope, Shankar, Yadav, karthik are kicked out.

Rahul needs to go back to domestic.

Dhoni, it's time to retire.

were not talented enough

had they defaeted England, they could had faced us here and won the game and be in the finals

This what happens when you lose on purpose. Same happened with Paksitan back in 2009, they lost to NZ in a semi, and this happened again here. Back then Pakistan lost to Australia on purpose to kick India out

The top three made three.

The untested middle-order has to win a game and was exposed for the bunch of hacks they are.

Rohit can enjoy his six hundreds all he wants but he and Kohli failed when it mattered.

Overconfidence and a clinical performance from New Zealand. Absolutely loving this. I hate most Indian fans on the internet and their misery is my happiness

All I know K@rma is a b!tch, they deliberately didnt try hard enough to beat England earlier and it came back to bite them in their back...

Kohli has failed big time in this tournament. All he did was to score softie 50 when half the work was done by Rohit.

They choked as usual.

T20WC 2016, CT 2017 and now WC 2019. Stand aside South Africa, you have some serious competition now.

In this match - it was the wickets up top. Pretty impressed they were in a position to win at one point. Can't expect to win after being 5/3

Credit to NZ the way they held their nerve.

India had an easy target and with Sharma and Kohli it should have been a walk in the park but boy oh boy. The blackcaps came to the party today!

Congrats to KW. What a player/captain he is. He is the MVP of this world cup for me. KW is worth his weight in gold!

PS: Babar Azam's innings (101 not out) is the greatest innings of this World Cup

Why Bhuvi?

Aus chased the small score on the last ball of the match how did we lose on purpose?

The middle order was never tested before the big stage. It's an issue that's being pointed out for years now. Didn't expect much from Kohli and Rohit in the Knockouts anyway, maybe a bit more from Rohit but Kohli adds another feature to his cap of being the biggest choker of all time. But hey, please remind me again of his average of 434354233 in all the high pressure bilateral series he has played over the years. What a legend.

India picked guys like DK and Vijay Shankar whom even pakistan wouldn't pick

only one word, DHONI !!!

The signs were clear in the last 12 months, he had forgotten how to bat but India went with experience over performance. He lost the match against Australia, almost lost the one against Afghanistan and now he did it again against NZ. While Jaddu was playing a blinder, this guy was leaving balls outside off, dots after dots after dots.

He just didnt contribute enough in the middle, left too much for Jaddu and in the end

Choked. Esp VK. Too top heavy. Sad to see MSD go though. My alltime fave Indian player. India have not won silverware since 2011. Hype and no rewards.

Reliance on top 3. They’ve always had a weak “under belly” and losing Dhawan during the tournament was a big blow. Rohit delivered throughout the tournament but he was bound to have bad games as well.

Imagine this had they shown intent against England, NZ would have qualified at number 3 and India would have faced Pak in the semi which is generally an easy win for them. As they say karma is a ...................

Luck ran out. No one dropped Sharma and they didn't get to bat first.

Glad to see all the Pakistanis celebrating like their team has achieved something :)

Reminds me of Mushfiqur's tweet in the 2016 WC.

Complacency in the SF. You;d bet your house India would chase 240, players thought so too.

I bet they a ruing the day they didn't play with intent vs England. Had India won vs England, India would've been playing Pakistan in the SF.

Oh well.

I am very glad that NZ won this game. Some Indian fans were getting too confident. I once wrote here how NZ always brings their "A" game against India in knockout games and some Indian fans took offense.

Well, here it is. NZ did what I wrote.

Kohli is what went wrong. Dude has choked in 2 consecutive semi finals which resulted in India's exit from WC. This is supposed one of the ODI GOAT contender.

Obviously our middle order. Dhoni is past it mentally and physically( couldn't even put in a dive while running the second run, conceding byes ) and it's easy to blame him but management had no planning to find replacements. Dhoni, Jadhav and DK should be nowhere near the squad.

Credit to NZ, great bowling up front.

FTB’s got brutally exposed in a crunch game.

They played against England to keep NZ in the wc, and in the end got knocked out of wc by NZ :yk

Karmaaaa :yk

C’mon NZ win this wc now.

Dhoni should have retired last year. I think his eyes have gone.

Pant should have kept wicket with another hitter in up the order.

Who cares what went wrong for them! They're out that's what counts. Loved that Ish Guha on 5 live sports extra was so sad commentating on that last over. She couldn't have her usual sycophantic and orgasmic Kholi moment.

This isn't how it works, Pakistan trashed much stronger Indian side in final of CT few years ago. And India may have slowed down on purpose against England but Pakistan vs Australia was very close game, we almost defended 200 runs against them.

Basically anything could have happened had Pakistan reached semis.

1. Spineless selection committee.

2. Nepotistic management

3. Duffer captain who can't captain or select the right XI

4. Politican

5. No real planning (just chop and change for years)

It was all expected.

The writing was on the wall.

It was just that if things went our way, we could have won the WC.

But in a WC....that rarely happens.

A lineup like 2011 Indian team had to fight tooth and nail to win the WC.

You can't expect to carry so many passengers and expect to win a WC.

Usually I don't get this many predictions right but this time, it happened. Even I am surprised cos I always expect a few things to flop.

1. Bumrah - Bhuvi - Pandya is a risky bowling attack. Been saying it since 2017. Check

2. Dhoni will be a burden. Check (yes he played better than my expectations but no intent earlier so it was too much...moreover Jaddu's knock made his contribution look WAY better than what it was).

