Nothing went wrong. Pakistan is an average team and most of the players are average.
They just had a couple of great games and the expectations went through the roof.
Pakistan has only 3 top players - Babar, Rizwan and Shaheen, although the latter needs to improve his death bowling to be ranked among the world’s best fast bowlers.
Everyone else is mediocre.
Okay we get it that Pakistan is an average and mediocre team, you've been repeating the same thing over the course of last 3-4 years. It would be great if you could add some insights on the points where Pakistan lost yesterday's match, they competed well enough but lost some crucial moments.
Didn’t win toss. Pakistan would have been smashed by India, New Zealand and perhaps even Afghanistan had they batted first.
The commentators mentioned the lack of dew during the match. Despite the better bowling conditions compared to earlier matches, Pakistani bowlers did not bowl well at the death. Australian batsmen were always going to go hard, but the bowlers were sticking to their plan instead of adjusting it. Example: Shaheen Afridi's length and line.
This is where a good tactical captain such as Dhoni or Mahela would have made the difference.
What went wrong was Australia met Pakistan in the year 2021.
Australia defeated Pakistan in the world cup final in the year 1999.
Australia then defeated Pakistan in the WT20 semifinal in the year 2010.
Australia once again defeated Pakistan in the WT20 semifinal in the year 2021.
There is an exact 11 year gap between all these events. Prophecy indicates Pakistan will once again get knocked out by Australia in a world cup in the year 2032. Hopefully Malik can prevent that from happening.
You missed out the World Cup quarter final in 2015
Agreed with this.
There was a laissez fair approach in last four overs by Babar. Hopefully he learns from this experience.
No deep analysis required. We didn’t get lucky with the toss like we did against India, New Zealand and Afghanistan.
Pakistan got hammered defending against South Africa in the warm-up as well. The luck finally ran out in the semifinal.
Babar Azam also missed a trick by not bowling the spinners more. The kind of tournament Hassan has had he didn't need to give him a full quota of 4 overs. Imad and Hafeez both had overs left and couldn't have bowled any worse than Hassan.
The drop catch was critical but by the last two overs Australia were favorites even if the catch had been taken. It would have been extremely hard to defend 24 of two overs on that pitch.