3. NZ is a riskier team for India in a knockout. Check

4. We give too much leeway to Kohli when it comes to knockout performance. He hasn't been impactful in WCs. Check

5. Wrist spin is not the holy grail. Check

Ever since CT loss and the subsequent rise of Chahal and Kuldeep, I have noticed one trend among Indian fans. They directed a lot of abuse towards Jaddu and Ashwin (valid criticisms are different), calling them all names, forgetting their past performances in clutch moments. They were drunk with the success Kulcha got and forgot the past. Ironically, it was Kulcha who flopped and Jaddu-Santner (finger spinners) who did well here.

This is not to say backing Kulcha was wrong (it was the right move considering pitches were getting flatter and the previous spin twins had taken their places for granted) but I am merely pointing out the unfair treatment just because you saw some results in bilaterals (mostly played on turners).

What went wrong is IPL players didnt perform, Only the top 3 who are proper players carried the team this far and the bowlers. But no worries next WC is at home so IPL players will have a better chance pf performing at home.

Dhawan was blow for india. How you can bench your best bowler M. Shami, that was idiotic and yes arrogance too.

Middle order weakness mainly. Should have backed a younger player at 4 instead of average players .

Obviously poor captaincy by kholi as well or whoever was selecting the team.

Wouldn't blame Dhoni today. He's been pathetic all WC (and should be dropped after this WC) - but this match he did his best. That Guptill runout just showed it was NZ's day. After being 5/3 and 80/5 without him we'd have no chance in this game. He held his wicket and allowed Jadeja to play without issue. Dhoni was not the issue.

The toss and their overrated batting lineup.
Chasing is tough and this is one of the weaker indian batting lineups

Lol Because of our middle order we came this close to winning.

What has our top order (barring Rohit) done ?
Softi 50s ?

Not much sympathy, they were the best side in the WC barring a weak middle order, they had everything covered. What they blatantly did against England to get Pakistan ousted from the SF, not out of fear but out of pure hatred in order to deny the country the happiness of making it to the semis was unforgivable and will not be forgotten. Also Dhoni can go _____ himself now.

Dhoni?

Team selection?

Wrong squad?

Middle-order weakness?

Something else?

Team selection.. Bhuvi over Shami was a big mistake...

Inside sources are telling me there is grouping in the team.
Dhoni and Kohli don’t talk to each other
The players along with Dhoni took an on oath on a bottle of beard wax that they will not cooperate with Kohli disrespects them.
Coach and team not on same page as Shastri prefers Corona, not Guinness
Team manager and family were seen traveling first class.

The middle order that we have been cursing thru out the tourney almost got us home. The middle order was supposed to be the weak link!

Great match, disappointed but someone had to lose. It doesn't hurt that much as the 96 one though! Never expected to cross SF hurdle by start of the tourney, anyways.

On the brighter side, we;ll have a dynamic team coming up for 2023 edition, hope no more selection blunders.

Infighting. Team not behind the captain. Mental midget Pant. Dhoni’s focus on his gloves and not his cricket. Dhawan’s injury. Ravi shastri not having the guts to say something to kohli. Jadeja’s celebration. Poor selection. So much more.

Without Dhoni guidance, Jadeja would never have scored these runs

Lol lol lol lol lol

Kohli and Rohit failed today. India missed Dhawan badly so who is beast in ICC tournaments.

You get their top 3 (Dhawan, Rohit and Kohli) dismiss early and rest of the Indian team is as mediocre as Sri lanka and Pakistan. India is a top ranked team due to these three and Bumrah only.

Losing to England has been their downfall. They would have easily smashed Pakistan in Semi final.

He has set the bar high

The Indian commentators. They were making it seem as if it was India's game to lose. No research of the results that were going on during the world cup recently. 240 was a huge score on the way the track was playing.

You were one of them lol

Indian team needed to be brought back down to Earth considering their performances on flatbeds. They will never be the best side in the World unless they learn how to negotiate swing and bowler friendly conditions. Same goes for Rohit Sharma. About time Indian fans learn he is the biggest flat track bully to ever play for them.

These so called GOATS of today for all teams cannot handle the slightest of seam and swing. They're constantly fed a diet of flat tracks, fat bats and rule changes to accommodate big scores and flop as soon as the ball deviates through the air or of the pitch. Ambrose, Walsh and Bishop - McGrath, Gillespie, Fleming - Donald, Pollock and Wasim, Waqar would have today's GOATS on toast.

Losing to England has been their downfall. They would have easily smashed Pakistan in Semi final.

It might be true because NZ always threaten to beat India. They beaten them in warm up aswell.

It all started with that advertisement featuring Pant and Kohli where Pant says ‘because he says so’.

Anyways, this is a great victory for the cricket fraternity.

Team was resting on Rohit's form. The one match he flopped the team also flopped.

Just imagine if eng got this wicket. Morgan and Bairstow would be crying.

Precisely. On top of that Rohit Sharma cannot perform to save his life in bowler friendly conditions.

Kya howa agar semi haar gaye... atleast Kohli is cool guy and pimple free :))) :))) :)))

Hence proved that today's greatest batsmen are nothing against legends when it comes to swing pitches.

I must say I am surprised that India even got to semis. I never thought India were favourites to WC. You can't go into WC with just 2 batsmen and no middle order. This was supposed to happen one day. Anyway, for me, I am not upset at all, today's result is fine. India actually did better than I expected. And hopefully work on the deficiencies that everyone could see but the management chose to ignore.

Actually KL wanted to do that ad with Kohli but then Dhawan got involved and faked his injury to get Pant in the squad with his grandpa Dhoni who is also Kohli’s uncle and mentor.
